Book Description
This book rediscovers property as a common denominator in human conflict, and as a useful tool for International Studies. To apply property theory as a key to the analysis of human struggle, we first have to accept a broad definition of the term. It is the mass of rights and duties that associate persons with things, especially land. Arrogation of property is usually the precursor to the violation of 'human rights'. The author argues that a better understanding of property dynamics can help us achieve our strategic designs, whether they be pacific or not. Geoproperty seeks to restart International Studies at the point of property and in so doing to find a mechanism for interpreting property changes, including those brought about by the new technologies.

Written by Dr. Love, a sex therapist with an aptronym if ever there was one, Hot Monogamy is no contradiction in terms. Comedian Dave Barry may joke about his guide to "marriage and/or sex," but Dr. Love's book proves that becoming sensually and "sexually fluent" is a skill that can send flames soaring, no matter how long you've been a couple or how humdrum your sex life has become.
Hot Monogamy includes a nine-step program that starts with a self-quiz for each partner for determining "sexual style." This helps pinpoint which areas need to be worked on, such as resolving differences in desire--one of the most common problems among long-term couples. Communication is a big topic, but another painless quiz helps reveal romantic expectations both in and out of bed to help clarify exactly where overlooked problems may be festering.
Then comes technique. The chapter "Variety: How to Have More Fun in Bed" may prove the most useful, with discussions of sex toys, fantasy, sex games, and other forms of experimentation. Dr. Love is a firm believer in the G spot, and clearly explains how to make maximum fireworks with it. The book also includes contact information for sexual products that can be sent to you confidentially, as well as guidelines and resources for seeing a sex therapist.
Customer Reviews:
cheaper than a therapist.......2007-05-25
This is an awesome book and is cheaper than a marriage counselor or sex therapist. It has actual written and oral (no pun intended) exercises to help couples get back in touch with each other.
Better book to read is PASSION PLAY.......2004-08-13
by Felice Dunas. Patricia Love makes some good points when she says that a couple should address their sexual issues LONG BEFORE they decide to get into therapy.
Read Dunas's book also. While Dunas' book is very sexually explicit, dealing with the ancient Chinese approach to great sex- yin/yang energy moving - she is very practical she even has a sample monogamy agreement included for couples.
Too Hot!.......2003-03-04
After eight years of marriage, I found Dr. Love's book to be a truly practical, intellectual and stimulating (pun intended!) guide to a more passionate, intimate love relationship. Be sure to share this with all your friends!
Dr. "Love" Has No Clue About It.......2000-03-24
Only a woman who had a marriage end because of her own lack of interest of sex could have written a book like this. She writes that a lack of interest in sex does not mean a lack of love. I have discovered that only two groups of people feel this way: Men who have wives with a high level of sexual desire and who initiate sex on a regular basis, and women with a low level of sexual desire who probably lost a husband by saying "I don't care if I ever do it again."
A real saucy sizzler!.......1999-05-02
My bedroom hadnt seen any action since the Alomo however Dr Love's book sure got them beans a jumping for me and my wife. The techniques sexplored between the pages (or should I say sheets) of Dr Love's raunch manual are satisfying yet not too taxing on the old bones. I would thoroughly recomend this sauce fest to anyone who is lagging in the old sexual athletics. Ive gone from a three leegged race to an Olympian and its all thanks to Doc L.O.V.E. This book is the literary equivalent of a Barry White record. Buy it today and I garuantee you won't look back. I couldnt pick it up now I can't put it down(know what I mean ladies?).Thanks you DR.Love.
Book Description
This lighthearted, frothy compendium of beer-related facts is perfect for every cervisaphile (beer lover), or anyone who craves historic lore.
Customer Reviews:
disorganized and uninformative.......2007-06-16
Disorganized and uninformative, this book omits important beer topics and definitions and contains lots of useless and uninteresting trivia.
Great!.......2006-08-17
Great book. Lots of explainations. Such as, Ale vs. Pale ale, current time a originally.
The Beer Drinker's Bible.......2006-06-26
It has all the great definitions of terms that I was looking for.
good reference book.......2005-10-12
A great reference book for people who love beer and beer history. Information is listed in alphabetical order, with a brief description of each entry. Keep this one handy. However, it is not a conventional type book, it's more of a fun-fact book. BTW the author is a professional brewer and writer.
Not a very useful guide.......2005-08-24
This book was a real disappointment: the entries are uniformly uninteresting and uninformative; the author clearly doesn't understand the process of brewing in the least. Save your money, this book isn't what it appears to be at all.

