Book Description
Unknown to almost everyone Paul Richey started this sequel to his acclaimed book Fighter Pilot in 1941, but was unable to continue it beyond the initial chapters. Now, aviation author and historian Norman Franks, by gaining exclusive access to Paul's papers and diaries, has completed the work.
Richey, despite being seriously wounded in the Battle of Britain, returned to fly a tour of operations from RAF Biggin Hill in 1941 as a flight commander in 609 (West Riding) Squadron, RAuxAF, and gain a bar to the DFC he won in France. Fighter Pilot's Summer is the story not only of 609 Squadron's offensive war during that momentous summer, but also of Paul's exploits to the end of the war at Fighter Command HQ and then in India and Burma.
Customer Reviews:
A book of two parts.......2007-02-07
As Fighter Pilot, Commander Richeys first book on his experiences as an RAF pilot in France in the pre Dunkirk period, is a classic and one of my all time favourites, I was happy to see that he had finally done a sequel. However it has one huge problem, unfortunately the Commander passed away before he'd finished much more than the first seven chapters and whilst this is written in the same engaging informative style as used in Fighter Pilot. The rest of the book is pretty much a biography written by Norman Franks and though informative, is very dry and it depends rather too much on dates and statistics.
It is still an extremely good book, but the sudden transition between the two authors and they're contrasting writing styles is a bit jarring. Those who have read and loved Fighter Pilot will want to read this volume as well, but as a stand alone book it has unfortunately been marred by unavoidable circumstance.

When publishers chose barely readable fonts, it is almost always to try and disguise just how bad the book they are trying to sell you is.
This one's printed in a truly horrid font, and it's baaad.
Vanity publishing?

Book Description
It's easy to identify rage in people who lose their temper at traffic jams, unruly children, unresponsive coworkers, and unrealistic bosses. But we may not recognize more subtle manifestations of anger, such as being uncomfortable with loose ends, acting impatiently, or being overly critical. That is anger, too. And, as is so often the case, angry folks don't seem to realize that the behavior causing them problems at home or at work actually stems from unrecognized and unresolved pain and emotional injuries from the past. Is all this negative emotion inevitable, or are there choices about how to respond, choices that can improve personal relationships as well as emotional health?
The Anger Trap is a landmark book that strips away the myths and misconceptions about anger and reveals how you can learn to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy anger so that you may choose— or help someone else to choose— a better, more spiritually enlightened path. The Anger Trap examines the root causes of anger and can help you realize your patterns and break the destructive cycles of criticism, frustration, and irritation that hurt you and others around you. Drawing insight from timeless spiritual wisdom as well as cutting-edge research, Dr. Carter offers practical techniques to free you from anger, its hidden insecurities, fears, and selfishness and thereby improve the quality of your home and workplace life. The book clearly illustrates how the change process works and The Anger Trap is filled with real-life examples of the ways people have come to terms with their anger by applying the concepts Dr. Carter outlines.
Customer Reviews:
Very, very helpful and insightful book.......2007-03-03
I just finished reading this book and it's really opened my eyes up to a lot about myself and the traits of anger.
I've been dealing with my anger now for about six months. I waited too long to finally pick up a book and read it, and this was the first one I read. Dr. Carter uses many actual therapy sessions to demonstrate various traits of anger, and how they can affect a person. At the end, he gives you many options and ideas on how to better yourself as a person while releasing yourself from the bad side of anger.
If you are feeling a sense of anger that does not help in your everyday life, be it your relationship or profession, I highly recommend reading this book. It will open up your eyes and make you think, and make you want to change.
Well Done........2007-02-19
This is a great book book Dr. Carter. I found it very eye-opening and to the point.
Easy to Read and Very Practical.......2007-01-08
This reference is one of the best self-help books out there. The author has obviously spent a great deal of time in this field, and he has a knack for imparting his accumulated knowledge so that anyone can understand it. He uses stories about real people to illustrate various problems that can arise, and then shows how they can be resolved. Very easy to read. Also very easy to use, as the author gives concrete methods to handle many common situations. I very much appreciate the time and effort Dr. Carter has taken to put this together, and believe it will help many to deal not only with their own anger, but with the anger of people expressed around them. Excellent work!
the anger workbook.......2007-01-05
my husband and i went thur this 13wk anger workbook w/our ss teacher's it has been very freeing for both of us....so much so that we have purchased more of the books to pass on to friends we have who we know need to work out some anger issues in their lives :)if you have angry issues in your life and need some direction on how to dispose it, this is the book for you :) never give up,god is faithful, he has promised us abundant life, keep pressing.... thank you dr les carter and dr frank minirth :)
Great first effort.......2006-02-25
This is the first book I have read about anger. I grew up with an angry mother and a rageful father so this is an issue that needs attention in my life.
I basically chose this book after doing an Amazon search simply using the word anger. Then I read reviews of several of the options and chose this one.
The author seems to have an experienced and reasonable approach to the subject. As with most books, a definition, exposition is at the beginning, wherein the author firmly places responsibility for change on the reader, which in my mind is where it must be.
I liked that fact that the author does not make any promises of erasing a persons anger, but rather gives options of how to deal with it effectively.
I would like to recommend this book to anyone who deals with anger as the person experiencing it or living with someone who suffers from it. Perhaps this work is no magic bullet, but if taken seriously, can bring some relief and illumination to this often daunting emotion.
My two cents... ; >

