Put your dinero where your boca is..........2003-10-07

The reader from Atlanta really trashes this dictionary and takes care to provide some examples of the flaws discovered. I was surprised, because it was recommended to me by an official translator in Madrid and I was considering purchasing it. Given that the Atlanta reader doesn't like the Rutledge dictionary, I'd really appreciate his/her recommendation of a better dictionary to serve as reference for business translations, especially in the investment field. Thank you.

Many, many errors.......1999-11-23

There are literally dozens of errors in this dictionary. "Banner year" is translated literally as "año insignia," which is nonsense in Spanish. "Mover and shaker" is also translated literally ("promotor e impulsor"). It's as though the author didn't understand English! Other absurdities are "herein" (aquí dentro--should be "en el presente"), hereunder (más abajo--should be "conforme al presente"), etc. Again, these are literal translations that do not fit in business or legal writing. "Judicial notice" which is actually "reconocimiento de hechos notorios" is translated as citación judicial--again, complete lack of understanding of the term. I'd stay away from this one like the plague.

Best Spanish Commercial Dictionary.......1999-09-02

As a translator who specializes in financial and commerical texts, I can honestly say that the Routledge is the most complete dictionary I have found on the subject. There is nothing that compares to it.

wonderful photos and unusually literate text.......1998-06-02

This has the wonderful photos we've come to expect from big, glossy garden books. But it also has an unusually literate text (from Brit-born Higgins, who writes regularly on gardens for the Washington Post) that makes the book of interest to out-of-Washington gardeners as well as those interested in Georgetown backyards. Higgins is also unusual in giving credit to the gardeners who do the upkeep on these gardens as well as the landscape architects who got big bucks for designing and installing them. One interesting note: one of the gardens belongs to Christopher Ogden, another to Pamela Harriman. Ogden, a Time magazine Washington correspondent, wrote a biography of the late Mrs. Harriman which she didn't much like. Higgins is soon to publish a guide to gardening in the Washington area which ought to be good.

This is a great book to read. It is helpful to understand the problem that parents cause by sending conflicting signals to children. It also gives practical advice in how to teach your children to speak to stranges and others to avoid sexual abuse or abduction. It teaches you the ideas and concepts you need to better equip your children with the skills they need. Very helpful.

Practical methodology for educating your child.......1999-12-10

I came across this book a couple of years ago. It is an excellent resource for improving a child's awareness towards becoming independently secure as much as possible. As Dr. Kraizer notes in this book, the only person a child can rely on ALL the time is him- or herself. The very practical method prescribed by Dr. Kraizer helps a child become more aware of potential dangers without alarming them. I highly recommend this book for any parent or teacher.

I picked up this book... last week on a recommendation from a friend of mine. Talk about enjoying something. I can relate to these times and these guys. I grew up in the 50'S but we hung around a movie theater. I hope he writes a sequel and doubles the amount of pages. 3 cheers for the book....

The Author Michael Maione-book called Tootys Corner, was absolute the most exciting books I've read, the book talks about life on the South side of Chicago-I want to applaud Michael Maione on a job well done.

Guys & Events growing up on Chicago's South Side.......2000-01-06

Tooty's Corner is a book about guys & events growing up on Chicago's South Side around Tooty's Grocery store has touched me where I can relate to Mike Maione's richly detailed stories. Nostalgia for those days of innocence, when a bunch of guys took streetcar rides downtown got in trouble ate White Castle sliders, played four corner baseball. I would make this a treat for everyman. The guys held a reunion in 1995 and launced new friendships with the help of this book. Its the best little book you gonna find.

I went to a book signing in Evanston a few months back where Mike Maione and some of the guys were signing books. It is a fun crowd, they really enjoy what they are doing. The author said something that day, which I will never forget, because I grew up in that time period. He said you know they were the golden years, not today. He is right they were.

Just bought the book in Boston at a Booksigning wish it was longer. I read it in 2 hours. I know I will be reading it again and again. Love the Characters, the Richie Rags, Richie Cats etc. I knew the same guys growing up on my corner in Philadelphia in the 1960's. The nice thing also is that there is no violence in the book. How refreshing.....
