Cute.......2007-01-10
Cute book but I was not aware of the religous aspect of it. Would I have known before I would not have purschased it.
Toddlers love these books!.......2006-03-21
Duckling is Patient is another great book in the First Virues Series. This series is great for introducing virtues to your toddlers. Each book explains the virtue in ways they can understand and gives examples from life. Each book also gives a Bible verse that they can memorize easily. I have all these books and they have helped me lay the groundwork for moral training in my three year old son, and I plan to use them on our baby girl as soon as she's old enough. (I would use these books for ages 1- 4 1/2.)
Book Description
This best-selling anthology of readings with case studies provides insightful and comprehensive treatment of ethical issues in medicine. Appropriate for courses taught in philosophy departments as well as in schools on medicine and nursing, the collection covers provocative topics such as conflicts of interest in medicine, advance directives, physician-assisted suicide, and the rationing of health care. The effective pedagogical features include chapter introductions, argument sketches, explanations of medical terms, headnotes, and annotated bibliographies.
Customer Reviews:
given other names in the field - Delightfully readable!.......2004-12-10
This is an excellent overview of the myriad of issues that fall under the term "biomedical ethics". This was used as one of the texts for my health care ethics graduate course, and I could actually read this. Although Childress and Beauchamp may be considered the "standards" in the field, they are also when known for being very difficult to read (my prof warned us on day one that their "Introduction" would be very heady, and the warning rang true the moment I opened their book).
This book brings together writings from numerous excellent authors that are all very easy to digest, particularly in light of other "introductions" available. I enjoyed this book immensely. Not only did it help me greatly in my studies, it has also helped me greatly in navigating my own health care. Whether you are reading for academic pursuits, or are otherwise interested enough in the field to buy a book about it, I highly recommend THIS ONE!
A Very Good Introduction to Bioethics.......1999-07-15
Biomedical Ethics is a wonderful introduction to bioethical issues. The authors' styles of writing are (usually) easily understandable, and the inserted case studies make for interesting reading. More of a textbook than a "quickread".

Customer Reviews:
Unlightening.......2007-07-29
Having read Golf in the Kingdom, and Inner Game of Golf some time ago, I looked forward to this more recent book on mental aspect of golf.
My handicap has drifted up from 3 to 6 over the last year, so I was looking for a fresh approach. The day after reading the first 130 pages, I resolved to play without fear, not be upset by bad shots, and enjoy my playing partners.
With OB left, trees to the right, I striped my drive on the 440 yd par 4, followed by a 5 iron to 8 feet, and drained the putt. What a great book!
Four hours later I found myself in the clubhouse having shot a 90 for the first time in over 20 years, with four OBs and five 3 putts.
It's a good thing that "looking good" was no longer important to me, as I endured the ribbing, jabs and outright taunts of several of my fellow players.
I'll finish the book. But most likely you'll find it listed on the Used Books here very shortly.
Enlightening Book on Golf.......2007-05-19
This is an excellent presentation of the spiritual side of the game. Filled with unique drills designed to bring out the "inner athlete" in us all, Showmaker has created a classic exploration of the real reasons we should all be enjoying the game of golf.
Truly a mind-opening read - great for golfers and instructors alike
Excellent Reading.......2007-05-14
Extraordinary Golf: The Art of Possible is a book that anyone who plays the game of golf should read. I wish I could have read it or something near it twenty five years ago.
Not read yet........2007-03-08
Book was for my husband and was not read yet, but he loved that I got it for him...
Great book.......2007-01-10
This book won't be to everyone's taste. If you are looking for quick tips on improving your game, look elsewhere. If, however, you are looking for the secret to genuinely enjoying the golf game you have, and improving your attitude on the course, it's a wonderful book. I've heard golf called a good walk spoiled, but this book points to how it can be fresh and enjoyable again.
Book Description
In the mood for a Summer Hummer?
How about a French Flirt or a Neon Nexus?
or Maybe even a Sin City Slider?
This book includes these and 150 more cool cocktails for a crowd—everything from classics like Sangría, Martinis, and Manhattans, to newer favorites like Kamikazes and Mudslides, to international raves such as Brazil’s Caipirinha and Cuba’s Mojito, not to mention liquor-free variations. Plus, there’s information on mixing techniques, ingredients, equipment, and glassware, hangover helpers, tips on party food for non-cooks, and a user-friendly index that lists recipes by ingredients.
Serving pitcher drinks is an ingeniously effortless way to entertain and still have fun at your own party. It’s an idea whose time has come—in fact, it’s long overdue. No doubt about it, a premixed pitcher of drinks is a huge asset to any gathering. Making individual cocktails not only takes time, but removes you from the action. So mix up a batch of pitcher drinks and join in the party. They’re stylish, fun, and easy, and they definitely take the angst out of entertaining!

