Book Description
This book consolidates the common sense philosophy for the average person. This book documents how I think. It includes my views and opinions on things and events that I have experienced throughout life. You may agree or disagree with my views and opinions. ThatÂ's okay. My objective has been to give you something to think about, particularly if you disagree with me. Maybe it will motivate you to document your own philosophy and prepare a similar book.
Over the past 43 years of my educational pursuits, employment, business dealings, community service activities, religious activities, and marriage and family life, I have thought deeply about these areas of focus. As I dreamed, conceptualized, and mentally created original thoughts, I wrote them down in diaries/journals, notebooks, papers, and other documents. This book is a consolidation of all of these thoughts. It is my, an average manÂ's, philosophy of life. I share this philosophy with you.

A No-Ordinary Guy With Ordinary Thoughts.......2003-06-22
The Author, Bob Uda, was born and raised in Hawaii for the first 20 years of his life. From his youthful, barefoot days in Hawaii, he has earned four college degrees; worked in the aerospace, defense, and telecommunications industries; and rose to the top echelons of management. Needless to say, he now wears shoes!

Customer Reviews:
Doesn't really tell you how to get pregnant (without help) - but very useful anyway!.......2007-02-08
Warning!
This bazillion-page hardcover book does NOT tell you how to get pregnant, if what you are picturing is you, dh, some candlelight and a little nookie. The author is a doctor specializing in IVF with ICSI, and if you don't know what those are, this book is a great place to start!
What I disliked intensely:
- Paranoid MALE approach to female reproductive system - "your fertility can run out at any time"
- Hyper-western-medical gung-ho boosterism - "why not go high-tech?!"
- At times reads like an ad for his clinic in St Louis.
- At times reads like sci-fi with his enthusiasm for future applications of reproductive technology.
- Too detailed at times - many sections read like they're meant for doctors or scientists
- Strongly advocates egg donation even for very old parents who may be too old to deal with a newborn (in their late 40s), child (in their 50s) and teenager (in their 60s). (I consider this a bit irresponsible, but I guess that's just my opinion)
- Places too much emphasis (in my opinion) on the value of biological children as opposed, say, to adoptive children; does not present adoption EVER as an alternative to ART...
- Advocates IVF/ICSI (which is what he specializes in) as the one-size-fits-all solution to most couples' fertility problems.
Why it's worth reading anyway:
- Extremely thorough overview of the normal workings of the female body
- Not everyone can conceive easily; here's where to go if you can't
- Proactive approach to knowing where you're at with your biological clock
- Comprehensive guide to ALL reproductive technologies
- Smart, common-sense approach may save you money while you navigate the world of infertility medicine
A few key points stolen from this book:
- Humans (and some apes) are astonishingly infertile compared to other animals - even our sperm are slower
- Most tests for ovarian reserve are worthless! But one quick, easy and non-invasive ultrasound test can tell you conclusively & save years of heartache.
- Most "infertility surgeries" are worthless, including endometriosis (in women) and varicocele (in men)
- Not only are many surgeries worthless, they can diminish or destroy your fertility completely
- Most IUI is worthless - so why waste precious cycles on a technique that is little more effective than basic intercourse (and with less predictable results than IVF/ICSI)?
- Most male factor infertility is NOT A PROBLEM - find out why!
- How to get the best results when reversing vasectomy or tubal ligation
- He advocates not wasting time with tests to find out why you're not conceiving...and skipping straight to IVF with ICSI
- How prenatal genetic diagnosis can prevent miscarriage along with certain genetic diseases
I enjoyed this book despite my many reservations, and would recommend it for anyone who's entangled in their own infertility journey and wants to think about finding hope in ART.
Best I've come across.......2005-11-25
I don't pretend to have read *all* the infertility books in existence, but I have read a fair cross-section of them. I like this book the best because it has information I haven't seen elsewhere, and answered a lot of my questions. He quotes a lot of studies and statistics, which I like better than people who just make pronouncements and expect you to believe it just because it's in print. He has actionable suggestions that I hadn't come across before, like doing a count of your follicles (using ultrasound) to give you a gauge of how many years of fertility you have left, so you can make more informed decisions about pursuing treatment. Overall, I would recommend this book for people who want to be very well-informed and full participants in their treatment. If you don't really want to know the nitty-gritty (certainly not everyone does), this book is not for you.
Dr.Silber has done it again.......2005-11-07
The book like it's previous avatar(edition) is an extremely well written book;useful to the lay people and to the practising physician.Dr. Silber in his usual candid and forthright style has called 'a spade a spade' and denounced wasting time on nonexistent conditions, and unproven therapies.
The book would be a valuable source of information to the lay public and the practising physician.
An invaluable tool for all couples trying to get pregnant!.......2005-11-05
Dr. Silber's book is an invaluable tool for all couples trying to get pregnant. Using clear and easily understandable language, Dr. Silber provides couples with a practical guide to understanding numerous topics including normal reproductive variation, effects of age, and potential treatments or medical procedures.
How to Get Pregnant.......2005-11-05
Dr. Sherman was the very first infertilitly doctor we saw and we couldn't believe he lived right here in St. Louis!!! We went to him in September and I was pregnant with twins in December, need I say more. The man is a genius, his books are too!!!!

