All of us are vulnerable to various life-changing events that can impact us so greatly that our lives are put on hold while the rest of the world continues to live.When Jerry met Laura, his young life found direction and happiness. He subsequently grew in his faith and asked Laura to marry him. Their plans were to be put on hold, however, as Laura was left waiting while Jerry endured the life-changing experience of a combat infantryman in the Vietnam War. Upon Jerry's return, the young couple married and eventually started a family. When tragedy struck, the family endured heavy grief until happiness arrived in an unexpected way. While searching for answers to his own misfortune, Jerry organized a reunion of former battlefield companions. Meeting once again after 33 years, the veterans learned they were not alone in their emotional hurt and anger, but found comfort in each other's support.

I served with Sgt. Rohr in 1st Squad 1st Platoon B Company 2/5 Cav. The story of Dennis Wirt is one that has stuck with me for almost 40 years now. He was in our squad and was killed in a plane crash going on R&R to see his girl friend Nikki. We all knew of his death immediately and wondered how and when Nikki found out what happened after he did not walk off his plane to meet her on Okinawa. I think about him and this incident often. In the book, Jerry actually contacts Dennis' mother and I learned what happened to Nikki. I also learned that Dennis' mother wondered why she did not hear from Dennis's friends after his death. I wish now I had done what Jerry did. Maybe there is still time. So many lives are connected in so many ways.

Jerry links life's events together in spiritual ways, but life is spiritual if we are lucky enough to experience it deeply. I am biased, of course, but I think this is an amazing and emotional book. Thanks, Jerry. I hope to see you and the others at your next reunion, 40 years is too long. I will give this book to my two sons.

A Unique War Book.......2004-09-06

I read this book at the recommendation of one of the veterans of the unit. It is unique in that it describes a hard-fought small unit action in Vietnam, but also the later lives of those who fought it. They are not only soldiers - and courageous ones -but human beings who have lives after the battle.One of them - the author - had another victory - you'll have to read it to learn what this one was. We owe him an unpayable debt.

Lives on Hold is for Everyone.......2004-08-18

This book should appeal to both men and women. Anyone who has loved ones in the service,the Viet Nam War, or any war will relate to the emotional hurt that these men went through. His war experience while serving in the Army shows what hardships they had to endure. By looking for answers to Jerry and Laura's personal tragedy Jerry found a way to deal with his own grief by reaching out to others. Jerry was able to express his own feelings throughout the story and you find yourself grieving with him and his young family and also for his Army buddies.

This book recounts the very interesting biography (life and work) of the Viennese biologist Raoul H. Francé (1874-1943) and of his wife, Annie Francé-Harrar. Francé was virtually the first biologist to recog-nize the importance of ecology for the well-being of mankind. In his "Doctrine of Life" he worked out a blueprint for the way by which human civilization could be allowed to grow without destroying the planet. His "Objective (Biocentric) Philo-sophy" provided the means for every human being to achieve a happy life in harmony with nature. His teachings are at present even more applicable than in his own time because the danger to the en-vironment is many times greater today. He was a Renaissance-type personality who had a multifaceted character: a scien-tist specializing in microbiology and plant sciences; a literary author possessing a beautiful writing style; an editor and pub-lisher of a number of important journals; an educator who influenced two genera-tions of students; an administrator who founded, organized and directed an insti-tute and a number of societies; a visual artist in his own right, and last, but not least, a philosopher who created a new philosophical system. Francé became known to the public at large for his dis-covery of Bionics, and for the founding of the new science of Soil Ecology. The book is an easy reading with 58 illustrations, containing a wealth of information not only about the lives of the Francés but also about the environment and society in which they lived around the turn of the century. It is recommended reading for anyone interested in Biology and Philo-sophy, as well as the life story of two exceptional personalities.

I bought my copy of this book 11 years ago just after the birth of my first child. Two more children later and I still refer to it constantly. Every symptom and concern is covered and the guidelines are easy to follow. I constantly recommend the book to other new parents and give it as a gift often.

A new parent must-have!.......2007-05-07

This is the greatest parenting book as it pertains to childhood illnesses. It goes into nearly every imaginable illness kids get, and gives the parent lists of symptoms to watch for, as well as instructions for each. It advises the parent as to which symptoms require a doctor's office visit, vs. symptoms which can be treated at home.

This, along with the book "Meditations For New Mothers," are my two favorite books to give at baby showers.

Our pediatrician told me to get this book shortly after my first child was born. I was a newby and everything was an emergency to me. This book makes an easy and ready reference to know what is an emergency, when to call the doctor, and when your child is just doing what is normal. I have three kids and still refer back to it as each child has been different.

