Book Description
Dismissed from the U.S. Naval Academy in early 1861, William Barker Cushing nonetheless emerged from the Civil War as one of the Navy’s greatest heroes. Cushing transformed his reputation from a rabblerouser into a living legend, because he embodied the special qualities that the Navy demands of the men in whom it entrusts its most hazardous and secret tasks: a readiness to volunteer for dangerous assignments, an unflagging devotion to duty, and more than a fair share of good fortune. As Robert J. Schneller observes, "He was patriotic, aggressive, tough, and recklessly bold." Before embarking on his most daring mission-his celebrated destruction of the Confederate ironclad Albemarle-he bragged that he would "come out victorious or ‘toes up.’" By the end of the war he had amassed four commendations from the Navy Department and the thanks of Congress and President Lincoln. "All this for a man," Schneller writes, "who was only twenty-two years old when Lee surrendered at Appomattox." Employing his customary readable and entertaining style, Schneller focuses on Cushing’s naval career and those aspects of his personality that affected it.

Book Description
Those who are in the unenviable position of living or working with a narcissist have learned by sad trial and error that they are the only one in the relationship who can change the dynamic. Certainly narcissists don’t think they need to change. Enough About You, Let’s Talk About Me is a hands-on resource for helping colleagues, families, and spouses deal with people who exhibit narcissistic tendencies by learning how to change their own attitudes and responses.
Customer Reviews:
Great book!.......2007-08-10
This book was excellent in helping me relate in a healthy way with my husband. It was very encouraging and, rather than taking away hope, restored it. I would highly recommend it to anyone dealing with someone they love who has narcissistic tendancies.
Enough About You, Let's Talk About Me: How to Recognize and Manage the Narcissists in Your Life.......2007-03-26
I am not a big self help book reader but a friend told me to read this one and she was not wrong. This is one to keep as a reference book. It is great!! Cleanly written with great examples. I have to deal with narcissists in my work place and this book has become invaluable. I recommend it highly for anyone who has to deal with narcissists in their lives. The best one I have read on the topic....
Ugly Ugly Business.......2007-03-23
Before I stumbled onto this book , I had no idea this was a pychiatric personality disorder with a name, let alone that it had a whole small genre of books about it. To say that I feel satisfyingly validated for having read this book is a huge understatement. I want to give it 5 stars just for existing.
Every single suggestion in the book that the author offers, I have tried. The main advice, in a nutshell, is to be true to yourself and your values while being as respectful to the Narcissist as you can. While I have done this, and like to think this is my main M.O., I will also add that it never provides any sense of satisfaction that you have handled a sticky situation well. The author's argument is that if you act accordingly, at least you can feel good about yourself and probably prevent making the situation worse. I say maybe so, maybe not. Part of the frustration is that you never know! Given this, I say do whatever makes you feel best (blowing your stack at them sometimes feels really good).
While I am very grateful for this book, I am not giving it 5 stars for the following reasons:
1) Lopsided Content.
Anyone who has a Narcissist in their life, is already, sadly, extremely well-versed in what the characteristics are and how they manifest. I would have liked to have seen fewer pages on characteristic description and case studies reinforcing, and way more pages on useful tips.
2) Unanswered Questions.
The author (and others in the field) feels strongly that a Narcissist won't change. While I tend to agree, a couple of questions have always gnawed at me:
Why do they not emotionally and verbally attack small children - i.e. under age 10? ....... Or friend acquaintances?
That they choose not to, clearly indicates to me that they are aware of their behavior and can alter it when they choose. It shows they don't think it is worth attacking people who wouldn't "get it." So, if they can alter themselve to fit the audience and the situation, then why can't we get them to change?
As an aside, the part in the book about Narcissists being indulged as small children during the time when they need to be taught that, although, loved, the world does NOT actually revolve around them was very helpful. It perfectly fit to explain my Narcissist. It was also good for me to read as a parent of small children.
All in all, a good book which I recommend.
learning to cope with narcissistic behavior.......2007-03-03
This was a really great book on learning to identify someone in your life who is narcissistic and effective ways of managing their behavior (and yours!!) People who are always right, whose ideas and plans must over ride all others, who manage to draw attention to themselves for every positive thing that they do (and why!!) and who somehow always manage to leave you feeling guilty and/or angry at the way the situation turns out.....these are the people that are written about in this book. The strategy for coping with and deflecting the behavior of a narcissist was well thought out and can be implemented by anyone..........it just takes a bit of thought and the refusal to join into the narcissists' game.
I felt that this book had enough detail to inform and yet not overwhelm you. The look at the "heart" (they have one!?!?) of the narcissist was thought provoking but in the end the fact remains that you can not change that person no matter how hard you want to or how determined you may be. If you keep this individual in your life for whatever reason, you must learn to recognize their behavior and manage it in order for you to live a "normal" life.
In a Nutshell.......2007-02-23
This book describes narcissists, their behavior and their manipulations. If you are forced, either by relation or marriage, etc, to be around these people, this book helps you realize that YOU are not the problem, even though the narcissist thinks everyone else is the problem, not themselves.
If you don't have to be around them, this book tells you that is exactly what you should do. Avoid these people like the plague. And reading books like this may help us to recognize and avoid these rattlesnakes in the future.
I thought this was a very enlightening book.

