Book Description
Charles Edward Russell was a muckraking journalist who exposed the dark underside of America's class system at the turn of the twentieth century. The scandals and social problems he revealed through aggressive, investigative reporting led to some of the most important and largest reform efforts of the period. A Pulitzer Prize winner, author of twenty-seven books, and a founder of the NAACP, Russell has nonetheless faded from public view. In this book, Robert Miraldi restores him to his rightful place in history, shedding light on the Hearst and Pulitzer newspaper empires, the growth of yellow journalism, and numerous headlines of the period-including Lizzie Borden's murder of her parents and the gruesome details of the Chicago meatpacking industry. It also provides a fascinating look at the growth of the Amer-ican Socialist Party, of which Russell was an active member until his pro-World War I stance brought him into conflict with other members of the Party, prompting his resignation.

Book Description
Every father can make a huge difference in his daughter’s life.
As the primary male role model in a girl’s life, fathers influence their daughters in profound ways, from how they see themselves to what they come to expect from men and the world at large. But men often don’t realize the importance of their interactions or may shy away from too close involvement because of their inexperience, or conditioning. Especially as girls move into adolescence, fathers may find themselves feeling distant from their daughters or awkward with the changing dynamic. Communication becomes difficult and parenting issues more complicated. But this is also the time when daughters most need their fathers to be an even greater presence in their lives. Dads and Daughters is a tool to bridge that gap and build a rewarding and joyful father-daughter relationship.
From father to father and with insights from many other dads, Joe Kelly shows men how they can strengthen their relationships with their daughters and explores the tremendous rewards this relationship can bring. Starting with a self-assessment quiz titled “How Am I Doing as My Daughter’s Father?” dads can immediately see what kind of role they play in their daughter’s life. To educate fathers and offer solutions when problems arise, Dads and Daughters then offers thoughtful coverage of the most pivotal issues today’s girls face, such as sex and dating, body image, alcohol and drugs, media culture and violence, money and responsibility, and the future. In doing so he both illuminates the culture our daughters live in and shows fathers how to guide their daughters toward rewarding, healthy lives.

Dad's - Time to Wake Up!!!!.......2007-08-06
This is the must read book for ANY Dad that has a daughter. Preferably, please read soon after your daughter is born and read over and over again as she grows up. Once she is a teenager, if you haven't read it you are in trouble! If you want to really know what is going on in your daughter's mind and body, PLEASE read this book.
Dads' Manual for A Teenage Daughter .......2007-08-01
Well written and filled with common sense. Every Dad needs to read this in order to understand a teen-age daughter and how to develop an open-minded relationship with his daughter. Bettye Johnson, award-winning author Secrets of the Magdalene Scrolls.
Respectable Women are the Product of their Fathers.......2006-11-16
Just take a look at women who achieved and are respected ... and you will find the personification of the father's daughter. This book is a brilliant explanation of why the biological father must be around his children. The whole notion of single super power mother is complete fallacy because fathers are a much better protector of a daughter for reasons that have nothing to do with being anti-feminist. Studies and research has shown that women raised by single mothers are often at risk for relationship problems and addictions. Case studies have also proven that a step-father cannot take the place of the real father, although not the same is true with a step-mother. Nonetheless, a woman raised by a strong father figure often grows up to be confident, intelligent, achieving, and often lands leadership positions in life. Margaret Thatcher, the first female Prime Minister is Great Britain was profoundly influenced by her father, Golda Meir (Prime Minister of Isreal) same thing, and of course Indira Gandhi (Prime Minister of India) yet again. In sports there is Steffi Graf and Christ Evert whose fathers were their original coaches and mentors. So ... for all the women who say that fathers are irrelevant ... think again about how selfish that statement is to the child .... and consider what kind of person you want your daughter to grow up to be. If you don't believe me, read the book and do your own research. Men deserve to be in their children's lives just as much as the mother.
An interesting article on the importance of father's is also probed in this insightful commentary by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach - Friday, 15 April, 2005 on his website:
What to do about female promiscuity
American culture grows more crass by the day. One of the most successful American TV shows is The Apprentice starring Donald Trump, a man loaded with money but bankrupt of class. The highlight of the show is when Trump humiliates potential employees by barking at them, "You're fired!"
