Too Many Mistakes!.......2003-02-08
This could be a good book if it weren't for all of the errors. The typos, inconsistent formulas, and algebraic mistakes make you wonder if the author was awake when he wrote this book.
Excellent review of extoic options.......1998-07-11
I have read P.G. Zhang's extoic options with great interest. It provides the readers with overview of the extoic options commonly seen in the markets. However, most readers will be turned off by the complicated calculation of the pricing of the extoic options. But it's still give you an overview of the extoic options. It's a good buy
Lots of promise but flawed........1998-03-27
This could have been a very valuable addition to my growing list of books on derivative pricing. As many other readers have mentioned, there are so many typos as to make it nearly worthless to the reader. The author, publisher or editor owes every purchaser of this book a complete errata sheet (could be as large as the book itself). I did find the section on the distribution of the correlation coefficient very interesting.
Too much errors !!!.......1998-01-21
Hello, I bought the book "Exotic Options of Zhang" few days ago.
I'm a french reader working in a big french Broker firm.
I note some mistakes in the two first parts of your book. Here is the list.
Page 8: In the table
MQTIF -> MATIF Marche A Terme International de France
Page 11: In the footnote
CAC 40 (or 240) is now for "Cotation Assistee en Continue" instead of "Compagnie des Agents de Change"
Page 28:
"Fisher Black... now a partner at Goldman Sachs..."
In fact, I think he is resting in peace now !
Page 35: In the footnote
A wrong "r" replaces the greek letter sigma, and confusion in the stochastic process between the Brownian and the process dz(t).
Page 51: In Appendix (A2.4)
dz(t) instead of z(t)
Page 60: Equation (3.5)
No "S" term in the pricing formula of the future option.
Page 66:
I think that the model of Heston for stochastic volatility is more accurate to deal with.
Page 75:
"An option's theta is always positive because there is always more possibility..."
I think it's only true for call option, indeed the case of deep in the money put is different.
Page 100 & 101 : Figure 4.6 & 4.7
Confusion in the trees between payoffs and values of option.
Text says .." $5.61 because it is larger than the corresponding value $4.78.."
and the tree shows in fact a value of 5.16 at node G.
In Fig 4.6, the node in the first step with the value $5.61 is inferior to the value
of the european case $6.04 (Fig 4.5) ?
In fig 4.7 , no final price for the option, the final node is blank.
Page 102 : "In Example 4.3 and 4.4, the European and American Put option prices are..."
instead of "Example 4.4 and 4.5"
Page 114 : At the top of the page
"...asset price in (2.4) or (4.3)."
instead of
"...asset price in (2.4) or (5.3)."
Page 118 & 119 : In example 5.4 & 5.5
1) "+ N(0.1372) " instead of "x N(0.1372)".
2) exp(-0.07) = 0.9324 and not 0.9236 ?!
3) Finally the price of the call C is not $20.117.
3 bis) Missing sign equal "=" (replaced by a minus "-" ?!)
4) Same problem for the put.
5) In Example 5.5 reference to example 5.3 and 5.2 instead of 5.4 !
Page 120 : Equation (5.13)
"t* - s" instead of "t* s" in the denominator
Page 121 : Example 5.6
I think the same kind of problem in the numerical application of the formula.
Page 123 :
"The Asian call option prices become higher with more frequent obsrevations as shown in Table 5.1"
obsrevations -> observations
higher -> lower ... I think ?!!
Page 124 : Example 5.7
You note "yield on the undelying asset is zero" but you write next "g = 0.03"
You write twice T sa_mu,n-j ?
Impossible to find your result for the correlation 0.883 ???? except if in
(5.18) the second term (r-g-.5*s*s) is not squared !
Page 125 : Example 5.9 WRONG ONE MORE TIMES
How do you find 0.4583 for te ???
Page 126 : Example 5.10
The value of Dcg1 and Dcg2 are swapped in the price of the call.
Idem for the put , where the litteral equation and its application are false
(Minus sign, exponential disappears,...) !
Page 127 : In Equation 5.22
Miss a starting parenthese "("
Page 135 : In Equation 6.2, the second SUM sign is in fact a MULTIPLICATION sign, isnt'it?
I continue my interested [and careful ;-) ] reading...

Book Description
This book provides the first systematic classification and treatment to essentially all exotic options currently trading at the Over-the-Counter (OTC) market. It contains exact closed-form pricing formulae and approximated closed-form pricing formulae for all popular exotic options. It includes arguments for and pricing formulae of exotic options with more flexibility than most popular exotic options such as flexible Asian options with flexible weights to various observations in the average, Asian barrier options, correlation digital options, etc. Most of the analyses in this book are within the Black-Scholes environment so that comparisons of each type of exotic options with the Black-Scholes model can be made readily. Emphases have been paid to illustrate the ideas of products clearly and show how to use the pricing expressions conveniently. The book contains many pricing formulae and analyses which do not exist in the literature.