Great vegan sweets collection.......2007-08-27
This is a wonderful cookbook filled with sweet treats for vegans and easy to follow recipe instructions. The only gripe that I have with this book is that most of the recipes use maple syrup in large quantities which is not economical for most of us.
Delicious.......2007-08-22
I've eaten the results of these recipes, served by Fran, herself. They are simply delicious. Knowing that they are healthy makes them all the more yummy.

Fool Your Taste Buds Easily.......2007-03-26
If you're new to vegan baking, you're likely to be intimidated by the process, and concerned that the results won't stand up to what you expect and get from your old standards.
Well, fear no more, as expert vegan baker Fran Costigan makes vegan baking easy and you can count on results that will fool your friends, family and loved ones because their taste buds not might not realize that you've given them vegan baked goods and other tasty treats.
Some of my favorite recipes are Mango Pineapple Mousse, Super Fudge Lowfat Brownies and Currant Scones, which I produced with terrific results.
There are wheat-free recipes that work wonders when you get those guests with specific needs, and everyone else will like them, too.
While the recipes are great, even better are the specific instructions and information on equipment, unusual ingredients, and secrets to baking great vegan cakes.
If dessert is on the menu, this is the go-to book on my bookshelf.

Best Book on Baking Ever!.......2007-02-16
I absolutely love this book. Everything in it comes out perfectly. The cranberry apple pie is simply the best pie I've ever had. The chocolate cake recipe is excellent as well.
Kids can lick the bowl... adults too! .......2007-02-14
For my son's 7th birthday he wanted chocolate cupcakes in school. As a mom who makes a living helping parents raise health children, I grabbed "More Great Good Dairy-Free Desserts Naturally" and made the Chocolate Cake...to live for. Only twist was I bought dinosaur molds and made very cool 3-d dinosaur "cupcakes." You should have seen the faces on the kids in his class when we handed these out -- and then lots of mmmm's and smiles after the first bite! I usually bring in frozen bananas for a healthy, dairy free birthday treat, and although those usually go over great, I know my son was so happy to have a cake option this year.
I have to say this book has turned me back into a cool mom in the eyes of my kids. They can't believe when I ask them if they want to bake something with chocolate as one of the ingredients (I'm usually the fruit smoothie, sorbet, fruit salad dessert maker-- all favorites in our home, but even I enjoy indulging in chocolate!).
Whether your family needs to eat dairy free, or you just prefer it as I do, this book is a must buy!
Book Description
Now you can eat sumptuous desserts that are as healthful as they are delicious, using more whole grain flours, nutritious oils, organic ingredients, and natural sweeteners, without eggs or dairy products. Enjoy sinful chocolate cakes and brownies, comforting fruit pies, baklava, dessert creams and sauces, heavenly frostings and fillings, and refreshing dairyfree ice creams.
Customer Reviews:
do you really want to make vegan desserts?.......2006-06-20
If you really want to make vegan desserts at home, this is a good reference. However, be prepared to shop for hard-to-find, expensive ingredients like arrowroot, kuzu, and agar. Also, I wish the author included approximate times for each recipe, like some of my other cookbooks do. I made the tofu frosting, and even though it was good, it wasn't good enough to justify the two hours it took to make. I think this book is good enough to give it four stars, but I've discovered that, personally, I'd rather just go to a vegan bakery than bother doing it myself.