This is a reference for everything from chicken pox and eczema to discipline strategies and how to deal with a picky eater. Hands down the best book for parents. It has saved me a fortune in unnecessary doctor bills.

The best of many children's health books I own.......2007-03-01

This book is an absolutely wonderful reference, and I recommend it for any home with children! It was given to me as a shower gift by a Nurse. The information is never overwhelming and is always helpful. It contains information on just about everything you can think of from physical illnessnes to sleep problems, nutrition, discipline and behavior, etc. When my child was having problems sleeping through the night, my pediatrician gave me a handout, and I noticed it was a xerox copy from this book!! The suggestions worked like a charm for my son's sleeping, and I've been using the book exclusively ever since. It has never steered me wrong. Definitely buy this!

Love This Book!.......2005-10-10

I am a mom of three and this is the shower gift I have used more than anything else. The corners are bent and the front cover is missing as I use this ALL of the time. There is practical information for everything from disapline to disease. I buy this book everytime I'm invited to a baby shower as I know it's a must for every new mom.

I haven't prepared anything from this cookbook that wasn't excellent. Wonderful pictures that make you want to try the recipes. I've loaned my copy to family members on several occasions and am now looking to purchase another copy as a gift.

I "stole" this cookbook from my brother last summer and have tried several of the recipes. Am now trying to find my own copy! There is a photo and a complete nutrional analysis for EVERY recipe, and lots of vegetarian choices. An excellent cookbook!

Instructions galore.......2006-04-09

Finally, simple instructions for the many things that some - but not all - scrapbookers know how to do. If you don't know how to use an eyelet it doesn't help to be told "Insert eyelets at the corners" without being told just how to go about it! Smiley uses photos and definitions and doesn't skip steps in the instructions. In the Resources section, the list of Web sites is worth the price of the book.

Although the book is a photographic delight, if I wanted to see other people's work, I would have bought a copy of Somerset Magazine.
I was hoping to learn the mechanics of how to construct a fabric book. There wasn't a word about that subject.
Anyone who is already into Altered Art would not learn much from this book. She does cover some techniques and shows a lot of other people's art work, but this book was not what I had hoped for.

Great Bible for Making Fabric Books.......2006-03-02

For anyone wanting to create fabric books this book is the place to start. Multitudes of ideas and how-tos are included. Great instructions on how to print onto twill tape with a computer were put to use in my very first project. There is enough information here to keep me going for quite some time. Helpful text book and a feast for the eyes.

An absolutely indispensable guide to the complexities of international philanthropy. Alumni relations, corporate contributions and international organization pros should have this tome on their desks before writing next year's strategic plan. Yes it is expensive! But, it should both save you money and potentially make an enormous impact upon your mission. Although it is a growing field, (in which I am a practitioner) international fundraising has very few seasoned professionals. Wiley should be congratulated in selecting the best person imaginable for this daunting work-in-progress.

I found the definitions to be of value (although I do not always agree with some of the nuances) and quality of contributors to be first-rate. Sure, there a some weaknesses. But, as this is to be the first of several editions, it is bound to grow in value with each printing.

This is a true story about a mother's wreckless faith in God. It is the story of a child born blind and with severe facial abnormalities. Doctors predicted that he would be retarded, hard of hearing, would suffer renal failure, and possible death by age two. They were wrong. Through the determination, prayers, and faith of his mother, Jacqui, the child, Jermine, prevailed.

Jermaine was not retarded but emerged a musical genius and began playing classical piano at age 8 1/2 months old. His face was reconstructed by world famous plastic surgeon, Dr. Kenneth Salyer, who had seen the youngster on ABC World News, while reporter, Edie Magnus, was doing a story about the piano prodigy.

After many struggles and heartache, Jermaine goes on to become one of the greatest pianists of our time. I loved this book because is it honest, gripping, and becomes a story about adversity. Any kind. Anyone could relate to this book and this mother's drive to get what her child and she needed to suceed. The book makes you laugh, cry, and thank God that you are alive to appreciate what God does in the life of believers. One of the Best Books I've Ever Read.......2001-02-04

I had a fantastic time reading this book, I couldn't put it down, infact I stayed up all night. This book gives a splendid overview of Michael Smith's experience as of the time he wrote the book, using articles he had previously written as well as new text. At the same time the book also gives very good detailed accounts which flesh out the book and make it a narrative. If you want to know about the social movements of the 60's in a very real and upfront way, really gain an understanding of that time, I recommend this book.
