A must have for anyone looking for river adventures in Ohio!.......2001-10-31

Within two days of reading this book, My brother and I had one of the most memorable canoe canoe trips we've ever had. The authors have done the necessary legwork in not only identifying all of Ohio's rivers, but they give you detailed descriptions of each river, maps that show access points, including distances between points in both river miles, and shuttle miles for your car. They also list any hazards/portages in each river such as dams, etc. I was amazed to find several excellent canoeing river within an hour of home, with all the information I needed to make a quick escape from the daily grind. Excellent!!!

Used To Be Useful.......2000-09-01

Originally published in 1984, this guide is less than useful now. We've discovered that Lake Erie having dropped 3 feet in the last few years has significantly changed the river levels. Maybe the authors/editors could make a return trip?

i am one of her students, and although i have not read teh full book, i have heard her read various chapters. i personally thought it was great, and know that she put a lot of effort into making it how it is. she does so good in describing the world from a dog's point of view, and to me it was awesome!!!

For Women Only.......2001-04-13

I purchased this book for my friend to help him understand what his kids were going through and help him learn to deal with a bitter ex-wife. I thought the book would offer solutions to co-parenting issues or offer advise on how to work with a less-than-amicable former spouse. Instead, this book focussed on women who were dealing with deliquent husbands - how to make them pay, how to keep them involved, etc. It would have been more helpful to additionally offer advise on how to make her share the kids, how to make her co-parent with him, how help her move beyond the fight of the parents to the health of the children. I know the roles can be reversed in either case, but the author obviously felt that women were more likely to nurture the children. This, unfortunately, is not always the case.

There were so many great common sense pieces of advice..lots of good stories that let you know, others have been through this..I read this book 5 years ago when going through a divorce..with lots of hard work, my ex an I have avoided the pitfalls of beating each other with our child...We have remained parents together...

Need Help? Advice? Encouragement? Guidance? READ THIS BOOK!.......1999-12-15

This book can do wonders. It covers so much ground in a clear, concise manner. Every paragraph or two provided either insight, encouragement or advice. I bought other books on the subject of divorce and children, but nothing compares to this book. You can look for other books, but this is all you will need. The only exception, is the campanion book written by Lansky, "It's Not Your Fault, Koko Bear" Another must for those parents with young children. Both books will serve parents well. If your Ex is difficult to deal with, get this book for them. It can help defuse situations and refocus them to do the right things for the child(ren) they love.

A tremendous resource for explaining divorce to kids.............1998-06-12

This book was (and is) of tremendous help to me and my ex-husband in explaining our pending divorce and separation to our children. I cannot stress enough how useful this one little book was. It was the first and only book that I found that in clear and concise terms addressed what the children at various ages "hear" when you say, "Mommy and Daddy are getting a divorce." I cannot recommend this book highly enough. If you are in a (admittedly sad) situation where you are about to separate and need to know how to discuss it effectively with your children, this is the book for you!

Spending an Afternoon with Nora Ezell.......2000-04-26

I enjoyed this book - it was like spending an afternoon with Nora Ezell. I was fascinated by the way the book reads like a diary. One can see how Ms. Ezell felt when working for HOURS and HOURS on a particular block of a quilt. As a quilter, I was interested to see how another quilter goes through the creative process. The quilts themselves are shown beautifully in this book - all in color! For those of us who don't follow patterns when quilting - this book is such an encouragement!

This book is nicely done - lots of pictures and illustrations, with a narrative that moves well, and is plenty comprehensive - Wilde was an in interesting man, but - like Truman Capote - a superficial thing. One doesn't need more detail than this book offers.

Oscar Wilde was a frequently photographed celebrity in the Victorian era and this book makes use of both his famous photos as well as previously unpublished photos. Illustrations include contemporary drawings, editorial cartoons and photocopies of records from Wilde's lifetime. The book includes a concise 112 page narrative that provides interesting details from Wilde's successful writing career, private life, tragic fall, trial, imprisonment and exile.

Celebrated first as a gifted poet and writer, he was also a perceptive critic and political thinker. Today, however, his fame rests mainly on his novel of decadence, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and the popular play The Importance of Being Earnest. From his first notoriety in the 1880s when he carried the message of the aesthetic movement to America, and through to the height of his fame as a wit raconteur in the dizzy social whirl of London in the early 1890s, he had the world at his feet. But then it all went tragically wrong: following his love-affair with 'Bosie', the young and aristocratic Lord Alfred Douglas, Wilde was persecuted by Douglas's, father, the Marquess of Queensberry, was put on trial for homosexual offenses, and sentenced to two years imprisonment in Reading Gaol. He spent the last, tragic years of his life in France, supported by a handful of loyal friends, but shunned by those who had courted him in the days of his glory.

I recommend this book for fans of Oscar Wilde's poetry and prose. It is a great alternative to the stuffy 1,000 page-plus biographies currently in print. The book is over-sized with a tasteful layout. The photos and illustrations alone are worth the price of the book. Although it is now out of print, you can still obtain beautiful used hardcover copies from Amazon and other online vendors.
