Good book for traveling in California and the West.......2001-07-10

The guide has a nice layout, which makes things easy to find. Each section gives a general overview of what there is to do in an area; this is a great starting point if you are not familiar with the location. I think this would be a great asset to anyone traveling about in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah.

A must-have for car travel in the West........2000-08-23

The Mobil Travel Guide for California was invaluable for our recent trips on the California coast and to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. My past experience with other Mobil Travel Guides is that their information is complete and accurate. The ratings system for hotels and restaurants are reliable and will steer you to excellent values and quality establishments. Unless an establishment is brand new, it is a safe bet that it has not been included in the Guide for a reason. The Guide is especially helpful for families who are looking for a quality hotel room or meal for a reasonable price.

We have used the maps in the Guide and it has helpful information for planning trips, including mileage and time between destinations. The individual listings of motels, hotels and restaurants give useful information regarding decor, amenities and pets. We moved our family and pets across country using the Mobil Guide to find hotels that accepted dogs in our price range. This is the finest resource for domestic travel that I have seen. I recommend that you buy it for planning your trip and don't forget to bring it along. We changed our travel plans in the Mojave desert and made reservations on our cell phone using the Mobil Guide to California and the West!

Nice Introduction.......2000-05-04

This book provides a simple introduction to options pricing for readers with moderate technical skills. A basic background in statistics and calculus are all that is needed to get through the book. The ratio of text to equations is much higher than in most derivative texts. I find the intuitive explanations to be excellent. Another nice feature is a systematic explanation of different option types, i.e. stock options, interest rate options, options on futures etc.

If I ever taught an undergraduate course on options pricing I would probably use this as the text.

Overall this book offers an excellent introduction to options pricing. Very readable.

I have used this book since the first addition and give it out to all new engineers coming into the pipeline industry, when they are envolved in costs for new piping projects.

An estimating book for all industry.......2004-10-22

I have used this book since 1986. It has been the cornerstone of my pipe estimating. It is easy to use and in most cases you can narrow a seemingly complicated estimating job down to a few tables. I recommend this book to any estimator charged with providing accurate budgets in industrial construction.
The book addresses carbon steel, stainless steel Heavy wall, large O.D. Staging, Insulation, Pipe Hangers and more.
The Author goes into detail in a clear and concise method about how to structure your estimate and provides a sample estimating sheet.
Even though the estimating sheet is about 30 yrs old. I have set one up in excel to match his format and it works beautifully.
A must book for any pipe estimator.

What a cool book! Scarves are hot fashion items, especially hand knitted ones, and this book contains modern, trendy patterns not found in other collections. Right now I'm working on the zig-zag triangles design, a new short rows technique I haven't tried before. There are variations on plain old garter stitch, on the basic elongated rectangle shape that adds a new directionality, on hairpin lace ( worked with knitting needles), and many other new twists. Each of the 24 patterns has clear instructions for using light, medium, and heavy weight yarns, and the possibilities are endless. Helpful diagrams accompany anything that is not straightforward, and if you can knit, purl, increase, and decrease, you can probably tackle any of these great designs. Making a small item like a scarf is a quick, inexpensive way of sampling new yarns and techniques.
Definitely 5 stars !

This book is a wonderful resource for simple ways to save money on your landscape projects. I highly recommend it for all gardeners and landscapers. It's unlike other garden books that just show pretty pictures and give the same old generic information. This book gives you straightforward advice on how to plan your garden, propagate your own plants with minimal effort and recycle materials for mulch. Everything in this book is about economy of time and money.

I love Mama Gena. She helps us who are WAAAAAAY too serious in achieving etc etc and are way too serious in life to just lighten up!!! She helps us get in touch with a part of ourselves that we may not even have known about!! Don't take it all so seriously, ladies!! Life is for living! She has helped me TREMENDOUSLY to just lighten up and enjoy being a woman- something I had never even considered and certainly didn't know how to to (as an "acheiver" all of my life!) Love this woman for reminding us of who we are as WOMEN.

I feel bad for the people who follow this advice.

We should learn that the word "pussy" does not denote something bad and dirty. Our bodies are beautiful and wonderful and do amazing things and we should love every part of them. Furthermore, how someone could despise the word "goddess" is beyond me. There are several forms of goddess religion in the United States. There is a form of goddess neopaganism that is incredibly rewarding for women who have been hurt and scarred by any of the various man-god religions. These feminine spiritualities often incorporate a reverence for the female body that includes, among other things, respect for the "pussy".

Great Book If You're Open To Having Fun!.......2006-10-25

She's blunt. She's brazen. You could even say she's a bit raunchy - {gasp!} - but she's right on track. It is not your usual self-help book that's for sure. Basically, Mama Gena is saying "lighten up" (which some people on this site obviously have trouble with) and enjoy being you! Give yourself a break. It's a hysterical book, but gets down to the nitty gritty in that most women really don't enjoy being themselves and that when you do start to enjoy being you - others enjoy being near you! I received this book from a friend when I was feeling very down about myself and my life. I found it very helpful and have forwarded it on to several other women in my life who enjoyed it. I would really recommmend it to any women who are feeling generally down and out, a bit blue raddley, or really just want a good laugh and a quick pick-me-up.

