Mr. Gentle is perpetuating a frustrating myth. Fungi (even the carnivorous fungi) are NOT plants. Fungi have been classified in their own Kingdon for nearly a half a century and recent molecular evidence has actually shown that fungi and animals are more closely related to each other than either is to plants! (see the journals Science vol 260 pg.340-342 and Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (USA) vol. 90 pgs. 11558-11562 for more details). This result in part explains why fungal infections such as athelete's foot and other human pathogens are so difficult to cure; human and fungal biochemistry is much more similar than human and bacterial biochemistry. (Remember, fungi produce many of our antibiotics).

This book is not a how-to on the modern methods of Point and Figure charts, as Tom Dorsey's book is. It is however an important historical classic, which makes you think about the psychology behind the buyers and sellers and gives some insights into trading the point and figure charts that the more modern books don't. Well worth the small price for the paperback if only for the sections on the fulcrum.

However, there is one major problem about false signal (either buy or sell signal), about which the author never mentions and never gives any suggestions to solve this obstacle. The Point & Figure Method of Anticipating Stock Prices.......2000-03-25

Is a good primer for the novice technician to decide whether or not persue further study of Point and Figure Charts. The book can be read in an hour or so, however, I found his writing style somewhat tedious but clear. Another draw back is that the print is small and poor quality in places, probably because it's a reproduction of the original. Since the book was written there have been a few improvements to the construction, recognition of more patterns, and optimization of P&F charts. None of these improvements are earth-shaking as they are only refinements that have evolved in the changing markets.

For advanced study, John J. Murphy's comprehensive book, "Technical Analysis of the Futures Markets," goes well into detail of the construction of P&F charts, many pattern examples, and suggestions how to optimize them. Although Murphy wrote the book around the futures markets, it applies to stock equites, mutual funds, options, and indices as well.

I purchased this item with the expectation that it would help me outline important terminology and concepts. It didn't. Since the textbook I purchased through the Amazon marketplace had some highlighting, the CRAM101 purpose was moot. Barely worth buying at all. The textbook had the same definitions in the margins.

I found this book to be a treasure of wonderful projects! I had hard time deciding what to make first! It is made up of 30+ patterns submitted by yarn shops all over the nation. The patterns range from beautiful sweaters, throws and bags, to pillows, toys and children's wear. These are patterns for items you see in the windows and on display in yarn shops that make you want to buy yarn and knit!

Sprinkled through out the book are clever tips and hints from each yarn shop that aid all knitters from expert to beginner. These are not the same tips you find in other knitting books, these are innovative tips from real knitters.

The patterns are timeless, classic and very beautiful designs that are definitely not dowdy or dated. These will stand the test of time. Each pattern includes a short article about the yarn shop that submitted it. It gives the book a relational touch... that there are human hands and hearts behind the compilation of these patterns. Knitting is such an extension of one's heart and hands, this book really combines that human element of this craft.

I have already made three projects out this book and have plans to make many more. If you truly enjoy knitting and want designs that will not go out of style before your next dental appointment, or that you will not be afraid to wear outside of your home, this book will not disappoint you.

Very good and comprehensive book on knitting.......2007-01-13

This is a very good book about knitting. What I like most is all of the different tips and suggestions for knitting techniques. They are very good tips that are easy to follow and remember. The patterns that are provided in the book are very good as well. It is nice because there is a good variety of patterns. I have been knitting for over 40 years and still found the book very helpful and informative. I would highly recommend this book for all knitters, no matter how experienced.

Not on the Knitting Edge.......2006-03-26

I was disappointed with the book. I found some of the patterns to be old fashioned...and not quite retro yet. I am planning to knit the rug, but have not chosen a project from the book yet.
This is a book you should check out of yoru library before you commit. A long list of knitting stores is at the front of the book.

Buyer Beware of this Beautiful Book.......2005-03-07

This book, while beautiful to look at, has many errors. The publisher's web site contains an errata and should be looked at before any of the projects are begun.
On another note, I did make the My Constant Companion bag and enjoyed it tremendously. The bag gets a lot of compliments.

I've had this book for a couple weeks now and am quite pleased with it. While I don't think there is anything unique about the patterns included there are some interesting yarn shop blurbs. A nice book to pick up and look at from time to time. Not just a pattern book.
