"A great first Kabbalah book".......2007-09-28
This was the first Kabbalah book that I read, definetely the right one, the subject being so new to me, since I am not Jewish, but Michael Berg writes so beautifully and it such simple words that I understood easily and so did my soul. It gave me a very good intro to Kabbalah, has beautiful stories about the Baalshemtov (a Tzadik, mystic, sage), it has the beautiful story about the white Angels, the black Angels and the grey Angels, after this story, I see dificulties in my life from a totally diferent perspective. This book talks about redemption, and God's mercy, and many more subjects that can only enrich your life!!! After this book I continue to read The Essential Zohar, the 72 names of God, which I meditate on frequently, and so on, the journey continues!!!

This is a very interesting book. I fully recommend it to anyone looking for spiritual answers. You may not agree with everything -- and that's OK. But take whatever you get from this book and simply make it yours. You don't have to become a follower of Kabbalah to put some of the ideas into practice. Try it. You may like it.

"The Way" -- with a title like that you'd think you were purchasing your very own spiritual epiphany. In less than one hundred pages if I remember correctly.
I actually picked this up when I was walking through the mall. I'd already been sort of curious about the subject, I've been studying Wicca and Buddhism for years and I'm always open to new ideas.
So as you might be able to imagine, I with my new found interest, curled up in a chair and began reading about "The Way". Oooh.
A mere 30 minutes later it was done. Nothing had been said in that thing that a teenager can't sit and think about on their own. For being a ten dollar book, this thing can seriously just as well serve as an intro to a much more thorough book. But then again that wouldn't make as much money. Had this been written out of passion it wouldn't have been so vague and brief.
Don't waste your time on this, or on anything written by the Bergs.
Kabbalah has a lot of great ideas and I still haven't given up hope, I'm still reading and looking for good writing. Someone give me something thought provoking and detail oriented.
USE THE WISDOM OF THE WAY.......2005-12-29
Michael Berg wrote a wonderful introduction to Kabbalah. Anyone, from the beginner to the advanced will find this book useful.
Michael Berg introduces the reader to Kabbalah, and quickly teaches-not preaches-the beautiful path that is Kabbalah.
This is something that shouldn't be missed!
I urge you to read this book.

An absolutely delightful book! If you are looking for something MORE than just bean recipes, if beans stir within you curiosity and adventure, you've come to the right place!
The author devotes the first third of the book giving a history lesson, a botany lesson, an anthropology lesson, and even throws in some gorgeous photography. Of BEANS!
And there are some mouth-watering recipes, too. I'm so glad I bought this book!

The most detailed book on beans I have seen, from history, to growing, to cooking. Lovely detail in the book, the photos are magnificent, and the recipes are excellent too.
Would like to have seen the temperatures used, in Celcius as well as Fareheit.

This is a great book of ideas! The pictures are great and really helped me think of ways to do my own baskets. There is a wonderful section about starting your own business that I found helpful as well. The pictures were great and very creative and professional looking. This book was just what I needed!

If you are interested in constructing beautiful gift baskets with attention to both form and function, then clearly, this book is a must have. The author's approach to gift selection is both practical and savvy. She encourages the reader to personalize every basket by keeping in mind the recipients likes, dislikes and lifestyle. Her baskets are classy, unique and smart.
If you're interested in the business end of the gift basket industry (and who wouldn't be after viewing her storefront - at the back of the book), she offers great tips and advice on getting started. More importantly, she offers a short quiz for readers who might be "on the fence" about self-employment" and she candidly explains that it is not a choice for everyone.
All in all, I would have to rate this, by far, my favorite book in this genre. I own 7 books related to gift baksets. This is the one that had me drooling from the first flip of the pages. I'm not sure the author ever sleeps (read her bio). Her style is impeccable, right down to her tags and letterhead.

I love this book! Lots of photos to show how to put baskets together along with the suggestions of what to put in it. I have been inspired by many of the ideas it offers and have used it already in gift giving. With the holidays approaching I know I'll use it many times.

