Book Description
Author Gary Brown brings to life a thorough and insightful analysis of this controversial and sometimes misunderstood historical figure, whom most remember as the commander who lost twice as many men as were killed at the Alamo and San Jacinto combined. Now the story can be completely examined with the help of all Fannin's known correspondence during the campaign at Goliad. Read and judge for yourself if history has been fair to James Walker Fannin.

Customer Reviews:
It worked in 4 days!.......2007-06-14
We never thought that our very strong willed daughter, who adored her paci, would give it up without a fight. Four days after we rec'd this book in the mail, she was ready to give her pacifiers to a neighbor's baby. That was it. No struggle, no fight. I give this book my highest recommendation!!!
good springboard for getting rid of the pacifier.......2006-11-11
My almost three year old loved his pacifier. He only used it at night, but it was still hard to convince him to give it up completely. We read this book night after night for weeks and finally one day he was ready. It was a easy transition, but it was made easier by the book.
Sweet, but hard to follow.......2006-03-18
I purchased this book because not only had we just visited the dentist and he suggested we get rid of the pacifier, but also we have a friend who just recently had a baby and we had the idea of trying to convince our little guy to give his pacifier to t e newborn! So this book seemed like a perfect fit! The only problem is that the steps for giving up the pacifier are pretty vague, and hard to follow. When I read this book to him I find that I add in a lot more details than the author provided. If you don't mind doing that, then this would be a good buy for you. Overall it is a sweet story that my son can relate to at this point in his life.
A very helpful book.......2006-02-22
Our daughter is turning three next month and we have tried to leverage all sorts of plans and bribes to get the pacifier away from her. Everything we came up with would be welcomed at first but ultimately questioned by her two year old's logic. This book has provided a unique/safe way to help demonstrate how others can phase out the pacifier over a period of time. She identifies with LB in the book and has actually suggested we send her "dee-dee" to a friend's newborn. I would highly recommend it for those at the same stage but wonder if it would have been as effective any earlier in the process.
Helpful.......2005-02-08
This is one of several books I have read with my 3 year old granddaughter about letting go of the pacifier. I found this one most helpful in that it really does outline a sort of plan for giving it up. After we finished reading it the first time, my granddaughter was deep in thought, and then came to me later with her own version of "The Plan" which she has more or less adhered to.

