Fantastic Bomber Pilot Memoir.......2007-10-09
Every so often I read a World War Two bomber crewman memoir that reaches out and grabs me. Such is John C. Walter's outstanding book MY WAR: The True Experiences of a U.S. Army Air Force Pilot in World War Two, published by Authorhouse in 2004. Not since I read the late Gene Carson's Wing Ding have I felt like I've gotten into the head and heart of a bomber crewman in such detail.
Walter flew as a pilot with the 95th Bomb Group (H) out of Horham, England in World War Two. The book begins with his enlistment and early training and follows Walter and his crew across the Atlantic to England, where they complete 35 harrowing missions in the early months of 1945 flying a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. Not all of the crew survives their tour, and many fellow crews also go down. Walter tells his story alternating the stress and terror of flying missions with the high-spirited living of the crewmen between missions. He explains many things that I never fully understood despite having read literally over a hundred bomber crew memoirs. I guess one could say Mr. Walter has an eye for detail that enables him to describe the experience in new and introspective ways. Considering he spent much of his career honing his writing skills as a technical writer for General Dynamics, he's had a lot of practice. He also has a wonderful dry sense of humor, which I appreciated greatly while reading.
Other pluses to the book are the good photographs throughout and the appendix, which describes in detail how to read a Pilot Information Sheet used on a mission. The book has 247 pages.
I managed to get hold of Mr. Walter today and I hope to use his insight and expertise while writing the 95th BG history this coming year. It is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it.

Book Description
Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) is one of the most famous and important philosophers of the twentieth century. In this account of his life and work A.C. Grayling introduces both his technical contributions to logic and philosophy, and his wide-ranging views on education, politics, war, and sexual morality. Russell is credited with being one of the prime movers of Analytic Philosophy, and with having played a part in the revolution in social attitudes witnessed throughout the twentieth-century world. This introduction gives a clear survey of Russell's achievements across their whole range.
Customer Reviews:
A Good survey of Russel's Work.......2003-06-08
Grayling has achieved a good survey of Russel's Work in the realm of logic and philosophy as well as his contributions to social, moral, political and educational debates. The selling point for me is the fact that he does it with so much brevity and crispness. Without going into the gory details of his philosophical and logical ideas, Grayling still strikes a good balance and makes for some intersting reading.
Highly recommended for people who'd like a quick introduction to Russel.
An elegant and marvellously readable account.......1998-10-09
Bertrand Russell thought and wrote about many things from highly technical logic to popular questions of politics and education. In the lucid, elegant and beautifully accurate prose for which he is well known (see his other books and his writings for the Financial Times Book Review, Prospect magazine, and elsewhere), the British philosopher A. C. Grayling gives a concise survey of Russell's entire range of thought. In the biographical first chapter Russell's life and works are summarised; in the next two chapters his achievements in logic, the philosophy of mathematics, and general philosophy are described with succinctness and clarity; and in the final chapters his popular and political thought is explained, ending with an assessment of his achievement as one of the century's greatest thinkers. Because Russell is a founding figure in analytic philosophy, an understanding of his work provides an introduction to contemporary debates in philosophy also, so this little book is not only a highly pleasurable "good read", but an education in the basics of philosophy.

