All Good Men was written to chronicle the experiences of a young lieutenant from the time he joined the First Artillery Battalion to fight in the Korean War in August 1950 until he returned home in December 1951. He describes in gripping detail his days as a forward observer in the Naktong Bulge during the searing heat of August, his exploits as a reconnaissance officer from the Pusan Perimeter through the dash to the Yalu River, his contribution as Assistant Operations Officer to the 52nd Field Artillery Battalion, and his days as a unit commander when he rebuilt his firing battery from scratch after losing most of his experienced personnel. With his untested unit he supported the final advance of the 21st Infantry Regiment 30 miles north of the 38th Parallel in October 1951. The author pays tribute to the men who gave their lives fighting in the stinking rice paddies and frozen hills of that unforgiving land under the harsh conditions of ground combat. His poignant comment is still true today. "They could stand tall in any nation's hall of heroes. They were all good men."

Sad pride.......2004-02-11

Colonel Hallahan's precisely written book evokes sad memories of a sad time in our country's history. US forces in the Far East,fresh from the epic achievement of having defeated the forces of imperial Japan, and then imbued with the mind set: "it's over--let's go home", were hastily thrown back into battle to stem the breech of the North Korean attack. As the author so pointedly relates, the politicians in Washington allowed the state of readiness of US forces to deteriorate to a disgracefull degree. The numbers of US KIAs and wounded in the Korean "police action" which were directly attributable to this neglect, may never be known. But "All Good Men" is about those who endured that neglect and who ceaselessly fought their way up and down the mountains of Korea in a seemingly endless round of "we win--they win" battles.

A tough, devoted patriot, and a proud graduate of the United States Military Academy, Colonel Hallahan presents to the reader a primer on how an artillery unit functions. That he is able to recount in such detail the many battles in which his unit took part, is a tribute to his goal of remembering and lauding his men and their successful execution of the unit's mission. His recollections of the many harrowing situations in which he and his men were forced to fight off the enemy, often in brutal weather conditions, while setting up their batteries, are highlights of the book.

"All Good Men" is a book of tribute to the members of our armed services. It is also, in its own way, a tribute to leaders like its author, Colonel Robert F. Hallahan, US Army (Ret.). The book is a good read for veterans and non veterans alike.

Book Description

Anne Kennedy, poet, writer, photographer and broadcaster, came from Orcas Island, off the coast of Washington state, to live in Galway, Ireland in 1977. Her first book Buck Mountain Poems, published by Salmon in 1989, is based on her Orcas experiences. The Dog Kubla Dreams My Life, also from Salmon, was published in 1994. A keen documentor of history, in 1993 she contributed an oral history project to the Duke Ellington archive in the Smithsonian Museum of American History. Anne's poetry collection Laurel Canyon will be published by Salmon in 1999 as part of special event celebrating her life and work during the Cuirt International Literature Festival in Galway, Ireland. Anne Kennedy died on 29th September 1998.

After coming to America by ship to finish his training, Joe finds himself falling in love with a beautiful Italian woman. Together they carve a new life within their social and cultural differences, and gain acceptance and prosperity within these new boundaries. He is faced with new dilemmas and challenges as he deals with the subtle racism prevalent in his life (is he black or white when he gets on a segregated bus? who will rent to an Asian? and why are only Asian doctors on call every weekend?).

Dr. Ryu offers us a peak into the sources of his inspiration by providing an appendix filled with quotes to guide us through our own challenges in life. We are reminded that our problems have been shared, discussed, and dealt with by wise people for hundreds, even thousands, of years.

My Life as a Salmon is a gift that will be treasured by those who read it now, and those who stumble across it many generations from now.

Hopeless..not any more!.......2006-09-13

This is the only plan that has ever worked for me. I had always been vastly overweight and tried every diet. Just do it..it works even without salads and exercise and you are not hungry. You choose your weight with every decision on what goes into your mouth. Just do it.

I read this books years ago, and when I found out the book was revised I had to have it. This book teaches you how to make a healthy eatting change for life, or just to lose those unwanted pounds. It tells you the importance of why you should not avoid carbohydrates, and it is very easy because you choose what you eat to loose weight, as long as you dont exceed your daily calorie or fat intake per day. It also teaches you why on 1000 caloried diets dont work because your body think it s starving and you dont loose weight because of so few calories. You can also save up for splurges. I think the hardest part in following this diet is eatting more than I am use to, when most diets you hardly eat. If interested in a positive eatting change where you can eat what you want, lose weight, drop your cholesterol level, and make this change for life, this is the book for you, I just love it, and the new me, because of it. Thank you Ron & Nancy Goor M.D. and Katherine Boyd R.D. for writing and sharing this book.

This is a great book, I've lost about 15 pounds using the techniques outlined, and have gone down from a 38 inch waste to a 35!!!! And I'm Still loosing. I'ts simple, keep count of those pesky fat calories, you will see results!!! This Book is a way of life for eating.

Having been on every diet in the world,I finally came to my own conclusion that diets simply don't work. This book is terrific for design ideas, or figuring out what to do with blocks from a swap or blocks you've made, but don't want to put into a standard straight or diagonal setting. Almost any setting from this book will enhance your blocks - Sharyn's ideas are all so wonderful, you'll be scrounging up old blocks to play with, and give them new life in the process.