Very good book!.......2006-05-29
I've been borrowing Asian books from the library and even owning some but all of them is a hit or miss -NOT THIS ONE. Although Im relying on the users' reviews for every recipe, I just tried several dishes on this book and its a hit!
I am actually proud of doing Indian dishes, Thai dishes and even Singaporean from this book and get a very good reaction from my husband who is a picky eater. I told him about the book and he agreed this book has tasty recipes!
Favorite Cookbook.......2006-03-11
My daughter bought this book years ago at Sam's Club. I thought she was spending money necessarily. Then I tried a couple of the recipes and immediately bought one for me and for each of my older children. Every recipe we have tried has been wonderful, and a few are my very favorite dishes to make.
My Favorite Cookbook!.......2005-01-24
This book is wonderful! For one thing, I'm the worse cook in the world, but every recipe I have tried in this book has turned out just perfect!! I bought in on the strength of it's gorgeous layout and appetizing photographs, which do nothing but add to the overall quality. Usually, I don't like to cook, and my cooking reflects it, but I am having a blast with this book. The variety of recipes cover many Asian countries, even some more obscure and lesser known ones. Most of the ingredients are readily available in my supermarket (though not all), but enough to allow me to try most of these recipes. The recipes are rated for difficulty as "easy", "medium" or "harder", and as a non-cooker, I find the "easy" recipes a breeze. Each entry will also tell you how much time is required for preparation, marinating and for cooking, so it helps you plan, and you know what you are getting into even before you start. The ingredients are listed in commone Western units, often listing Metric and Imperial measurements at the same time which is a great help and really helps you visualize what you will need. Ingredients are listed in the order that you need them, which also makes getting organized easy. I find the flavors subtle and authentic. I was worried about too spicy dishes, but nothing has been too hot for me so far. And if it is too hot, I can always adjust the spices.
My only complaint is that the book, being from Australia, uses some cooking terminology is a bit odd, but I have been able to figure most of it out. Pork mince is obviously ground pork, and I think that an "egg slice" (turn pancake over with egg slice) is a spatula. A lot of recipes call for cornflour, which I take to be cornstarch. I have been using cornstarch in all recipes calling for cornfloor, and everything has turned out perfect. Whether you like to cook or not, I guarantee that this book will thrill you! This book is turning me into someone who actually enjoys cooking!
Good collection to have.......2004-11-09
Since I am Chinese and have much interest in asian cooking, I thought this cookbook is a good start for people who aren't familiar with Asian food but want something more "authentic". Tried a few recipes and it turned out great! Have to say that it's hard to get some of the ingredients depend on which part of US you're living in.
Westernized ingredient lists are incomplete, inaccurate.......2003-11-16
I received this book for my birthday because I had it on my Amazon wish list. I like it fine, but I think the recipes were not tested thoroughly in regards to their ingredient lists. For one thing, some dishes are missing what I consider the defining flavor/ingredient, like omitting star anise from the Vietnamese beef noodle soup (pho) recipe. I just about fell off my chair when I saw that...star anise IS pho. My mother is Vietnamese, so I've had plenty of pho in my lifetime to know this. Ironically, there's a picture of star anise on the page that introduces the Vietnamese section.
I also think there should've been red onion and Thai basil in the Thai beef salad recipe. Lastly, the Singapore noodle dish came out a bit bland because the recipe called for way too many noodles and not enough seasoning. I didn't even use the full amount of noodles -- it called for roughly 9.5 oz., I used 8 oz. I had to add a lot more extra seasoning during the last stage of cooking, and by then the meat had overcooked.
The book also has the annoying habit of integrating prep instructions with regular instructions. Anyone who knows anything about Asian cooking understands that prep is 90% of the work -- you need to have everything sliced, diced, marinated, because you toss it all together very quickly when cooking. Although each recipe has estimated prep and cooking times, it wasn't clear to me what the authors considered prep vs. cooking.
This book is good for someone who already knows how to cook and is just getting their feet wet with Asian cooking. It's also good for cooks who don't have the access or knowledge to some of the harder-to-find ingredients. You swap authentic taste for convenience, however. Also, it's a bummer that I feel I now have to second-guess the recipes where ingredients and measurements are concerned.

The Essential Asian Cookbook.......2002-12-10
I love this cookbook! It explains ingredients, methods, and regions. Now, when we have a great Asian meal out, my kids and husband will ask me to make it at home and I can! The pictures get me excited about the food and the rating system lets me know how hard or easy it is to make. It's great.
THE essential Asian Cookbook.......2002-10-25
Wow. This book covers the basics for all Asian countries from Indonesia to Thailand to Korea to even Indian and Pakistan. I've travelled extensively through Asia and was surprised to find a book that contained so many of my favorite local recipes. There are colorful pictures on every page too which really helps bring the food to life for those who may not be familiar with Asian cooking. The only drawback to this book is that some recipes contain ingredients that can only be found in Asian markets and it doesn't offer an alternative ingredient that could be easier to find.
Mouthwatering feast of the senses.......2002-10-23
This is by far the best Asian cookbook in the world! Covering all cuisines you can think of, jam packed full of glossy pictures and sound advice, an ideal addition to any cook's shelf.
Easy to follow, beautiful pictures, delicious recipes.......2001-08-21
I prefer cookbooks with pictures of the food so that I have a better idea of what I am actually making. This cookbook has lots of beautiful pictures, the recipes are easy to follow, and they also give a timeframe for preparation and cooking so you don't wind out starting something a little more difficult on a weeknight. I followed most of the recipes exactly, with a few exceptions. Since my husband is allergic to fish, I do not use fish oil and I substitute chicken for fish in some cases. I also do not have a mortor and pestle so I cheat and use a spice grinder. Still, the recipes came out just delicious, and I love the different regional dishes available. This book gives excellent examples from many different asian regions. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Great book at a great price.......2007-09-23
Love this book. All of the recipes are easy to follow and include nutritional information per serving. There is also a glossary in the beginning, complete with pictures, of all the supplies and ingredients necessary for Asian cooking. Each chapter gives a selection of recipes from each of the Asian countries. At $9.99 it is a great value.