Dr Pitcairns natural health.......2007-10-05
This is absolutely a must book. Giving dogs prescribed medications often involves side affects which shorten their lives. Being able to find out about natural products that can help them is great. It can not only lenghten their lives, but also cost less in the long run. I highly reccomend this book to all dog owners.
great resource.......2007-10-01
this is a great resource book. It has lots of background info on dog foods and so much info on great supplements. It could be made easier with breakdowns or charts to guide you for quicker reference, because I find myself having to flip back and forth a lot. There is definitely lots of info and it has to be read more than once. I think the recipes are sound and easy to make. Although I can't cook for my dogs all the time, at least I can do it whenever they are ill or recovering from some ailment or surgery to ensure that their bodies are strong when they need to heal. This book makes it manageable to do that.
A great resource.......2007-09-23
This book is a great resource for pet owners. I find the health-care section of the book very useful. I have modified the recipes to accomodate the inherited allery issues my dog has. Modifying the recipes is a very involved process as the substituion of products recommended and appropriate amounts required for balanced nutrition can be a hassle to figure out, especially, if one's pet was allergic to multiple products.
This is a great book for pet owners who want to try homemade cooking and alternative medicine for their pets.
Excellent overall but diet not suited for all .......2007-09-01
There is more than one way to feed a healthy, non-commercial diet. I recommend buying both Dr. Pitcairn's book and Andi Brown's book, The Whole Piet Diet, to see which diet your animal(s) prefer. I have three pets, two 13-yr. old cats and one 1 1/2-yr old terrier. The cats had been eating holistic Blue Buffalo dry food along with some canned Friskies. The terrier was eating holistic Blue Buffalo dry food along with some raw meat, veggies, yogurt, etc. I recently learned that dry food is difficult for pets to digest and is terribly drying and causes digestive problems like vomiting, dandruff, etc. The Friskies is just plain junk food so I decided that I was going to feed healthier fare and bought both books (Dr. Pitcairn wrote the foreword in Andi's book). While Dr. Pitcairn promotes primarily raw meats with cooked whole grains, Andi Brown promotes cooked stews (grains included for dogs only, not cats). After experimentation, I found that my dog and one cat prefer Dr. Pitcairn's recipes and my second cat prefers Spot's Stew (from Andi's book). When I made the switch, I only started feeding the recipes without supplements to the cats. It took 15 days for them to eat consistently, then I started adding the supplements in small amounts and gradually built up to the daily recommended amounts. Tip: my cats preferred Andi's supplements over Dr. Pitcairn's (especially the essential fatty acids in the form of oils). All of my pets are doing very well on the diets but only because I was persistent in finding what worked best for each pet. I will never feed dry food again!
It's a shame..........2007-08-29
...that an obviously experienced and well researched vetrinarian would recommend a diet that includes grain as one of the staples of the diet. Anyone who does even a minor amount of research about the special diet needs of a dog would easily find that dogs do not possess the proper enzymes to break down grain properly and can lead to either minor or serious allergic reactions. Dogs should not eat any type of grain at any time. Anyone who reads this book, do not take it as gospel. Please do more in-depth research before you make any solid decisions on your dogs diet.
Besides that fault, there are only a few recipies included in this rather long book. I heard very good things about this book before I bought it and was thoroughly disappointed after I read it. Its hard to give this book anything else but a negative review.

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic book!.......2007-08-31
I love this book-- first of all, it's full of patterns that make me drool (and let's face it, most knitting books contain just a couple of really lust-worthy patterns for a beginner knitter). Among the things I want to make: delicious knitted driving gloves, beaded socks, beaded scarf and hat set, cabled mitts, the cute cat-eared hat, fingerless gloves....I could go on (you can see all the projects if you "look inside" the book--very useful. Thank you Amazon and Krause publishing)
Apart from the designs in the book which are creative, beautiful and actually worth making (this is not another collection of garter stitch scarves in different colours), every time a new skill is introduced, there are clear instructions, graphics and pictures to help along a knitter trying for example, beading or intarsia for the first time. The author also offers ideas and tips for using each pattern in a slightly different way by varying colour/texture. And the yarn information is clearly presented to facilitate substitution... (did I mention that I love this book?)