The book is suitable for traders, analysts, risk managers, marketers, sales people, professionals in the derivatives industry, and financial professionals in general who have an interest in the concurrent status of the exotic derivatives market. It is also of great interest to professors and graduate students who want to catch up with the ever growing innovation process in the derivatives industry. Scientists, engineers, computer programers, and other professionals may also find the book an efficient way to grasp some financial ideas and connect financial products with mathematical tools.

Detailed and unfortunately full of mistakes.......2000-12-07
1. Excellent book to recommend to people who want to learn more on exotic options, but... 2. Two many mistakes in numerical examples, formulas, and even theorems !!, actually damaging the quality of the book. Since this is the second edition, the reader was prepared to get a cleaner version. I suggest the author creates a Web site for all these errors. 3. All these errors, typos, etc... make this book out of reach for those who want to use the formulas but have no idea on how to correct them... 4. Many very usefull ideas for structured derivatives desks
an insteresting book but.... too many mistakes!!.......1999-02-16
I have just gradueted in Economic and Bussiness two months ago. The topic of my degree thesis was the barriers options, so I bought this Peter Zhang book. I think that it is a quite good book: easy to read, clear for its explanations but I found some mistakes in mathematical formulas. Here is the list: formula 10.25 page 212; formula 10.26b; formula 10.37 page 222; the example in page 232-233 is wrong because when the up-and-out call is valued the square symbol over the parameter v is missing; in page 236 the rebate growth rate is eta instead of gamma; formula 10.49b page 236; in formula 11.2 page 259 the correct parameter is gamma isnstead of f; in formula 11.27 page 277 UCDP is missing; formula 11.30 page 280; formula 11.34 page 281; formula 11.51 page 294. For more details about errata I found please e-mail elenaz@tin.it.
Book Description
Tools and techniques from today's leading intellectual capital innovators: Xerox, Dow Chemical, Hewlett-Packard, Avery Dennison, Eastman Chemical, Rockwell, and Skandia
"Patrick Sullivan . . . has brought together some of the best thinkers and best thinking on the subject of intellectual capital. Anyone who hopes to profit from intellectual capital will profit from Profiting from Intellectual Capital."-Thomas A. Stewart Author of Intellectual Capital: The New Wealth of Organizations.
"A comprehensive collection of the key ideas for effectively managing intellectual assets in the twenty-first century."-Hubert St. Onge Senior Vice President, Strategic Capability, Mutual Life of Canada.
"The first thorough exposition of how companies manage and extract value from their intellectual capital. The discussion of 'best practices,' as well as the high level conceptual examination of various intellectual capital issues, is an important contribution to this fast-growing field."-Baruch Lev, PhD The Philip Bardes Professor of Accounting and Finance, Stern School of Business, New York University, and Director, The Intangibles Research Project at New York University.
"This is a remarkable compendium of analytic approaches to that most elusive of management goals-managing intellectual capital. It gives our 'state-of-the-practice' knowledge a most substantial boost."-Larry Prusak Managing Principal, Knowledge Management, IBM Corporation.
"Sullivan brings together strategic management and intellectual capital. The combination is powerful."-Russell L. Parr Senior Vice President, AUS Consultants.
In today's postindustrial economy, technology and knowledge-based companies are superseding traditional manufacturing enterprises at a rapid rate. But as tangible assets give way to invisible, information-centered ones, most firms still know very little about their intellectual capital and what it can do for them.
While a number of books and articles have already been written about the knowledge-creation and information-sharing aspects of intellectual capital management, Profiting from Intellectual Capital takes the next step-examining how companies can develop financial benefits and extract ever more value from their intellectual capital.
Divided into three sections, the book is filled with the practices and procedures of companies that are in the vanguard of ICM-Dow Chemical, Xerox, Rockwell International, Skandia, and Hewlett-Packard. The first part of the book presents essential terms and concepts, along with basic material on the principles of value extraction and a discussion of the usefulness of values in the management of intellectual capital. The two subsequent sections offer methods for IC measurement, management, and monitoring, as well as important techniques for extracting value-including such practical initiatives as creating an intellectual property database, patent trees, and more.
Profiting from Intellectual Capital is essential reading for today's forward-thinking executives, attorneys, accountants, and other professionals. Because while knowledge is power, knowledge can be profits, too.

Great book!.......2007-08-14
Easy instructions - beautiful pictures - pieced & appliqued blocks - good tips - great value
Thimbleberries Essential.......2005-11-28
If you love Thimbleberries, you'll find this book to be an essential component in your quilting library. Although several of the patterns are of the traditional design we all love about Thimbleberries, Lynette explores diverse ways to make these quilts uniquely yours.
Very nice designs, with a caveat.......2005-10-13
When I can, I take a book out of the library before I commit my hard-earned money to a quilting book. Some books, after all, are great for read-once inspiration. Other books simply demand that you get your own copy, because it's earned a spot on your shelf.
I've been working with The Thimbleberries Guide for Weekend Quilters for the last couple of weeks, courtesy of the Scottsdale Library, and I'm just finishing up one of the quilt projects. I'm probably going to order my own copy of the book; but the key word is "probably" (as opposed to "definitely, I'm doing it now!"). It has some compelling features... though it's not perfect, either.
