The biography of a truly vibrant women.......2005-02-05
Goodbye God, We're Going to Texas: A Search for Health and Happiness is the biography of a truly vibrant women, whose life spanned a successful career, dedication to her Christian religion, survival in the lean years of the Great Depression, activism in her community, and more. Though she never married, family was quintessential to her, as were neighbors and friends. Alzheimer's disease marked the final chapter of life, but that far from defines the whole of her contribution. Her biography is unique in that each chapter also makes note of a different health care issue, from the specter of tuberculosis that loomed over her early years to her work in physical therapy. Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Best basic Reiki book out there.......2007-01-05
Whether your new to Reiki or are a Master looking for a book to give to a student, this is the one. With beautiful color photos and art throughout the book, Tanmaya Honervogt tells a detailed story of Reiki's background, her own experiences and instructions -- including Chakras. I highly recommend this book.
Good maybe for clients but not for practicioners.......2006-03-16
I was pretty dissappointed with this book. I does have beautiful layout and pictures but there is no real insight in the book. I would recomend this book for people who are thinking about getting attuned or are curious about what a reiki treatment is
The perfect introduction to Reiki and great for all attuned levels as well!.......2005-07-03
Tanmaya Honervogt's book is just perfect. She invites the reader into the heart of Reiki by sharing: 1) Her path with Reiki 2) The Meaning of Reiki 3) The History of Reiki 4) The Reiki Degrees 5) The Reiki Treatments 6) Reiki in Daily Life 7) On Healing & Illness and 8) Reiki Reports [experiences.]
There is so much color used throughout, some of the pages are in color as well as beautiful photography of nature scenes including: a tiered waterfall, a forest of trees covered in snow, the ocean at dusk, golden tree leaves in the bliss of autumn, wispy clouds with a touch of sunset pink, a powerful wave of the ocean rising high and curving over shooting out white bubbles of delight and various flower photos of different colors and types and many more exceptional photographs. There are even some abstract photographs that are equally as breathtaking in their own right. Also included are many helpful photos of real people giving and receiving Reiki (ray-key) and excellent coverage of what each position works on physically and mentally which is lacking in most books. I find this particularly interesting as I am about to enter nursing school to fulfill my calling of over 10 years of God "tapping me on the shoulder" to become a nurse!
A favorite part includes "Harmonizing Chakras" and "Grounding" of which the latter I have never read about in another Reiki book to date and the former best covered of all I've read so far. Other useful, helpful topics I enjoyed include: "Reiki Emotional Problems," "Uses for Reiki," and "The Reiki Healing Box." There are many inspiring and exciting quotes throughout of givers and receivers of Reiki, including some testimonials in the last chapter. The entire book is a glory and blessing to the reader. It will make you smile.
I particularly enjoyed this version of the history of Reiki and that Dr. Usui was a Christian who was asked by his students if he believed in the miracles of Christ and whether he was able to demonstrate such a healing. This question spoke to his heart and set him off on a quest to study the healing methods of Christ. While in a Buddhist monastery he embarked on a 21-day meditation and fast on a holy mountain near Kyoto. And it tells his experience and his journey with Reiki. [I love the fact that Dr. Usui was a Christian because I am too and have prayed for permission from God to do Reiki and have been answered with a yes. Since it is my personal belief being a Christian that the Universal Life Force aka Reiki IS the Holy Spirit, why wouldn't God allow me to use it to touch/help/speed healing of others? This is why I am wanting to be a nurse in the first place as well as to serve Him and to show others His love and healing through prayer and Reiki!]
Included are the Reiki Principles:
"Just for today, be free and happy.
Just for today, have joy.
Live consciously in the moment.
Count your blessings with gratitude.
Honour your parents, teachers and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Show gratitude to all living things."
"The word meditation and the word medicine both come from the same root. Medicine means that which heals the physical, and meditation means that which heals the spiritual. Both are healing powers." ~Osho
I encourage you to get attuned either locally or more affordably and I believe equally powerful or more so, through the dvds sold here at amazon by Reiki Master, Steve Murray. Shanti. This book was one of the motivating factors for me to get attuned though it can be read before or after attunement.