I'm what one might consider an advanced beginner and I adore this book and can't recommend it highly enough. It's easy, but contains enough challenges to keep things interesting and inspiring. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.
maybe not easy . . ........2006-09-23
I have to start out by saying I am about as novice a knitter as there could be, so the 'easy' in the title was enticing. Looking through the patterns now, while they are perhaps a bit beyond my skill, seem varied in skill level, with some easy, some that seem more dificult. The projects are not your typical scarf, mittens, etc. that you usually find in 'easy' books; they are fun, stylish and creative. Quite a few projects are beaded and different/unique cabling is used to create many of the styles. The instructions in the beginning are helpful, some of the better ones I have seen, with clear pictures and tips and even instructions for fairisle and intarsia. I can't wait to get started knitting!
Wonderful!.......2006-03-11
I love this book. This book is a must-have for any knitter! The projects are beautiful and the directions are excellently written. I'm making the summer purse now and it's turning out beautiful. I'll be giving this book as a gift to my 13-year-old granddaughter, who I taught to knit over the Christmas holidays.
classic.......2005-12-05
I passed on this book first time around as a beginner book because it does have over 30 pages for the beginner at the start of the book. But the patterns are interesting and would make nice gifts. I especially like the beaded items and the gloves. Designs are fresh, book is nicely printed with good photos in color. All the yarns are Jaeger/Rowan but it is easy to substitute. I like it better than the other "gift" books I've purchased and can find many projects from it that I'd like to make.
Not just for beginners!.......2005-07-16
I bought this book for the fabulous beaded denim bag pattern, hoping it would be full of similar projects. At first look I was a bit disappointed because it's a beginning knitting book, but after further perusal I found I wanted to make more than half of the 30 projects in it. I've been knitting a long time and sometimes it's hard to find challenging and inspiring projects, especially with the abundance of beginner's knitting books currently available. This book was a pleasant surprise - it's full of fresh, fun, trendy, and colorful designs. It would be a wonderful book for a beginning knitter - the instructions are very clear, basic techniques are clearly presented, and the projects teach lots of fun embellishment techniques such as beading and duplicate stitch. At the same time, the designs are creative enough to inspire more advanced knitters, and patterns for items like gloves and hats can easily be adapted for circular or double point needles. All of the projects are both decorative and very functional, and most would be special enough for gifts. If you want to have fun creating unique accessories, buy this book - I got my copy 3 weeks ago and am already in the middle of my third project - and I'm having a great time!

"Tending a garden isn't so different from raising children. Plants like to grow when you spend time with them. Don't keep the whole crop for yourself. There are always people who don't know how to make things grow, and they probably need your tomatoes more than anybody else." --Giuseppe Maestriami, age 85.
Though some may say that age and wisdom do not necessarily go hand in hand, this affecting volume of personal stories proves just the opposite. All the 104 seniors who offer their thoughts in this volume of reflections have something vital to say about what they found to be most true, most important about life. There are those who regret their choice of partners or jobs, those who found great joy in the little things, as well as those who no longer speak to their children. No matter what their life circumstances or philosophy, each person's singular perspective, flawed or otherwise, shines through in these pungent bits of advice on work, faith, love, and loss. Listen to 75-year-old Christina Martinez: "You shouldn't go around complaining that this one's a fool and that one's a fool. They're everywhere, and you should be glad. You'd be nowhere without the fools. They show you how you don't want to be."
Author Wendy Lustbader, an authority on aging and a mental health counselor, interviewed her subjects over several years, and what emerged was this record of refreshing candor. Artfully edited to capture the cadence and flavor of the individual contributor, each one-page story resonates with a spirit of great generosity and honesty. A short, touching biographical note and sometimes a photo accompanies each. In truth, much of the advice contained here can be summed up in a few well-worn clichés--savor the moment, follow your heart, cherish your loved ones--but taken together, these reflections create a powerful chronicle of human foibles and triumphs. Read this collection slowly, savoring it a story at a time. As Lustbader writes in her introduction, "I think you will see, as I have, that there is nothing sweeter than being able to live the middle of one's life with the perspective of the end." --Marianne Painter
Book Description
Colorful and enlightening vignettes about life by everyday people in their seventies, eighties, and nineties.
When social worker Wendy Lustbader was asked to take down the histories of residents in a retirement community, she discovered that "the man with Alzheimer's in room 410" was actually ninety-six-year-old Ole Harlen, a former concert pianist. "The woman who people-watches in the lobby" was really Lila Lane, who eloped to Tijuana with her sweetheart at age sixteen, and who at age seventy-five bemoaned the fact that she could no longer wear high heels.