Book Description
With the plethora of dog training books on the market, how do you choose which is right for you and your new puppy? We've tried to address this issue by offering a new series of training books designed to be clear, concise and reliable in our training message. Author Jason Smith is a freelance outdoor writer who is currently the associate editor of The Retriever Journal and The Pointing Dog Journal. He has also co-authored three books on the sport of wingshooting. His expertise in dog training is easy to access in this book as he discusses the golden retriever personality, breed characteristics and history, selecting a litter and puppy, early obedience training and socialization, land and water retriever training, training for tricks, grooming, preventative care, typical golden retriever ailments and general canine ailments. The informative and entertaining text is illustrated with over 100 color photographs to help you effectively train your Golden.
Customer Reviews:
Basic categorization........2004-07-08
Does not seem to have personal extraction information. Not the perfect referance for owners or prior purchasers. Text is basic categories for owners or hunting animals. The author does not explain creature maintainence or dietary supplements. This manual is incomparable to other, more insightful guides. This also applies to The Essential Golden Retriever, which has no technical hints and mediocre purchasing information. Some breed books are unequaled, but this particular publishing is sub par.
Look elsewhere..........2001-02-12
This book is geared towards hunting folks and not the general Golden owning public. I do not recommend it for a general book on the breed. The pictures are nice, though.
The Best Book.......2001-02-05
This is the best book about Golden Retrievers. I advise this book to all people who have a Golden Retriever If you are not sure, which breed to select to take.I think you must read this book before making making any decisions
Book Description
A serger is a multi-threaded, multi-needled appliance that sews at an average speed of 1500 stitches per minute--three times faster than most sewing machines. Though expressly designed to finish edges and seams, the introduction of microchip technology has enabled the serger to go well beyond those simple tasks. Sewers who want to take full advantage of this miracle machine need look no further than this thoroughly up-to-date and comprehensive manual. It's fully illustrated with both photos and line drawings, and offers complete instructions for every type of serger available to the hobbyist today. Each one is listed by brand, with a description of its pros and cons. And that's not all; there are plenty of projects, too, including scarves, throws, shirts, gowns, bedcovers, and quilts. A Selection of the Crafters Choice Book Club.
Customer Reviews:
THIS is the serger book that deals with Cover & Chain Stitches!.......2007-09-30
I went through so many serger books before I finally found this one that gives tips & ideas for using the cover & chain stitch functions on the TOL sergers!! The book is worth the purchase price just for that. It also contains good basic, entry level serger information, and some interesting garment projects that will help you stretch your serging muscles and get you thinking about all kinds of creative possibilities.
Creative Serging.......2006-02-25
I loved this book. It has lots of photos and the instructions are accurate. Lots of ideas, too.
disappointed.......2006-01-07
I found this book very disappointing. I have a large collection of sewing & serging books that are inspiring and useful, and this book isn't either of those. There are few applications in this book I would ever use, and it most likely will just sit on the shelf.

