Book Description
Providing a critical examination of the political philosophy and international thought of the contemporary American philosopher John Rawls, this book shows an account of Rawls's views regarding the nature of social justice among states and the international law and morality he considers necessary to secure universal human rights and political stability among states. A concise and critical analysis of one of the foremost political philosophers, this carefully examines Rawls's theories of domestic and international justice and his arguments for a cosmopolitan variation on his law of peoples.

Great Reference book for suffers and those who loves him/her.......2006-03-23
This is NOT a self-help Book. If you want a Self-Help Book, do your research and buy one. This book is a REFERENCE book about anxiety disorder. and is a GOOD ONE~!
If you have anxiety..........2005-12-15
If you have anxiety, 360 pages of info is overwhelming. Usually anxiety is not that complicated. Start with something simple that gets right to the point of reducing your anxiety (I did the program at selftherapy.org and loved it). Then if you want to become an expert, read a book like this.. highly informational, but not all that practical.
Disorganized.......2005-12-06
Abolsutely one of the worst self-help books I have read. There isn't any structure, and it's not simplistic. The advice given is helpful but the authors then reverse the whole deal. Its like one chapter says this will be helpful, and then another chapter says it wont. It just goes all over the place and you cant really follow what the authors are trying to get at.
A book I highly reccemend for anxiety and depressive related disorders is "Feel the fear and do it anyway" Much more simplistic, easier to read and get thru. And much more cheerful.
I also dont like that these authors have seperated anxiety and depression from one another. I guess they do have a new book coming out that combines them both. It will be interesting to see if they have learned anything from their last two failures.
But for someone that wants quick and easy advice, this book is certainly not for them. I'm afraid that this book of jargon will make it more confusing.
You can LIVE with anxiety !.......2005-07-24
Hi All
Firstly, this is a really helpful book... easy to read and putting all your fears in easy to understand words. There is LIVE after and during anxiety and panic disorders. Secondly, as per other reviews, Magnesium, calcium and vit B supplements do help to lessen anxiety. Try it, but first speak to your doctor.
GREAT READ ! Thanks Laura and Charles.

Magnesium can speed up relief; please read this review!.......2005-04-19
I am very familiar with the pain of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia for I suffered from these maladies for several decades. During those years of suffering I believed that my problems were purely mental and underwent treatment by psychiatrists, psychologists, and hypnotherapists. I took various prescribed medications and read many books such as this, but experienced little relief. And then something wonderful happened: I began taking a daily supplement of chelated magnesium (for a different ailment) and shortly thereafter experienced a significant diminishment of anxiety in addition to cure of the ailment for which I had originally taken the supplemental magnesium. There seemed to be no explanation for why taking supplemental magnesium caused this wonderful loss of anxiety until the publication in 2003 of the important book The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean. Early in her book Dr. Dean reveals that a major cause of anxiety and panic attacks is deficiency of magnesium and that magnesium deficiency is quite common in the U.S. Therefore, I beg all sufferers of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia -- whatever else you may do -- please purchase and read The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean and please try the magnesium supplementation which she recommends. It may change your life as has changed mine.

