If you want to make interesting and simple quilts for a modern home then this is the book for you. Good instructions and interesting use of all kinds of fabric, not just cotton. I especially liked the quilt using peices of old embroidered tablecloths and mats that we all have inherited from our mothers.

When I started quilting, my interest was in bold designs as found in Amish quilts which progressed to two-color quilts, a few "art" hangings and some clothing. Things stalled as I focused on my changing interior design style.

As I have restyled my home in a more contemporary and less fussy style, I have wanted more contemporary quilt designs, particularly for my beds. I purchased this book in the hope that modern designs would be there. I found a design that I plan to execute for a master bedroom, although I won't be using the materials or color called for in the book.

I very much like the contemporary designs in this book and I am now excited again about quilting.

This book (along with Denyse Schmidt's) inspired me to learn how to quilt. These unique and beautiful quilts can be made according to the book or as ideas for your own projects. As a beginner, I find that its difficult to work with large pieces of fabric. Many of these quilts can be scaled down to make gorgeous wall-hangings.

This book is absolutely amazing I was looking for something like this for years. It has enough information if you are a beginner, as well as very advanced techniques which could be used anywhere not just in making quilts. It gives you so much more ideas for contemporary quilts if you don't want your house looking country style all over.
I never rated any book before, but this book really shocked me, in a good way, I wanted to email the editor (Karen Hemingway) to thank her, but I couldn't find her email anywhere. Well I guess this is the next best thing.

Very Appropriate and Fun Guide!.......2005-05-04

I recently gave this book as a gift to my 11 year old niece on her birthday. Not sure how she'd take it, I was a bit nervous that it might be awkward. For the remainder of that evening, she was glued to that book! She even read certain sections to me and was very excited about the recipes and stickers. She especially loved the box it came in and immediately began decorating it with the enclosed stickers. A couple of months later, I was in her bedroom and noticed she had the book on her bedside table. She continues to enjoy it and her Mom is delighted with me!

I wish this book was out when I got my first moon!.......2005-02-08

This is a book that should have come out decades ago! When I got my first moon long ago, my mother was shy about showing me the way and so I received little direction. I can only imagine how much less strange this whole journey would have seemed if I had received such a gift! This book covers so much to make the transformation to womanhood easier (for the Mom passing on the info especially!)including mood stickers, calendars, general how-tos, plus there is great background information! I am grateful to have this guide to pass on to my daughter!

I love my daughter. And finally I've found a resource to help me stay connected while she takes this important step...the first time in her life that I'm at a loss for words. I'm sure there are many more fathers like me that forever will thankfully remember when their daughter's first period was transformed from being her first step away to celebrating her First Moon. an experience of dylan's development.......2004-10-11

This is an excellent companion to Dylan's new autobiographny. A brilliantly written and imagistic volume on Dylan's formative years, when he is a teenager and first finding his voice as an artist. The reader feels as though they are growing up in Hibbing with Robert Zimmerman who was to become Bob Dylan. Stephen Scobie provides an authentic but objective atmosphere to the formation of a great 20th century artist.I have had my interest in Dylan renewed by the release of his autobiography and so I went back to this book a second time and it still seems as fresh as when I first read it. I highly recommend thnis excellent volume.

Ok i wrote an earlier review saying that i hadn't read this book, but was just letting people know that it was a poem. Upon completing the book i can give a more indepth review. This book is a poem, and it only documents up to when Dylan is a late teen. The book is less about Dylan and more about his Town and his ancestors. It is very clever and well written, you could read this book cover to cover in one sitting. If you are looking for a review of Dylan's life this is not the place to look. This book is however great if you want an impression of Dylan's childhood and surrondings. There is some powerful imagery in this book that will stay with you long after you put it down. Worth the buy as long as you realize what you are receiving.

I just ordered this book, received it today. I just want to let people know that this is a large, book length poem on Dylan. Just for those similiar to myself under the impression it was a formal biography. I haven't read it yet so i still don't know if being a poem is a bad thing. Just Keep in mind it may not be what you expected.

This book is by far the BEST Dylan biography out there! Its way better than Marsh's Glory Days (which - for some reason seems to be more about Springsteen than Dylan!). Just get it!

The Antiquities of County Clare is derived from the Ordnance Survey Letters compiled in 1839, and is based on a typescript of the original manuscripts for County Clare, which were prepared in 1928 under the direction of the Rev. M. O'Flanagan. This book is a must for anyone with an interest in County Clare history or genealogy. Included in this primary reference source are the personal letters and observations of the surveyors involved in making the Ordance Survey maps of Ireland. The material provided can not be found in any other source. Every parish is accounted for with descriptions of churches, castles, and significant topographical features. This text should be considered supplemental and more personalized than Lewis's "Topographical Dictionary of Ireland". One should not expect to find extensive genealogical information on 19th century farmers, but there the lords of castles listed and some older family pedigrees. While this is primarily a reference book it also contains comments of the travels of the authors and reads as an interesting and enjoyable novel.