Amazing Quilt Layouts!!.......2004-09-02

This book impressed me for several reasons. Bascially, the book empowers you to take very simple blocks an make fantastic quilts. Think of the stacks of blocks that you have from block of the months, experimenting, or from UFO that you may never finish. This book will give you so many ideas as to how you can create your own masterpiece from your blocks.

When you flip through the book, you see that it is well organized into chapters that give you Sharon's different roadmaps. I am so looking forward to going back and studying each chapter to determine what I want to do with my blocks.

One theme throughout the book shows how you can take the same plain sawtooth blocks and create totally different layouts. These illustrations really opened my minds to the endless possibilities (I know this phase is over done, but it does fit here).

Throughout the book, she takes you through the process step by step. Also, in the back of the book, the author includes many tables to assist with the math in making your ideas a reality.

I am very impressed with this book! It gave me so many ideas that I had trouble sleeping last night!!

A good introduction about the subject.......2007-07-25

We bought this book to read about this concept which was new to us. We have practiced so far some of the excercises, like the Kick Game and playing music and talking with the baby. I guess some of these excercises make sense because they are related to our culture. We are anxious to see the results.

I would recommend this book for parents-to-be who want to build bonds with their children before they are born.

I bought the book and the BabyPlus Prenatal Education System recommended by it. I used this for my baby from month 5 of my pregnancy. The system recommends that the product is used twice daily for one hour each session. Because I didn't find any reviews, I decided to be a little conservative and only used it for half an hour once a day. Here are my results:

My baby is now almost 3 months old.

Babies are born more relaxed with their eyes and hands open, and crying little: This is very true. Many people have commented on how alert my newborn was. He also started following black-and-white objects with his eyes since he was two days old ! He is WAY ahead with his visual milestones.

Babies nurse better: this is partly true. My baby latched on right away. Unfortunately, he would fall asleep after 10 minutes, so I ended up having to switch to the bottle.

Babies sleep better: once their night-day cycles are resolved, it definitely seems like my baby sleeps well at night. Not sure if this is just his temperament or due to the BabyPlus.

Babies and children have longer attention spans and reach developmental milestones more quickly: the attention span is very true for my child. He can focus on books we read to him for 20 or 30 minutes at a time! He will play with his baby gym for an hour before needing attention! Regarding the milestones, he is ahead on some, on time with others, behind on some.

Babies have advanced language, musical, and creative abilities: he loves music, but with the other stuff it is too early to tell

Babies and children have enhanced curiosity and the ability to gather and process information very quickly: my baby definitely seems very curious about the world around him.

Babies and children have a better ability to self-soothe: Probably true. Hard to say.

Children demonstrate expanded cognitive abilities - testing has shown higher than average IQs: too early to tell with my baby

Prenatal Stimulation.......2001-07-09

The whole idea of prenatal stimulation fascinated me. There was some mention of it in another book I was reading and so I bought this book to find out more. I was not disappointed. It is easy to understand the concepts behind the communication you are having with your unborn baby because the book explains why you are doing what you are doing. It also backs up the notion of prenatal stimulation with case studies and results. This is my fourth child, the other three being ages 19, 22 & 23, so this concept is very new to me and it's wonderful and exciting to be able to participate in a process where I can give my unborn child "one up" by the time she is born.

A good but partial beginning.......2001-06-08

The method presented in this book is useful, although it includes no controlled scientific evidence for either short or long-term benefits. I would strongly suggest expectant parents to look at Dr. Sarah Brewer's Super Baby, and especially the proven approach that author recommends, the BabyPlus prenatal enrichment system (www.babyplus.com), which Dr. Van de Carr's method could complement.

Disappointing.......2006-02-19

A friend bought this book for me. I, too, have battled breast cancer. The photos of Lynn posing with her battle scars were very poignant, but I really wish that this had been more of a book about her story. There is very little text in the book--I read it in about 20 minutes. The photos of her and by her are all very good, but I was disappointed that the book was almost entirely made up of photos. I guess I was hoping for more inspiration. The size of the book itself (it is extremely large) made it clumsy to read.

Lynn Front to Back by Lynn Kohlman.......2006-02-12

I wanted to read this book ever since I saw Lynn and Donna Karan on the Oprah show. I was impressed with their friendship.

This is a beautiful graceful book with soul. Lynn's essence,strength,inner & outer beauty shine through every single page. Her photography is magnificent.

I came away feeling better towards the world and all the creatures in it. I feel clearer (fresher)about the priorities in my own life. This is a wonderful inspiring book that captures a journey of life, it's textures, colors and challenges. I did not put it down until I finished it. If she publishes more books - count me in! I will buy sight unseen.

there is no other word to describe this book besides amazing. it was such a life changing book to read. it helped me realize so many things about my life, and just proved how extraordinary of a person lynn is. i would recommend this book to anyone who has any interest in fashion or photography.

This is a book about an extraordinary woman supported with love and sensitivity from a very special family. It sets the bar for how we might deal with challenges, and it reminds us of our mortality. It is quite a gift that Lynn has shared this part of her life.