Customer Reviews:
Great book!.......2007-02-28
I really enjoy this book. It is a fun, fascinating glimpse into the world of the trappers and folks who actually used the sourdough, back in the Day. It is completely untrue that all of the recipes use commercial yeast!! Some of them do, but not many. The author presents a good cross-section of the difficult, demanding recipes that Sourdough can often turn out to be, and also, in some recipes, tries to make things a little simpler for the average home baker. Overall the book is VERY authentic, and a very refreshing book to read, after all the elite Sourdough Snobs there are.
This book turned me against the snobbish world of Sourdough Purists- I don't use a thermometer, I don't use a timer. I just throw in a handful of flour and some warm water in the morning, afternoon, and evening, and stir. (It's a new starter, I'll get to the refrigerator part later- if I need to.) I take out some starter if it seems like it's getting to be too much. I enjoy the process, and enjoy what I'm doing, and my starter is coming along nicely, thank you very much!
The only thing I do wish is that the book was more clear on the various stages that Starters go through, but an internet search resolves that pretty quickly. I highly recommend this book!
Great basic recipes.......2003-06-23
I have several sour dough recipe books, this is one I use most often. My husband loves the banana nut bread, chocolate cake and pancakes from this book.
Good stories, not so good recipes.......2002-07-04
If you want an interesting book about the lore of sourdough - and the experiences of Don and Myrtle Holm, this is a great book.
If you want authentic, useable, sourdough recipes this is not your best choice. All the recipes use baker's yeast in them. Baker's yeast wasn't available to the sourdoughs who made sourdough famous, and it doesn't belong in sourdough.
Don and Myrtle admit you can make sourdough without adding baker's yeast, but they get vague on the details. I'd rather stick to a purist approach to sourdough and just use sourdough to raise and flavor my bread, and for that goal, this book was disappointing.
Instead, look at the books by Ed Wood, Peter Reinhart, or Allan Scott and Dan Wing.
Disappointing intro to sourdough breads.......2002-02-10
I bought this book hoping to get started making my own sourdough bread. Instead, I found a mildly interesting collection of anecdotes, lore, and "recipes" concerning the history of sourdough in the American West. The instructions for making a starter were vague and brief. Most of the recipes called for commercial yeast anyway, making me wonder if the starter was even responsible for any rising that took place. I tried 5 of the recipes in the book and found them all to be bland and disappointing.
sourdough addict.......2000-02-24
Excellent recipes. Our family was brought up on "the old doctors sourdough bread"and it's our granddaughter's favorite. The english muffins and the pizza dough are well worth trying. The chocolate cake is superb. The anecdotes make for easy reading.I just bought two copies as our original-bought in the early seventies is just about worn out.

Book Description
The author provides clear, step-by-step instructions for and expedient 9mm submachine gun. It is easily constructed from readily available materials, primarily steel tubing; it does not require a lathe and milling machine and it can be built by just about anyone in about a week. For Academic Study Only
Customer Reviews:
Interesting Reading, Don't Do It.......2007-01-30
As this book clearly states: 'This material is presented for academic study only.' It is clearly illegal to build the gun described in the book. And if you have enough money to pay all the taxes, you don't need to build one, you can go buy a real gun. When I say real, I mean that you'd have more confidence it wouldn't blow up.
Having said that, the academic interest in this gun is just to see how simple it is to build a gun, and in turn, how impossible it is to prevent the manufacture of weapons by simply passing a law.
The particular gun described here is the simplest I've ever seen. It's constructed from commonly available steel tubing. (I didn't realize that so many standard tubing sizes were so close to what was needed for gun building.) Strangely enough, you don't even need a lathe or milling machine for this gun. Everything is made using hand tools such as hacksaw and file. Normally accepted things such as rifling in the barrel and sights are simply eliminated.
One final comment. He uses a series of 'steel collars' in his design. I presume that's a British term. If you look up 'steel collars' on Google you get a bunch of bondage sites. Instead look up 'shaft collars.'
Expedient Homemade Firearms: The 9mm Submachine Gun.......2006-07-31
A very interesting read, simple step by step instructions. If you can obtain the materials & trust the authors word-in no time at all you would probably have a neat little weapon on your hands.
Greatest Book.......2006-05-07
This is a must have for all gun fans. It shows exactly how to build an automatic gun any size from 22 caliber to 12 gauge. Can be built by anyone from simple easily found materials, it looks great too.
Decent How to .......2005-12-31
Great shop drawings for Machining parts.. Historical information about the Metral. In a SHTF scenario this will/would be a useful book to have on the workbench.
I prefer .223 or 7.62x39 for a variety of reasons.. I've built several of each with no machining from kits. Don't think I'll ever built a Mitral unless DOT.GOV decides to try and usurp the constitution and confiscate legally owned firearms from citizens, in that case, more people then myself would "redeclare our independence from tyranny."
Don't break the law - The author went to prison.......2005-09-10
The following is an extract of the decsion of the Parole Board in considering the four year prison sentance given to the author. Read the book, but don't act on it!
"The prisoner was convicted in Leeds Crown Court on 24th.April 1998 of the manufacture of a prohibited weapon...............he was sentenced to a total of four years imprisonment. Mr.Luty admitted a long term interest in guns and gun making (3) ...At the time of interview he expressed strong views about the stringent gun laws in this country and on issues related to the individual and the state. To an extent he appears to have embraced the views promulgated by much of the "Right to keep and bear arms" lobby in the United States. I understand police seized a number of publications making reference to these views ....Whilst there is no evidence to suggest Mr.Luty has established any contact with militia or other extreme groups in the United States , his apparent sympathy for their views is of ongoing concern (4) ...............of special concern , I understand Mr.Luty's brother attempted to send him an article from the internet by an organization called "Jews for the preservation of firearms ownership" (JPFO) (5). This appears to be yet another "Right to keep and bear arms" group. Since his imprisonment, Mr.Luty's mother has died and I understand his father remains chronically ill............The prisoner's attitude to the role of the state and the possession and use of firearms gives rise to serious concern. This ,taken together with...the anti-authority stance exhibited during this sentence, adds to the concern that he could represent a very great danger to members of the public in future. The fact that his mother has died since imprisonment and that he appears to have developed an embittered view of his treatment in prison may reinforce his anti-social and anti- authority attitudes, making the likelihood of grave crimes being committed in the future even more likely. (6)
In all the circumstances, in my opinion, the presumption must be that he is potentially dangerous and the case must be managed accordingly. The prisoner has not shown any progress in understanding the concerns highlighted in his case and, if anything, appears even more intransigent in his views than before conviction. Therefore, in my view, he is not a suitable candidate for early release on parole. His future supervision on licence will have to be undertaken with a view to managing risk to the public as an overriding priority.

