With the possible exception of George S. Patton, is there a 20th century military figure who fascinates us as does Douglas MacArthur? Hero of Leyte, military genius, youngest brigadier general in World War I, MacArthur had a brilliant mind and an eye for self-promotion. This latest biography, utilizing substantial new research, makes a strong case for MacArthur's leadership abilities and his fierce independence without neglecting MacArthur's shortcomings as a man and as a tactician. Perret concludes that the landing at Inchon, which turned U.S. fortunes around in the Korean War, was one of the boldest and best-executed military invasions in history.
Book Description
In the first cradle-to-grave biography of MacArthur in nearly 20 years, Perret reveals new information and offers fresh insights into this landmark figure of American history. From his obsessive interest in becoming the most highly decorated soldier in American history to his disastrous flirtation with presidential politics, MacArthur is revealed, warts and all. of photos.

Truman Was Right -- Yet, MacArthur Still Was My Hero........2006-12-01
From my earliest memories, General Douglas MacArthur has always been my number one hero. My soldier dad gave me a little paste statue of MacArthur, America's 'Caesar,' which I could hold in my hand. For me, it was important that he married a Tennessee woman. For another, he had the gawl to stand up to the President of the United States who demoted him and forced him to come home to the United States, where the public took his side and gave him a ticker tape parade down Broadway in New York City. Doug was a major general during the World War II for the allies, and being an American was there to represent our country first and foremost. However, like any person can be, he was lured into being an important personage in the Philippines government as an advisor. He had his cake and ate it too.
The whole country here tought that President Truman was out of his mind to talk to our hero the way he did, and MacArthur used rhetoric and politics in his going away speech that "Old Soldiers Never Die, They Just Fade Away" and his foolish declaration that "I Shall Return," It was as though he had turned his back on the American people and we were fools enough not to know what he was doing. President Truman did know and made an executive decision that the double-dealing had to stop. Apparently, FDR (Roosevelt) had let things get out of control and MacArthur made the most of it.
For more than sixty years now, he has been my hero. When my son Justin had to ask his parents who their hreoes were for a class project, his teacher was shocked at the name of mine -- as I am a woman. He probably throught it might be Eleanor Roosevelt had I been interested in politics or the war, or Queen Elizabeth who was newly crowned and I admired. But, no, it was the cause of Douglas MacArthur which gave me the backbone to stand and say what is right and righteous, to be fair to all and not allowing inferiors to take the jobs of people who are more qualified. That's the Affirmative Action Ammendment which kept my PHD son from getting many jobs in the 1980s. It was hurtful to the intelligent, trained young people who could do the jobs. Instead, like MacArthur in the Philippines where he did return (I do like a man who keeps his word.), it is double dealing and putting the wrong people in the wrong jobs. And I don't mean electing those with money. I'm talking about putting uneducated, ignorant people in government jobs who make decisions for all of us, and they don't know what they are doing. They are not qualified.
MacArthur should never have been double dealing and his failing was insubordination. He had such an adoring reputation for being stern and forceful as an American General. But now the truth will out and we know just how "old" he was, not in years, but in nonconformity and by not going God's will. That was his downfall.
Good, not great book on the General........2006-07-25
Obviously, the right starting place for MacArthur would be William Manchester's book. However, this one does not disappoint. As a matter of fact, of all Perret's books, this one is most likely the best, despite its flaws. Our subject is the greatest military mind this country has ever produced.
Was Gen. MacArthur an egomaniac? Yes, name me a general who wasn't. But in America's 'brief' history, you will not find a more intelligent, and courageous officer than this man. During WWI, his personal bravery and daring led to seven Silver Stars. During WWII, he lost less men in the southwest Pacific in four years of fighting, than Gen. Eisenhower did at the Battle of the Bulge alone! During the Korean war, at seventy years of age, his offensive at Inchon was the height of audacity and planning. He wrote Japan's postwar constitution, he is also revered by many Japanese to this day.
All in all, his career is enough to make one say, "Patton who?"