One can only grieve over a culture that promotes a coarse womanizer who has dumped a wife or two in favor of young models as its symbol of professional success.
Indeed, watching people be humiliated is big business on American TV. Shows such as American Idol feature judges like Simon Cowell ? known as Mr. Nasty ? who shoot the middle finger at contestants they don't like. Public degradation has become as American as apple pie with programs like Fear Factor garnering huge ratings by having participants eat bugs and swim with dead mice.
But perhaps the most disturbing example of the culture of crassness is the growing trend of famous young women going through the rite of passage known as the nearly naked photo spread.
Such recent graduates of the you-may-think-I-have-a-brain-but-let's-instead-focus-on-my-bust school of celebrity include Scarlet Johansson, who acted superbly in Lost in Translation, which made her famous enough to qualify for a cleavage-bearing photo op. Janet Jackson, of course, joined the club when she decided to have us all forget about her dancing and focus instead on her nipples, while Britney Spears is the club's founding member.
The reduction of talented and intelligent women to two breasts and a vagina has reached its apogee with the Girls Gone Wild videos, in which tens of thousands of college girls, often on spring break, flash for the camera, their sole remuneration being a feeling of deep satisfaction that they have played their God-given role as entertainment for lecherous men.
Why have millions of young American women abandoned the feminist dream of being taken seriously by men and instead decided to gain male attention with degrading spectacles of their bodies? I am convinced that the principal cause is an increasingly weak link between fathers and daughters.
IN OUR society, we have it all backward. Too much is made of the father-son relationship at the expense of the father-daughter one. The image of a boy being taught by his dad to catch a baseball or throw a football is commonplace, while the only mainstream image of a father interacting with his teenage daughter is telling her not to come home too late when she goes out with her boyfriend.
Pop tarts like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, who use partial nudity to advance their careers, are often close to their mothers, who may even serve as their managers, while their dads are nowhere to be seen.
Where you do read about a father's central involvement in his daughter's career, it usually leads to respectable women like Steffi Graff and the Williams sisters, who have resisted the offers for provocative photo spreads even after they became famous as tennis stars. This is not because mothers don't love their daughters but because men are much more successful at protecting their daughters from other men. And when a daughter receives strong masculine validation from a loving and caring father, she is usually not desperate for sexual attention from manipulative and hormonal men.
Recently the New York Times ran a front-page story about a 15-year-old girl who refused to have sex with her 16-year-old boyfriend. He promptly cheated on her. When the girlfriend found out, she told her boyfriend that they should cut class and go and have sex. She did so, she said, "in order to keep him." When I read this story, I wondered Where is this girl's father? Had her father been a strong male presence in her life, she would not have been so desperate for the affection of a scoundrel.
EVEN WHEN I go to a Yankees game, I take my five daughters along with my older son. True, they often don't know the names of the players or even the score, but they know their father loves them and hates being separated from them. There is a special connection that daughters have with their fathers that even a mother cannot replicate, which grants young women a startling immunity from compromising themselves with jerks.
Indeed, when a daughter is close to her father and respects him as a man and a dad, she begins to judge other men by that same high standard. When she dates men, she will not judge them by their smooth talk but by the depth of their commitment because her own father was not a talker but a doer. She will not jump into bed with a man just to please him. She has high self-esteem, and she expects the men in her life to make an effort to please her rather than the reverse. Her idea of a relationship is not going down to the guy's level but raising him up to hers.
THIS IS why it's so important for a father to remain the most important man in his daughter's life until she is at least 20. I always lament witnessing the deterioration of the homes of my friends whose teenage daughters are always out, either with girlfriends or boyfriends. My daughters will not date until they are of marriageable age ? in our communities from 19. Up until that time, my own love for them will sustain their need for male attention. They will not be forced at too early an age to worry whether they're pretty enough, smart enough, sexy enough, or attractive enough. To their father, they are just perfect. And they will internalize that message in their most vulnerable years so they can grow into confident and robust women who attract men out of strength rather than weakness.