Customer Reviews:
Awesome!.......2006-11-19
When I saw this book at Jo-Ann's I had to have it, I used my 50% off coupon and bought it right away. This book has 16 different patterns for scarves, and I can honestly say that I will probably make them all. They are very original patterns. I like that this book incorporates lots of novelty yarns. There is also a pattern that uses the bloom loom, and one that uses the hairpin lace technique...very original. I also like that this book uses a lot of different price points for yarns....there are patterns that use less expensive yarns like the lion brand yarns, and there are patterns that use the pricier yarns like the Classic Elite brands. I also like that with each pattern they will show you alternate color ways, or alternate types of yarns that would work as well. It has really inspired me to try a lot of the neat novelty yarns that are out. I have already made one scarf (and I just bought the book last night), and have the yarns purchased to make 4 more of the scarves. Great Book!
Disappointed!!!.......2006-04-11
I was looking for a crochet book for scarves and I though finally, something nice, Plus Candi Jenson has the Crochet for tots book which I have which has some really cute things for babes/tots. This book as you go through the photos which are colourful, it seems almost like the same stitch different yarn and nothing to keep your eye lingering over either. No soft looking photos or that yummy yarn that make you want to run out and buy. ONly 1 scarf that half decent but not enough to motivate me to buy, If you are an avid corcheter and looking for something nice..[sadly shake head, this is not the book!!}
Great!.......2006-03-01
The scarves in this book are so cool! I can't wait to make them for all my friends.
16 great projects, lots of fun designs and techniques!.......2005-11-04
Oh, this book is just pure fun! If you doubt me, turn to page 63 where you'll find the fabulous "Flapper Flashback" scarf, a roaring '20s-inspired crocheted dazzler made from worsted-weight ribbon and novelty yarns. Or try the "Classic Hairpin Lace" scarf of peach-colored worsted-weight ribbon yarn, or the "Easy Argyle" with preppy diamond motifs.
Altogether you'll find 16 patterns for hip crocheted scarves in colors and styles to suit every taste. Even traditional granny squares are updated with a fresh look, and you can make some wonderfully asymmetrical flower motifs with crocheted circles.
I love the "Throat Warmer," "Bits and Pieces" and "Ripple Effect" multicolored scarf. The instructions are easy to follow and the author provides lots of fun variations on each pattern, too.