"Once you have found yourself, you have found your home. You have found your love, you have found you inexhaustible ecstasy, you have found that the whole of existence is ready for you to dance, to rejoice, and to sing--to live intensively and to die blissfully. These things happen of their own accord." ~Osho.

Beautiful Reiki Book.......2004-12-05
This book is beautiful and well written. I have been practicing Reiki for 16 years and teaching for 13 and I find this book to be a must for the library of any Reiki practitioner or master. I love the author's style of writing, gentle, clear and very easy for even the beginner to understand.
The Best Ever.......2003-02-13
This is the best Reiki Book ever. I am a master and use it in my training of others. It has wonderful illustrations and is written in a way that is easy to follow and understand. Very informational for a new Reiki practitioner or just someone interested in learning more about Reiki. Most books do not cover the Chakras as well as this one does.
Book Description
Follow easy suggestions for how to sprout and dehydrate a host of beans, grains and seeds and use them in conjunction with fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices to create nutritious, healing foods. Over 300 recipes are given for everything from breads, crackers, cakes and ice cream to appetizers, hearty main dishes and soups. Includes sections on setting up a living foods kitchen and why a raw foods diet will help anyone feel and look great.
Customer Reviews:
My favorite Raw Food Recipes.......2006-12-03
I love these recipes! When I first went raw, someone told me about this book and actually showed me how to make many of the cracker recipes! Even though I own almost all the Raw Food books ever published, this and Calabro's new book, Living in the Raw Gourmet are my favorites. Having glass jars filled with her wonderful crunchy crackers makes it so easy to stay raw! The carrot cake is wonderful and anyone, raw or cooked would love it! Five Stars for this book!!!!
Great Choice!.......2006-08-24
I love this book! Wonderful variety of recipes... And, the breads and muffins use grains instead of an excess of nuts found in many raw recipes. Whether eating raw part or full-time... you'll love the way you feel and look!
Good, approachable recipes.......2006-05-11
There is a veritable sea of information about eating a raw/vegan diet to be found out there. Many of the books are complicated, with difficult to make recipes, using difficult to attain ingredients. This book is a welcome change, offering easy, delicious food that isn't daunting to prepare!
I hate to leave a Bad Review.......2006-04-09
I hate to leave a bad review but I was very disappointed in this book. I tried 3 recipes spent almost $60.00 on the ingredients and it was awful. You spend all day chopping soaking blanching and dehydrating. You have to plan the meals 2 days in advance. All the meals consist of the same basic ingredients. Nuts and seeds and seasoning are the basis for almost all the recipies. All the protien and the fat in the seeds can't be healthy despite that fact they are good protiens and fats you still cant eat in excess.
There are far more recipes for desserts than main courses. There are better recipes out there if you want to eat all raw.
An "expert" ?? NOT!!!!.......2003-06-10
This book is probably not the best there is in the world of raw foods. What I like about the book is the simple, everyday language, ease of reading the recipies and the usage of very common, easy to find ingredients.
What I didn't like was:
The recipies were very redundant; I can't eat bananas so that nearly eliminates a huge portion of the dishes. Within each category she just rearranges all the same ingredients. Not real creative.
Since when hummus, stuffing, or salsa a main dish? The Pasta Mexicana contains no pasta. Why call it that? The Dessert section is 66 pages long, the Main Dish section is 35 pages. I usually eat many more main dish items that dessert. I don't intend on making that many pies and cookies.
She lived on raw foods for under 2 years then wrote a book with no other experience in cooking or nutrition. She's not real high on the list of credible advisors.

Book Description
A Modeler's reference for planking wooden ships, both kit and scratch models.
Customer Reviews:
Very bad.......2004-05-06
Very bad
Poor organized, picture very bad
Don't spend you many on this book
Excellent Resource.......2003-11-14
I own several other great books on ship modelling:
Ship Modeling Simplified by Frank Mastini,
The Built-Up Ship Model by Charles G. Davis,
Ship Modeling from Stem to Stern by Milton Roth,
and Historic Ship Models by Wolfram Zu Mondfeld, as well as other less comprehensive books.