EXCELLENT STARTING PLACE FOR THE STUDY OF MACARTHUR.......2005-02-27
As several reviewers pointed out, this book has a few flaws. I do feel some of the criticisms hurled are a bit off the mark. This is a one volume book. There is absolutly no way a completely comprehensive sudy of this man could be accomplished in such a short space. For a one volume work though, it is very, very good. Yes, you can disagree as to the actual greatness of the man, as reflected in the various stages of his life, but the author has at least presented to us a starting point. This work, along with others, gives us a good picture of Macarthur the soldier and the man. Recommend you read this one.
An interesting, well written book.......2003-01-14
I enjoyed this book very much. Although long and detailed, I found its style engaging and well organized. It's an easy read. Being able to turn dense historical material into such an interesting book is a triumph.
Writing a biography of a controversial personality like MacArthur is challenging and, overall, I think Perret has done a good job. It's too easy to fall in love with your subject and the author is able to resist the temptation to hurruh too much.
I think, however, that there are a few areas, where the author seems to accept behaviors that are questionable and problematic. Into his assertion of MacArthur's greatness he never really factors in MacArthur's overly emotional temperament nor his lack of veracity. There is space for further debate here that I think the author missed.
To people who history is a avocation & not a vocation,.......2002-10-05
the life of Douglas MacArthur is known but in fairly broad strokes. For 688 pages (31 hrs on cassette) Mr. Parett fills in the blanks.
First he spends sometime on Arthur MacArthur, Douglas MacArthur's father & hero. This first Gemeral MacArthur was quite an important historical figure himself. Everything Douglas did in his life he measured against his father & the standards he had set.
Many biographies deal with just his involvement is World War II, Korea & maybe World War I. This whole life biography covers his West Point years, the Phillipines, Vera Cruz, Mexico, & his pre-World War I relationship with General Pershing & his mistress.
It is apparent that even one large volume gives brevity to MacArthur's life but Mr. Parrett does an excellent job. He also seems to have a slight bias towards MacArthur. He takes MacArthur's side in most instances except after Inchon when his judgement became questionable. But he does not shrink from his faults such as his huge ego, thin skin, inability to take advice or criticism & his foolhardy courage. Many times these character faults actually served him. His daily routine in the many places he served, his women, his only son, the many military leaders, presidents of many countries & his feelings about them are covered in this book.
A very complex man we were lucky to have as Supreme Commander in the Pacific. The Japanese were lucky to have him as their virtual ruler during the occupation of Japan. We were lucky again to have him in Korea--to a point. Inchon was the crowning achievement of his career. If he had died at that point he never would have descended to the status of mere mortals. His legend would have grown forever. His fall was swift & sad.
We were also lucky that he never became president. He toyed with the idea of running in 1944, 1948 & 1952. By 1951 he had not set foot on the mainland of the United States for 14 years. He was hopelessly out of touch with the people of the United States by that time.
I didn't know that FDR coined the phrase "dugout Doug".

Old soldiers never die.......2006-03-04
It's without doubt the best memoir written by a common soldier since Mark Twain's "Private history of a campaign that failed". I had the paperback Ballantine Books edition in the 1960's but lost it. I've seen copies of this edition sold through amazon recently for over $100. Right now, it's not available here, but a new edition IS AVAILABLE,and can be ordered from Naval&militarypress.com in England, along with Richards other book "Old soldier sahib". Both are around 10 pounds each (about $18) excluding shipping. Reading Frank Richards personal memories of his life in the Royal Welch Fusiliers during WWI and earlier in Burma & India is a super treat. He was quite a character.
Ironic, perhaps unintentionally.......2003-03-01
I read Frank Richards story, apparently a chapter from this book, "The Third Battle of Ypres 1917" in the Mammoth Book of True War Stories (now in print) and you have to be impressed by the man's style--sort of like the naturalists (Steven Crane comes to mind), but also either intentionally or unintentionally ironic. A masterpiece of prose. Recommended.