Great resource!.......2005-09-16
I am using this resource with homeschool Pre to 2nd grade children. This coloring book helps Greece come to life with pictures of markets, shipping, a wedding, several different tradesmen at their trade, children playing, senate, theater, school, ect...
One warning, four pages (out of roughly 45 pictures) have nudity: two of Olympic games and one gym (tastefully covering the front, but showing male backsides) and then one of a topless dancing/acrobatic girl at a party. I choose to scan them, in order to give them clothing.
Other content: there are solider scenes with weapons bristling, but only two battle scenes (one on water and one on land). For battle scenes both are tasteful, even for younger dc. It also includes about four pages of religious ceremonies/scenes, including the oracle at Delphi.
Overall an excellent resource; very well done!!
Coloring Ancient Greece.......2002-01-26
I like this coloring book for children because it will help bring lessons on Ancient Greece to life and reinforce basic facts. It is organized primarily by chronology, has fairly complex drawings with enough detail and background for interest, and most significantly contains a brief historical note at the bottom of each picture. It includes highligts like Solon introducing reforms, Hipparchus being assasinated, Socrates being found guilty and condemned to death and Aristotle tutoring young Alexander. It also includes more general topics like weddings and funerals, the market, shipping and more. There is some male nudity (not frontal) like at the Gymnasium and Olympics. There is some incorporation of Greek mythology (like sculpting of a statue of Hermes, and consulting an oracle at Delphi.) Note, however, the art is not done in Ancient Greek style, but rather more realistic, scene by scene.
This is good for any grade schooler or even a high schooler who still likes to color. The covers and inside covers have art which are the colored scenes of ones found in the book, so there is also some direction or incentive to make the art come to life.
Useful alone or with a curriculum.
Great Resource.......2000-06-14
I use the Dover coloring books often as I home school. The kids are busy, quiet AND they listen. It really helps to reinforce the lessons when they color the same things that they are learning about. There is a Dover book for most major subjects!

An Answer to My Prayers.......2000-09-14
I was tired of wading through thick gardening books trying to find information about zones 4 and 5 plants and falling in love with interesting plants, only to discover that they only grow in Florida or Hawaii! Now, I have one book that covers all the basics for my area. I have often thought about writing to the author to express my appreciation, but perhaps this review will do until I actually get around to accomplishing that.
The photographs (yes, real photographs, not just illustrations!) are great and the information is presented in a format that makes looking for specifics easy as can be.
I'm a novice gardener, and our home is only six years old, so we have been trying to put in some new vegetation each year. It helps me make decisions on what kinds of plants to purchase and where to place them in the yard.
The book also gives you care instructions, which are handy for maintaining the plants. For instance, I've learned that I can shear back my phlox in midsummer to prevent them from looking ragged.
I also use the last few blank pages to make notes to keep track of plants and page numbers that particularly impressed me. I like the book because it's basic, not exotic. I have been able to enter a garden center and ask for plants in this book and they are either in stock or easily ordered without any problem.
This book is my gardening Bible!
a "must-have".......2000-06-07
for any gardener's library. A great reference tool for anyone attempting to grow a nice garden despite the Midwest's unpredictable weather. Concise reviews of the plants most common to this region, with wonderful photos. Would like to see an expanded version with more unique and lesser-known plants for the adventurous gardener.