As for the criticisms that too close a relationship with your daughter will impede her ability to later form close connections with romantic partners, exactly the opposite is true. A young woman with an involved and loving father gains the confidence in herself to sever the childhood ties with her father and begin a loving relationship with a man precisely because she has learned to trust men. She has no fear of being vulnerable ? a prerequisite for romantic love ? because her father has shown her an example of a man who can be trusted and relied upon.
But if she feels betrayed by her own father, she will often run to another man more to escape pain than to find love, which is what usually makes her a prime candidate for that revealing photo spread.
Trouble?.......2006-08-18
My dad and I had problems ever since I started high school. Since I was the oldest of four kids, it was hard for him to accept the idea of me moving away...not only for college. During those years, he was very defensive and my adolecent attitude didn't help much.
We always had a good bond and when we worked together, we kicked butt. This book has helped me get in touch with my dad more, and he is now starting to get over the fact that his kid isn't a kid anymore...
It was good stuff.
Very interesting of how to raise doughters.......2005-07-27
I loved the book, it helped me to see things that otherwise I didn't notice about our culture and how it relates to the girls. With the book advice I will be able to help my doughter to grow healthy and strong

Customer Reviews:
A fifties retrospective about fun at the beach and many recipies for beach food.......2007-06-07
For many reasons, nostalgia for the past is a part of all of us, even when it is unjustified. The reality is that the good old days generally never were. It is only the passage of time and the immediacy of our current problems that make them seem that way.
In this book, the nostalgic cravings for the sun and fun of the beach are recreated. Some of the favorite beach activities such as volleyball, surfing, beachcombing, building sandcastles and picnicking are described. The tone of the book is right out of the 1950's, the posed joy of the people; broad smiles are everywhere, even when the people are doing the most mundane of activities.
If the kitsch of fifties retrospectives are of interest to you then this is a book for you. However, if you are more of a realist about those times, then you will view this book for what it is. A throwback to a time when the American public was in many ways innocently naïve and simplistic about the world and that was reflected in the portrayals of people at leisure.
100 recipes for beach picnics and barbecues blended with colorful 1950s illustrations throughout.......2005-09-07

Book Description
The invasion of the Fur People was formally documented about 3500 years back, surfacing first in the historic records of ancient Egypt, when to kill a cat evoked an immediate death sentence. Times may change-human nature does not. Cats continue to steal into our homes and hearts as soul-stalkers and life-gladdeners. Michael Hathaway (editor of Chiron Review literary magazine) writes, "I love all animals, but cats are the most beautiful and intriguing....I love the spectrum of personalities and behavior and the variety of sizes, colors and shapes. Each is a one-of-a-kind cosmic masterpiece. Each has endearing habits and rituals that become a vital part of the daily rhythms of my life." Cosmic Children: Collected Kittens and Cats is a collection of true-life cat stories and poems which span three decades. The lively and lovable parade of unforgettable feline characters begins with a pastel calico named Pandora, "the curious Gemini clown, the little person in a cat suit," who saves the life and sanity of a lonely, bewildered teenaged boy.

true rod building passion.......2006-03-08
Mr. Garcia has extended his love for the craft through this most passionately written and photographed masterpiece. A must have for the novice and the seasoned professional.
Beautiful rods & photographs..........2002-06-13
LA Garcia looks to be one of the premier rod builders out there. The photographs are spectacular and are not lacking. The only area lacking in my opinion is in instruction. I still had many questions after reading this book. It is helpful in the craft, but other books and instruction (preferably from an experienced rod builder) will be required for building rods. Tom Kirkman's book is much more thorough.
Beautifully done.......2001-12-17
The layout and photographs of this book are beautiful. Ritzy flyrod shops should have this one lying around for people to read and admire. In general it is a very good introductory book on building a graphite fly rod and I built one using it. I did find the explanation of how to determine the rod blank's spine to be confusing. However, there are several good explanations of rod spine on the net. It has a good description of how to do a two color thread wrap, that is, a one color main wrap with a different color accent. Mine looks mighty nice, cobalt blue accented with gold on a charcoal blank. (St. Croix SC-III 6wt. 9ft.)