Customer Reviews:
A 'must' for people interested in edible wild plants.......2004-06-13
My only regret about this book is that it isn't longer!
The plants are organized by season, and every plant has a small map to show what regions it grows in. There is a very nice, good sized picture of each plant, and most of them are in color. Information is also provided about harvesting, how to prepare the plant, and poisonous look alikes, if any.
The plants are listed by their common names, but the latin names are listed as well. Plants can be located by either name in the index.
If you are interested in edible wild plants, this book is a great value for a reasonable price.
Learning Edible Plants.......2002-10-07
This books shows, in an easy to understand format-in my opinion-a person how to identify wild edible plants that they can harvest (some even in their own backyard). It shows photos of the plants, tells you if there is a poisonous look alike plant, how to identify them, common locations of the plants, and how to prepare them for a meal. If someone wants to learn more about eating plants that grow in the wild, this book is the one I think should be in their library.
Only Fair for Identification.......2002-09-07
Identification of edible species is what I want, with emphasis on the first word. From my experience in identifying tree species and other plant ID handbooks, I'd call this one mediocre. The photos are often close-ups with no indication of scale, so size is unknown. Details are not included. Root structure and overall plant structure are seldom shown. ID often depends on flowers, present only for a few weeks of the year. Variation among species is so widespread that I'd recommend at least two good books, with better illustrations than those found here. Drawings, though not "natural", often provide better clues to identity by showing roots, structure, etc.
Good.......2002-05-21
Eating what you find in the wild can be a life saver. Learn about plants, not just N. American, but any place in the world that you might be called to serve.
From our garden.......2002-05-01
We have found many edible plants near our house -- we call it "Heaven's Garden."
Customer Reviews:
A must own for the rural person who eats wild foods.......2004-07-11
What makes this book rare and most useful is the listings are by the four seasons as well as habitat or areas grown or found in, so you know when to actually look for a specific plant. There is a small symbol next to each plant to show you how the plant can be utilized, like foraging for food, medicinal etc. I also like that the book covers look alike, since this may well save your life. The graphics used etc are superb. And the recipes are useful. This is one of those books any self sufficient rural or mountain person will own and use.

An indispensable legal guide, financial planner, and organizer for your journey through pregnancy and into parenthood
There are dozens of good books telling you what you need to know about the physical and emotional aspects of having a baby. But until now there were none devoted to the many financial and legal concerns of expectant parents, issues such as: "What are my rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act?" "Can the hospital run tests on my newborn without my permission?" "Should I take out a life insurance policy on my newborn?"
Written by family law attorney Brette McWhorter Sember, this book answers all those questions and more. Your Practical Pregnancy Planner:
- Fills you in on what you need to know about everything from maternity leave to estate planning, pregnancy discrimination to cord blood banking
- Features a handy, month-by-month format that provides you with the answers you need, as you need them
- Includes valuable links to organizations, agencies, and websites for expecting and new parents
Customer Reviews:
Valuable Information.......2007-07-27
This book has provided a wealth of information. It's not a "what to expect" type book about your body and the developing baby, but rather a planner for finances, insurance coverage, disability leave, wills, your rights and much more. It's basically the stuff you know you should be thinking about, but are too excited about the baby and what's going on with your body to stop and plan for the practical stuff. This book breaks down the information into manageable monthly checklists. If you follow her month to month guidance, you will have less to worry about when the baby arrives knowing you have all your ducks in a row.
Your Practical Pregnancy Planner.......2007-01-03
I wish I had this book during my pregnancy beside all those other books that just relate to being pregnant. I think everyone who is becoming a parent for the first time should read this book.
A Must Have Baby Book.......2005-10-05
Unlike other baby and pregnancy guides, Sember's Your Practical Pregnancy Planner is a no-nonsense book that covers the other things that expectant parents need to know. From how to afford kids to setting up legal trusts, Sember's approach to pregnancy 101 is an easy read that will open many people's eyes.
all-in-one resource.......2005-10-03
Sember's easy-to-read book is the perfect choice for a worried first-time mom: You can relax and forget researching every detail of your pregnancy on the internet by instead following Sember's month-by-month guides. She's got everything covered: Want to know whether to pack your contacts in your hospital bag? Check out pg. 33. Flying during the third trimester? She's got tips for that, too.
Best of all, Sember is a retired family law attorney; that, plus her no-nonsense writing style, make me very comfortable recommending this book for first-time moms.
A Great Practical Guide for Expectant Parents.......2005-09-20
Your Practical Pregnancy Planner is a must-have book if you're expecting a baby, or planning to get pregnant. It's filled with down-to-earth practical advice on your legal rights, your finances and your lifestyle, set out in a handy month-by-month structure that will help you take care of the important things that need to be done during this exciting period in your life.
Each month covers the legal issues, financial issues and lifestyle issues which are best tackled in that particular month, and ends with a convenient checklist of things that need to be done. The book also includes chapters on labor, delivery, and postpartum care, and parenthood.
Going through this book, there were definitely things that I had waited to do until after each of my babies were born which would have been much easier (and far less stressful) to do if I had tackled them in the timeframe suggested by Sember. There were also things that I hadn't even thought about during my pregnancies which, naturally, surfaced and demanded time and attention later, when I really didn't have any time or attention left for anything but taking care of my new little arrival.
From legal issues like preparation of a birth plan and evaluating your pregnancy leave options, to financial matters such as taking care of life insurance and creating a financial cushion, to lifestyle concerns including buying maternity clothes, organizing the nursery and buying a breast pump, Sember covers the many details that can seem overwhelming if left to the last minute or until after your baby is born. First time parents, especially, are usually very surprised by the total lack of time (and sleep) they experience once they're holding their beautiful babies in their arms.
The Practical Pregnancy Planner is a unique book that will definitely help you get through this exciting but sometimes chaotic time. Ultimately, it's a book that will get expectant parents organized and more in control now, so they can enjoy their time with their new babies later. Highly recommended.