Book Description
Mary Schmich's inspiration began simply enough. While walking to work one day, she spied a young woman basking in the sun. "That girl should be wearing sunscreen," she thought. That same day while under deadline pressure, she used a bit of advice to launch her next column. The fictional commencement address she wrote was an enchanting and insightful column that appeared in her regular space in the June 1, 1997, edition of the Chicago Tribune. What followed, however, was far from simple. Posted on the Internet, Schmich's column quickly became an international sensation. Friends e-mailed it to friends; the media picked up on it and a star was born. There was only one problem: Everyone thought the column was an actual commencement address given by author Kurt Vonnegut. "What she wrote was funny and wise and charming." Vonnegut told the New York Times, "so I would have been proud had the words been mine." But now the truth is out, and Schmich continues to be lauded for her witty and poignant look at life. "Do one thing every day that scares you." "Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room." "Get to know your parents. You never know when they'll be gone for good." This book will, no doubt, become the hot graduation gift for high schoolers and college students as they embark on the world.
Customer Reviews:
Great gift for graduate.......2007-06-27
I work at a high school so know the marjority of the graduates but there are always a select few who I become close to over the 4 years they are in our building. I was looking for a little something to give them as a graduation gift when I came across this book. It is a great gift for the graduate with lots of helpful and sometimes silly advice.
Words of wisdom for all.......2006-02-27
Baz Luhrman was inspired by the Vonnegut hype and got Quindon Tarver to do the vocals. Together they spread the word to the next generation who may not want or think they need advice from "ols farts, what do they know".
On August 3, 1997, Ms Schmich writes about the work that was heard round the world:
"But out in the lawless swamp of cyberspace, Mr. Vonnegut and I are one. Out there, where any snake can masquerade as king, both of us are the author of a graduation speech that began with the immortal words, 'Wear sunscreen.'
I was alerted to my bond with Mr. Vonnegut Friday morning by several callers and e-mail correspondents who reported that the sunscreen speech was rocketing through the cyberswamp, from L.A. to New York to Scotland, in a vast e-mail chain letter.
Friends had e-mailed it to friends, who e-mailed it to more friends, all of whom were told it was the commencement address given to the graduating class at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The speaker was allegedly Kurt Vonnegut."
The genius about the poem is that it is insightfull and insidiously makes you think. Frankly all good art makes you think long after the performance is finished.
A+ to the collaborative effort of the 3 artists who made it oh so memorable and the one who started it all!
Great Pick Me Up.......2002-05-14
Got this book as a gift when I was feeling down...now have given it out to several friends as pick me up gifts as we all go through some sort of midlife crisis. It's been there for me when I needed it...
This is a song.......2000-08-30
I bought this book thinking that it was a little bit more than the song "Wear Sunscreen." This book is only The words to the song. It is a great book, I just wanted to make sure that you knew that it is the words to the song and nothing else.
A book for everyone.......2000-05-20
I gave 7 copies of this book to friends at our college graduation. It is simple, straight forward wisdom for everyday people.

Book Description
I See You, I See Myself, written for young adult readers, examines the early experiences and choices that led Jacob Lawrence to become an artist. In bold colors and precise language, the book describes how the break up of his parents, a period of foster care, reunification with his mother, brother, and sister in Harlem, and the influence of other adults in his community shaped the decisions Lawrence made about his art and his life. The hurdles that he faced -- moving, parent separation, and discrimination -- are ones that challenge many children today. I See You, I See Myself describes how the choices one makes in dealing with these challenges start to shape a personís life. It includes 65 color illustrations of Lawrenceís work, accompanied by photographs documenting his early experiences in the Harlem community.
Jacob Lawrence was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1917. Moving from there to Easton, Pennsylvania, and finally to Harlem in 1930, his family was part of the Great Migration of African Americans who relocated to the North from the South. Raised among the ìNew Negroesî -- the emerging African American writers, artists, and poets who were a manifestation of the Harlem Renaissance -- Lawrence was one of the first artists trained in and by the African American community in Harlem. At Utopia Childrenís House, a community daycare center, Lawrence received his earliest art instruction from Charles Alston, then a graduate student at Columbia University Teachers College. Lawrence continued to study with Alston throughout the 1930s at the WPA Harlem Art Workshop and at Alstonís studio. He encountered notable artists, writers, and activists, such as Langston Hughes, Ralph Ellison, William Aaron Douglas, Orson Wells, Alain Locke, Addison Bates, and Augusta Savage, who had a profound effect on his development as an artist.
