Seeing the "wood from the trees" with financial data.......2003-02-19
The business world is currently faced by concerns such as corporate governance, audit accuracy and management accountability. These concerns are affecting corporate and market credibility. There is a need for an investor tool kit to see the "wood through trees" within all the financial data that is currently available. This book provides the framework for just such a tool kit.
Stockpicker will initiate a new method of company valuation. It provides a fresh look at the often forgotten, but extremely important measure of free cash flow.
The Roadmap model addresses a complex problem by applying Theory of Constraints measures and pattern recognition. This enable focus by both an investor and the incumbent management on what the company should really be about.
The release of this book is both though provoking and timely.
Top Stock Picker.......2003-01-26

The authors have provide detail explanations of both TOC and profit patterns so that even the novice can easily apply this approach. The book also includes spreadsheets to use to perform easy analysis of your stocks.
If you are looking for a method to use for long term investing this may well be the book for you.
Book Description
This text aims to provide an in-depth review of recent historical research on the emergence and maturation of institutionalized public accountancy in Scotland from the mid nineteenth century onwards. Not only is this research important for understanding the elitism of the professional project, but it also provides a template from which further studies can be undertaken of public accountancy's origins in other countries. The need for comparative international research of the professional project is assisted by the text's content. Individual contributions cover a range of historical studies including the original foundations and founders, the early competitive struggles with other bodies, the nature of Victorian public practice, individual successes and failures, and the gender issue. Most of the material has a contemporary relevance to accounting policy makers, teachers and students. It should also be of interest to social researchers of professions generally.

Book Description
As a tribute to Tage Frid who passed away in 2004, combined with the 30th anniversary of The Taunton Press, this three-volume slipcase set is the most complete, authoritative guide to woodworking for readers of all skill levels. The books in the slipcase include: Book 1: Joinery, Book 2: Shaping, Veneering, Finishing, and Book 3: Furnituremaking. The techniques illustrated in these books are demonstrated step by step, with clarity and organization that allows readers to understand and carry out virtually any woodworking project. This is a limited edition.

Fantastic Frid.......2007-08-29
I first came in contact with this set while in college studying woodworking about 6 years ago. While in school I referenced it many times for a complete 'how to' to a 'how do I do that again.' Now, I am still in the woodworking business, and this is a great set of books to have around to consult for what ever reason, thus, I recently got my own. I especially like a chart he has for doing compound angled miters- I must have looked at that a hundred times. Though the pictures are obviously dated, the skills and basics techniques he writes about are timeless, and are a fantastic jumping off point for someone to figure out how to make anything. He teaches you everything you need to know, I highly recommend this set.
Tage Frid.......2007-01-03
These are great books full of good information. Not all of his furniture is
in a style that I would choose, but it's constrution is great. The DVD is good.
Although not packed full of woodworking skills, it's nice to watch this master work
in his shop. You'll wish you could spend a few days working with him.
The Encyclopedia of Joinery.......2006-04-24
This is the first of three volumes by Tage Frid that are literally a brain dump of techniques and approached to woodwork. Frid is a true working craftsman. He began as an apprentice at a time when most work was done by hand, and survived the transition to machinery without missing a stroke of his plane. Teaching both at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the Rhode Island School of Design, Frid has influenced over a generation of professional and amateur wood workers.
This book is an exhaustive study of joinery. Frid starts with the traditional sections on wood, the tools, and the preparation of stock. Sections then follow on dovetails & other multiple joints, tongue and groove constrution, mortise and tenon, and mitered joints. What is different from other books on the subject is that Frid's explanations are clear and well illustrated, he covers many of the 'tricks' of the trade, and he will address a problem from several directions.
If you could remember everything in this book you would be a woodworking wizard. If you are more forgetful, like me, you will keep this book in the shop where you can grab it when planning out your work. If you have to have only one book on joinery Tage Frid's work may be all you need.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book.......2007-02-28
To the point with great explanations. Black and white photos are just fine for contrast clarity. This book is a great cover to cover read. Each page has an illustration. He explains the advantages and disadvantage of different type of joinery (for example) and how to accomplish each task by hand or machine and various machines (eg. dovetails on a band saw, by hand, by table saw.) Best woodworking book I have ever purchased and I have purchased dozens.
This Tage Frid fellow knows a thing or two about wood. :-)
Excellent with lots of great information.......2005-12-02
I haven't always been as much of a fan of Frid as others but no one can question his command of woodworking. I think that his stools are some of the nicest designs anywhere. His technical knowledge of woodworking shines here in this book. He is an obvious master of his craft. His books are much more oriented toward 'doing' than James Krenov's books and many people will find it much more useful. There is a wealth of information here, not only in brute technique, but in tips and hints that make shop life a little more pleasant. I learn a bit more each time I read it. Good book.
Wonderful, Must-Have Book.......2005-03-16
This is, quite simply put, a fantastic book that every woodworker should own. I highly recommend this book for many of the reasons that others have already written about. Trust their impression...this is a great book!
Best Book for Beginner to Intermediate Woodworkers!.......2003-12-16
Tage Frid presents a book that is well organized and insightful. I thought I had a good working knowledge of wood movement and joinery, but Frid offers some points that will help you make furniture that will last generations. The text does contain black and white pictures that can be hard to see, however, if you follow along in the text it will be clear what is being depicted. To address an earlier comment, this is an instruction manual for people interested in the finer points of woodworking and IS NOT a book for "crafty" people who think it would be chic to have a book about woodworking. Frid has been working wood for more than 50 years and his experience and expertise show through in this well written text. If you are interested in making fine pieces of furniture, then this book is a must read!
Very b&w.......2003-05-17
In view of all these rave reviews just a cautionary note. This is a reprint of two c 1980 books when b&w pictures were still acceptable, and the book uses very many. Maybe this will grow on the reader after a while, and there are also some illuminating line-drawings but the initial effect of this volume on the unprepared reader is depressing: all those hard to make out greyish b&w pictures. This is not helped by the fact that many feature an elderly, out of shape gentleman. Definitely not a coffee-table book!
Customer Reviews:
back in print!.......2005-09-22
This will be released by Taunton Press, supposedly October 2005. Good thing I didn't win one on ebay. Wait for the new one, or wait for used prices to drop.
November 2005: Now Taunton tells me they will only release this book with the slipcase set that contains all three volumes. That's disappointing. Still, I guess that they will eventually release this book by itself. Probably sometime after the holidays.
Good book..........2005-07-07
...that provides solid information on building and designing furniture. This focuses more on the design part while the first two books in the series focus on basics and techniques.
All the basic knowledge that is needed to create furniture.......2000-05-17
This is a great beginner level to intermediate level book for building furniture. Lots of photos of different ways to make joints. Although this book is short on words, it makes up for it by showing how to make joints and furniture. Tage Frid is a master craftsman and this book is a no nonsense guide on woodworking.