Great Step by Step Color Photos.......2001-08-07
LA Garcia does a great job of taking you through the way he builds rods. Close up photographs are great, and the chapters are in sequence of building the rods. He has a great section on all the materials needed too. Garcia includes equipment made of materials at home along with more expensive store bought rigs. He does fail to go into detail the differences between guides (single foot, hialoy, silicon carbide guides) and why NCP thread doesn't meet his standards. I actually found consulting the internet on assembling alternatives easier (material written by a gentleman named Al Campbell).
Best book on the subject ever written!!!!.......1999-01-22
I have made several graphite fly rods for myself and my children and every one has turned out beautifully. The simple, easy to follow instructions and clear photos make this book a "must have" reference. My Loomis blanks turned out easily as good as the factory rods in finish and I have the satisfaction of knowing I did the work myself. Plus, I saved about 50% on the cost. I customized the rods for each of my kids so they each have a unique, hand crafted rod with Dad's signature on it. Great book, no question about it. Buy it!!

Excellent for the crafter and herb lover!.......2007-07-17
I really enjoyed reading this book and am reading it again right now. I loved the recipes and the photos are great. Good reference book for those getting into the field of herbs, whether it be for growing or for crafting.
Had to have one for myself.......2005-11-27
I bought this book as a gift, but had to buy two so I could keep one. It covers all the standard herbs in the standard way, but what stands out in this little book are the photos of some very creative uses for the herbs. The "cooking with herbs" section is also well done and I've actually used some of the recipes! The print is very small, but the typeface is clear and simple so that helps to keep it readable.

Book Description
Despite the emphasis on safe sex in the era of HIV and AIDS, sexually transmitted infections remain alarmingly common. Every year, more than 12 million people in this country will be diagnosed with one of the twenty STDs known to modern medicine -- from familiar diseases like HIV and syphilis to conditions such as chlamydia and herpes, which are less understood by the public. More than half of sexually active adults over age 35 will acquire one or more STDs at some point in their lives. The majority of STDs remain part of a "hidden epidemic" for reasons that range from reluctance of parents and teachers to talk about sex to the lack of symptoms produced by many disorders. Yet the long-term effects may be devastating and can include infertility, scarring, premature births, and death. There is a clear need for greater public awareness of how easily STDs are transmitted -- and how potentially dangerous they are.
With this book, Dr. Lisa Marr provides a much-needed resource on the subject of STDs in a comprehensive and easy-to-use reference format. As medical director at an STD clinic in Portland, Dr. Marr has worked on the front lines of the fight against STDs, and her approach is frank, nonjudgmental, and thorough. In Part One of the book, she describes male and female anatomy and reviews the symptoms that may indicate infection with an STD. She explains what an STD exam should include and discusses sexual communication as well as safe and unsafe sexual practices. Side bars, case studies, and illustrations help explain all of these important topics. Part Two is a comprehensive encyclopedia of STDs, with entries for each that describe symptoms, risk factors, transmission, testing, and treatment.
Throughout, Dr. Marr focuses on clearing up misconceptions by providing accurate, practical advice for people of all ages, races, sexual orientation, and economic means. All of the following statements, she notes, reflect commonly held beliefs about STDs -- and all of them are false:
"If I don't have any symptoms, I can't have an STD."
"If my partner and I get HIV tests and we're negative, that means we don't have to worry about using condoms."
"When I get my yearly PAP smear, my doctor would tell me if anything was wrong."
"If I use a condom, I can't get an STD."
"Oral sex is safe. I can't get an infection from oral sex so I don't need to use a condom."
 "Only promiscuous people get STDs."
"I had chlamydia before and I had symptoms. Since I don't have any symptoms now, that means I don't have an STD."
"Douching after sex will help prevent getting an STD."
"Lesbians don't have to worry about STDs."
"I can't transmit herpes if I don't have an outbreak."
Dispelling these and other myths, Dr. Marr helps readers take steps to protect themselves against infection and, for those who develop symptoms or believe they have been exposed to infection, describes what to look for in appropriate medical care. She offers strategies for coping with chronic conditions such as herpes, as well as advice about STDs that respond to treatment if discovered early. This valuable book belongs in every public library and health clinic, and will be an important resource for all those who have been infected or who want to learn how to avoid becoming infected or infecting others.