I have studied all of these books at length and found Dressel's text to be the most informative on not only planking but also framing techniques.
While others who have reviewed this book seem to have gripes about it, I would challenge anyone to find a more detailed book on this discipline. The fact is that no one text exists that will provide all of the best tips and techniques, but this book gives the most detail that I have come across. I consider it a must-have for any model shipbuilder's library.
I would not buy this book again.......2003-06-13
Lots of [bad] pictures.
A stuffy comment about "I have never had to personally use stealers"
This guy may really be that good but the rest of us don't need to hear about it.
Final comment: I kept the book but have been thinking about throuwing it in the recycling bin. It is NOT GOOD for beginners...or much of anybody else.
Good information poorly organized.......2001-08-08
Mr. Dressel is obviously a very experienced builder, and there is a great deal of information in the book, but it the way it is presented makes it very difficult to absorb.
The organization of the material made for very frustrating reading. The planking techniques indicated in the title are scattered throughout the book in various sections, and are often separated by unrelated (but interesting) material.
Nautical component terminology (like "wing transom" and "fashion pieces") should be clarified (preferrably by illustration) before or at least at the same time they are used in the text.
The "how to" explanations would be much improved by diagrams, photos or drawings with step by step procedures, rather than the often vague descriptions provided.
Overall, the reader must expend a great deal of effort to glean the information from the book.
Maybe okay if you already know all this stuff!.......2001-06-27
NOT presented in a truly orderly and logical manner. Nice pictures of models done by members of a certain Club, but does not adequately teach planking from scratch. Many terms are NEVER defined and there is no rigorous process defined; like I said, it's okay, IF you already know most of this stuff and just want the author's take/recommendations on which of a bunch of ways to go. Will confuse a novice into tears (I know it did me, and I've built a couple of models already).
Book Description
If you love to garden but don't have much time to spend weeding, watering, and fussing over your plants, perennials are the perfect flowers for you. Most perennials self-propagate and multiply on their own, increasing in beauty and size each year. They are also less expensive and time-consuming than annuals over the long term, because you don't have to buy new plants each year. But choosing the best plants from today's selection of literally thousands of perennials is enough to stump any flower enthusiast, let alone a beginning gardener.
This booklet will introduce you to 10 beautiful perennials that are undemanding, wonderfully versatile, and adaptable to a variety of growing conditions. They're not particularly fussy about soil conditions, and they can tolerate both drought and overwatering, as long as they have adequate drainage. These wonders of the perennial world grow quickly, require little maintenance, and reward you with a kaleidoscope of color and gorgeous foliage year after year.
Customer Reviews:
"Easy-Care Perennial Gardens" -- a Good First Book.......2003-02-24
This book gives fledgling gardeners an overview of practical perennial gardening techniques. I especially liked the section about developing garden plans because it simplified what always appeared to me to be a complex process. The book could use more information about soil preparation, such as double digging, and effective plant combinations. Overall, though, "Easy-Care Perennial Gardens" provides readers with an easy-to-read primer that whets the appitite for more books on the subject.
Could be "Perennials for Dummies" but it's better.......2000-04-04
The design of gardens feature is especially helpful. Perennials can be so overwhelming- to get them right. This takes the stress out of that. Plus great info on troubles and how to treat them.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book.......2006-02-13
With Allopathic medicine (regular medicine) proving to be miraculous in some situations. At the same time in other situations its proving to be too strong, too much and causing too many side effects. Welcome in herbal medicine as kind of a similar but more sensitive way to treat many of the same problems.
Welcome in a book like this which keeps it simple. Yes simple, yet has very valuable information about herbs and drug interactions and even talks about which herbs are safer than others. A fantastic book to have on hand if you are interested in the wonderful world of herbal medicine.
