    Book Description

Many books have been written about World War II, but this one is a little different. It looks at the war from the standpoint of a young boy just out of high school. He soon learned that in wartime, your life is on the line and it is the luck of the draw that determines whether you live or die. He was lucky. He did his duty, flew all over the world and returned home unscathed. He calls it a GOOD war story because he didn't have to kill anyone.

The author was trained as a flight radio operator. His job was to ferry bombers from the factory where they were built to every part of the world where US troops served. For three years, he flew to and from the war zones, visiting six of the seven continents, Greenland, Iceland and many of the Pacific islands. The book relates his adventures during these travels. It is based on his official flight log and mission orders, as well as personal letters and other memorabilia.

                        Book Description

Will I live with my parents again? Will I stay with my foster parents forever? For children in foster care, the answer to many questions is often "maybe." Maybe Days addresses the questions, feelings, and concerns these children most often face. Honest and reassuring, it also provides basic information that children want and need to know, including the roles of various people in the foster care system and whom to ask for help.

An extensive afterword for adults caring for foster children describes the child's experience, underscores the importance of open communication, and outlines a variety of ways to help children adjust to the "maybe days"— and to thrive.

5 out of 5 stars Truly Excellent Book!.......2007-09-25

This book is just wonderful! It addresses the reasons why children enter foster care in a realistic but age-appropriate manner. It lets kids know that their feelings are normal...and that it is normal have a hard time adjusting. Maybe Days also addresses the uncertaintly that is such a big part of foster care...will the child live with his siblings again?...will he have visits with his parents?...will he go back to live with them?

Reading this book together is a good way to start conversations with children about their feelings and concerns. There is also an excellent guide at the end of the book for Foster Parents and other adults.

I work for and adoption agency with children in the foster care system and I LOVE this book. I have not found a better book to explain why to a child why they are in foster care and what is happening around them. This book explains complex topics in a very simple and easy to understand language.

                        5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!.......2007-05-25

I am an elementary schoolteacher and purchased this book for one of my students who has been in foster care for most of her life. She was able to relate to the book quite well and it sparked conversation between both of us as well as helped me to understand her experiences a little more. I did not have many options to choose from when searching for this book and this definitely is a treasure.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding and very realistic.......2007-01-16

I work with children in the school setting and often counsel children who are in foster care. This book is outstanding! Children can identify with the experiences and questions depicted in the text. The book does not sugarcoat the process (e.g., acknowledges that adjusting to life in a new family can be hard), but it does offer hope and comfort and encouragement for kids to live their own lives despite the uncertainties. I can't imagine a better book for this population.

                        5 out of 5 stars already a favorite book.......2005-12-28

Using this book on recent trips to Baltimore and Los Angeles, I found wonderful restaurants I would not otherwise have known about. I went to about eight different places in all, each time with friends or family members who weren't vegetarian. Each place was excellent though not usually fancy or expensive and each time no one complained about not having meat. John Howley has an excellent approach, very savvy and eclectic. He recommends places like the Helmand in Baltimore which seem to specialize in meat but where vegetarians can find the best meals (without meat) in town - and simple places like Vegan Express in Los Angeles that non-vegetarians are wild about. This book has quickly become one of the most useful books I own. I recommend it to anyone who travels and who cares about healthy and delicious food. In fact I went back to this site to buy another copy to give as a gift, and decided to write a review in gratitude. Thank you.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for the Veggie Traveler.......2005-02-21

A one of a kind book that I'm so glad to have found for when I visit relatives or travel for work and want to find some vegetarian fare. For each state there are cities listed and from there the restaurants and health food stores are listed. The listings provide the address, telephone number, hours, type of food offered (e.g. ethnicity, types of food on the menu), comments about the food, and other info. Distinction is made on places that offer vegan foods too which is terrific.