"Because so many people are infected, it is very important to understand what STDs are, and how they are transmitted. Such knowledge allows people to take steps to protect themselves and helps to keep fear from controlling their lives. People who have information about STDs can lead a richer sexual life because they do not have to live in fear -- they know how to lower their risk of acquiring infection." -- from the Preface
Customer Reviews:
Sexually Transmitted Disease by Marr.......2003-11-14
This book explains the male and female anatomy with particular
emphasis on the causes and prevention of classic sexually
transmitted diseases and disease processes. The author
discusses herpes, lice, warts, yeast infections, testicle
bacteria, gonorrhea, prostrate infections, urinary tract
infections and a whole host of infectious diseases. There is
an exhaustive discussion of safe sex which includes:
o monogamy
o abstinence
o testing and checkups
o avoidance of risk behaviors
o outercourse
o chlamydia bacteria and special tests PCR, LCR
This book is valuable for anyone travelling overseas with an
expectation of engaging multiple sex partners. The author
explains the major disease processes, prevention strategies,
testing, diagnosis and modern treatment modalities. The book is
worth the price if you have questions about sexual contact and
the risks/precautions involved.
If use is any indication..........2001-03-13
I am a consumer health librarian, and I keep a pretty close eye on my book collection to see what is being used. Although this book has never checked out in the 10 months we've had it, several times a week it moves around: it gets misshelved, set on top of the bookcase, taken into our waiting or reading area, left on a chair, etc. What this says to me is that there is a real demand for this information, but people are not inclined to check the book out and take it home (who wants to be spotted on the bus carrying a book on STDs?). So, people are sneaking a peek at the information when they can.
Besides being heavily used, this is a fine book that covers the full gamut of STDs, including many that I had not heard of (and I'm pretty savvy about medical terms and disease names), and helpful sections on genital anatomy, "What is 'safe sex'?", a symptom key, what to expect in an examination, and a section on how open communication can help save your life and health in a sexual situation. I wouldn't call the writing style fascinating, but it gets the information across in spades, and does not talk down or confuse. The book also has the full complement of appendices: resource list, glossary, bibliography (largely clinical medical articles), and an excellent index. This is a seriously good consumer health book, and I wish they were all like this, regardless of topic.
p.s.--When I went to get the book in the library stacks just now, it was misshelved again. ;)
The Hard Truth.......2000-11-01
I read the book for a research paper for one of my biology classes and was very impressed with it. The writer successfully explained in layman's terms the harsh truth about STDs. I recommend it to all. Everyone needs to be aware of the world we live in and we need to know the price we can pay for the decisions we make. I live in Miami, where the sex scene is everywhere: music, the club scene, movies, the media. You need to know before the bombardment of sexhits you, so that when you make your decisions, or mistakes, you are prepared.
Educational, and yet interesting.

Book Description
'The only question left hanging in the air is the one which every journalist asks himself on submitting an article. It is also the one with which we may all eventually, in trembling hope, face our Maker: Will this do?'
The question should rather be: How does one cope with being the son of a father as famous as Evelyn Waugh? From this side-splittingly funny autobiography it is clear to see that the young Auberon more than managed. A privileged background, unusual childhood and public school education are followed by Oxford and a career as a writer and columnist. Waugh's portrait of his father is affectionate yet droll, his tone self-deprecating, and his stories entertaining and sad by turns. The biting wit is addictive.
Customer Reviews:
Very Funny, Beautifully Written.......2005-10-06
I enjoyed the book a great deal. It is a series of interconnected vignettes, which almost encourages the reader to open the book on any page and start reading (certainly my preferred technique for reading this book). Funny, yet with a lingering sadness, written in a prose style that is precise while being still extraordinarily natural and carefree. I am not sure everyone will like the book, but those who do will tend to love it.
Brilliant.......2004-09-07
Waugh was not only the best journalist of his generation, but also the funniest to boot. This book is a glorious romp through a life which added greatly to the gaiety of a nation.
