I thought this book was well written and provided me with a feeling of how it was to revist some of the places where the author served as a young man. I was surprised at how well paced it was.

Wasted.......2005-01-01
Several hours of my life and $20 were wasted on this book. McNiff did not dedicate much to the writing of this book, so I'll dedicate little to the review. In a nutshell:
- poorly executed
- scattered writings
- uncollected thoughts
- McNiff! Familiarize yourself with a spellcheck application.
- fragmented/run-on sentence structure
- non-edited book; not even a proofreader was involved
That this book exists is testiment to the fact that small and self-publishing companies care nothing about literature and only about their bottom line.
To anyone contemplating this book, I'm sure you could find a much better use for your money, say, lining the bottom of a birdcage.

a student of occult born in GREEK CYPRUS.......2000-04-03
This book is one of those rare blends of biographical information, useful practical notes with an easy readable writing something that we find lacking from translations usualy. It contains all kinds of information both for persons that are now begining to read about the occult as well as information that experienced magicians will find usefull, like medical formulas that a MAGE will find interesting and will want to experiment with.I found it extremely interesting and readable i recomend it to anyone that is interested in reading an enjoyable book even if you don't beleive in occult you will find the stories very interesting. The onely flaw of the book is the first part of it with the difficult to comprehend magic figures.

Keen Insights into the 'Why' of Our Behavior.......2007-08-25
This text is much more than a book on proper nutrition, diets, and eating habits as I originally thought. It takes you step by step with examples of why people live the way we do, including eating, sleeping, the use of drugs, and many other examples are included in the pleasure trap of modern day society.
I think it is well done despite one or two so so reviews.
The Pleasure Trap presents keen insights of our modern day society which are, in my view, critical to understand for anyone that wants to break free of the modern day pleasure trap. Without this understanding, (which I did not have before reading the book), one wonders aimlessly and frequently falls into the many traps that are not good for your overall health. Some people, I suppose, do not want to escape the traps and are content to indulge. But if you want to take ownership of your own health, and not rely on modern medicine to 'save you', read the book.
MUST READ AND EMBRACE.......2007-03-15
This is similar to other classics in the area of nutrition. The secret is out, obvious and will anyone follow it. Easy to read and easy to understand, what you eat determines your destiny in terms of health. eating nothing is better than eating poisonous food or a standard American diet.
highly recommended.......2007-01-07
I wanted to give this book to everyone on my Christmas list. It's an excellent read for anyone interested in psychology or health. This book sheds light on human nature, why we do what we do, and how our behaviors have evolved. We have created for ourselves a life of ease and excess, which, unfortunately, has lead to our collective demise. Because of the way we are hard wired, it is understandable why we eat the way we do (cooked, refined, processed "foods"), for example, but it is very self destructive and goes against our better judgement. We as a species have set up a huge trap for ourselves and we are suffering as a result. It seems the only way to avoid the misery that is inevitable as a result of the diseases of affluence, is to go against the grain, back to what's natural and logical, back to eating what we were designed to eat: raw plant based foods. It's not a matter of chance. If we keep doing what we have been doing, it's not a matter of IF we will get a disease, it's WHEN. Disease as a result of eating garbage has become so commonplace we accept it as normal, but it hasn't always been that way, and it doesn't have to be that way now. It's not enough just knowing what to eat, and that we should exercise, drink water and get a good night's sleep. The Pleasure Trap explains why it's so hard for us to follow our own common sense, why we keep backsliding into counterproductive habits and how we can reverse the downward spiral of our own making. I learned a lot about myself and human kind, and I now have a better understanding of why I ate two bean and cheese burritos tonight after nearly 70 days of eating mostly raw plant based foods. I decided not to give this book to anyone after all. The sad fact is, few people care about these matters. They just want to loose weight as fast as they can while still eating the same stimulating "food" and wallowing in the same poor habits. We want to keep our cake and eat it as well. It's sad. This book will tell you why, for those of you who really care to understand yourselves and improve long term.
This book is very easy to understand and the concepts are easily applied. I particularly liked the section on how to deal with people who sabotage our efforts to improve ourselves. For example, there are those who may criticize your new, healthy way of eating out of simple ignorance. They don't mean any harm, and have your best interests in mind. They probably just think you are misinformed and want to make sure you aren't being an extremist. Sadly, eating raw plant based foods is considered extreme these days. Never mind it is how humans have been eating since our appearance on this planet thousands of years ago (and have only recently managed to completely mess up when we learned how to plant food and domesticate animals). Then there are the people who know you are doing the right thing for your health but they go out of their way to tempt you or make you feel bad because deep down, they are embarrassed by their own bad habits. They want you to be like them so they don't have to feel uncomfortable or inadequate. The Pleasure Trap offers very useful techniques for handling both of these types of people, you know the ones. They are always making us cookies when we go on a diet. This is a small section, but in my opinion, this portion alone makes the book worth reading. The whole book is excellent. Buy it for yourself for Christmas, or just because you care enough about yourself to make a change.
Healthy New Year!
Pleasure Trap Review.......2006-11-14
This book provided me with an excellent understanding of how the Western World fell into the patterns of eating that are causing our modern diseases (obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc.). It also explains how our taste buds can be changed to actually prefer the foods that our bodies are designed to eat to stay healthy(which I tested and found to be true). Armed with this knowledge, I have successfully cured my acid reflux and lost weight while eating foods that I now prefer over the burger and fries norm of the American diet.
Eye Opening Book.......2006-11-04
I loved this book; it explains a lot of the reasons why we overeat and shop and do pleasureable things to excess; it helped me to take a look at what is really going on in our society; and how I can take more control of my own pleaure traps; and break free!