Demystify the herb world.......2006-01-13
I'm so pleased to tell readers that this book was so pleasurable to read that I read it cover to cover the day it arrived. I started on an herb regiment four months ago (thanks to webmd.com), much to the dismay of my rheumatologist and cardiologist as I was already on fifteen prescription pills a day. With the help of the herbs I've been able to cut those pills in half. But I, too, was concerned about my ignorance as to the possible incompatibility of my newly found herbs with my doctor's advice and pills. Thanks to this book, we can all rest assured that I'm not messing with a dangerous mixture. Absolutely one hundred percent of my prescriptions were listed in the book and found to be safe with the herbs I'm now taking daily. The book is beautifully written with colorful pictures and easy-to cross-reference drugs, herbs, foods, etc. and their interactions with one another. At the end, a bonus that I had not expected: a long list of ailments offered to the reader who may have he or she's own agenda for wanting to try an alternative path to wellness. The mystery of these age-old remedies, that our ancestors probably used, is quickly unraveled in a written format simple enough for a child to understand. And, if I'm not mistaken, the author never once promised to cure cancer, etc. That would have been a giant signal to me that I was dealing with a quack. It is what it is, a guide to herbal usage. It's my new favorite book! P.S. Thank you to the previous on-line critics who lead me through the maze of self-help books to this very special one.
Excellent and Beautiful.......2004-10-21
Being as the publisher is Dorling Kindersley, the book is well laid out and beautifully illustrated. Being as the authors are medically qualified, the book is comprehensive and user-friendly. Very good book indeed.
A Must for the Budding Herbalist.......2004-05-18
This book is necessary for anyone even considering using herbs and herbal remedies for their family. It gives you interactions herba can have with prescription medication, other herbs, vitamins and minerals, even interactions with food!!! I have several other definitive herb books, but this is a must have. It also lists herbs that are safe for Children, the Elderly, and Pregnant Women,as well as the Herbs you should not use.
Improve Your Health with Herbs.......2002-06-08
Prescription and over-the-counter drugs can interact with herbs, so before taking an herbal formula it is a good idea to see which herbs should not be taken with various vitamins, minerals and prescription drugs. There are also some herbs that most people should avoid and this book contains the information you need to make the best decisions about your health.
Herbs can be quite powerful and there can be side effects. There are seven sections that explain the 175 best herbs and how to use them to promote healing and relive minor symptoms.
The Contents Include:
Introduction - Why you should take charge of your health naturally.
Safe & Effective Herbs - Safe herb catalog and herbal medicine explained
Safe and Effective Multiherb Formulas - Multiherb forumulas explained
Herb-Herb and Herb-Food Interactions - Potentially harmful interactions
Dietary Supplement-Herb Interactions - Beneficial dietary interactions, harmful interactions.
Drug-Herb Interactions - Drug catalog and understanding interactions.
Herbs for Special Cases - Safe herbs for children, potential dangerous herbs for children, unsafe herbs for pregnant and nursing women, safe herbs for older adults, dangerous herbs for older adults.
Buyer Beware - Herbal safety, herbs to avoid.
Appendix - Reliable manufacturers, suppliers, top-selling herbs, index of safe herbs, conditions index, additional reading, easy-to-use index.
Not only does this book give you the best information I've seen on herbal medicines, it also is beautifully illustrated with full-color pictures of the plants being discussed. The layout of the items is especially appealing and you will find this book easy-to-use and very practical.
For instance, if you are taking Anacin 3, Asprin-Free Excedrin, Bayer Select, Excedrin PM, Panadol or Tylenol, these contain Acetaminophen which is a pain reliever and fever reducer. While there is no known herbal interactions, you may want to help prevent liver damage from long-term use of acetaminophen by taking Milk thistle. So, preventative care is also discussed in detail.
The Index of Safe Herbs by conditions gives you information fast. If you have Insomnia, you can look up the name of the condition and you will find recommendations for Catnip, Chamomile, Dill seed and Valerian. To read about Chamomile in detail, you can easily look up the herb at the front of the book in the safe herb guide.
What you will find is a picture of the herb plant, why it is used, how it works, comments and cautions and dosage information. For instance, if you can't sleep, but are using a blood-thinning drug like warfarin, or you are allergic to ragweed, you might want to skip that remedy and research a second option. In the beneficial herb-herb interactions tables, you will see that catnip and passionflower are good combinations to relieve anxiety and insomnia. However, they should not be used with antidepressants or MAOI antidepressant drugs like phenelzine.