Buy it, then read it, and you'll never look at your health the same way again!.......2006-08-15
This is the book that could change your life. Honest. If you suffer from arthritis, allergies, Herpes, are HIV positive, have asthma or CFIDS or any other chronic illness, this book will change the way you look at your health. Western medicine only wants to suppress the symptoms- this book is about cures! So much of what happens within our bodies is due to sensitivities (or allergies) to anything from shellfish to our own hormones. Once those allergies are cured (YES, they can be cured), your no-longer-distracted immune system will be able to act more normally. I am currently being cleared of my allergies (by my acupuncture doctor) using the methods in this book. I was alergic to paper, red wine, animal dander, my DNA, my hormones, smoke, and a whole host of other things. Halfway through the six week process, my weight is dropping and I'm breathing through my nose. And there's still more improvement to come. Read this book, and trust me, your life will change for the better.
This book will change your life!.......2003-05-06
This book will change your life for the better and your health will never be the same. This book impowered me to eliminate my own allergies and those of friends and family permanately. The author explains in her book by using simple spinal stimulation we can reprogram our immune system to longer react to substances we are treating (dust, mold, foods, etc.).
Excellent.......2000-02-08
A highly intelligent overview of many illness that are directly or indirectly connected to allergies. What struck me most was the way the author shows a truly deep understanding of the complex causes of each illness and yet offers meaningful treatment options. It should be noted that the book is primarily intended as an introduction (though it goes further than any introduction) to using NAET - a particular type of allergy desensitisation. NAET is quite revolutionary in its approach and the combination of insight into disease and intelligent treatment options makes this book a winner for anyone with immune disorders. So much more sophisticated (though easy to understand) than the vast majority of books on immune disorders/allergies out there.
A necessity for anyone with allergies or immune disorders.......1999-07-23
Although a bit wordy, Dr. Cutler's book is an necessity for anyone with allergies or immune disorders, especially those undergoing NAET accupuncture therapy. Dr. Cutler supplies numerous case studies, many examples far more severe than the person who reads the book, but helpful when assessing one's condition and also fairly interesting. I have found the book to be an excellent guide when following the protocol for clearing one's self of food allergies along with NAET accupuncture. I also recommend this book to someone who is interested in alternative medicine, or to the person who is considering accupuncture but is timid of undergoing treatment without research beforehand.
Book Description
Inspired by a primitive way of life, Paul Gauguin came to reject the world of the Impressionists, leaving Parisian society in search of paradise. Explore the life of this 19th-century French artist through his astonishingly vibrant and exotic paintings. The DK ArtBook series presents both the life and works of each artist within the cultural, social, and political context of their time. To make the books easy to consult, they are divided into three areas -- the life and works of the artist, historical and cultural background, and analysis of major works -- which are identifiable by side bands. Each spread focuses on a specific theme, with an introductory text and several annotated illustrations. Few art history texts contain such abundance of full-color illustrations. The index section is also illustrated and gives background information on key figures and the location of the artist's works.

Informative--great for students.......2001-01-25
Well, I won't waste your time. The bottom line-- is this book is worth buying. Its got great insight on many of Gauguin's paintings, and even discusses his background and influences. A must for any art student, or art buff. Your money will not be wasted! For ten bucks, you'll be buying a book you'll use time and time again. Good luck, and happy book buying!

Book Description
1921. Eugene Henri Paul Gauguin was a French stockbroker who painted as a hobby. He was associated with Pissarro and Cezanne and in 1883, Gauguin began to devote himself to painting. He developed the synthetism style, and emphasized the conceptual method of representation, while using pure color and bold lines. While in his studios in Tahiti and the Marquesas Islands, he sent back wonderfully colorful and brilliant canvases. To this day, Gauguin is considered the foremost post-Impressionist French painter.