Wise Advice, Practical Help.......2007-04-10
Ron Deal is one of North America's leading experts on stepfamily life. Together with Dr. David and Lisa Frisbie, he is one of only two authors I know of who address blended families from a faith-based perspective. And there are a LOT of faith-based stepfamilies in North America!
This book is revised and updated from a previous edition, which was also good. Very practical help, very clear writing. Most of the challenges you'll face as a stepfamily are addressed here, with wise and down-to-earth advice.
I strongly recommend this for all stepfamilies, especially those who are persons of faith.

The Smart Step Family.......2007-03-22
You have to be very religious to read this book and believe that god will solve all your problems. I was not aware that this book was christ based.
A step-family must read.......2007-03-16
I have personally led step-family groups using this book as the material and have found it very helpful for many of the issues that step-families face today.
The Smart Stepfamily.......2007-03-08
This book proved great insight into what a step-parent needs to be. The author has done his homework and is knowledgeable on the concerns of step-parenting.
Encouraging and Practical Book.......2007-02-02
Ron Deal gives very practical advice on how to make step situations work in the face of divided loyalties, marital problems, parenting differences, toxic ex-spouses, etc. With the divorce rate at 74% for second marriages with children, there's obviously unique dynamics in a step family that couples must face along with all the other normal challenges of life and marriage. My family was helped by the explanations on how to gradually move the step parent into authority at various levels, and how to develop realistic expectations for the amount of time it will take for family members to accept each other and ultimately bond as a family.
For people who are considering a second marriage, please don't get discouraged by his "warnings" and occasional negativity. I wish that someone had told me the struggles that I might face before I remarried, and that someone had been straight with me about how hard it really is to blend two families. Thank God that we read the book before we threw in the towel. His recommendations really work, and our family has a lot less tension and pressure since reading The Smart Step Family.

No two stepfamilies are alike, and the principles, information, illustrations, discussion questions, and activities in The Smart Stepfamily help couples focus on their specific situation to build healthy marriages and peaceful families. Based on Ron Deal's nationwide stepfamily seminars, this material is equally helpful for couples, small groups, pastors, and counselors.