5 out of 5 stars Best natural food directory around!.......2003-06-21

I have owned 3 different directories of natural food restaurants and stores, and this one is by far the best! I used "Tofu Tollbooth' for years, and it was good to have, but eventually it was very outdated, and never was as complete as it could have been. "The Artichoke trail" was almost useless... it was very incomplete and didn't diferentiate the vegetarian from non-vegetarian places.
This book is awesome! It has ten times the listings of "tofu Tollbooth", with lots more info on each location and great directions to each location. It has a great resources section listing the ingredients used by many national chains of restaurants, and many great resources for vegetarians on the web.
I am on the road about two weeks a month, and this book has been so valuable. I WON'T TRAVEL WITHOUT IT! THANK YOU!

Especially recommended as being an excellent resource for vegetarians on vacation, business trips, or who have moved into a new community, Vegetarian Restaurants & Natural Food Stores lists restaurants and stores by state, and includes addresses, phone numbers, open hours, comments, and very detailed directions for each place.

My mother picked this book up from a store in Brooklyn and I just had to have one for myself. The projects are incredibly simple yet the results are adorable. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with your children. Many of the supplies can be found on doll-making websites as well as at chain craft stores. This is NOT a feltmaking book but rather a book on how to use felt sheets and roving to make small dolls. Once you start making them you can't stop!

I got this book and was immediately disappointed by it. I was expecting more hand-felted toy instructions and there were few to none. The toys in the book are mostly from flat felt sheets like you'd buy at the craft store, not from actual wool that you actually felt. I returned it immediately.

I figured since my children were all under the age of 10 this book would be awesome for us...BUT beware. This is not a felting book, this uses premade felt (although a expensive german wool felt resource is listed in the back...but again expensive!) I was expecting felting ...from wool not SEWING dolls with felt peices. Although they are very cute in their own respect. I also think this book OVERUSES wood doll forms! NEarly every doll calls for this...i havent the faintest idea what the heck it is or where to get it...they apear to be wood beads but this is not what they are called. Again as long as your net expecting what i was then this small book is very cute.

Sorry to say, this book had very little to offer. Probably geared more towards kids under 10 years old. I returned it.

                            Book Description

"Vaccines: Are They Really Safe and Effective?" (the new, completely updated and revised edition) is the most well-documented vaccine book in the world. It includes 30 charts and graphs plus nearly 1,000 citations so that all of the information may be confirmed.

This bestselling vaccine handbook (more than 100,000 copies sold) evaluates each vaccine for safety, efficacy, and long-term effects. It contains the most comprehensive, up-to-date, uncensored data available — information that many doctors don't even know. It includes the most recent studies, numerous case histories detailing vaccine-induced damage to children, and pinpoints for parents exact conditions that may put their own children at high risk. It includes information on vaccine ingredients, natural versus artificial immunity, and provides data documenting correlations between MMR and autism, polio vaccines and cancer, the hepatitis B vaccine and multiple sclerosis, the Hib vaccine and diabetes, and much, much more. In addition, it outlines current vaccine laws and offers parental options to "mandatory" shots.

Here are some highlights from this landmark book:

Polio vaccines were contaminated with cancer-causing monkey viruses and administered to more that 100 million people. Sixty-two studies from 30 laboratories around the world have linked these tainted vaccines to dramatic increases in brain tumors, bone cancers, lung cancers and leukemia (pp. 20-22).

During the 1980s and 1990s, more than half of all measles cases in the United States occurred in people who were adequately vaccinated (p. 29).

Surveys in medical journals indicate that up to 87 percent of pediatricians and family practitioners do not believe the hepatitis B vaccine is needed by their newborn patients (p. 51).

A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association has linked the chickenpox vaccine to serious adverse events, including neurological disorders, immune system damage, and death (p. 54).

A recent study in the British Medical Journal has linked the Haemophilus Influenzae Type B (Hib) vaccine to rising diabetes rates (p. 58).

The new anthrax vaccine for humans is designed to protect monkeys against one strain of anthrax. Yet, researchers have documented more than 1300 strains of anthrax (p. 70).

According to the FDA, thousands of children are damaged or killed by vaccines every year. Families of vaccine-damaged children were recently compensated more than $1 BILLION (p. 102).