Book Description
Owen Glendower is John Cowper Powys' brilliant re-imagining of the life and exploits of Wales's national hero.
It is the year 1400, and Wales is on the brink of a bloody revolt. At a market fair on the banks of the River Dee a mad rebel priest and his beautiful companion are condemned to be burned at the stake. To their rescue rides the unlikely figure of Rhisiart, a young Oxford scholar, whose fate will be entangled with that of Owen Glendower, the last true Prince of Wales-a man called, at times against his will, to fulfill the prophesied role of national redeemer. Psychologically complex, sensuous in its language, vivid in its evocation of a period shrouded by myth, Owen Glendower tells a compelling story of war, love, and magic.

Book Description
In this lively interdisciplinary study, Elissa R. Henken combines the tools of the historian and the folklorist to explore the development of a powerful, polysemous cultural symbol. Owain Glyndwr, called Owen Glendower by Shakespeare, led the last major armed rebellion of the Welsh against the English in the early fifteenth century. He has become an important symbol of modern Welsh nationalism. Henken examines the roles Glyndwr played both in his own lifetime and in subsequent centuries.

Book Description
Historical Fiction. In Welsh mythology "to swear a destiny" upon anyone was to deliver that person, for good or ill, into the hands of that ageless and inexorable mistress: Fate. A Destiny is Sworn is a story about Fate. It tells of Wales in the early years of the 15th century: of the national uprising of the great Welsh leader, Owain Glyndwr - of a world of bards, bawds, warriors, monks, prophets, matriarchs, heroes and fools; of dreams, ideals, great causes, dazzling victories, shattered hopes, depraved politics and deeds of high emprize. Above all, it gives the live and loves of one particular family: the children of Sir Tudor ap Grono, a chieftain of Ynys Mon (the Isle of Anglesey). Known to their countrymen as the Men of Eden, they would emerge from the crucible of war in their native land to give another name to one of the leading dynasties of Europe: the Tudors.

Owen Glendower, Welsh Hero!.......2003-06-06
This is the story of the larger-than-life hero of the Welsh, Owen Glendower. The story takes place in the late 14th and early 15th centuries. The story is told by several narratives of main characters in the novel such as: Geoffrey Chaucer, Lady Hanmer of Flintshire-later his wife, Griffith Lloyd-Owen's bard among other characters. Owen is the last Welsh Prince of Wales with a personality and physical presence that is striking for a man, from what was considered a wild and subject courntry of England.
He struggles with his desire for peace while at the same time he wages war on England to recognize Wale's independence. A complex, exciting story of a man who would be king of Wales, but really didn't want to.
This is an out-of-print books, however I found a copy easily enough, and is well worth the effort and time to read. Like all of Rofheart's books they are narratives of several characters, some historical, others fictional.