A wonderful account........2001-12-23
Frank Richards was a member of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, from 1901 until the end of the war. He displays a natural ability for story telling, in this wonderful account of a regular old soldier. It is amazing to note that this story would probably never have been published if he had not known the famous writer Robert Graves, whom he had served under in the trenches, he even mentions Graves as well as another famous member of the Regiment: Siegfried Sassoon. He sent the whole rough draft to Graves in longhand, who then edited it and got it published, as he recognized what a true gem he had. It has been intimated that Robert Graves actually rewrote much of the text as we now see it, though it has never been proven. Though punctuated with grim moments of death and destruction, it is an uncomplaining account, a testament to Mr. Richard's indomitable spirit and pride for his regiment, though he wryly recounts that after the war he had trouble adapting to civilian life, providing a couple of well written examples. The number of times he narrowly escaped death or injury makes it unbelievable that he survived the entire war virtually unscathed. There are moments when men all around him would perish, or he would leave an area just as it was shelled. A must read for those with even the slightest interest in World War 1. This book flows smoothly and never jumps, a steady good read. We are fortunate that this book was published, as accounts of regular soldiers are few and far between, especially those of this caliber. He followed this account with a prequel entitled "Old Soldier Sahib" another excellent memoir. I highly recommend this book to all.
First class account of WW1 by a British soldier........1998-09-09
First class account by a man who served as a soldier and NCO throughout WW1 on the Western Front. Even more interesting as he served in the same infantry unit as Graves and Sassoon. An unvarnished account from the view of a long service professional soldier of some of the most momentous events of the war. A good counterpoint to some of the more tragic/romantic accounts of the war.

THE DETROIT NEWS
When Joan Frances Casey "awoke" on the ledge of a building ready to jump, she did not know how she had gotten there. And it wasn't the first time she had blanked out. She decided to give therapy another try. And after a few sessions, Lynn Wilson, an experienced psychiatric social worker, was shocked to discover that Joan had MPD--Multiple Personality Disorder. And as she came to know Joan's distinct selves, Lynn uncovered a nightmarish pattern of emotional and physical abuse, including rape and incest, that nearly succeeded in smothering the artistic and intellectual gifts of this amazing young woman.

Flock:The Autobiography of a Multiple Personality.......2007-01-12
Struggling with being a multiple myself, it was helpful to read about another person's struggles and how they dealt with these issues. I wish there were more autobiographies of this kind, it helps to not feel so totally alone.
this is hard to rate.......2006-07-31
I found this book to be very gripping, fast paced, and good in that it focused on recovery rather than the graphic details of abuse. However, the problem is that the therapy promoted here is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
Casey becomes a member of her therapist's family and does "therapy" with both her therapist and the therapist's husband. Even way back then, responsible therapists were not advocating this type of extreme "reparenting," and certainly virtually no one would do it now. It's well-written, but if anyone takes it seriously as a blueprint to recovery, it may cause discouragement because the "treatment" is grossly unrealistic.
Also, I thought Lynn was really invested in Casey's separateness. There is a telling anecdote when Casey is hanging out with Lynn and Gordon (Lynn's husband) and Lynn says something like "why doesn't Renee (a personality) come with me to go shopping while Rusty (another personality) stays with Gordon to work on the boat?"
Any therapist who is at all mainstream is going to grind their teeth over stuff like this. It's obvious to me that Lynn and Casey were both very invested in Casey's specialness - we hear about how smart she is, for example, by her stating that she had to deliberately make mistakes on an "easy" IQ test to avoid ostracization - and we hear about how special she is for being MPD. She *does* seem to be very smart and charismatic, as well as determined to recover. I'm glad this very unorthodox treatment worked for her.
Finally, Casey does not ever consider an obvious benefit to her recovery: at the time of her therapy, she was childless. Many MPD/DID clients are raising children, sometimes as single mothers, and that makes recovery *much* more difficult. So to hold oneself up as a role model, when one does not have the complex life that other clients have, is a bit obnoxious, in my opinion.
(I have no children myself so this is not intended to criticize those without children.)
Given the fact that the therapy and the extended reparenting was, quite literally, bizarre, Casey is very fortunate that the cure was not worse than the disease.