Amazing!.......2006-02-01
These are some of the best desserts ever. I served the blueberry slump at a dinner party, and my guests were blown away that it was all natural. Go Fran!!!
Good, but not always great........2005-11-11
Fran has really broken some important ground here and offered helpful tips for substitutions and alternatives to the nutritionally pathetic traditional method of dessert making. DO NOT come to this with the expectation of everything tasting like grandma made it -- vegan baking cannot taste exactly like double fudge cake with butter cream icing, nor should it have to. It is tasty in its own way, and once you get used to it, other desserts are overwhelming and unappealing.
Before you read further, however, know that I am not sold on the 0% refined sugar routine because I don't like everything to taste like maple syrup and barley malt, and would rather not spend an arm and a leg to purchase these items over plain old sugar. Fran refers to everything that does not have white sugar as "sugar-free" which is very misleading, inaccurate, and confusing if you don't know what she's referring to. For example, "sugar-free lemonade" (which I thought must just be frozen lemon juice and water?) actually meant organic lemonade sweetened with juices. If the viscosity of the syrup she calls for is necessary, then I will use it, but I ration them out so as not to break the bank.
If you share this mindset, don't dismay -- it is easy to tweak the recipes to allow for some refined sugar. I was seriously impressed with the boston creme pie/cake, which I fed to many dairy-eating carnivores that didn't know it was vegan (and my husband went crazy over it). I was disappointed that the only sugar cookie recipe was wheat-free and nearly inedible (I threw the remainder away after I served them, and vowed never to make something out of here for others without trying it first!). Brownies were amazing, oatmeal cookies were very good (and I tried those using no white sugar), chocolate sauce/glaze made me want to sing and dance.
The "great" recipes in this book are reason enough to buy it, but the good information about successfully baking using the prescribed methods is invaluable (minus the scientific claims and warnings that are presented without reference to any empirically valid source, yet printed as fact).
It is not the most professionally made book (several typos and not aesthetically pleasing), but that doesn't matter to me as long as it's useful. Buy it, peruse it carefully, adapt the techniques, and then use that as a springboard for fashioning your own great good desserts!
Wonderful dessert book!.......2002-07-24
Although I am not a vegan, I do try to limit my dairy. However, dessert is my major weakness. This book is nothing short of fabulous. It taught me how to make healthier desserts, make appropriate subs., etc. She explains all of the uncommon ingredients for those we are new to vegan desserts. I have made a ton of recipes from this book and have not been dissapointed by any! I highly recommend this book.
I am simply blown away.......2002-07-17
This book is brilliant. Of my myriad vegan cookbooks, it's recipes are consistently the best and most thoughtfully presented. Every single recipe I have tried has been mouthwateringly good. Fran (if I may use her name so informally, which only feels natural since I use her cookbook so much) leaves out no details when it comes to baking delectable desserts and provides tons of background information on healthy sugar substitutes and the like. I have made many of these desserts for my family and peers and they too have been shocked that there are no animal products or refined sugars in them. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to vegans and non-vegans alike. I am delighted each time I get the opportunity to make something from it.