Enjoy 7 Nights of Delicious Meals by Cooking Just Once a Week!
How would you like to spend less time in the kitchen, but still prepare great meals for your family—and save money at the same time? After a long, hard day at work, you probably have little energy left to go home and cook a meal. Yet, you don't want to depend on fast food for your family either. In
The Once-a-Week Cooking Plan, award-winning cook
Joni Hilton shows you how to save time and money. Inside, you'll learn how to create seven days' worth of delicious, easy dishes for families of four to six—by cooking only once a week. For example, using chicken as the base, you can create these culinary delights:
·Tuscany Chicken Soup
·Pacific Rim Chicken Salad
·Madadamia-Crusted Chicken with Ginger Aioli
·Mexican Chicken Lasagna
·Pesto Pepper Chicken Pizza
·Chicken Papaya Quesadillas
This streamlined cooking method also allows you to shop just once a week, instead of popping into the grocery store whenever you remember you need something. With her fail-proof system of bulk preparation, freezing, organizing, and ways of getting kids into the act,
Joni Hilton shows you how to save 10 to 20 hours of precious time each week—time better spent doing what you really want to do, rather than slaving over a hot stove.

Delicious Time Saver!.......2005-11-13
I have been using this cook book for over two years and love it. Most of her recipes are really delicious, although I have never made any of the fish dishes. Sometimes I follow her instructions exactly and cook a week's worth of dinners in foru hours, other days I'll just double a recipe and put the extra meal in the freezer for later. Yes, as some reviewers have pointed out the author does call for a lot of expensive meats like rib eye steak. But I've found that you never need as much meat as she specifies. Instead of buying 12 rib eye steaks for a weeks worth of meals for example, I'll just buy five. That amount suits my husband and I just fine. All in all, this cookbook offers tasty, creative recipes that move beyond the traditional chili, spaghetti sauce and casserole dishes that many freezer cooking programs rely on.
Expensive, complicated, too fancy for me; Too much fish.......2005-07-14
More fish recipes than your normal cook-in-advance books. I didn't want to buy the book, but my cat spilled iced tea on the borrowed copy (helpful kitty). There were a few interesting recipes, but everything was way too complicated and expensive. I have since given my copy to a thrift store. If you enjoy cooking and eating gourmet recipes, but don't have the time, this might be for you. If you can borrow it at the library (via interlibrary loan if your branch doesn't have it) you can better judge it. I can't recommend it, because I found almost nothing appealing. But tastes are personal, and YMMV.
Just keep the book away from iced tea and cats.
Great recipes with good methods. You add the variation........2004-11-30
The recipes are very good. As noted in other reviews, the full fix-ahead method gives you a repetitive week of dining. However, if it's already in the freezer, leave it there for a week or two and leapfrog on to another section. You'll have a nice stock of quick meals with minimal prep when you need them and can break things up with your own repetoire when you have time. The recipes are still easy to follow if you skip the bulk prep and use it as you would a standard cookbook. You won't get frustrated trying to work back through multiple steps on different pages to assemble a "one off" item.
New approach but worth getting the hang of!.......2002-11-21
Love this book! Tried the ground beef mix and all the recipes for Week One so far, and they're all winners. My husband is still raving about the Peaches and Cream Stuffed Pork Chops! It took about 5-6 hours to cook one week's worth the first time, but I think I'll get faster after I get the hang of marathon cooking. Since I still do "regular" cooking some nights, one week's worth of Joni's recipes will probably stretch over 2-3 weeks for our two-person household. What a luxury to have delicious, restaurant-quality meals ready in your freezer when you are short of time. Joni includes directions for reheating whether you remembered to thaw in advance or not - that's really handy when your plans change at the last minute. Joni, if you're reading this - hope you'll come out with another cookbook soon - I'll be looking for it!
the food is good & not cooking every night is heaven.......2001-05-16
I have looked at a lot of cook-ahead cookbooks and chose this one because the recipes looked like something my family would actually eat. I was right - they are "normal" enough for my taco and hamburger loving children and tasty enough for my braised lamb shanks and grilled duck breast loving husband. I would agree with other reviewers, that if you are looking for budget do-ahead cooking, this is probably not the book for you. However, if you want to save time and have a realaxed dinner hour then I think this is a good choice. I have always balked at the once-a-month cookbooks because I can't imagine spending the 12 to 14 hours in the kitchen that kind of cooking would take, not to mention the kind of freezer space it would require. This seems like a great compromise and I have been pleased with the outcome.

