I read the book and enjoyed it very much. This is a story about an extraordinary LADY. I had heard of and had seen Sandy on Talk shows but I did not know anything about her. John Kleiman did an outstanding job in writing this book. I now feel I know more about Sandy, thanks to this wonderful book, and I am very glad I read the book. I salute John Kleiman for doing one fantastic job writing the book. Well done.

Honest, Heartfelt, and EASY to understand!.......2007-07-30
36, married, and 3 young girls....and a breast cancer diagnosis June 2007. We were fortunate to have close friends who are related to Dr. Kaelin. She is smart, easy to talk to, informative, unpretentious (sp?), and oh, so compassionate. I am 12 days postop today (7/30/07) and still use her book as a reference. I had the honor of meeting her as well-funny who your hero's become after surviving a bilateral mastectomy and she is absolutely amazing to speak with! Most important, SHE LISTENS. To all cancer survivors....be well, be strong!

I must be the only woman in America who didn't like this book -- I found it superficial and was disappointed that it didn't focus much on her own experiences. Plus there were some inconsistancies in her writing - the first time she mentions an incident, it was raining, later in the book, she recalls it being sunny -- minor, but it is sloppy editing. I read this around the time of my sent. node/lumpectomy/mastectomy surgeries in the fall of 2006. Went on to have chemo and rads, and I've read some 30 books on BC in an effort to be a well-informed patient. For my money, I'll take Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book:4th Edition 2005 for info, and for personal experience, I liked Katherine Russell Rich's The Red Devil: To Hell with Cancer--And Back and Lila Petosi's Dancing With Fear: Tips and Wisdom from Breast Cancer Survivors

Saved me from chemotherapy induced insomnia!!.......2006-08-14
This book saved me when I has having chemotherapy and ended up with constant insomnia. I had not read about that as a side effect of breast cancer treatments until this book which has a good discussion of drugs usually used to treat breast cancer. I had read LOTS of books prior to my treatment and only this one mentioned drugs used to treat insomnia. If hadn't of known, I probably would still be staring at the ceiling ALL NIGHT wondering what the heck was going on!!!
A great and compassionate guide through a tough experience.......2006-05-09
I am a primary care physician and read this book with an eye toward recommending it to my patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer. I found the book to be thorough, compassionate and very clearly written. It's an unusual book. As other reviewers have commented, breast cancer guides are either from MD breast cancer "experts" OR from patients. This is the only book I am aware of written by someone who has lived both sides of this disease. I will recommend this book strongly to my patients with breast cancer, and also to their family members and friends. Thanks to Dr. Kaelin and Ms. Coltrera for providing us with such a terrific resource.

Oregon bistro owner and cooking show host Caprial Pence defines bistro food as "elegant, eclectic food...that is simple to prepare."
Organized by course, with two chapters of desserts (one "Seasonal Fruit") and another of "Morning Foods," each recipe includes a practical introduction with tips on ingredients, techniques and accompaniments. Grilled Flank Steak with Hot Pepper Paste "reminds" readers that flank steak gets tougher the longer you cook it; the maple marinade for Grilled Lamb Chops can be used for chicken breasts and tuna fillets. Then there's Oven-Baked Seafood Stew which uses black and green olives with wine, fish, mussels and shrimp and nothing could be quicker than Penne with Smoked Salmon and Sour Cream-Chive Sauce.
Braised Chicken with Herbs and Shallots on a bed of Hazelnut Mashed Potatoes is wonderful comfort food. Warm Spinach Salad with Asian Black Bean Dressing is simple and striking and the dressing can be used on asparagus or chicken. For dessert - Poached Ginger Cheesecake or Walnut Stuffed Apples.
Also striking are the luscious color pictures. Since they're not always presented opposite the recipe, they'll have you turning pages, which is pure pleasure. Every page is inspiration and, while some dishes require advance planning or shopping, they all will tempt you into the kitchen.

When we ordered this book, we had great expectations as we were avid watchers of her show. We were not disappointed. This book was one of the best cookbooks I have used. Our monthly dinner parties shine as a result of the ideas and inspirations I have received as a result from reading this book. My husband has never regretted buying me this book. And our circle of friends always look to us for recipes and guidance. I like the idea of using seasonal motifs. We live in the southwest and hope she focuses on our regional cuisine in the future. I love her show and her recipes always look amazing. I couldn't wait to receive the book, and then the first three recipes I made (with expensive ingredients) all flopped! I'm a bit apprehensive about using it again. I have, however, used it for ideas, and I greatly enjoyed reading it.

I am the proud owner of this book which depicts in colour pretty much every fresh water fish in Europe including fishes that move inland from the sea and several alien species such as introduced fish from Asia and North America.
Not only is every fish painted in colour but the detail on each plate is amazing - clear bright colours and the best features of each fish brought out.
All this in one small volume full of reference information and facts summarising each fish at a glance.
Ideal for anyone interested in fish, fish illustration and as a standard that other ichthiological works can follow. I only wish this quality of work was available for Amazonian fish or Asian fish.