BAD BOOK.......2003-03-18
Do NOT buy this book if you care about your rats. This author has no idea what she's talking about. Debbie's books are much more informative.
Very Poorly Researched.......1999-03-07
This book made me very unhappy. The author must not have any pet rats, or her rats would be dead and she would now know NEVER to use wood shavings in their cages. The only wood shavings suitable for rats is aspen, but CareFresh or products made of recylved and sterlized newspapers are best. This along with a lot of other misinformation can kill your pet rat. To learn the truth about pet rats and how to care for them click on Debbie Ducommen's book at the top of the page.
Book Description
In a cave in the Shenandoah National Park, two bodies are discovered, wrapped in the tattered remains of a lover's knot quilt.
In Washington, D.C., Isaac Taylor inherits a nearly identical quilt from a grandmother whose name he never even knew.
After narrowly escaping death, newspaper journalist Kendra Taylor retreats to a cabin nestled in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley to heal and sort out her feelings about her troubled marriage. The land was bequeathed to her husband by a maternal grandmother he never knew, and the cabin has been abandoned for years.
As she is welcomed into the rural community of Toms Brook, Kendra becomes curious about an heirloom lover's knot quilt, which is another piece of Isaac's unexplored past. The unusual quilt clearly has a story to tell, and Kendra is convinced that helping her husband connect with his roots might help him reconnect with her, as well.
At first Isaac's reluctant visits to the cabin only underscore the difficulties in their marriage. But as circumstances force them to piece together a new relationship, Isaac discovers that the history of a family he's never known might hold the key to his future.
As a passionate story of strength, loss and desperation unfolds, the secrets of two quilts are revealed and the threads of an unraveling marriage are secured. In the rich, evocative prose that earned high praise for Wedding Ring and Endless Chain, Emilie Richards crafts the third tale in the Shenandoah Album series, resonant with the power of love and family ties.
Customer Reviews:
The Shenandoah Album Series.......2007-09-27
Emilie Richards has quickly become one of my favorite authors. And this series ranks right up with her other books. If you are a quilter, I think you will enjoy the descriptions of quilting in the past and present, and how the art was woven into the fabric of individual's lives.
Lover's Knot.......2007-09-14
I bought the book for my elderly mother.I have not read it yet but she relly liked the Shenadoah series.
Shenandoah lover's knot unraveled.......2007-06-03
I always look forward to Emilie Richards return to Toms Brook and wasn't disappointed with this newest story. The old characters are here, but mingled in with the Toms Brook family is an intriquing story of a woman searching to find out an answer to her unhappy marriage. She is still in love with her husband but discover that they have gone their separate ways through work and self-absorption. Kendra has undergone a very traumatic event in her life and seeks solace in the isolation of the Toms Brook mountains. Richards weaves her story cleverly around a quilt her husband has inherited and the story it unfolds to effect both of their lives. I was especially intriqued by the history of the Shenandoah National Park and had never realized the heartaches and sorrows that families uprooted from their homes suffered. As always, Richards manages to bring her story to a satisfying end, but I will look forward to her next novel when I can again immerse myself in the lives of the Shenandoah Valley.
This book has it all.......2007-01-15
I loved this book. Having read the first two this one mixed in familiar characters just enough to make you feel like you are seeing another part of the community. The characters were very real to life and shows that misunderstandings happen between people. The storyline about the husband's family was very interesting and well told. It made me want to visit the area. All in all - you have a love story, a mystery, and a story of community. Terrific!
Engrossing ..........2006-10-04
I love quilting books (or books with quilting themes in it). I love Emilie Richard's books simply because she is a thorough writer and she always introduces a new character from a previous book, so you feel like you are among friends. Her books has a way of drawing you into the story ~~ or in this case, a story within a story.
It starts out with Kendra almost losing her life in an attempted carjacking attack. Six months later after extensive therapy, she decides that she needs to go and live in her husband's grandmother's cabin. She takes Isaac's quilt, called The Lover's Knot ~~ with her as well. Isaac remains behind in Washington D.C., and Kendra fearing the end of her marriage, decides to recuperate away from the city and in the mountains. Little did she know that she would find a new home among the citizens that live in the tiny town. And little did she know that she would discover Isaac's grandmother's deep secret.
Isaac was given up for adoption as a child. He didn't have an easy childhood as his adoptive father was mentally abusive. So he didn't want to know anything about his biological family because he thought they were just as bad for giving him up for adoption. Turns out his grandmother Leah had a story and that story haunted two of her friends for years. It talked about being relocated from their home which has been turned over to the government to make a park. It gives a bit of history as well and Leah shares her stories through letters.
It's a bittersweet novel and a very wonderful one. Kendra and Isaac find themselves through history and simple daily life in the country. It's a big contrast to the high-power living in a big city ~~ and very relaxing.
Only Richards can write like this ~~ full of warmth and sunshine and hope. Her novels have always made me curl up on the couch and relax with a cup of tea on hand. It's wonderful, cozy and engrossing. Always.

Lover's Knot, another wonderful resource by Eleanor Burns.......2005-09-03
I love the books Eleanor Burns puts together. My first quilting class was her Quilt In A Day Log Cabin Quilt. She makes the process easy, fun and understandable. This book looks very similar. I took a look through it and I understand now more quickly because of her technique of stripping and keeping it more easily learned and done. Pravo Eleanor Burns and company!!
Book Description
Bestselling author Emilie Richards grew to love quilting while serving as a VISTA volunteer. Now loyal readers can stitch her novels to life, with their own versions of the quilts featured in Lovers Knot, the third book in the Shenandoah Album series. Seven traditional projects echo the fictional quilts from which theyre drawn. Beautiful photography, color diagrams, and complete instructions round out this thoroughly novel approach to quilting.
Customer Reviews:
Great place mats to make.......2005-09-25
These placemats are beautiful. The book is a little oddly written, with chapter heading relating to marriage?!? The directions assume knowledge of strip quilting, and this is an intermediate project. However, if you've done strip quilting before and have a rotary cutter, these placemats are a great project.

