Burton's travels through war torn Paraguay in 1864, during the war between Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Something of a war correspondent, Burton showed familiarity with the war scene, and the introductory essay is a penetrating analysis. Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890) dropped out of Oxford to join the Indian army and travel the world. Later, serving as a consul for the British government, Burton was the first European adventurer to search for the source of the Nile; to enter, disguised, the forbidden cities of Mecca and Medina; and to travel through remote stretches of India, the Near East, and Africa. From his spying exploits to his startling literary accomplishments (the discovery and translation of the Kama Sutra and his seventeen-volume translation of Arabian Nights), and was said to be fluent in over twenty languages.

Missing something important.......2002-09-29

This book has calories, fat, carbs, chol, and sodium but NOT protein. If that is not important to you, it is a good guide.

Listings to many chains plus take out entrees........2001-08-31

This is a nice informative book. Only trouble is how the listings are arranged and the fact that some of the foods available at the chain restaurants were omitted. An index, would have helped out tremendously. All in all though, the listings for the foods are fairly extensive. I guess the book would have been enormous as well as quite costly if every food available at the chain restaurants was included. I was able to find the approximate caloric content of many Chinese foods plus alchohol beverages. It was a pleasant surprise to be able to have info such as this, in the book. :-)

Less than promised by the title.......2001-06-04

This book purports to be a useful calorie counter for restaurant and takeout eating, but more than half the book contains calorie counts for snack foods where 1)the nutrition label on the package contains the same information or 2) the information is readily available from USDA charts on the internet.

It appears that the restaurant information, even for those restaurants included, is incomplete. For instance, the section on Friendly's includes only a few ice cream and dessert information and nothing about the meals. Only information readily available (information about McDonald's meals, for example) is included. The sample contains only random selection of fast food restaurants. There are no guesstimates about typical dishes in non-fast food restaurants. Admitedly the accuracy of these guesses would be ball park figures, but it could serve as a guideline.

This may be a small book, but it has great variety. All the sauces we've tried have turned out well.

While there is not much information about this book at this site,the author kindly provided a list of 76 recipes!I received the six books I ordered today. It is difficult to list all the recipes, but they range from Basic Barbeque Sauce to Que Queen Royal Jelly. The book is not flashy but has all the information to make great sauces. This is a great book for the price. I am going to purchase one for myself!

With the proper training and care, your wild horse will become the most trustworthy equine companion that you will ever have the opportunity to own. They can compete in many events and are just as successful as the domestic horse in competitions like, endurance trail, dressage, driving, western pleasure, english pleasure, cutting, team penning, reining, roping, barrels, poles and many other equine events.

Lots of neat ideas.......2007-03-25

First off, I should note that I am not a preschool teacher, just a mom! I bought this book hoping it would have lots of pages, ideas, etc to print off so I could "school" my 3/4 year old. It does have lots of ideas, but they are all in written format and they require a significant amount of supplies. If that is what you are looking for, this book is great. If you were wanting worksheets, try another book.

Charles Bartlett, "A printmaker in Paradise" is a must have for any serious scholar or collector in Japanese printmaking. Bartlett was a fantastic artist, that has only been discovered by the educated collectors of fine japanese printmaking. His works often reflect his views on his travels to Holland, India, Japan, Hawaii and other locations in southeast asia. This book is a great resource for his woodblock prints, etchings, and paintings. Bartlett is a true inspiration to Western artists inspired by the woodblock printmaking tradition.