Least interesting and helpful book on the subject thus far.......2006-05-15
I have read many books on MPD/DID, and this one is the least interesting and helpful thus far. I do not wish to take any personal jabs at the author, however, MPD/DID is obviously not her only disorder. By the time you get to the end of the book and read about more post-healing "tragedies" and abuse, one gets the feeling that the author thrives on such drama. When people write autobigraphies, they take the reader into their world. I do not wish to be dragged into this author's world. It's not about happy endings, but it is about wanting to read truly good books written by truly healthy people who have truly overcome.
Good book.......2006-03-01
This is a very readable account of Multiple Personality. Narrated by a single member of The Flock and supplemented by notes and diary entries of The Flock's therapist, it never gets confusing, as narratives of Multiplicty can. Ms Casey is a very good writer, and the feelings and motivations of several members of The Flock are presented.
There is also no graphic depiction of the abuse that caused Joan Frances Casey to shatter. It is dealt with matter-of-factly and rather distantly. The author focuses instead on The Flock's adult life.
It's a good book, non-triggering and safe but also quite interesting and informative.

Idiot's Guide to Slow Cooker Cooking.......2005-09-23
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Slow Cooker Cooking is great. I was determined to learn the basics of slow cooking and take advantage of my new slow cooker, but was at a loss as to where to start. The Idiot's Guide not only has some great recipes - both basics and unusual - but lots and lots of general tips that can be applied to other recipes. I really like that element because I can only follow recipes for so long before my brain starts to wander and I want to do my own thing. Knowing what works and doesn't work in general in slow cookers is invaluable.
Easy to read and understand.......2004-05-20
I've always found the Complete Idiot's Guides to be a mixed-bag; some I liked and some I didn't. This one, I liked very much! This book claims to have over 220 recipes, and I believe it, there are too many to count. First off, the book is organized into seven sections - 1) A Fast Course in Slow Cooking (a good quick start), 2) Enticing Appetizers, 3) Satisfying Soups, 4) Stews to Savor, 5) Crock Around the Clock (main courses), 6) Healthful but Homey (seafoods, vegetarian and others), and 7) Grand Finales (desserts). Each of the recipes comes complete with estimates on preparation and cooking time plus number of servings, list of ingredients, step-by-step directions, and some extra little hints and warnings.
My wife and I found this to be a nice book, with easy to read and understand instructions. So far, we have tried to Chicken Paprikash, and Short Ribs with Rosemary - both of which were excellent. So, if you are also on the go, and want to use some slow cooking to save time, then get this book!

Horse, Follow Closely.......2007-01-13
This is a wonderful book. I recommend for all who love horses and the Earth.
Use it as a leadership metaphor.......2006-05-19
Although I have ridden and worked with horses for the last 30 years, I found this book useful as a leadership metaphor for working with volunteer organizations. With volunteers, it's difficult to motivate and get them to accept authority, because there's no military oath compelling behavior and no threat of withdrawal of pay. Likewise, with horses. Horses took no oath, and don't care if you pay them. Many successful business leaders have used martial arts texts as metaphors to succeed in business, and I have had great success with Pony Boy's methods as a leader in volunteer organizations. I am the leader of my herd, and they follow.
Very Pleased.......2006-03-19
Wonderful gift! The photos are exceptional! Helpful information and makes a great coffee table book! Prompt delivery.
Classy, beautiful and worth every penny.......2005-05-21
This is a beautiful book, and it seems that it has made a few other folks out there just a bit jealous! Pony does it right, and the ten training steps are exactly the preview to his other training techniques that helped me to get started and get the amazing results and releationship that I've developed with my horse. It was nice to see a Native American man boldly share the heritage of the peoples who were here before us, and with such class and dignity. This book is like fine wine, and is always displayed on my coffee table as well as in the lobbies of several fine hotels in my area. I thought the chapter about falling off was incredible and it's about time that someone give some guidelines for this inevitable part of riding - Pony is certainly about firsts it seems and is not afraid to show all sides of horses, riding and training. See for yourself, and I highly recommend his new DVD series The Simple Truth About Horses, I have learned an incredible amount of knowledge from these detailed training DVD's! It seems that everything Pony spends time doing, he does right and now I heard he just put out a magazine for horsewomen.. Women & Horses Magazine - is there anything this man can not do????? Get this book, you'll love it.
