I have been a fan of the writing of Elisabeth Kubler-Ross since college. She has a writing style which is tender, kind and honest. As with all of her other books you will find answers to your questions and feel comforted by her words.
A straightforward and compassionate follow-up to On Death and Dying........2005-08-16
Questions & Answers on Death and Dying is an extremely helpful resource to those who are bereaved or are on the cusp of being so. It is also a good introductory book, as was its predecessor-On Death and Dying-to the area of counseling psychology, specifically thanatology, the study of death and dying, for there are many issues in the dying process that are addressed: nonverbal symbolic language, prolongation of life, sudden death, suicide and terminal illness, fear, faith and hope to old age and just plain coping. Encompassed in the very latter, coping-wise, is not simply the patient and family but also the medical staff. The dynamics of dying have a process and to witness a loved one going through that process is obviously painful; it is the agonizing but inevitable hurt that no one wants to go through. But it can and will make the living stronger. This work in particular is helpful in many respects, because it is not necessarily a "how-to" guide on how to grieve or cope; it simply tries to answer the most fundamental and frequently asked questions that people have in respects to death and dying, i.e. emotional and physical pain, loneliness, anger against God and healthy people and finding some caliber of meaningfulness in their life while simultaneously being in the throes of the dying process. The questions asked are sincere, moving and eloquent. The dam of curiosity is opened, and Elizabeth Kubler-Ross eloquently answers all questions, even ones we would not even think of asking. Her insightful and kindhearted responses go to the core of what we're all essentially curious about; she herself admits that in doing this work, it has created a religious belief system that she believed was nonexistent, as one question illustrates: "In all your research on death, what is your personal belief of what happens after death?" "Before I started working with dying patients, I did not believe in a life after death. I now do believe in a life after death, beyond a shadow of a doubt." What is so nice about this book is that it is a gap filler to the first book. What Elizabeth Kubler-Ross started with in On Death and Dying, the general public-the living and the dying (by their questions)-completed with Questions & Answers on Death and Dying; it went full circle, and it reads as such. This is a valuable work to have. Many, many topics are addressed, and there is no compassionate condescension or nihilistic overtones, just truth, information and loving understanding.
Good Information But..........2002-08-16
This book has some really good information in it, but there is such a thing as "too much of a good thing" I found it almost boring with the redundant questions and answers. This book could have been half the pages and still good. Good read, but very repetitive.
Book should be on the bookshelf of every family.......2000-06-28
This sensitive, essential information is required for all patients and families. The factual presentation of information will allow intelligent decisions to be made and thoughtful discussions with health care providers.

too broad ranging, tries too hard to make its points.......2003-10-15
Still on a quest to find good books for my newly bereaved children, I stumbled upon this 1990 well-meaning treastise that unfortunately feels like it's been written by a committee, with way too many topics trying to cover every possible death-related question from "What is it like to die" to "How can you prepare yourself to die" and everything in between including euthanasia, organ donation and the (alleged) Five Stages of Grief. Some of it is almost inadvertantly funny: "Some people live wonderful short lives while others live long, miserable lives." Yikes, what category does a 12-year guess she's in? Aside from its way-too-broad contents, there's the off-putting moral purpose of the book as described at the end: "Learning what you can about death might motivate you to live a happier, more productive life." Well, maybe. Or at least be more selective in my reading.

Good recipes; but be careful about a TVP allergy.......2002-05-31
When I tried following a vegan diet in the summer of 2000 I made extensive use of TVP (texturized vegetable protein). I found TVP to be ideal for making imitation meat products, and this cookbook was an excellent resource for finding ways to use TVP. And some of the TVP foods I found to be better tasting than their meat counter-parts!
Probably the best tasting recipe I made from this book was the "Herbed Loaf." Also excellent was the recipe for "Sloppy Joes." And I made up a large bath of the "Veggie Burgers" and froze most of them for quick sandwiches later.
However, after a few months I found that I wasn't "thriving" on the vegan diet. And one reason I didn't was I would later learn that I was allergic to TVP! Since I was eating TVP almost every day, this had significant health implications.
But it should be noted that I am not allergic to soy in general. And I have since found out that many people have a problem with TVP who don't have a problem with soy otherwise. So there is "something" about the processing method that turns soybeans into soy flour and then into TVP that makes it even more of a potential allergen.
As a result of this problem, I eventually stopped the vegan diet and went back to eating a still a mostly plant-based diet, but with some animal foods. Maybe if I hadn't been eating all of the TVP I would not have had problems with the vegan diet as I do believe that a vegan diet can be healthy. I even have a chapter on "The Benefits of a Vegan Diet" in my book "Creationist Diet."
But all of that said, if you don't have a problem with TVP, then this cookbook would be of great benefit. But I would be careful about eating too much TVP until you're sure it's not a problem for you.
FABULOUS!!.......2000-12-01
This book is really a wonderful beginners cookbook for TVP. I've made many of the recipes in it and they all turn out great. My husband, a dedicated meat eater, LOVES the TVP Sloppy Joeys! He loves sloppy joes with meat, but he likes these even better. There isn't much vegetarian food that anyone will enjoy, whether vegetatarian or not. I can't imagine being a vegetarian without TVP. If you like TVP, you need this book.

Misled Title - easy read.......2007-10-11
I was disappointed with actual "meat" on the title subject. Less than half the book talked about what's on the title. This book is full of "fillers" taking up space (100 pages, double-spaced, lots of useless pictures and wasted pages). He doesn't take a neutral stand and let you come up with your own opinions based on the information given. Instead he instructs exactly how he thinks you should go about each step (or problem, as he seems to view them as). I questioned his credentials as he is very biased on many aspects, but doesn't back up his views with physiological reasoning.
Book not in keeping with our parenting philosophy.......2007-09-17
I did not like this book because I felt like it was overly semantic and did not work with our attachment parenting and communication philosophy. Brenner may have some good ideas in concept, but he takes them too far...dicatating how you should phrase every bit of conversation with your child so that you avoid making them feel like a child but treat them with "respect." We are all for respect, but we are also for having a warm, casual communication style at home. For example, Bremmer recommends avoiding all pet names because they belittle the child and suggests you only call your child by their real name to show them respect. In our family, we are a very loving, snuggly family and calling each other pet names adds to our closeness and does not make anyone feel belittled. In addition to a long list of semantic recommendations which encourage parents to avoid speaking naturally to their children, Bremmber also rails on working moms: "We are now experiencing the first generation of women giving birth and raising families who did not have a full time mother at home...whle it is true that these mothers appear to be feeling better about themselves, their children are feeling worse." I personally find this commentary on working mothers to be offensive. This makes me suspicious of all of Mr. Bremmer's advice and makes me question his credentials to make such blanket statements.
Love the book - IT WORKS!.......2006-03-03
I bought this book specifically for the chapter on pacifiers b/c my daughter was ADDICTED to her pacifiers! We tried the "THree Day Method" and IT WORKED! I even sent an email to Dr. Brenner thanking him for this wonderful solution and he replied immediately with kind words and some encouragement. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Now I have to read the rest of the book! LOL!

WOW! I now realize that losing my own rabbits' foot or favorite t-shirt would cause me a similar
kind of stress, to the kind my 7 year old son might feel if he lost his favorite talking Woody action figure. This book made me think more about his relationships with his stuff. I guess we're all attached to different things.