Lustbader gathered these stories and more into What's Worth Knowing, a compilation of unforgettable first-person testimonials on love, truth, grief, faith, and fulfillment by people in their seventies, eighties, and nineties. Israel Grosskoff, for example, describes learning about trust while hiding from the Nazis during World War II. Giuseppe Maestriami passes on child-rearing lessons he discovered through growing prize-winning tomatoes. And Arsene St. Amand talks about the importance of making time for love-which he found for the first time only six months before his death.
In What's Worth Knowing, readers can spend time with Ole, Lila, Israel, Giuseppe, and Arsene-and a hundred others, whose wisdom matters all the more because of the way they've acquired it.
Customer Reviews:
Thought Provoking, Reflective!.......2007-03-10
A beautiful, well put together book. It's simple appearing format belies the treasure trove of wisdom and insights offered on life within it. The book is instructive for even the most reflective of readers and one has the feeling of a "one-on-one", intimate connection with each of the people in it. I have given copies of the book to friends as well as my adult children. It's too bad that we don't have the advantage of some of these insights when we were younger, but then it's not too late! Highly recommended.
A thoughtful, pleasant read.......2003-05-01
I too enjoyed this book immensely. If you are looking for the answer to life or a big philosophical revelation-you probably won't find it here though. The tales are short, simple and very reflective of the life of regular folks and the things they have faced. I thought it also gave a very good look at older"folks". So many times they are relegated to having no particular importance or nothing to say in in today's busy world of the young. Here folks talk of sorrow, triumph, love, joy and regret -the emotions that span a lifetime.
If you don't like it now, you will once you are older.......2003-01-11
I think those who gave this book a poor review did not give it a deep enough reading to see depth in this book. What's worth knowing addresses mundane topics, but that is the point. Some people go through life looking for what isn't there, missing out on what is. Those same people finding something missing in the book. This book won't tell you the cosmic answers for how to live your life. It will show you that there aren't any cosmic answers, just simple ones, and different ones for different folks. And the book shows that elders are just folks, regular folk in older bodies. This book is a valiant effort to combat ageism.
Just Because They're Old, Doesn't Make Them Insightful.......2002-08-01
The book is a bunch of snippets from older people. I did not find most of the snippets to be particularly profound or insightful. It is a short read (1 or 2 hours max) so it may be worth it to some people but not for me.
A beautiful and instructive book- simple, not trite........2002-06-07
I could not disagree more with the reviewer who gave this book a single star. I consider myself a deep thinker, and very well read on these matters as well. I found a depth here, as well as a simplicity-- and it was very true to life. I was touched by the author's intention as well as her presentation. This is a book I definitely plan to keep in my personal library-- I can't imagine why anyone would ever sell it! I feel grateful, and very enriched, for having read it. My deep appreciation goes to the author for her humanity and courage.

Book Description
It is no coincidence that the garment industry gained a foothold in Pennsylvania's hard-coal region as mines were closing or reducing operations. "Runaway" factories, especially ones from Manhattan, set up shop in mining towns where labor was plentiful and unions scarce. By the 1930s garment factories employed thousands of wives and daughters of unemployed or underemployed coal miners in the Wyoming Valley but organizing workers would prove difficult for the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU).
Fighting for the Union Label tells the story of how workers in the Wyoming Valley, led by Min Lurye Matheson and her husband, Bill, banded together and built one of the largest and most activist movements of garment workers in the ILGWU's vast network. Workers' education, political activism, a health care center, and a widely recognized chorus were among the union's trademarks. Despite the union's influence, however, the apparel industry migrated to the American South and then overseas in the 1970s and 1980s. Tens of thousands of workers throughout the state and nation would loose their jobs, and sweatshops would become part of the economic landscape in countries like Guatemala.
The first major work on the garment industry and its workers in Pennsylvania, Fighting for the Union Label draws extensively upon the Wyoming Valley Oral History Project (co-directed by Ken and Robert Wolensky) which has collected the reminiscences of more than 325 workers, factory owners, public officials, and others. The story of the dynamic Min Matheson and the rise and fall of the garment industry provides key insights into the deindustrialization of northeastern Pennsylvania
Customer Reviews:
Great Story.......2003-01-05
My mother worked in the garment industry in PA her entire life and this book tells me the story of how that happened. My mom was a staunch supporter of the ILGWU and now I know why. I highly recommend this book to anyone who had family that worked in the early days of unionization. It's a wonderful depiction of some very courageous women and men.