Guide for Safe and Stable Glazes .......2007-09-19
I can't recommend this book enough for the potter looking to better understand glazes and the firing process for cone 6 oxidation ware. It's detailed but unpretentious and will be accessible to the non-chemist potter for which it's written.
Hesselberth and Roy have obviously spent a great deal of time and money learning what makes a glaze stable and safe for functional use. This is not a recipe book, though the recipes included are outstanding; rather the authors wish to better inform and equip the potter in 1) better matching his clay bodies with his glazes, 2) ensuring minimal leaching of toxic materials from his glazes, 3) learning to rely on stable and reliable materials in glaze formulation (so long Gerstley Borate), and 4) teaching the potter ways to test whether a particular glaze is safe and stable.
The authors will be the first to say that what's provided here is not exhaustive but this book goes further than any other glaze book I know of in promoting the use of stable and safe glazes that fit well and look good. If you're like me, the price might discourage you. It's an investment well worth making though, and I haven't regretted it. I've now worked in two studios that have based their entire glaze palate on the recipes and principles provided in this book, and the results are reliable and beautiful.
I really think this is going to set the standard for glaze books and cone 6 glazing for a long time to come.

Being a novice potter in search of answers regarding cone 6 glazes, this book was my 5th glaze book to purchase. I only wish that I had bought it first and I would only own one! I found this book straight forward with great information regarding not only glaze mixing but successful firing. I would recommend it to anyone trying to get started mixing their own glazes. I had tried many glaze recipes from other books and the web, only to be disappointed with the outcome. The recipes in the back of this book work wonderfully. I am thrilled!!

Very useful reference. Assuming you know other aspects of ceramics, this book seems to contain all the info you need to succeed with cone 6 glazes. It's not only for cone 6 though, because much of the info will apply to other glazes as well. Includes a solid explanation of glaze theory, balanced by a wealth of very detailed and practical considerations for getting the best possible results in the real world.

This book lives up to its title. If you want a book that covers Cone 6 Oxidation Glazes in an understandable manner, I highly recommend this book.
In addition to the technical information the authors actually supply (in Chapter 6) some beautiful glaze recipes that meet their standards for functional use.

I own the 5th edition. I glanced through a few pages (after having spent hours on the Internet researching tropical plants for my personal tropical garden) and had to buy it right then and there! I did not want to chance not being able to find it again. It's the best! I can't foresee ever having to wonder what any other tropical plant looks like! I've found plants in this book that I could not identify on the web or through local nurseries. I was not able to put this book down for hours after it's purchase and continue to use it almost daily. Totally worth the $185 price! If I'd lost it on the way home from having just purchased it, I'd be right back trying to buy another!

Recommend for anyone with a child with sensory integration dysfunction.......2007-03-24
I had a child diagnosed with sensory integration dysfunction at age 8. If anyone has an older child who has a hard time with life, this is a great book. It is written from the perspective of a 12 year old. It's written by a peer. I read this to my 12 year old (yes he can read himself). I felt it more effective to read it to him. It made him feel good that he is not the only one have problems with the things he struggles with. There were good motivationals in it. Very friendly reading, and helpful tips at the end.

Best Out There.......2000-07-11
I had to give this book five stars because it is the only comprehensive work devoted to Arthur Hughes. I have been attracted to Hughes' paintings for some time, but he has recently become a part of my graduate research. To my surprise, there is little research out there. Even though he did not achieve the critical acclaim of other Pre-Raphaelite artists, he is considered a major artist in the Movement. Granted this book is mainly in catalogue form, but this section contains hard-to-find information. It's also great for listing past exhibitions of individual paintings and newspaper/journal/book leads for more information. Lots of black/white reproductions and some nice colors ones. The analytical introduction is shorter than I would have liked, but the comprehensive catalogue is a great asset.
At last a book devoted to Hughes........1998-10-26
As a serious student of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and their associates, I have noticed a curious lack of materials regarding Arthur Hughes and his work. This is perhaps due to the unfortunate destruction (evidently) of much of the papers and materials that would give better light to his biography, as well as his partial detraction from oil painting to produce much illustration work. No less important, in truth, is likely the fact that he was not one of the most successful of Victorian age painters. However, the charm of coloring and subjects in his unique style certainly warrants a serious treatment and _Arthur Hughes: His Life and Works_ is an admirable and well-produced effort. Not only that, but it is the only one that I have yet to discover. With this fact in mind, I can only give it the highest of recommendations to anyone fortunate enough to have a similar taste for his work. The reproductions are excellent, the biography informative, and the content far more complete than the fragmented references to him to be found elsewhere.