Very helpful and realistic.......2005-09-13
This book helps step-families, in such a realistic way and helps biological and step-parents to improve their families by following some very practical steps. Every step-parent should read this book.
The Smart Step Family: Seven Steps to a Healthy Family.......2005-08-02
I'll keep it short and to the point. My wife and I could have benefited tremendously from this book if we would have known about it sooner. Only after a year and a half of remarriage did we find ourselves in need of a tool to help and encourage us. We were amazed at how clearly the book identified the exact issues we were facing in our stepfamily. We are currently going through it a second time and are getting so many helpful tips from it. It is a reassurance to us that the issues we are going through are very typical for a stepfamily and at the same time we have a plan and a new attitude to apply to all of the unique situations we continually find ourselves in. This book is a must read for any stepfamily. Preferrably before you remarry.
WHAT AN EYE OPENER. THIS IS A MUST READ!!.......2005-07-06
This book is an excellent source for those with children who are considering remarriage. I had "The Brady Bunch" mentality and this sure blew it out of the water. Scripturally founded and extremely well written, it has given my fiance and me a realistic perspective on what to really expect. It also makes you think much more about what your children have gone through, something we as adults don't often take into account. I am passionate about this book. It is a must read!!!!
Best Christian resource for step families.......2004-09-23
The BottomLine is that this is the best book for step families that speaks from the Christian perspective. Integrating families is the biggest challenge of any family type and this book gently inspires and motivates as it answers numerous questions. Personally, as a member of an integrated family, I LOVE this book and it's message. As a professional Marriage and Family Therapist working with dozens of clients, this book is the best resource for the ever changing, challenging blended family. I recommend it for ALL of my step parent clients and for every one in all of the support groups I do that involve integrating families. GREAT for newly divorced individuals - supportive but also tells you straightforward what you'll be getting yourself into if you remarry with kids in the home!
upbeat introduction to stepfamilies - and misses key points.......2004-08-20
I have specialized in providing professional education and therapy to divorced, courting, and re/wedded couples since 1981. I am (a) 66, (b) a stepgrandson, stepson, and ex-stepfather and stepbrother, (c) an invited Board member of the Stepfamily Association of America, (d) a contributing editor to 'Your Stepfamily Online,' and (e) the author of six personal-growth and family-relations books.
I recommend this book to readers who want (a) a well-researched, readable introduction to stepfamily life with a Christian context, and (b) perceptive advice on how Christian churches can help stepfamilies. I do not recommend this book to anyone who seeks the core reasons most US stepfamilies are significantly stressful, and why millions redivorce or endure daily agony. The lack of an index reduces the utility of this book as a reference.
Like most lay and clinical stepfamily authors, Ron Deal omits explanation and advice on these widespread major stepfamily stressors:
1) why and how to assess and reduce co-parents' psychological wounds from childhood (vs. divorce). Most divorced and stepfamily adults appear to be significantly wounded - and don't (want to) know it;
2) the origin and impacts of blocked grief in adults and kids, and how to spot and reduce it. The author does acknowledge that all stepfamilies follow (and cause) a series of profound losses (broken bonds) - but doesn't follow through;
3) co-parent unawareness of - and indiference to - five key topics: (a) normal personality formation, composition, and function; (b) keys to high-nurturance families and relationships, (c) effective communication skills, (d) healthy 3-level grief, and (e) stepfamily realities, norms, implications, and hazards. And...
4) the implications of little effective re/marital and co-parenting help (i.e. courtship coaching, classes, informed counseling, co-parent support groups) available in most communities and the media.
In my clinical experience, these factors will often promote needy, love-dazed, courting co-parents to commit to the wrong people (mate, stepkids, and "other parent/s"), for the wrong reasons, at the wrong time. Then these four factors inhibit co-parents from identifying and resolving these core personal, role, and relationship problems:

Book Description
This book is a collection of writings on aspects of painting in Delft during the period 1650-1675. Walter Liedtke, highly respected curator and scholar of Dutch and Flemish art, discusses at length the work of four artists: Carel Fabritius, Gerard Houckgeest, Pieter de Hooch, and Johannes Vermeer. Liedtke considers recent interpretations and research on these artists' works, exploring in particular the relationship between style and observation in their paintings. The book begins by examining the question of whether such a community or tradition as the "Delft School" ever existed and by reviewing earlier opinions on the matter. The second chapter is devoted to Fabritius's small townscape A View in Delft, its reconstruction as an illusionistic image originally mounted in a perspective box, and the painting's significance in the narrow and in the broadest sense. In the third chapter, Leidtke focuses on a specialized genre in Delft--views of actual church interiors--and offers another explanation of how naturalistic paintings, even those that carefully record existing sites, inevitably depend upon pictorial precedents. The fourth chapter on De Hooch and the "South Holland" tradition of genre painting prepares the way for the fifth, a look at Vermeer's early work. In the final chapter, the author considers Vermeer's work as a mature artist, one who has completely mastered his means.