I find it very sad that anyone would put down this book.......2004-05-14
This book is so beautiful not only in it's sensitivity toward the relationship between horse and human, but it's spiritual messages are heaven sent.
My whole life I have dreamed of this man, a true Native American Indian that has kept the traditional ways and hasn't sold out. Horses are very intelligent beings and not long ago it was rumored that they weren't. I was raised between two large horse ranches, the horse I rode the most was Apache a feisty and sweet Pinto who was a very smart tease of a horse. Horses have a very high level of intuition and emotion and get easily bored, they aren't cows. They love as deeply as humans when put in a relationship with a human that respects them as horses and allows them their freedom to be what they are and yet assist us. When you allow a horse freedom and don't force yourself on them with controlling and cruel training, you can't have a more loyal friend. This is what Gawani Pony Boy shares in depth and how to connect in ways that most humans today are completely unaware of. The photography is mind blowing. I'm proud to have this btilliant book be the only one on display on my coffee table, it lays on top of a circle of twigs made by an Indian friend.

NOTHING UNIQUE FROM ANY OTHER NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP TRAINING.......2006-12-19
I had hoped for perhaps a somewhat unique, Native American perspective on horsemanship; something a little different from othe natural horsemanship trainers selling books & dvds. But, this is the same methodology used by most all of them. It makes a pretty coffee table book, but has nothing new to offer unless this is your first foray into natural horsemanship. Basically, establishing yourself as the "Alpha" or leader, based on the well-known fact that horses want to follow a leader they trust. It emphasizes not using force or abuse & demonstrates how to control the horse's actions once you have established the basic trust/respect level required. I also viewed the dvd & was disappointed that Pony Boy used a perfectly trained horse in all his demonstrations. BORING! It's more of a pretty picture book than a useful instruction you can apply to your untrained horse. Not a book worth keeping in my horse book library.

Save your money and buy a notebook at the local discount store!.......2005-11-02
I was so ticked off when I bought this book. The title " A JOURNAL from the author .. . . " This is NOT a journal FROM Gawani Pony Boy - it's a blank book!! Waste of money!
Better than any other Journal or Cheap diary/notebook.......2004-05-03
At tfirst I was surprised this was available, but WOW! this book by G. Pony Boy has really encouraged me to think deeper about my relationship with my horse, as well as given me a reason to spend some time with myself, which has really helped me to grow. The pictures and beautiful layout are a plus, and really guides you through a process of thought while adding your own writings - and I can add photos in here as well, a great keepsake, I am getting one for each of my horses :-)
An amazing journal that all horse-lovers should own!!!!.......2001-11-26
I read the online reviews, and I was a little skeptical. But I'm telling the truth, THIS BOOK IS REALLY HELPFUL. I can't stress that enough. It's not just some dumb notebook with pictures inside (which are amazing by the way) it asks you questions that make you think about what never had occured to you before. It's not only a way to make you get to know your horse better, but it is a way to remember your horse forever if you ever for any reason have to stop riding him/her. You answer the question, and then you build on that. There's also advice and knowledge about horses within the pages. There's even a few pages that says visions, and you write your visions with you and your horse. There are so many books about horses, but finnaly this is the book that tells you about YOUR horse. You just have to fill in the lines. I am throughly enjoying this book, and think everyone should.
A lovely journal for your favorite horse lover..........2001-06-10
My husband bought me this journal for my birthday and I am quite pleased by it. It is a smaller hardbound book with the lovely photos by Gabrielle Boiselle that GaWaNi Pony Boy has used in his other books. There are lots of lined pages sprinkled with questions from Pony to jog your thoughts and provide a springboard for your writing. There is plenty of room to write comments and then come back and revisit your thinking later. It's a lavish yet practical book which can be taken to the barn and then brought home again to fill with your observations. It makes a wonderful gift for any horse lover.