Great book- wish the images within werent so pixelated, some of the poems you can hardly read. I actually purchased this book via the Kreativ Network website, but I love it. The previous book called Broken Poems has more content, but for the price- this is a must for the Gonz collector.

Britain's Ministry of Defense attempted to ban this too-candid account of operations in Northern Ireland, but copies are now available for distribution in the United States.

The British effort in Northern Ireland made unprecedented use of electronic surveillance. The Special Air Service and other British elite assault units were highly dependent on information provided by a network of towers and other devices. Construction and maintenance of the towers was the job of the British Army's Royal Corps of Signals.

The author and his fellow troopers of the "R. Sigs" had to climb and work on the electronic towers in full view of an often hostile population and occasionally even under fire. Jack Williams' account adds a previously little-known dimension to the campaign in Northern Ireland and provides a first-hand account of previously unknown operations and techniques.

Having spent time in the Province employed in this very field, I was glad to see that someone had at last made the effort to write about this little known and overlooked task that is carried out on an almost daily basis. However now that I have read the book, I am disappointed that "Jack" felt it necessary to make constant vague references to "Special Forces". Although he did undoubtably work in support of these people, the tasks that he carried out and those carried out by other Royal Signals Riggers are daring and pulse racing enough without trying to hang on the back of other peoples glory. I think that "Jack" has missed the point. He could have told the story of these brave lads who risked their lives day after day, going to some of the hardest areas in NI, climbing towers in South Armagh, Belfast, Londonderry and East Tyrone without teams of "Operators" watching their backs. He does however get across the feeling of almost acute paranoia that is felt at the beginning and end of a tour, the mind numbing tiredness felt after long hours of stress combined with hard physical work and also the terrible heart ache when a friend is lost.

Jack's book is very good and realistic, it is an exceptional read and is a testament to all those unsung heroes who served their time in NI. Many lives were altered from the experience of serving within the conflict, many were just doing what they thought was an ordinary job in different circumstances just like Jack. What is refreshing is that Jack has written what we all wanted to say, but then we havn't the talent as a Writer. Whatever your standpoint when reading the book you can't help but feel sorry, not just for Jack but for the many other who were affected also.

A concrete bunker deep in bandit country that is surrounded by a wire mesh fence and claymore mines. There is a mast next to the bunker and the only way in or out of this location is by chopper.
Excerpt from the book:
`Bring your gear over,' shouted the load master.
We lugged it and stowed it under his supervision, then went back to our original spot, and waited. Power was fed into the chopper motor and the whir grew louder, shriller and more intense. They started to rotate slowly to begin with, then picked up speed until all blades blurred into one. The pilot looked back through his window and gave the thumbs up to the load master, `Come on,' he shouted waving his arm.
We boarded and sat facing the door as the load master clipped a line hanging from the roof to the harness he was wearing. The engine reached full pitch after he spoke into his microphone and we quickly rose into the air. As soon as we were clear of the buildings, the pilot banked a sharp right and shot forward catching all three of us unaware. A tickle of fear crept into me as I grabbed hold of the seat to prevent myself falling out of the open door.
The load master turned around and looked at us, smiling. He didn't say anything. He didn't have to. He could see by the look on our faces that they'd achieved what they'd set out to do. It was tactical flying all the way since the IRA had downed one of their choppers. It was exhilarating with no warnings of maneuvers. The big bird would suddenly rise or drop, or bank right or left to give us sinking and rising feelings in our stomachs.
THE CLIMB:
They stood by their slits. Switched on their night scopes. Scanned and adjusted. I waited until they came fully alive, then fastened on my belt.
It had turned into a clear night. Might as well have been daytime it was so light. The moon was like a giant searchlight beaming down. It revealed every detail in perfect clarity. Trees loomed on the surrounding hills beyond the fence. Bramble bushes could be seen distinctly at two hundred metres. The parts of the concrete bunker not covered by earth seemed to act like giant mirrors, and reflected the moon's rays everywhere. There was no hiding, and no turning back. The area was alive with animals scurrying and rustling in the undergrowth, calling to each other. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen. I'd often thought about taking a weapon up with me. I'd been through this many times. Each time realizing that the only thing I'd want to do if shot at would be to run down. I wouldn't be able to see where the shot came from, and the weapon would get in the way, on my mad rush down.
Gone were the days of jangling spanners and antennae banging on the mast. My rigging techniques were honed and perfected. No more shaking hands. No more trembling knees. No more breathlessness. Every move and ounce of energy spent were deliberate, and directed.
The wildlife sensed the tension in me. Went quiet. Waited.

A very interesting and easy-to-read book about a subject that I never really knew much about until now. I know all about the SAS and 14th Intelligence and Security Group, or whatever they call themselves nowadays, but neglected to think of the people, without whom the aforementioned security forces could not communicate, that risk their lives to climb 400+ foot masts to either put up or maintain antennae whilst under IRA gunfire, sometimes with fatal consequences. I read it in a night, but that was because I couldn't put it down. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the conflict in Northern Ireland and the military in general, but it is also a story of personal achievement. A very good read!

I laughed until I cried about Brummie and the horse turd in his burger.
You have a natural ability to write dialogue which is rare and the jargon of the squaddies is worth a study in itself. Your description of the sleeping arrangements at Bessbrook was a delight - one could almost smell the place and feel it. Ugh.