Let's start with the good stuff. The 25 projects in this book are mostly full size (double and queen-sized) quilts, though there are several smaller quilts (such as the one I chose, a table runner). Most have an accompanying project, such as pillowcases to go with the quilt, or a fabric-trimmed rug.
Not all of them are gorgeous, but none of them are lame. The designs are primarily using traditional blocks, such as flying geese, though a few projects also incorporate applique. While the quilts aren't labeled for expected skill, they all seemed pretty straightforward to this still-a-beginner.
One thing I *love* about the book -- and which earned it a star all on its own -- is that each project is shown with a color photo and matching quilt diagram, _plus_ another picture showing the same quilt done in different colors. That works wonders, when you're trying to visualize how this quilt will look with the fabrics you already have in your stash.
Each project is laid out in sections, to accomodate the premise of the busy weekend quilter who can grab time in small chunks. That's a strengh of the book, but it also contributes to its weakness. (At least for me; it may work exactly the way you prefer.)
Every project gives a complete list of fabric you'll need (1/2 yard gold print, 5/8 yard red print, etc.); that's standard. However, most quilt books have you cut all the fabric in one fell swoop, so you can get done with that task and put away the rotary cutter. Instead, this book treats each part of the project (cutting the blocks, making the border, etc.) as a separate project. You cut out the fabric for the blocks, then piece them. THEN you cut out the fabric for the quilt center, and piece that. Then you cut for the border, etc.
If you're really working on the weekend-quilter schedule -- just a little bit at a time -- maybe this works for you. In my case, I found it irritating. I had to leave my entire setup spread up (on the dining room table, as it happens) over the course of most of a week, as I wanted to get this silly little table runner done (in addition to working 60 hours a week). I'd rather have done ALL the cutting, then tackled the piecing. Which, of course, I could certainly have done, if I had realized the non-standard way the book presents the project. Instead, I kept being surprised that I had to cut stuff AGAIN! If you know this ahead of time, it may be less annoying; you'll expect it.
Overall, however, this is a very good book. The author is cognizant that you have limited time, and has designed a book full of attractive, do-able quilts that you can be proud of.
Wonderful Projects!.......2005-06-15
This book is full of fast and easy and well as advanced projects which are all absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend this book to beginning quilters as well as advanced.
Dangerous book! It changed my life!.......2003-01-15
For years I had toyed with the idea of making quilts but I was always deterred by the huge amount of work it would involve. I bought many quilting books and drooled over the photos, thinking that one day I would take the plunge.
After setting eyes on The Guide For Weekend Quilters, I knew I could go from wishing to be a quilter to being one. It wasn't just the simple instructions and the lush, rich palette of colours that Lynette uses. It was the snippets of advice and insights into the quilting lives that crop up in short sections written by the people who work with her. It made me realise that quilters weren't superwomen - they all had busy lives, but they fitted their hobby in because they loved it.
Since reading this book in early 2000, I have made 10 quilts and just keep going! The instructions are well illustrated and undaunting. Lynette relies on use of layout and colour rather than complicated patterns so they can be put together quickly. Also, although definately "country", they avoid that "twee" feel of so many county style designs.
This book changed my life - you should let it change yours!
Customer Reviews:
Sorry, I didn't like it.......2006-04-22
To be honest, I didn't read it all from cover to cover. Of that which I read, I found it was a lot of psycho babble and I always found myself asking "How do you know that?" They did include references, but I found myself questioning the basic logic. Also, I didn't find this book helpful in being a better mother, which is the reason I bought it in the first place.
Helpful, but so mom-focused.......2002-07-05
As many other reviewers have stated, this is a helpful book. But I just wanted to note that it is very mom-focused. The author acts as if the bond with the mother is the only bond, and the father just happens to be hanging around. Since it was written in 1978, this could have something to do with it, but I would argue that, while the bond with the mother is very important, parents can do quite a lot to assure that the baby is bonding and close to both parents. Just something to keep in mind. (This isn't meant to be a review of the whole book, just a side note.)
An absolute must for conscious child rearing.......2000-01-27
This book allows you to get to a place that all parents wish they could be, inside their childs thoughts. I now have more understanding and MUCH more patience. It is easy now to be compassionate instead of upset since so many of my questions have been answered regarding infants moods, thoughts, feelings, and behavior. It has not only given me a new perspective on childhood behavior, it has helped me to understand my own!
Very engaging, readable and informative.......2000-01-01
This book is wonderful. It explains and delineates the phases through which babies and toddlers go as they develop, using Margaret Mahler's theories, but making them accessible to the layperson. If you ever tried to read Mahler's "The Psychological Birth of the Infant", you know how scholarly and intellectually dense a work it is (I tried, but couldn't). Further, the loving and lyrical style makes it engaging and joyous to read. I wish that fathers (I am one, to a toddler girl) would read it, too.
One of the best books I have ever read on child development........1998-10-23
After working as a child therapist for more than five years, I found this book extremely thoughtful and helpful in working with children. It is beautifully written and is followed up by Dr. Kaplan's book on adolesence!