Not just cute, VERY practical!.......1999-10-19
This is a great journal to take to the barn, rugged hard cover, and great to sit indoors later and review! GaWaNi Pony Boy's books are so beautiful, and this one is no exception...his questions make YOU think...he doesn't just tell you about your horse...one he hasn't even met...but allows the owner to learn about their own animal. I highly recommend this to every rider who truly cares about their animal!

Another winner from Terry Taylor.......2007-10-12
I have 3 collage/assemblage books by Terry Taylor and they are all well-presented, well-narrated and full of inspiration and ideas. Most of all they are all fun. This book is great for all ages and all levels of skill. I'm already looking forward to Terry's next book. Something on Japanese papers perhaps...?
Never too old for paper dolls.......2007-08-20
This fun book is all that it was cracked up to be. Written by Terry Taylor in a light-hearted, fun style,
it explores the various forms of paper dolls and the whimsical world of the child-at-heart. Well illustrated
with explicit instructions for even the klutz-- like me. Taylor's book will inspire you to try everything he
presents. And to draw from within yourself to create more. Have fun, you little cut-ups!!!
Now, back to my scissors and paper....
NOTE: This was supposed to be a 5-star rating. I'm new at this..... DUH.
paperdolls.......2007-02-20
Great book, I have recently begun creating and trading artdolls and ATC artdolls and this book is full of ideas and techniques. Also includes patterns for some paperdolls. I think this book is great for beginner crafters as well as those persons interested in paperdolls.
An inspiring, interesting book to own!.......2007-01-15
Honestly, I have not tried any of the art projects from this book yet, but I know that someday I will. However, that said, it is still a really cool book to have! I keep it on my coffee table, and find myself flipping through the pages quite often just for fun and enjoyment. It is a must for a paperdoll collector (like me), as well as for anyone interested in altered art and/or collage. Nice book to add to your collection!
. . . CREATE PAPER DOLLS WITH ' ATTITUDE ' . . . ?.......2006-10-20
Am I allowed to think of Terry Taylor's book as a "fun hodgepodge"? My spine usually stiffens when the noun "fun" is used as an adjective, but nowadays that probably proves what an antiquated & hopeless sense of humor I have.
O.K., maybe I am jealous? What unadulterated fun it would be, dragging out about 80-years-worth of ephemera & building chapters to share with other demented collectors. My mother cut paper dolls from fashions printed in copies of "Godey's Lady's Book" ( a Civil War era magazine bound into books). These were provided by her maiden aunts; now those genes seem to be showing up in great-granddaughters who are terribly clever at "concocting" paper dolls over a century later. Reviewer mcHAIKU suggests that crafty folks in each generation might also welcome an 'artful' bibliography!
Kids who grow up today without being overdosed with TV are the lucky ones. Their imaginations thrive & they don't clamor for store-bought "embellishments" either - they just scan images from their computers, or cut out the most amazing creatures & objects from slick magazine ads . . . or, better yet, create their own from an array of crayons, markers & color pencils. (These are made available by amazon.com in a great variety of departments: House & Garden, Tools & Hardware, Office products, Toys & Games!)
"Artful Paper Dolls" is a useful springboard for those not overly blessed with imagination. For me, its purchase was definitely an indulgence, and cleverly tempts me to take many detours - dragging out what should normally be boxed up to give away: Cracker Jack 'prizes' & milagros, old postcard & stamp collections, buttons, ribbons, lace & other 'furbelows' - you name it.
Terry Taylor sub-titled his book "new ways to play with a traditional form". I appreciate his being 'up front' as a male who grew up loving paper dolls. His other titles show his success at a variety of crafts, so why shouldn't he employ his ebullience and also encourage many amateurs to have fun? Tom Tierney's paper dolls of historical figures are well-researched & while the economy cannot support hundreds of creators of paper dolls, most of us could be adventuresome and create cards & dolls that radiate humor - the "attitude" I alluded to in the title of this review, and which I think Terry Taylor encourages.