Book Description
Mariah Summers has found her dream lover at an old inn in rural Britain, a highwayman from the eighteenth century. But there's one hitch . . . he's a ghost, albeit a lusty one, forever in search of his own true love. The roguish specter of Andrew Domine has haunted the Inn of the Green Dragon for centuries where he has seduced women with coal black hair, at least those that resemble his lost love, Bess. And now he has found Mariah and their nights of passion have nearly rivaled those he once shared with his own black-haired beauty. But their joy is fleeting, for he can only spend four nights in her arms and then he will resume his endless cycle of love and loneliness, forever seeking the woman who sacrified her life to save him.
The ghost's wrath descends upon Mariah when he believes she has betrayed him with another. He curses her to a life without love, a curse that drives her to his modern-day counterpart, a brooding and arrogant Dartmoor financier with a strong appetite for brothels and Irish whiskey. A man who fears love more than he fears death. As they try to find the courage to embrace love once more, an old enemy arises, one with a two-hundred year old score to settle.
Based on Alfred Noyes' tragic poem "The Highwayman."
Customer Reviews:
Passionate 18th century ghost bring 20th century trouble.......2006-02-12
18th century ghost, Andrew Domine has haunted the Inn of the Green Dragon reliving history and spending 4 passionate nights with any black haired Elizabeth [Bess] who stayed in that room. Mystery writer E. Mariah Summers was visiting England and had first hand experience of this ghostly lover. Later she moved to England and through matchmaking friends, meets Dartmoor financier Andrew, a descendant of the ghost. Circumstances and misunderstandings destroy their budding relationship. Plots and intrigues by Andrew's enemy draw both him and Mariah together to fight for their lives and a second chance at love.
The author ties the many segments of the plot together in an engaging fashion. I enjoyed the ghost being ancestors instead of dealing with reincarnation and seeing them through to the end of the tale. The secondary characters all have full love lives and focus within the story. I think this would appeal to those who want a spicier contemporary version of Lynn Kurland's ghost stories.
This is an interesting suspense with randy ghost and outspoken characters. I must admit that 'modern erotic romance' is spicier than I usually read. The seduction scenes in this book definitely rate the erotic label; so I would not recommend it to the more conservative reader. Sexual attitudes and phrases were distracting on occasion. I found myself overlooking 'modern' rough language that I found unromantic but not objectionable. A more Cosmo reader would not note this as difficulty; it is just my personal preferences.

I found a copy of this book in the seat pocket of an airliner so I took it along to read. I enjoyed the book, although I will admit that it had some faults. When I checked in to leave a review I was amazed at the breath of the reviews that had been posted. It occurs to me that you either like this book or you hate it. I guess it comes down to if you will allow the author to suspend reality in order to present the story. When I read paranormal, I not only allow that liberty but come to expect it. There were some outrageous situations in the book but it was interesting to see how the characters react. I feel that the author spends a bit too much time describing some of the character motivations rather than allowing me to experience them, yet that is a just stylistic preference. I liked the complexity of the story as it had a mystery element as well as the romance. All of the main characters were well developed and there were a LOT of minor characters that kept the story moving forward. The pace was well done with all of the plot threads coming together in the final pages of the book. The sexual elements were well handled without being crude or contrived- and yes- there was a lot of sex. (...)
It was a train wreck!.......2004-04-24
I read the whole thing and laughed through most of it. It was poorly plotted and not even close to well-written. As I read it, I just kept thinking 'it has to get better...it can't get any worse!' I was wrong on both counts. She wrote this book based on the poem The Highwayman, but it doesn't really have that much to do with the original story therein. The sex scenes are poorly written and are not really conducive to advancing the story (okay...except maybe one). This book is really good for a laugh. It's kinda like a train wreck - you just can't look away.
Intriguing.......2002-04-24
I found Jana G. Oliver writing style intriguing and the story itself unique; in short, this was not a book that I wanted to put down. While acknowledging the occasional typos in the first printing, the narrative overpowers these and the "steamy" style supports rather than detracts from the plot. This is the perfect book for a rainy afternoon and a box of chocolates. I look forward to seeing more from this author.
Hot and Steamy!.......2002-04-16
I read the book in less than 3 days, which isn't bad considering they were work days! The two main characters (Mariah and Andrew Clare) are very well developed and make you want to really care about them and all that they go through. The supporting cast is well written too (aside from the villian in the story - but I don't think that was the author's point - the rest is too overpowering). Overall, I found myself laughing, crying and dreaming with the entire cast.
A word of warning, there are some typos in the copy (first printing) that I have but think the story overpowers the faulty spell check on the type setters computer.
Finally, without giving anything away the storm and turret scene was a fantasy come true for me and worth the price of the book ten times over! You will have to read it to find out!