Great book for the novice and experienced alike........2001-05-17
Let me put it this way - I loaned it out to a couple of neighbors and now I am online buying them a copy. First of all it is put together in an easy to understand context. The information can be found in a quick manner. The information that is provided is exactly what we were looking for. It tells about the herb, a little history, how to plant it, any variations that are available, and finally how to use it effectively. So many times I would have to be looking at 3 books to get just such information. The recipes are very useful too. It's great to go to the nursery now - pick out an herb that isn't oregano, basil, parsley, etc. and know exactly how I am going to effectivley use it. This book gave me so many ideas beyond adding the herb to salads or teas.
The authors love affair with herbs has infused all the pages.......1999-04-04
Authors, Bill and Sylvia Varney's herb farm is in the Hill Country of West Texas in a town called Fredericksburg. Right from the beginning of their book you're aware that the knowledge they pass on to the reader is the result of on-the-job research and information they learned through trial and error while working on their farm. That to me is the best kind of information. As I read this book I was aware that their love affair with herbs had infused all of the pages. This is not just a cut and dried encyclopedia of the usual culinary herbs everyone has heard about, but rather a book written lovingly by two people who have deep feeling about herbs and their uses. In addition to the usual culinary herbs there are also descriptions of medicinal and cosmetic herbs, information on using herbs to decorate your life, and ways to add them to your landscape. In the Gallery of Herbs section the information for each herb supplies a little history, planting and care, and harvesting and uses. A nice touch in this section is the side-bars with additional information such as recipes, folklore, and different quotes such as "He who bears chives on his breath is safe from being kissed to death" by Martise, a Roman poet. Too often a new gardener just jumps in and decides one day to plant an herb garden and the next day puts the plants in the ground. It's easy to forget that although everyone says herbs are easy to grow, there are important tasks that come before the planting. The sections 'Framework for a Garden' and 'Putting Down Roots', will ensure your success when planting your new garden and is what makes this book great for beginners. Besides the side-bar recipes there is also a section called 'Herbal How-to Recipes' to help you use your harvest in both the kitchen and bath and to decorate your home. At the beginning and end of this book are two handy sections that are always an asset, the 'Glossary' and 'Sources and Resources'. The exceptional photography throughout the book might lead you to keep it on your coffee table for everyone to enjoy; but the soft cover says to me that this is a manual to be used.

