Find another book on Options........2003-12-07
This is definitely not an easy reading book. It's essentially a dry college textbook, drier then most Physics textbooks. I am not too sure why people like this book. It's rated fairly high, which was why I initially bought it, but now I regret it. The book is written by multiple authors, therefore some chapters are better then others. But overall it's difficult to read because in some areas, the descriptions are too terse, in others too detailed to the point of confusing. I've owned this book for almost three years and I've never been able to consistently read through it. I will drop it because it's too frustrating. Then I try again a couple of months later and I drop it again. I essentially gave up and decided to go ahead and read Lawrence McMillan's Option book. His book has a better flow because it's the same author throughout, and he does a pretty good job of explaining the subject. This book is only good for probably a reference book, but not for advancing your techniques of Options trading. I am going to try and sell this book instead of using it as a reference.
A thorough walk through options trading.......2001-03-08
This book is somewhat like 'A Random Walk Down Wallstreet" only applies to option trading, not just Wall Street and goes beyond. To the nit wit that blasted this book, I seriously doubt if he took the time to read it.I also recommend Safety First Investing and Wall Street Money Machine for more option techniques.Good books.
Can't say enough good stuff about this book.......2001-01-16
Wow, amazing, excellent, insufficient superlatives to describe my feelings - this one and Sheldon Nattenberg's Option Volatility and Pricing and you know more than most of the wall street professionals in my opinion. I found it practical and insightful, particularly with respect to the institutional trading strategies and how the trading floors operate.
An Excellent Overview of Options.......2000-07-04
This book presents a highly readable overview of the subject of options and I would recommend it to anyone. I have not been able to find one book on options which is as wide ranging in its scope (i.e., history, pricing, strategy, individual and institutional investors' approaches, how the trading floor operates, how market makers trade, etc.). The authors have struck a good balance between depth of the subject matter and readability. There are more detailed texts available in the area of strategy (McMillan's _Options as a Strategic Investment_) or pricing (Natenberg's _Option Volatility and Pricing_), but I would especially recommend this book to individual investors interested in options. After reading this book they will have a much stronger footing from which to approach the forementioned other books (which are also excellent, by the way).
The previous reviewer's comments should be disregarded as I cannot conceive of anyone writing about this subject matter any more clearly (yes, I have read both of Fontanills' books) -- the authors appear to have put much effort into this book judging by its clarity, and one nitwit's daffy comments should not dissuade you!
Misses the mark for a practical book.......2000-05-30
I was very disappointed by this book. I had attended some free events by the OIC and purchased this book at their encouragement.
It is not easy to follow, does not cover the subject in an easy to understand manner. They try to publish to justify their existance.
I prefer an number of other books that hit the mark - McMillan, Natenburg and of course the master of all option trader's Fontanills.

Taxes for Dummies: 1998 Edition, by Eric Tyson and David J. Silverman, is another title in the bestselling Dummies series, in which Tyson has authored four other books. Accurate and reliable in its lighthearted presentation, Taxes for Dummies includes tax-planning tips that will help you save money beyond April 15. While the book is just right for the average taxpayer, it may lack for people wanting a more in-depth guide--such as those running a small business from home or those trying to figure out capital gains on a mutual fund.
Book Description
Taxes For Dummies, 2002 Edition is full of helpful tips and strategies for getting through the process of filing income tax returns accurately and on time -- completely revised for 2002! This friendly guide is targeted for individual taxpayers and those with special tax situations (self-employed, small business owners, etc.). Understand tax law changes for 2002 with complete line-by-line analyses. Plus, this book also contains answers to the most frequently asked tax questions.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent, Especially the Advice on Dealing with the IRS.......2005-01-09
Easy-to-read, well organized, and thoroughly helpful. I recommend "Taxes 2005 for Dummies" to people who want to prepare their own taxes, either by hand or by computer. Excellent advice and strategies for dealing with the IRS.