Cats.......2006-05-25
It was only within the last 10 years that I fell in love with cats. Until then, I was afraid of them and didn't like them near me. Then I was asked to care for someone's cats as they had to go away and so I promised to feed them. That was it! I am hooked. If you love cats, as I now do, or are just curious about them, then you will love this book. It is a beautifully presented, 476 page book, on excellent quality, glossy paper, packed with colour photographs of every cat you can imagine and then a whole lot more! The text is well written and the print easy to read. The content covers cat care and cat breeds. If every book I ordered were of this quality, I would be very happy indeed. There is just one thing; I wish that the book had gone more in depth into Feline Urologic Syndrome (FUS)which is quite a common killer of cats. Information on that can be found on the internet.

Could have been better...................2003-10-06
I feel that although Alice Rhea presents alot of good, common-sense ideas from her long association with cats (hers included) and their owners, she falls short in some parts of this book when it comes to judging the cause or the solution to some of the behaviors mentioned.
Her "if-all-else-fails" attitude of locking a cat inside a carrier for the night (and placing the carrier in another room) is, in my opinion, downright ABUSIVE, CRUEL, and traumatic for the cat. Even if the carrier were big enough for a litterbox, and at least a dish of water (which kitty could tip over in his frantic efforts to get out), it would still be cruel. When getting out of bed in the middle of the night, what are the odds that the cat owner will GENTLY place the cat in the carrier???? And once kitty is locked up in this jail cell of a carrier, suppose there was a fire, or an equally urgent emergency that would cause the residents to leave the home abruptly -- what would happen to kitty, locked up in a carrier in a remote part of the house or garage??? Whether remembered and or forgotten, kitty stands to lose its life!!!!
And although she makes a good point about "Bad Breath" (may be a sign of serious dental disease), she doesn't pick up this thread in the "Messy Eater" section -- messy eating could also be a sign of diseased gums or teeth.
"Bed Lying on" does not even mention the SIMPLEST approach to keeping or getting cat hairs off the bed (in addition to locking the cat out of the bedroom buit NOT in a carrier) -- 1) Daily Brushing and 2) daily use of lint rollers, available in any drug store or pet store. My 3 cats, two of whom are longhaired (and who love being brushed every day) are welcome on my bed -- and so is the lint roller.
I was disappointed with those specific parts of the book -- with all those years of contact with cats and cat owners (and being, herself a multi-pet owner), Ms. Rhea did her readers (many of them not familiar with cat behavior) a disservice in those specific areas of her book, by not pursuing a less abusive way of dealing with these problems.
Help with a smile.......2003-06-24
This book brought a lot of smiles and laughs of recognition. As the "pets" of 2 homebound felines, we gained a world of understanding about how our companions viewed us and our shared home. The startle-can trick works wonders for keeping cats off furniture, even when we "alpha-cats" are not around. Handy habit-troubleshooting guide and clear explanations of what underlies the behavior. Have already shared the book with other cat-companions and they are getting their own copies for continued future reference.
Good Owners, Bad Habits.......2001-01-05
All in all, a fantastic book! I have recommended this book to tens of people already ... if you want clear, common sensical and effective ways of (re)training your kitty or want to understand why your cat is peeing in your bed/lounge/laundry ... then this is the book for you. Yes, it is written in a simple, good natured way, but if you are actually willing to put to work the advice given, it is a god-send. This is not a book for people who want a quick-fix, sell me a pill type solutions!! All the recommendations in here work - I have two living examples - but they all take some effort and time ...
Disappointing........2000-09-24
I wanted so much more from this book. I felt that the information contained was mainly common sense, and the writing seemed to be aimed toward a small child. Not only that, but the quality of this print is pretty bad - cheap paper and binding. There are so many better books out there, with creative and innovative techniques described that WORK. My kitties required that I try another title: "Is Your Cat Crazy?: Solutions from the Casebook of a Cat Therapist" by John C. Wright. I found this title to be much more helpful.
I gave this book two stars because a child might benefit from it, or even just someone who simply has not spent much time around cats.
Everything you need to know about your cat...in simple terms.......1999-04-17
Being the "protector and slave" of 8 cats, I thought I had a fair amount of knowledge on how to deal with feline behavior! I had also read a large number of books over the years on the subject. However, I was really surprised at how useful Alice Rhea's book is and how much more I have learned about cats from it. A huge variety of problems are answered in the book in a clear and simple style which outlines the problem, explains why it happens, suggests ways of stopping it, and details how to stop it from ever happening in your household. Ms. Rhea writes in a most entertaining way and obviously is a great cat lover. I have recommended this book to many friends, including to experienced cat breeders. It is a most comprehensive book at a bargain price. Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
My eyes thank MM for the break from pink and flowers.......2004-07-02
Somebody has finally assembled boy-themed scrapbook pages into a book. As a mom of two boys I can't tell you how many times I've wished that books about scrapping for kids didn't get dominated by so much darn pink! Oh well, now I have no excuse not to start my kids' own Growing Up Years albums.
All Boy Scrapbook Pages is from the Memory Makers folks who think of just about everything. The book is divided into themed sections to display examples of:
Introduction/Basics of how to scrapbook
Attitude (portrait/moments of the "macho" stuff)
Softer Side
Boy's Life (enthusiasms like sports and hobbies etc.)
Boys will be Boys (various antics)
Page title ideas
I was impressed with the clean, modern look of the pages. I noticed that a lot of color blocking was used, also much thoughtful journaling. It was a welcome change of pace from the floral- and accent-laden pages that (IMHO) we women seem to gravitate more naturally toward. The color choices were sometimes on the bold graphic side, other times muted, but very elegant and sophisticated overall. I think this collection is a good representation of the range of subjects and looks that are possible when dealing with boys' pages.
Each page included detailed instructions on how to recreate it. I was left with few questions and a lot of inspiration. My only nitpick: the pages were light on boys under the age of two and boys in the later teen years. I suppose that's what those baby books are for, but what about teenagers? I for one do not consider teens to be "grown ups" quite yet!
So, this is a must for parents of in-between toddler and teen boys as far as I'm concerned. Unreservedly recommended.