Thorough and meaningful.......2007-04-04
All 3 of my children have one of these. I have engraved their names in gold on the covers of each. I LOVE this book for the detailed info it 'requests' and all the space to write "Special Memories". I have many of Tabori's books and am now looking for a memory book that goes past 5 years of age.
Little Big Organizer for Moms.......2006-06-28
This is such a wonderful baby book. The best one out there.
Great Book.......2005-08-03
This is a great book to keep all the information you recieve during and after pregnancy. This book keeps track of all appointments, prenatal care, delivery, and all of the newborns information. I bought one for my first child, and ordered another as soon as I found out I was pregnant with my second. This is a very helpful organizer.....even has pockets in the back for any ultrasound pictures or information that you want to save.
Great Buy.......2005-01-18
I received this book from a friend when I was pregnant with my first child, and I absolutely love it! There are many spaces for pictures & lots of room to record written information that I will always want to remember; like special moments from my pregnancy and the first five years of my son's life. I like it so much that I plan on buying another copy for my second child.
Great Big Book of Organization.......2004-05-28
I love this book. I used it for my first baby and am purchasing it again for my second. In addition to keeping information regarding medical visits and growth, it has places for fun little stories and brthdays. It is a great baby book, if you want to use it that way, or as a supplement to your more traditional baby book.

Almost perfect.......2006-01-25
This book is fantastic except that it devotes too many preprescribed pages to things like pregnancy and health and not enough to what your baby may have been up to. For example, the first almost 50 pages are devoted specifically to pregnancy and planning for baby. Six of those pages are for the brands and colors of items that you may have picked for your baby's nursery. In contrast, each of the baby's years gets about 10 pages. I didn't even get the book until almost my due date, so you see my plight.
That being said, the graphics are adorable and we are enjoying the book. It's ALMOST exactly what I was looking for.
Must have for all Moms.......2002-05-03
This is a definite MUST HAVE for all Moms. It has a spot for everything and is cute too.
Beautiful Keepsake that will take you through year 5!.......2002-04-09
I had my first child in October 2001, and bought this book early in the pregnancy. I was initially impressed by its appearance- it uses a lot of vintage child art throughout. But, more importantly, I have found this a easy to use and comprehensive book. It is hard cover and spiral bound, and closes with an elastic loop. This is handy so I can stick in photos, announcements, invitations, etc. without fear of losing them. There are many places in the book to attach photos of the appropriate event or time period. Also, this book is useful for not just the pregnancy memories but becomes a baby book, recording your child's events through age 5. There is a useful pocket in the back. There are checklists, quotes, and calendars galore. I am not a big "journaler"; this book helped by guiding me through my memories. I look back and already have recorded so much, but it doesn't seem like it has taken much time. This was a tremendous purchase for me, and I know my husband, son, and I will love to look back on it.
Classy and Complete.......2001-06-11
I recently found out that I am expecting my third, and probably last, child and I decided to find a journal in which to record my pregnancy so that I could really savor and appreciate this special time. This book is more than I expected!! The charming illustrations have a vintage feel that will still look classic when your baby is grown. The book is divided into sections: pregnancy, health and development, first year, second year, etc on up to the fifth year. The book has a chunky feel that makes you want to curl up with it and reminisce. It is a resource for all of the names and phone numbers you'll need to record as a parent but it also guides you into capturing all of those special "firsts" and memories (ie. favorite foods & recipes, favorite songs, quotes from your child's teachers)that you'll enjoy looking back on when your child is grown. I am really looking forward to filling up this book.

Book Description
Bacon, the mystery man of his time, wrote secret ciphers in all of the "Shakespeare" plays that acknowledge himself as the true author. If you ever doubted his authorship of the plays, read this book!
Book Description
For many years past, the lack of absolutely any evidence that William Shakespeare, the actor, wrote the plays bearing his name, the similarity of their diction and style to that of Francis Bacon, the gradually increasing evidence that a master of languages, lore and science, of law and poesy, of philosophy and arts, must have been the only begetter of these and other works, bearing the names of Spenser, Marlowe, Greene, Peele and others, all these things have driven men to ascribe their origin to the great Chancellor of England, who bore the name of Sir Francis Bacon.