Table of contents lists each line of the tax form, making information easy to find. Provides instructions for the 1040EZ, 1040A and 1040. (Most books just cover the 1040.) Icons indicate tax-saving tips and warnings to keep you out of trouble. The writers have done an excellent job of turning IRS technical jargon into something we can actually understand.
The only book that guides you step by step to dealing with the IRS. If you received a letter from the IRS, this book will tell you what the letter means, and how to respond to it. The authors even provide sample letters so you can respond promptly. The exceptionally well-written advice for dealing with the IRS is worth the price of the whole book.
Information on reconstructing missing tax records is superb. The authors provide excellent suggestions for substantiating cost basis, business expenses, and fair market value.
The book does not include tax forms, so you will need to obtain them elsewhere (library, post office, on the Internet).
Readable and Helpful.......2004-04-08
I purchased this book because I was using TaxCut Standard, which is not very helpful at times, and I got stuck on a particular form. This book helped me to understand the Individual 1040, using language that is more clear and personable than the official IRS instructions.
Anybody who itemizes deductions, or who might do so in the future, will find _Taxes for Dummies_ extremely helpful. Plus, throughout the book, there are tips for handling personal finances. Most of these are geared toward the higher-income earner, but nearly everyone can learn from the tips about home ownership and retirement savings. The advice is sound.
I strongly recommend this book as an aid for preparing one's own 2003 taxes.
Comprehensive, but sometimes vague.......2004-03-21
I like this book a lot, because it gave me great ideas about how to structure my finances to take advantage of the tax deductions the government provides.
While the book makes it easy to read and understand your tax return, it fails in its efforts to make complicated tax issues simple. In many cases, I found more questions than answers, particularly in the parts that talk about the section 179 deduction and the modifications made after September 11, 2001.
If you are looking to be able to read and understand your tax return and to identify the tax deductions that are available, this is a great book. Even after reading it, however, you'll probably need a professional tax preparer to make sure you're doing it all correctly.
Good no-nonsense guide to all sorts of tax situations.......2000-10-06
This book tries it's hardest to explain taxes in an easy to understand fashion for us normal people who don't have time to look through those extremely complex IRS instructions and other gibberish they give us taxpayers. The book does a pretty decent job of it too (however to accomplish that flawlessly, in my humble opinion, is impossible). Overall, any individual or small business that needs a few clues on how to do your taxes can benefit from this book. I can't wait for the 2001 edition to come out!
Good for basics and new tax law description/definition........1999-02-21
The book answered all my questions on the new 1998 tax laws. It was also a good guideline for those of us who don't understand taxes very well and are more familiar with the EZ-forms. This was my second year doing the long form with all the attached schedules and the book helped me develop an understanding of what the majority of the terms and references mean. However, since the level of information was BASIC, some of my questions were not addressed and I did not like how the book stated, "...see your tax advisor...". The whole reason I bought the book was so that I wouldn't have to have someone else do my taxes. Although there are only a few unanswered questions for my case, this still prevented me from completing them on my own. Some topics that should be addressed more thoroughly are Capital Gains, Corporate Relocations, and Itemized Deductions. At a minimum, this book should provide a complete listing of topics not covered thoroughly enough to complete the tax forms, and refer you to another book (For Dummies)instead of a legal IRS publication (or tax advisor).

Great gift book for serious Cat lovers.......2002-01-12
I loved this book ... not only did I love it but all my friends loved it ... I have 2 cats and read their paws and it was amazing how accurate the reading was as to their personality. This is a fun book and always sits on my coffee table for friends to look at. Highly recommended for anybody with a cat.
Bad book.......2001-01-27
This book was interesting and cool. But it was stupid and unethical it made no sense what-so-ever. I believe in reading palms and other mysterious things but not this!

Customer Reviews:
Love to Cut Loose.......2007-03-29
I have owned this book for several years and go back to it all the time for inspiration. I have about 10 quilt books and I use this one the most; the colors and patterns always give me lots of ideas, especially when I find bright and fun fabrics to start with. I also love not having to be so precise with seam allowances during block assembly.