Oh Yeah.............2007-05-21
The perfect remedy for a hot, humid day, when all you can hear is the corn growing. Full of great information and tons of recipes, it truly is the "Ultimate".
When You Want to "Consume Mass Quantities".......2006-09-04
By Bill Marsano. "Pitcher Drinks: Cool Cocktails for a Crowd," by Sharon Tyler Herbst makes it clear that, frankly, there are few ways to have more fun than to slip into Margaritas-for-the-Mob Mode, which can mean mixing drinks in stock pots, buckets and if necessary washtubs (stirring with paddles is optional, but plenty of ice is mandatory). Herbst, an award-winning author of numerous books in the hospitality realm, is smart and reliable (the TV quiz "Jeopardy" uses her books as reference works). There are plenty of recipes, a good glossary of drink and bar terms, useful measuring equivalents, hangover cures for emergency use (she recommends not overdoing to begin with, which is always smart advice, so be sure to read her chapter on How to Light Up the Party Without Getting Lit), hints on what she blithely calls Garnishes and Fandangos, and more. In short, this book is all you'll need to get well started on the road to quality fun for quantities of friends. --Bill Marsano is a James Beard Award-winning writer on wines and spirits.
Awesome drink ideas for many occasions.......2006-01-26
I have tried the mojito, soo refreshing! The rum rush punch and hurricane are tropical and I went through three batchs in one hour at a football party!! I'm going to try so many more. Good book for people who like to mkae big batchs of drinks for friends!!
This book seriously rocks!.......2005-07-21
Maybe "Dracula Fan" needed some more blood in his bloody mary-something to nourish his rather small brain. Okay, I'm sorry to get personal, but his (or her) review just doesn't track.
This book seriously rocks! I've made most of the drinks in it over the past year . . . they're not only super EASY, but FUN and DELICIOUS! And as for the "no pictures" remark, well most of us haven't needed pictures to understand things since grade school-the recipes here are crystal clear. Besides, smart people know that photos pump up the price, and this book has 150 recipes for a very reasonable $10.36 (Amazon price). Yes, this book is small (5 x 7 inches), but it's packed not only with great recipes, but with loads of other information-from definitions of liqueurs and liquors, to measurement equivalents, to garnish ideas, and so on.
Too bad a dead-head review can knock down the rating of such a good book. I'm giving it 5 stars and it deserves it!
What's with Dracula Fan????.......2005-07-16
I don't know where "Dracula Fan" was coming from with his/her 1-star review. Maybe the reviewer wanted to knock down the rating of this excellent book for some reason. Or maybe he or she is someone who has trouble following clear, concise recipes--after all, the reviewer can't even spell "recipes." I love this book--it's fun, stylish, and not at all hard to read. No, it doesn't have pictures, but it doesn't need them. The recipes are easy, VERY clear and every one makes perfect sense. More to the point, the drinks TASTE good and every single one we've made have been a huge hit with friends and family.

This is a wonderful collector's book and an excellent companion to Thorburn's Complete Illustrated Book of Birds. A great book for artists, bird lovers, and others who appreciate quality work.

Book Description
Millions of children in the United States have gay or lesbian parents, and the number of same-sex parents is increasing at an ever-expanding rate. But although many attitudes are changing, gay and lesbian parents and their children need protection and support as the heated cultural battle over same-sex unions continues to escalate. Families of Value offers a poignant defense of families with same-sex parents, and it does so primarily through the powerful use of real-life examples. Robert Bernstein, author of the acclaimed Straight Parents, Gay Children, presents intimate portraits of pioneer families with gay and lesbian parents who are leading the charge in the struggle to bring about social change. Their unique stories, in turn hard-hitting and affecting, portray the resistance these brave parents have faced, their views of the current cultural climate and, most importantly, the intense passion and dedication that they have devoted to raising sound, healthy, and well-adjusted children.
Customer Reviews:
A Powerful Argument for Same-Sex Parenting.......2005-06-07
Robert Bernstein knows how to make a point: let the subjects speak for themselves! This well prepared, eminently readable book tackles the currently high profile topic of not only same-sex marriages but more poignantly same-sex parenting. In an introduction Bernstein presents a brief history of his topic and a précis that informs us that the families discussed in the book are not randomly chosen: the families here represented are "leaders in bringing about the social change that is gradually easing the way to their acceptance." And so we are fairly informed that the contents of this valuable document will be skewed toward the hard work of some prime examples of same-sex parents and their respective children with the hope that reading these varying experiences will foster understanding and appreciation for the valiant work of the subjects chosen.
Not that Bernstein is out to preach: quite the contrary, by translating in to eloquent language the trials and tribulations of six families of varying backgrounds and living situations he lets the histories make their own powerful points. The families represented demonstrate the fact that children raised by same-sex parents do not 'adopt' same-sex life styles because of their parents. The children here described reveal the peer punishment and rejection in the schoolyard, and yet in most cases once the children are open about their parents' life style instead of hiding for fear their peers will discover it, the children fit comfortably into the system.
Bernstein makes many tender and important observations: same-sex parents (especially gay men) tend to make better parents because they desperately WANT to be parents in a society where they must struggle for the privilege as opposed to many straight families whose children my be 'biologic accidents in timing' and/or viewed as contributing to the financial and stability problems faced by those who marry too young.
In addition to providing evidence that children of same-sex parents are sound, healthy and well-adjusted and that same-sex parents (at least those here represented) are passionately devoted and dedicated to the enviable privilege of parenting, Bernstein follows his book with Appendices that are informative, enlightening, and offer answers to frequently asked questions about same-sex unions and other sociologic avenues of interest that provide sound structure to his basic précis. This is an excellent book for the general public, especially at this point of time in our history, and it is also a reassuring work for the many men and women who are currently struggling with the public concept of their plight. Highly recommended reading. Grady Harp, June 05
