Kusudama is a decorative ball, which is originally used on festive occasions. It is now popular as ornaments and mobiles. Kusudama origami is composed of a variety of units joined together. It is different from ordinary unit origami, because it uses string or glue to put it together. This book
illustrates how to make a basic traditional kusudama by adding colorful simple units together. In the same method, the book introduces a basic cube with four square sides and a basic ball that combines six square sides and eight regular triangle sides. Their enchanting applications will be

The models are very easy for an experienced folder and turn out beautiful. Everybody whom I have shown them to was amazed. The figures are wonderful and are great gifts.
Fun and interesting designs.......2004-11-09
I bought this book a couple of weeks ago and can't seem to stop folding...The instructions are easy to follow, provided you know a little bit about origami (just some basic folding techniques, which you can learn online.) The designs are very interesting, though very time consuming. Block out some time to do this! When I finished my first Kusudama piece, I was so pleased at how beautiful it was. I have experimented with lots of different papers and achieved great results, even with papers that were not japanese. My favorite is the bouquet of lilies, which is stunning in bright colors. I definitely recommend this book to those who would like to pick up a new hobby and wow their friends and family with amazing gifts.
Glue and string required -- just so you know!.......2003-03-31
I guess I was spoiled by the wonderful boxes and stars and balls and all, but for some reason I was expecting these to follow her previous practice of assembling without recourse to glue and/or string. These, however, in the fashion of traditional kusudama, do require the inclusion of materials other than paper. I found this a bit disappointing...
That said, the models are, as one has come to expect from Tomoko Fuse, lovely and interesting variations on traditional patterns and amazing innovations, and I recommend this book enthusiastically! If you understand in advance that this is not strictly modular origami like her other books, you'll be spared the modicum of disappointment I felt.

Not the best.......2001-12-15
The instructions are fairly clear and easy to follow, but I was disappointed with the end products. They just weren't very interesting or attractive. I was also disappointed to find that many of the models required glue and/or string to attach the units together. I would recommend "Origami Ornaments : The Ultimate Kusudama Book" over this book any day.
Good introduction to decorative unit origami.......1997-05-20
Makoto Yamaguchi has provided a good, solid book for introducing the novice folder to the glories of unit origami, while still providing a challenge to the more experienced folder. Clear instructions are always a challenge in origami, but I have used this book from the day I bought it without frustration or boredom. Do not be deceived by the drawings and photographs: the finished products are strong and beautiful!
My only complaint with the book is that the paper chosen for the examples is not the most flattering to the models. Each piece I have built has been much more attractive than its picture.
Add a small touch of imagination, and the models in this book provide endless possiblities for producing beautiful ornaments for yourself and your friends.

A New Way of Teaching Origami.......2002-03-10
This book is excellent to teach middle school students the art of origami. There are many different designs that students will enjoy. Students enjoy origami with complicated folds and this one has several ones.
A great ornament book!.......2001-12-15
I don't agree with the review saying there were problems. I have made the Lantern and many others without any problems. The instructions are very clear and the results are great looking! I especially like the fact that they are "pure" origami (no glue or cutting required).
However, it definately would have been nice to have actual photographs of the finished products. But this is still the best book I have found for making ornaments and/or balls. It is a lot better than "Kusudama : Ball Origami" which required glue and/or string for several of the models.
Very good but with problems.......2001-06-11
Kusudams without glue: a pleasure! I made the Two-Dimesional icon ,Three-Dimensional icon, Where's up? (i very love this last) (7 squares for all). The Cube (20 squares) is wonderful because it have something as wings.The Magic cube (14 squares) look good too. The Tristar (6 squares) need a pair of tweezers but his form is very pleasant (triangle). But i had some problems with others. The Lantern and the Lightstar lantern didn't need squares the same size! This book haven't pictures inside. When i'll made others kusudamas i'll write to tell what i think of the rest.

This book has very clear explanations, and nice designs. No actual photographs of the projects, except the ones in the cover, which is why I rated it 4 stars. Having photos of the actual projects would have helped a lot in the construction of these models.

Purrfect Parenting.......2007-02-14
I LOVED this book and I went on line to order it for some friends. My book is in full color and the ones that I ordered on Amazon are black and white only and it take away some of the comic book effect that the book held special. I LOVE this book but I am very dissapointed that they do not specify when the books are in color or black and white when this book comes in either.

A succinct review of basic parenting skills. A little too optimistic when describing time out procedures, but otherwise a great "primer" for parents.

I was haveing big problems with my 4 year old adhd son and his consler showed me this book and you know alot of this book was me! I really did not realize it till I was showed that I was just giving my son control of ME and I was not really being the parent. I was letting me son run My life and this book made me see that. THANK YOU FOR COMING OUT WITH A BOOK TO SHOW US PARENTS THAT THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PURRFECT PARENT BUT WE ALL ARE STILL LEARNING! I am still learning to this day. My son seems happier that I am not putting so many adult decisions on him but that I am letting him be a child! once again thank you so much and I hope other parents find this book as helpful as I did. I do not own one yet but I'm trying to get one.Times are rough for me right now but as soon as I get back on me feet, And hopefully soon I will buy the used one. This is a light hearted book about the very serious job of parenting. Sound simple advice that works! I am anxious for this book to be re-printed. I used it with my now 14 year son an would love an updated version to use with my 18 month old twins. I would definately give this book as a gift at baby showers or to those parents that are having difficult times with their children. So please, please, please give us more of PURRFECT PARENTING!!!

Everything you need to raise polite, nice, well-mannered kids (works for pets, too!) is in this book. It's not rocket science, but you DO need to be consistent, firm, and rational. It might be easy to dismiss the content based on the humorous presentation, but this book will solve (and prevent!) your child(ren)'s behavioral and discipline issues.
PLEASE REPUBLISH THIS TITLE! We loaned ours out and it is gone. We want to give this book to all our friends with kids, but can't and now we can't lend it.