Exciting .......2006-06-28
Jan really shows you how to step outside the box. If you ever get the chance, attend one of her seminars if you like colour and attempting something new. She is a great teacher and she also likes purple.
Quilting book, by Jan Mullen.......2005-08-02
This is a great book for the beginner(which I am) all the way up to advanced. I love the choice of colors that Jan Mullen uses, as well as her ('ish') method. For instance in this book, no 1/4" seam allowance . . . it is 1/4ish" seam allowance. It is fun, and takes on a whole new approach on quilting, no straight lines, everything is 'askew' but ends up a straight square.
Nothing but Fun/bright quilts in here!
Prepare to cut loose!.......2004-09-28
I saw Jan Mullen's booth at a quilt show and was bowled over by her quilts! Her combination of eye opening color and wacky style was a refreshing break from booth after booth of corner-matching, precision cut handiwork. I bought this book on the spot and made two quilt tops the following week! Mullen's instructions are incredibly clear and simple to follow, and though some designs are easier than others, her "stack and whack" method makes for quick piecing. Give it a try and let loose your "wicked wayz"!!!!!
Great book for making great quilts.......2004-03-20
I have made 2 of the Milky Wayz quilt from the book and they are so fun and easy. Jan's directions and pictures were very easy to follow. This would be a great technique for a beginner since you don't have to worry so much about matching. The best thing about Jan's method is that the cutting part (which I hate) is much shorter since your pieces are all 4"-ish or 5"-ish and so on. Plus it's fun to just cut at wacky angles and it gives your quilts a quirky fun element. Great for quilts for kids.
I can't wait to make another quilt from the book.

In The Fabric of Autism: Weaving the Threads into a Cogent Theory, Judith Bluestone combines her personal autistic experience with acedemic research and over 40 years of clinical practice to craft a unique and compelling view of the phenomenon called autism. Bluestone's book is both a significant clinical work and a moving memoir that illuminates the humanity beneath the brewildering facade of autism. Infused with rare and hard won insights into the etiology of autistic behaviors, this book weaves the various threads of autism into a sensible theory while simultaneously offering practical tools for strengthening the interactive systems of the body-brain-mind-spirit.The Fabric of Autism takes it's readers on a riveting journey into the world of individuals whose lives are influenced by ASD, most of whom have achieved significant improvements in their communication, general functioning and quality of life with the help of HANDLE- Holistic Approach to NeuroDevelopment and Learning Efficiency. The Fabric of Autism shows us that compassion, understanding and intuition can co-exisit with neuroscience, as it provides a new view and appreciation of the complex neurological dysfunction labeled autism.
Customer Reviews:
I'm a total convert to the HANDLE method .......2006-12-28
I'm a parent with a teenage girl who has autism, so immeditately I was drawn to a woman who wrote about her own experiences with autism. Our family has been through almost everything imaginable, in trying to effectively treat it. I was absolutely at my wits end when a therapist went to a HANDLE training, and called me several times while she was there, to enthusiastically endorse this different approach to treating autism. Let me just say that my husband is highly educated and is a Harvard-trained physician, so he's not one to pay much attention to anecdotal or new-age claims. But he's every bit as convinced as I am, that this holistic method has greatly improved the brain functioning of our autistic daughter. It's helped her to such a degree that we don't even do any other interventions anymore! Reading this book was the eye-opener I needed, then actually meeting Judith in person, and working with her, and being guided by her, was the clincher. This method works, and I think it ought to be part of everyone's treatment program! I think my very favorite thing about HANDLE is that it's based on what is called "Gentle Enhancement." It's respectful of the changes that you're asking the body to do, and in doing so, it's easy, enjoyable, methodical, and best of all, it's improved my husband's and my brain functioning too! After years of frantic, forced interventions that frankly didn't work as well as we had hoped they would, we are now in such a beautiful place with our family. It's been over a year since we first began the exercises, and the change in our family is nothing short of amazing! We're so calm and unusually happy, because of the changes we only saw happen after trying the HANDLE method. I only wish we hadn't waited so long before we finally tried it!