As with any remedy, it is a good idea to discuss your health issues with your doctor before taking herbal supplements or vitamins. Use this book to catch those items your doctor might not even be aware of. Most physicians don't seem to be aware of the side effects of herbs and don't take a great interest in this area. That has been my experience. Once you know what works for you, I think you will see your doctor less and feel empowered that you can in fact help your body heal with your own knowledge.
Echinacea, olive leaf extract and oregano have literally been a miracle for me and my husband. Within about three days of catching a cold, we seem to recover and get on with life. Before, even on antibiotics, it took one to two weeks to get well.
I looked up Olive Leaf on page 44 and sure enough it is used to treat infections, including colds and ear infections. It contains oleuropein, that has been shown to kill bacteria and viruses. It also has been used for antibiotic qualities for more than 6,000 years! Talk about an ancient remedy. Echinacea is also a Native America remedy and then you have oregano which contains substances that are known to be antibiotic and antifungal. I take the capsules as the oil is rather intense and is not recommended for internal use.
Herbs may be the miracle you have been looking for.

Book Description
Now in paperback, the most complete record of Britain's kings and queens ever compiled.
In one compendious volume, The Mammoth Book of Kings & Queens offers the first royal biographical A-Z, its pages lavish in details on all the rulers of kingdoms within the British Isles, together with their wives or consorts, pretenders, usurpers, and regents. Monarchs from Queen Boadicea of the early Britons to Elizabeth II fill these pages, including various tribal and Saxon rulers prior to 1066, the semi-legendary figures of the Dark Ages, and all those who helped to forge the kingdom of Great Britain.
Author Mike Ashley presents in chronological order all the kings and queens of Britain as well as other powerful nobles and dignitaries; he includes, too, genealogies showing the family descent of all the leading royal families as a further bonus. His resulting superb and authoritative one-volume reference is now available in an affordably priced Trade Paper edition.

BEST GENEALOGY BOOK IN PRINT.......2005-09-06
This book contains more Royal genealogy information in one place that you could search for in a lifetime anywhere else. This book is comprehensive and covers a Royal history of thousands of years that includes the ruling dynasties of almost every European country. I have been tracing my Royal ancestors and until I got this book, I was limited. But reading this book revealed not only thousands more names of my great-grandparents, it includes little tid-bits of information that also covers personal tragedies/triumphs, royal reigns and family life. I HIGHLY recommend this book not only as an interseting read, but ESPECIALLY if you are researching Royal ancestors.
more for hobby than work.......2004-06-01
First let me state that I love this book. I read it all the time, though I haven't come close to finishing it due to its size.
I love this book because it is interesting. It has every British ruler you can think of piled in there, from the most recent to the semi-mythological ones of bygone days. And this includes the ruling families of those who came to power in Britain. The most obscure rulers are covered.
The book is incredibly well indexed. I can find any ruler easier than it would be to look his name up alphabetically. Even better than that, I don't have to know the name of a ruler to find him. There are charts, graphs, geneological tables, maps, everything.
However, there is one major flaw with this book. As the "Royal Book of Records" in the beginning might suggest, the book might more be considered gossip than fact. The RBoR is fantastic, listining the Top 10 rulers for all sorts of things...strangest deaths, earliest marriages, most kids, you name it.
But the whole book kind of takes on this theme.
I would not have known that the book isn't the most reliable of sources if I hadn't gone and tried to use it on my papers for university (Dalriada, Pictland, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons mostly).
Which I did, and subsequently got marked off on. Every point that I cited with this book got marked off.
But I still can't help loving it.
Mistakes.......2001-09-28
I have not read this book, but those genealogists I trust have, and they report it to be full of errors. Apparently the author simply used older reference works rather than doing his own full research ... or even being familiar with recent published work. Thus, use the data in it only if you don't care if it is correct.
Mammoth Book of British Kings and Queens.......2001-07-21
When I discovered my geneology search led me to the British Royal Line, I began seeking a good historical resource for further details. I was delighted to find detailed facts about members of the Royal line, along with clearly diagramed and written geneology which aided and enriched my search. This book turned out to be a terrific resource.