When I first saw this book, I was skeptical. I've put together a few gift baskets, I thought to myself. But when I looked through the photos and read through the Basket Basics, I was hooked. The basket ideas are clever and charming. Most of her 'baskets' are not baskets at all: boxes, canisters, laundry baskets, buckets, a bread box and more! In fact, the projects are not traditional directions. This book is a collection of ideas and tips organized by occasion and recipient, punctuated with great photos. Each photo has a paragraph for a caption, explaining the gift basket shown and extra tips.
Let's go back to the beginning. The basics section starts with planning, brainstorming, and a list of basket theme ideas to get you started. Then onto the action: choosing a container and filling it. Several methods for creating the full, professional look are illustrated. The finished basket is covered in netting, cellophane or shrink wrap. Several pages show different embellishments, bows, and tags to complete your gorgeous gift basket.

This is a great book for married couples as well as engaged couples. This book has taught me to be more patient when it comes to marriage but it has also taught me to submissive to my GOD and to my husband, this was not so easy for me at first but now this has become easier for me, with a better life.

With these words to Boswell, Samuel Johnson dismissed Lady Di Beauclerk, the wife of one of his closest friends, a woman of the highest rank, the daughter of a duke, who had forsaken her reputation, her place in society, her children, and her role as lady-in-waiting to the Queen for love.
Born Lady Diana Spencer in 1735, the eldest child of the third Duke of Marlborough, she was expected rigidly to follow a traditional path through life: educated in the fashion considered suitable for a girl, and married to a man of the appropriate rank for a duke's daughter. But finding herself in a desperately unhappy marriage to Viscount Bolingbroke, Lady Di overturned convention. She left her husband, maintained a secret relationship with her lover, Topham Beauclerk, hid the birth of an illegitimate child, and eventually helped to support herself by painting.
Lady Di Beauclerk was a highly gifted artist who was able to use her scandalous reputation as an adulteress, aristocratic woman to further her career as a painter and designer. She painted portraits, illustrated plays and books, provided designs for Wedgwood's innovative pottery, and decorated rooms with murals. Championed by her close friend Horace Walpole, whose letters illuminate all aspects of her life, she was able to establish herself as an admired artist at a time when women struggled to forge careers.

Not quite a biography..........2004-01-28
This interesting but uneven book is purportedly about Lady Diana Spencer, an 18th Century English aristocrat who suffered through two unhappy marriages (the first ended through the scandal of divorce). She made a minor reputation for herself as an artist at a time when society ladies did not work. As a biography, the book is not a success since we learn very little about the character of Lady Di, her likes and dislikes, her goals and accomplishments. But as a portrait of British nobility, "Improper Pursuits" is often fascinating. Society was filled with venal, brainless and irresponsible young men, obsessed with gambling and exemplified by Lady Di's first husband, Lord Bolingbroke, nicknamed "Bully" on the one hand. On the other hand are the creative and intellectual giants, including Dr. Johnson and the ever-present James Boswell, Garrick and Sheridan, who were friends with Lady Di's second husband, Topham Beauclerk. The highly eccentric Horace Walpole flutters through the book, charming and likeable and maddening in equal parts.
As the author describes this society, it was clearly male-dominated and little space was left where women could flourish equally. Carola Hicks makes a mighty effort to bring women into the story, describing the household and social skills they were required to learn (and nothing further) but they are so overshadowed by the men that there is a feeling of desperation as the author tries to flesh out the story and throws in everything but the kitchen sink. For example: where did upper class ladies buy their paintbrushes in London? Nonetheless, many of the characters she describes are fascinating and a particular London in the time of George II and George III is nicely delineated. Lady Di remains as two-dimensional as her own drawings of cherubs, though. After reading "Improper Pursuits,"the reader realizes that the subject of the book will be more remembered for her friends than for herself.