Hysterical.......2007-10-16
Invariably people who dislike this book will click that the review was not helpful. Just because you disagree with someone's OPINION of the book doesn't mean the review isn't helpful.
Whether or not you find this book funny depends heavily on your sense of humor - what kinds of things do you find funny. I have a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor, and loved this book. If you don't like sarcasm then skip the book.
We bought this during pregnancy and both loved it so much that I asked my husband to read it aloud so we could laugh together. It is not a week-by-week of your pregnancy or even a realistic 'what to expect.' It is a light-hearted and humorous look at pregnancy and parenting.
Very negative approach to fatherhood.......2007-07-25
If you are looking for a negative, sarcastic approach to fatherhood, this is the perfect book for you. The book opens by telling the reader that fatherhood wrecks your life. Very negative, not helpful at all.
Terrible.......2007-03-28
Like a lot of fathers-to-be, I was given a whole slew of fatherhood-themed books. This was far and away the worst of the lot. Plenty of them were cheesy or cutesy or smarmy, but this one is just plain bad. The central problem is that it's totally negative, taking the wholly stereotypical and unhelpful stance that fatherhood marks the end of any fun in your life. The cover illustrates this rather succinctly, with an aprehensive cartoon dude confronted with a signpost with "Having a Life" pointing one way, and "Fatherhood" the opposite way. I guess I could have mentally edited out the negative approach and mined the book for useful tips/advice -- if there were any. But there isn't. Moreover, the book is painfully _not_ funny. _Very_ not funny. So do yourself a favor and skip this one, there are tons of better books on fatherhood.
The lighter side to all the "heavy" advice.......2007-01-16
As soon as you announce to your family and friends that you are "in a family way", everybody seems to have volumes of advice to give you, very often serious, sometimes even alarming. And of course, most of it is reserved for the mom-to-be. A buddy gave me this book as a subtle joke, to alleviate my feeling of being on the sidelines and not knowing what to expect.
Though this book is somewhat short on substance, it goes a long way in giving you a first glimpse at what parenting means from the father's perspective. As you read it, you feel as though you're gathered around the grill sipping a cold beer and listening to a humorous guy recounting his experience at being a new father. A lot of it is fluff, but a few things rang true for me as my first child arrived. "What to Expect When You're Expecting" this book is not.
So of course, when my younger brother gave us the news, I couldn't resist puting this book in his hands.
Funny ...........2007-01-04
Wonderful book...and soooo funny !! A "must-read" for all fathers to be !!

Book Description
City planner, developer, community builder, and realtor, Kansas Citian Jesse Clyde Nichols (1880-1949) was one of Ameria's most influential entrepreneurs in twentieth-century land development. Adapting the railroad and streetcar suburb to the automobile age, Nichols helped to shape not only his hometown but also the nation. He pioneered the development of both permanently stable (upper middle-class) residential neighborhoods and (in 1923) of the automobile-oriented shopping center, which became the prototype for the postwar shopping mall. As early as 1940, he also initiated mass-produced, mass-market suburban developments. Attesting to his enduring legacy in Kansas City are the Country Club District, a model community of beautiful homes; the Country Club Plaza, a seventy-year-old mecca for shoppers; and a host of well-preserved suburban communities south of the downtown.
In addition to his impact on living spaces, Nichols contributed to the social, cultural, and economic life of Kansas City. The Pearsons make clear that he was the driving force behind the Liberty Memorial, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Kansas City University (now the University of Missouri at Kansas City) and the Midwest Research Institute. Active in public service both locally and nationally during the last third of his life, Nichols helped to bring industry to the Plains states and was the man most responsible for making the Missouri River navigable.
The authorized story of the man and his company is based on family papers, company records, and archival sources. In addition the authors have drawn on interviews with the Nichols family, company associates and officials, and civic leaders in Kansas City and elsewhere. Lavishly illustrated, the chronicle provides the reader with an insider's view of J. C. Nichols's life, his legacy, and his family.