Book Description
APS (also known as “sticky blood syndrome”) makes the blood clot too easily. It is often the cause of multiple miscarriages and is potentially fatal. Increasingly common, it threatens to become more prevalent than MS and lupus. This book takes an important look at this dangerously under-diagnosed autoimmune disease and provides medical information, case studies, and patient interviews to help the reader learn to cope.
Customer Reviews:
decent book - worth reading.......2007-08-01
This book contains helpful information for anyone suffering from APS and anyone who wants to understand the disease from a layman's point of view. The index contains some great resources for further research.
Very good for the newly diagnosed.......2007-04-08
This book should be a starting point in the search for answers when diagnosed with APS. I have been diagnosed over 7 years by now, and have found precious little information out there. This book is listed on the APS online support group website. This book is mostly testimonial but I found it is also informative, setting a good foundation for future doctor's office visits, since most doctors don't know much more than we do at this point. Keep in mind that while doctors will be interested in your comparisons to the testimonials in this book, what they will take more seriously is medical journals and articles written by experienced doctors in the field who can confirm what you probably already know.
Really Pulls It All Together.......2006-09-06
I have done a lot of online research regarding APS. While most sites have nice information, it is usually only a page or two, highlighting bits and pieces. This book really pulls it all together, clearly linking symptoms to help define the "big picture" - both historical and forward looking. It is also in an easy to read format that covers a good amount of information without being overwhelming. Nice credibility with the Foreword by Dr. Hughes and Dr. Roubey. This is a must have for APS patients and family!
Excellent!.......2005-11-14
Great book for newly diagnosed patients. Personal stories & easy to read. Was recommended to us as a must have for the APS patient. I agree!
Fairly Good Read.......2005-11-14

Book Description
Who shot down more enemy aircraft in the Battle of Britain than any other fighter pilot? Sgt. Pilot J. H. Lacey. Who shot down the Heinkel 111 which had just bombed Buckingham Palace? Ginger Lacey again. Yet Ginger Lacey was almost unknown outside the RAF because at that time the papers seldom referred to him by name and because his natural modesty made him shun the limelight. He went on to serve as an instructor work on airborne weapons development and command a famous fighter squadron in the Far East. Unorthodox autocratic in his command but resentful of unreasonable interference from those above him Ginger Lacey was a slim pale boyish-looking man with a fantastic gift for leadership sharp eyes bravery and an innate sense of timing. He died in 1989.

I knew this man........2000-04-13
Not yet got to the book, just found it. However, I knew Ginger in Bridlington, England where he taught flying at Grindale aerodrome in the early 80's. A quiet, unassuming man whose flying was as effortless to him as walking. He flew a few times with me and I loved every minute of it. I never knew about his wartime exploits till years later. He never bragged about anything. I'll miss him.
Ginger Lacey.......2000-02-29
The endless courage and luck of this pilot who survived WWII gave me the inspiration to get in to a plane (glider) and fly it when I was 14 years old. After reading the book I never let age stand in the way of taking action.
Readable biography of Battle of Britain unsung hero.......1998-04-01
When you think of the Battle of Britain, what do you think of? Dashing young officers with public school accents flying Spitfires? Well, try reading this book, and discover that one of the finest fighter pilots of the war was an auxiliary pilot from Yorkshire, whose favourite aircraft was the Hurricane. James Harry 'Ginger' Lacey was flying aircraft from the beginning of WWII (winning a Croix de Guerre during the Battle of France) to the end (first Spitfire over Japan) after the surrender. The book is well written and nicely illustrated and gives a fascinating picture of what life was really like for a fighter pilot. Recently updated from the original (published in the 1960s) it also tells of the rest of this man's flying career before his untimely death in 1989. He was a real hero - I should know, he was my Dad!