Landscaping with Native Plants of Michigan.......2007-08-30
I purchased this book for my daughter to replace a borrowed copy. She is trying to plant her back yard with native plants. She thought this was an exceptional book.
Great start.......2007-08-03
This book was a great introduction to the native plants of MI, how to plant and take care of them and which non-native species to avoid. Really the only thing lacking was a more complete list of the native plants. I have found several that were not included in the book. I would still recommend this book to anyone interested in planting only native plants of MI in their gardens.
Landscaping with Native Plants in (Kalamazoo) Michigan.......2006-11-11
I am new to gardening and new to Michigan. I have found the book very helpful in choosing plants of all kinds (trees, shrubs, ground covers, etc) to include in the landscape of our suburban home. The author provides tips on landscape design and style, as well as information on many of the more technical aspects of planting, such as soil testing and modification. But most importantly, the book is full of beautiful pictures of individual species as well as plant groupings, with information on the landscape use and requirements for each. I keep the book by my favorite chair and browse the pages when I have a bit of free time, enjoying the pictures, learning about the seasonal color or bird-attracting traits of individual plants, and choosing which ones I would like to add to my yard.

I loved this book!.......2000-11-21
The authors blended together (in eloquent prose) concepts, strategies and techniques to sharpen the mind. This book is not merely one to read, but a book to study and review periodically. It contains valuable information that one needs, and should know about the human brain. The authors did their research and it shows. They combined substance, style, and wit in presenting their information in a manner that makes the material "unforgettable". If you are looking for a gift that just about anyone can benefit from, this is it! It was a terrific gift I gave myself!

This book has provided the most interesting games and exercises for practice and entertainment. It has accomplished the goal of inspiring me to continue such activities to keep my aging brain healthy. Positive results from having read it are already noticed. However, this book is more than a book of games. The chapters which involve the development, styles of learning, and processes of the brain are presented in most understandable an dmeaningful ways.
Our Views On Mind Games, The Aging Brain and Its Health.......2000-08-08
We both read the entire book and did the exercises which are challenging and really give your brain a workout, and some of them can be done while driving. It seemed to be saying the brain needs exercise regularly to keep it healthy just as the body does, and the book contains numberless exercises. There is something in it for everyone.
The best book on the topic I've seen!.......2000-03-28
While there are other books that include "Mind Games", this ground-breaking book describes ageless mental agility. In addition to the many interesting and thought-provoking games, the science behind them is fascinating.