Parents, educators, and health professionals have very few sources of information permitting them to make informed choices regarding vaccines. But concerned parents are pleading for answers to their many questions. Doctors only tell them one side of the story; there is another side. "Vaccines: Are They Really Safe and Effective?" tells the other side and helps all concerned people to make wise and responsible decisions.

Includes information on ALL recommended childhood shots PLUS anthrax, smallpox, and flu.

5 out of 5 stars Good book - I have to disagree with other recent reviews........2007-10-10

Two other recent reviews on this book say that this book is wrong and that it's statistics are inaccurate. I have done my own research and disagree.
This is an excellent book to get the no-vaccine or delayed vaccine opinion. It is not perfect, but then again the CDC's vaccines statistics are inaccurate too!
This is an good resources to be very informed about vaccines so that you can make the best desicion for your child.

5 out of 5 stars EVERY Parent should read this.......2007-07-03

This book is fantastic! It is very informative and the facts are well researched with many sources cited. I planned to vaccinate my children and a friend let me borrow this book while I was pregnant (she got it from her chiropractor.) I was extremely sceptical- until I started reading. People will accuse those who don't vaccinate of being bad parents but if you educate yourself about the vaccines you'll realize that not vaccinating is one of the best things that you can do for your child. This book gives pros and cons for each vaccine but the cons far outweigh the pros. Many of the vaccines can have devastating impacts on short-term and long-term health, cause disorders and even death. Read this book- for your children!

5 out of 5 stars Very well researched, informative book!.......2007-06-05

I have read many books on this controversial subject and this is by far the best, most well researched book to date that I have read. If and when I do decide to vaccinate it will be on a delayed schedule and they will be selective, the benefits of vaccinations just don't outweigh the risks, especially if you are breastfeeding, your child has natural immunity to many illnesses.
In the end each parent has to make the best decision for their child but personally knowing a parent who's child was perfect and alert and then received his 6 month "routine" vaccinations and become like a zombie and now has autism, it really meakes you think.
Even medical doctors are acknowledging the fact that vaccines are risky when given in the combinations they are dispensed in. In Dr. David Perlmutter's book "Raise a smarter child by kindergarten" he discusses how in 1991 the US gvt. added 3 additional vaccines to the required number and in that same year the rates of autism went up 1500%. Coincidence?
He suggests a delayed vaccine schedule and using single dose vials, which supposedly contain less thimerosal. Decide for yourself!

PS- For all those angry 1 star reviewers, why don't you talk to a parent of a child that has had an adverse vaccination reaction and see how angry they are!

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOOK FOR PARENTS TRYING TO DECIDE.......2007-05-11

This book was FAR more helpful than "What your Doctor May Not Tell You...". I feel confident now in my decsision to not vaccinate my son.
This book is clear and concise. It is shocking that there are actual, reported cases of death immediately after a vaccine was given yet the general consensus amongst doctors and the medical community and government is to continue giving these vaccines. I understand their point of view- their main concern if public health and I can not deny that more cases of these diseases could possibly occur without the vaccines but that is not a fact, just a possibility and furthermore, most of the diseases we vaccinate against are not serious.
So, the public health side of the debate is harder to resolve than the inner debate a parent needs to go through. After reading the documented accounts of the gruesome, permanent reactions some children have had to vaccines I simply can not/ will not chance it with my kid.
Another great source is Dr. Jay Gordon's website which has a short overview of vaccinations and is totally objective.

                            4 out of 5 stars Very informative.......2007-01-05

In my researching of whether to vaccinate or go vaccine-free, I found little mention of the actual diseases the vaccines are protecting against. The pro-vaccine camp is telling me that to not vaccinate means my children will get these horrid diseases. The anti-vaccinate group is telling me how awful the vaccines are. What this book did for me was explain the actual diseases the vaccines are to prevent...symptoms, duration, how to treat, etc. I was able to read and use it to help me determine which ones are worth the vaccine, which ones are ridiculous to vaccinate for, etc. Definitely worth the read, but four stars because I feel further reading is required before making such an important decision.