Great book for patients with FMS.......2007-04-11
It offers an alternative over the counter treatment for people with FMS
8 years and going strong!.......2007-03-16
I started the protocol listed in the first book nearly 8 years ago. It took about a year to get through the initial phase. It has been worth every bit of the effort, including finding products containing no botanicals or salicylates. It's not that hard - just read the labels.
Before starting the guaifenesin protocol, I had some good days, mostly bad days. Now I truly understand what a good day is - it is a day I can do anything I want without ever considering the fact that I have FMS. It never enters my head! Imagine having a day like that if you can barely walk through the grocery store. I used to go to only one store because there was a bench in the middle of the store where I could sit to rest. And then half the time I would have to leave before finishing, or call my husband to come get me. I have found victory over this condition and encourage you to summon the courage to do it too. I admit that it was a hard decision. I was not sure that I could handle more pain in the induction phase. The pain was not as bad as I had feared, and the fog lifted much sooner than I calculated - it took only a year instead of 16 months. A year is a short time when you have the rest of your life to live free of the pain and fatigue. Do it for yourself and your family.
DLRocke.......2005-10-02
This book has saved my life. Ignore the idiot reviewers who condemn this book as too hard to apply. If you want your life back you will get this book and you will do everything in your power to do everything the protocol calls for. If it is not working it is something you are not doing. Try harder and figure it out! You are in charge. No one is going to do it for you. This book shows you how you can do it. So do it. I did it and hundreds of others have too. We have all wanted to live, instead of existing in a cloud of pain and fatigue. So LIVE!!!
It used to be extremely difficult for me to just walk around the block. And I was on so many medications to just "function". I am now medication free except the necessity of quaifenesin. I now go to the gym for an hour workout 5 days a week. It took me 2 years to get to that point. I am pain free. I have my life back. The guaifenesin protocol is a life style change that works. So change your life for yourself and for the people in it. Get the book and get with it!!
The medical community did not help me. They actually scoffed when I presented the quaifenesin protocol. They are more interested in treating the symtoms then treating the cause. I think this is a sad, sad, reflection of the Hypocratic Oath that they have taken. My renewed health is real. What a shame they can't participate in my joy.
Book Description
It's no mere coincidence that the easy availability of fast food to school children, both in school cafeterias and off campus, is increasing as obesity among American kids is reaching an all-time high. What's to be done? Parents are busier than ever, and it's not easy coming up with a lunch menu that is both nutritionally sound and appealing to a child. Author Miriam Jacobs tackles the problem in this little gem of a cookbook, which gives recipes and tips for harried parents concerned with their kids' nutritional well being. The recipes are designed to be easy and fast to prepare, nutritious and good to eat, and so much fun that even the kids will want to help.

Book Description
Second wives are often plagued by problems ranging from intrusions by their husband's ex-wife to the logistical horrors of sharing children over the holidays. With the divorce rate at over 65 percent, such issues are a growing reality for many women.
The authors, a husband-and-second-wife team, use clinical case studies and informative vignettes to highlight distinctions between a healthy second marriage and one tarnished by what they term "ghostly intrusions" from a prior marriage. Using self-diagnostic quizzes throughout the book, readers will learn to develop and customize workable techniques for resolving their second-wife issues.

Like finding a friend in the same situation.......2005-08-20
I thought this book was very helpful. When I read it, I suddenly felt like, Wow! Someone has felt exactly how I feel! Which helped me because then I could read how they handled it and how it worked for them. I found the book very helpful and felt better after reading it.
Sorry I bought it.......2005-07-25
I didn't like this book at all. I bought it based on the summary and reviews here, but when I got it and read it, I was disapointed. Maybe it just didn't fit my situation, but I found the quizzes silly and the advice just basic common sense.
Good info, but...........2004-05-25
I found this one hard to read. I've spent the last 6 months preparing for stepmotherhood, and I realize that it's really important to keep my marriage in the forefront of my mind. This book just really didn't do it for me. I must be lucky because my fiance is just the opposite of the men portrayed here. He's supportive, loving, and considers my needs as well as the kids needs the same.
On the money..........2002-12-14
Written by a second husband and wife team, this book is "designed to help you and your husband become lifelong lovers," and the authors tell us up front that "Knowledge is power; ignorance is vulnerability." That theme is prevalent throughout the book and makes it a helpful companion so that a second wife can identify and work to solve her problems. Everything is the book is based on the acronym LOVERS, and these points are factored into each solution and idea:
Loyalty
Openness
Value of Trust
Empathy
Respect
Stability of Commitment
We have to deal with a history we may not like or understand, and the difficulties can escalate into crises quickly. The average second marriage lasts only 4.5, years, the authors say, so many of us are struggling. Much of the book is devoted to transcripts from couples in counseling. You'll identify with many of the challenges they discuss.
The authors cover six problem areas, including the ex-wife, the kids, grandkids, the mother-in-law, friends, and damaging memories. Each section includes a quiz and responses and behaviors that will help you deal with the issues of your family.
You'll also see a "How to Find Your Challenge" quiz at the end where you can learn just how serious your problems are. Finally, there are "Help Yourself Tools" that include relaxation exercises, communication skills, problem solving tips and more. This book is straight talk specifically to the second wife -- when you've been there, you understand.
Enjoying being a "Second Wife".......2000-02-20
As a long time second wife, I found that this book confirmed many of the experiences that I had to learn through trial and error and often tears. It was well written and addressed all the issues that we, as second families, struggle with. I recommend it to all women in my position, especially those just beginning this new adventure. Thank you for sharing your experiences as a second wife. As a professional in the mental health field myself, I have already recommended this book to a client.