Pseudoscience at its best!.......2006-07-29
In my opinion, Judith Bluestones "HANDLE" is pseudoscience at its best. Her approach lacks systematic documentation of clinical outcomes in regards to children with autism. The heart-warming anecdotes and testimonials found in "The Fabric of Autism" may seem convincing but try not to be fooled by this "fad" treatment. "HANDLE" demonstrates the classic signs of pseudoscience including high success rates at a rapid pace for a wide range of disorders. Learners with developmental disabilities have the right to treatments with proven documentation on effectiveness. Most of the issues discussed in "The Fabric of Autism", are based on sensory integration therapy, another controversial treatment that lacks objective evidence. There is obviously missing rationales for how this approach works. How are the neural pathways strengthened, how are short-circuits un-shorted, and how does any of this makes a difference? Another aspect that is unclear is in regards to Judith Bluestones expertise in the area of autism. Claims of recovering herself from autism hardly seem plausible.
My "favorite" story in "The Fabric of Autism" is about an autistic and non-verbal girl named Christine. Judith claims that the girl began to speak after a few months of "working" on her feet. Bluestones rational for this miraculous event is that the girl "allowed herself to open to her sensory vulnerabilities in order to be opened to express her sensibilities." Now where is the science in that?
Common Thread.......2005-10-18
This is an excellent book that helps to emphasize that people on the autism/Asperger's (a/A) continuum have many common threads with their neurotypical (NT) counterparts. I want more books like this. I find that message positive, affirming and very helpful indeed.
Bluestone does a brilliant job of combining a personal account with clinical research. When you get right down to it, all people have some common traits/aspects/behaviors with their a/A counterparts. The common thread is quite strong; it comes through in the beautiful, bright primary colors that make up the a/A enigma puzzle. Bluestone's research does a lot to unravel the enigma by providing logical explanations for sensory issues and behavioral responses to same.
I think this book deserves a place of honor among all professionals, parents and lay people. We all need this book!
For parents, caregivers, and teachers of autistic children.......2004-07-14
The Fabric Of Autism: Weaving Threads Into A Cogent Theory combines informative clinical work with a moving personal memoir to illustrate and illuminate the humanity that is typically masked by autistic behavior. Advocate, teacher, therapist, lecturer, and author Judith Bluestone (who created the Holistic Approach to NeuroDevelopment and Learning Efficiency) personally triumphed over the challenges of autism. From an informative introduction to neuroscientific research, to explanations of developmental processes, to a survey of clinical outcomes to identify the probable causes of autism, The Fabric Of Autism is a perfect introduction for parents, caregivers, and teachers of autistic children.
A must-read.......2004-07-14
I commend Judith Bluestone's "The Fabric of Autism: Weaving the Threads into a Cogent Theory" with vigorous enthusiasm. It is a truly awesome book, leading the reader into the maze of internal disorganization experienced by someone with autism - and out of the maze too! That's what makes the book so remarkable. No one has ever done that, to my knowledge. Lots of authors look segmentally at autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and suggest correspondingly segmentalized treatment. This author views (and shares!) the whole.
Judith Bluestone combines profound logic and creative genius to EXPLAIN autism - not just ferreting out composite causes, not just describing the spectrum: from the "inside" of her own life experiences and from the "outside" of a gentle, wise, compassionate teacher and therapist, she explains autism for everyone. And she goes even one step further: she links the industrialized world's epidemic of disordered neurodevelopment - seen in ADHD, learning disabilities, Tourette's Syndrome, bipolar disorder, depression - to phenomena comparable to the extreme of autism. So this book affords insights applicable beyond the autism spectrum, too.
This is a must-read book for anyone who cares about enabling individuals to cope with life's challenges. Anyone who loves someone on the autism spectrum, anyone who teaches or treats someone with an ASD, anyone who has devoted time and energy to studying ASD, will turn a corner into vision: they will SEE autism. And will thereby see the human being struggling, whole.
Congratulations to Judith Bluestone for an awesome job!
