Excellent book, I have marginal zone b-cell cancer and hep c from vietnam, I am currently working with my traditional medical Dr's. but also using as much natural medicine as I can find.
I 1st had to get my blood levels healthy enough to be able to be treated with traditional medicine, I believe this was done thanks to the info in this book helping me to process wheatgrass to juice and helping me to grow my own wheatgrass as it is not readily available in the town I live in.

Over the Top?.......2002-11-20

It's hard to know what to say about this book. It includes research abstracts and practical advice about incorporating wheat grass juice into your diet, but it comes close to attributing mystical properties to wheat grass, which seems to me to be a little over the top. If you are thinking of buying this book, it is probably because you or someone close to you has cancer or some other serious health problem. If you want to add wheat grass juice to a good nutrition plan and good medical care, this book will be helpful. If you are looking for a magic bullet or a miracle cure, this book might convince you that you've found it.

Lots Of Hype And Little Substance.......2001-09-26

When a book is entitled "Wheatgrass: Natures Finest Medicine" you expect the author to be enthusiastic about wheatgrass, but this book goes beyond enthusiasm and into cultishness. Other than a few tables of nutritional information, there is little factual information about wheatgrass. Nutrition isn't even discussed until the fifth chapter - after chapters extolling the great leaders of the wheatgrass movement and promoting the spiritual value of consuming wheatgrass, including comments about revitalizing your cosmic cell consciousness, and how Jesus (as recorded in secret gospels) encouraged his disciples to chew grass. Then there are the many true life stories of miraculous healings from cancer and spiritual awakenings obtained by eating wheatgrass, not to mention a lengthy promotion of various health and spiritual renewal sanctuaries and resorts. It may well be true that wheatgrass is a wonderful health food, but this book contains so much hype that even what substance there is becomes suspect.

Excellent source of information.......2000-05-19

If you have ever been curious about wheat grass then this is a very good book. It's now the rage at all the juice bars even at the mall. The book explains the different types of grass, why one is better than another and what to avoid. I now have a much sharper eye and always demand to see the wheat grass before it gets pressed. I avoid the juice bars with ignorant kids working at them because they don't know what they are doing and so why waste my time. It's not preachy and I also appreciate that too.

Lil finicky eater,...................2007-07-25

In my quest to find great, tasy, but HEALTHY food for my 6 year-olds' lunch box I have bought many books. I usually dont do this but, i was moved to make a comment. As busy single mother, I was very satisfied to find that this book was filled with items that even my picky daughter would eat and love, that were not complicated or time consuming to make. Plus alot of them were wonderful portable ideas that i felt that my daughter would not trade or throw away and i loved the fact that they were items that had nutrients in them to help her throughout the day while at school. It is filled with different ideas that deviate from the normal brown bag sandwich.

Just what the title says..........2007-03-12

This cookbook delivers what the title says: Kid Favorites Made Healthy. So if you want to make healthier chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, chili, tacos, banana bread, etc., then this cookbook is a great choice. I was looking more for full menu ideas that would appeal to my 7 and 4 year olds. There is one chapter for Dinner, and one for kid-friendly vegetables, but the rest are breakfast, snacks, lunch, desserts, and party ideas - not what I needed. If you have an overweight child, or are worried that one is heading in that direction, then you should get this. Tasty recipes made healthy, and exercise and nutrition info too!

amazing super cookbook.......2006-12-07

I cook for a daycare each day and this book is amazing. The recipes are simple, use every day ingredients, and are kid-tested recipes that are winners at the Lunch table. Thanks Better Homes and Gardens. I can't wait for the next addition!

One of the Best Kid's Cookbooks I've Found.......2006-05-15

In my quest to be a better cook (nothing burnt this week, folks, boo-yah!) I also wanted, of course, to cook healthier. Finding a children's cookbook that's healthy had has kid appeal is harder than you would think. After an evenings worth of searching at a bookstore through about a dozen "family" cookbooks, I finally came across this easy-to follow guide to making kid's favorites better for them without loosing the taste.

The other reviewer is dead on, however. There aren't a lot of veggie dishes, but it is well worth the purchase price if for nothing else it does break down the nutritional content for the recipes--this is lacking in almost every single kid's cookbook I perused. The Mac-n-cheese in this book, btw, more than halves the calories in normal homemade mac-n-cheese. From 660 to 310--that alone makes this book a good purchase.

It has a very friendly layout and you will find your kids enjoy reading it as well. There is the definite feel that busy moms wrote this cookbook as well... there's no funky ingredients and a lot of items come with simplified steps such as canned cresent rolls, etc.

Incidentally: if you're wanting to save on calories overall, I highly recommend the New Best LITE Recipe by Cook's Illustrated as well. But this little gem of a book lives up to it's title and this busy mom recommends it heartily. I highly recommend the onion rings.

Healthy? Try healthier........2006-04-24

I think a more appropriate name for this book would be, "Kid Favorites Made Healthier". I was a bit disappointed at the lack of vegetable dishes... or at least ones my family would eat. Having said that, I have actually used this book a lot. The recipes are simple and easily adaptable, for example, I'll use whole grain pastas and tortillas instead of the regular "white" ones called for in the recipes. There are pictures of most of the recipes which is always nice. Potential purchasers should be aware that many of the dishes use store-bought time-savers which was a plus for me but may be a turn-off for others. All in all, a good cookbook with good recipes... not great, but there are some real gems that make it worth the purchase.

Where do baskets come from?.......2000-03-25

Vaughan's book emphasizes collecting natural materials for basketry, with neat color pictures of appropriate vegetation. The last part of the book explains simple basket-making. Great enthusiasm builder and very useful guide for collecting. If you want more on weaving patterns as well as materials, look at Jensen's book "Baskets from Nature's Bounty."

This is a fine book, lots of good information, great photographs; but it is not hardcover. It is not available in hardcover. Amazon needs to fix this.

Widely acknowledged as one of the first landscape and genre painters in Italy, Jacopo Bassano (ca. 1510-1592) was highly regarded during his career for his brilliant treatment of light and color and for his innovative rural themes. Although he can be viewed as a pioneer pointing the way to the Dutch landscape painting of the seventeenth century, this Venetian painter is less known today than many of his contemporaries. In this book, Bernard Aikema uses a contextual approach to perform a much-needed iconological analysis of Bassano's painterly production. By tracing a remarkably consistent use of imagery grounded in a spiritual perspective, Aikema seeks to change our conception not only of the importance of Bassano's oeuvre, but also of the original function and development of genre and landscape painting in Northern Italy as compared to that in The Netherlands.

Aikema argues that Bassano developed an imagery that expressed itself in an antithetical mode of representation--in which a good Christian way of life is contrasted with a materialistic concept of human conduct. The author challenges the common belief that Bassano switched to rural settings and genre painting late in life in order to satisfy art collectors' demands for "pastoral" and "low-life" subjects. Even in paintings where the religious scenes are hidden in the background or are lacking altogether, these works had a primarily spiritual function. Aikema shows how such paintings served as visual aids to the changing devotional needs in the second half of the cinquecento.