This will do.......2001-04-24
There's something almost irresistible about the memoirs of a child of Evelyn Waugh, and there's much pleasure to be had in the first half of the autobiography. Auberon Waugh's dealings with his splenetic, conservative father--among the posh country houses of his family and their relatives--makes the stuff of a fine story, and Waugh brings great ironic humor to the table. Unfortunately, Auberon's own literary career is much less interesting, and concerns mainly petty squabbles and encounters with figures who are only of passing interest today: it's hard to get very worked up one way or the other, for instance, about Claire Tomalin's libel suit against him.
Waugh's humor (like his father's) is not to everyone's tastes, but if you find his snobbish summaries and appreciations for the bizarre droll (as I do), you'll enjoy yourself very much. He is very much aware of his snobbism, as well as his father's, and his self-deprecating awareness of both men's failing is greatly appreciated, and makes the entire matter much easier to take.
THE MAN IN THE IRONIC MASK.......2001-01-26
.
The death of Auberon Waugh in January 2001 marks the end of an era. Auberon and his father Evelyn were masters of the English language. Together they perfected the use of ironic wit.
"Will this Do?" is much more than an autobiography. It is an encapsulation of an era and a culture. His work covers that incredible period of British history (1960 - 1980) where the "old order" Establishment, with its upper class "born to rule" social structures were overthrown.
In that period political satire became part of popular culture. Witness the rise of "smart" young men like David Frost and the circle of comedians that arose from the Cambridge Footlights. The weekly newspaper "Private Eye" was one of the most influential outlets for Auberon Waugh where he wrote a column for many years. The "Eye" did more for exposing political and social scandal in Britain than any other forum.
Waugh's membership of both the "upper" class and influential, activist intellectual circles put he him in a unique position to observe and comment on the quirks and absurdities of his Britain.
Occasionally he was overtly a political activist. The most prominent example was his very public support of the Biafran cause in the Nigerian Civil War in the early 1970s. This put him at loggerheads with the British government.
In Waugh's biography his ironic tone is pervasive. Even those readers who know his work well, will at times struggle to figure out whether he is joking, serious or merely "going over the top".
Auberon's humour didn't travel too well across the Atlantic. He found American's far "too earnest", who take his words too literally. However the gulf in styles of humour between the Anglo and the American world must have been closed to some degree thanks to Waugh's writing.
Waugh's influence on the world of wine was huge. For many years he wrote a wine column in the English "Spectator". In the early 1980's he "discovered" New World (Australian and Californian) wine. Although the Spectator at that time had a subscription base of only 14,000, it was hugely influential. The cellars of the House of Lords were probably restocked on the advice of Waugh. When you look at the exponential growth of New World wine exports since that time we may have a perfect example of viral marketing, thanks to one man's words in an obscure journal.
Many people who are not familiar with the style and wit of Waugh may find his writing pompous and haughty. It is well worth persisting though. He was probably the first writer to do a demolition job on Political Correctness. His favourite targets were the self-righteous. If they happened to be humourless as well (a strong correlation?) they would get both barrels from Waugh.
The influence of both Evelyn and Auberon Waugh will be felt for many years. Any body who loves the English language should read Auberon's autobiography. His work is the ideal example of that old aphorism " The Pen is Mightier than the Sword".
Witty, funny, and eccentric, just like A. Waugh himself........1999-04-17
If you have ever lived amongst the literary or monied class of England, this book is a bittersweet retrospective, a tattle-tale, and an apology all in one. If you haven't, then it seems to be a pompous, overblown biography of a rather ordinary life of a rather unordinary aristocrat. Waugh tells tales of his youth, adolescence, and adult life as best as sees fits, which is to say he writes what he wants you to know, and HOW he wants you to know it. It is, at every turn, witty and funny, and worthy of reading for those reasons alone. For those of you who don't know, Waugh edits the Literary Review magazine, which is available in most English speaking countries, including better parts of the United States.

"After a decade of computerization...our image still has not changed. More importantly, our services have not changed significantly. Books are still our business.... Boolean searching is not the meaning of life. It can, however, help us to find the books we need to make our lives meaningful." So ends this most unusual work of library science. Pressed for time? Not to worry-this book has no beginning, middle or end. It's not meant to be read that way. It should be taken immediately to the staff lounge and left on top of the microwave-just the place to leave it to ensure that it is read.

Product Description
From Publishers Weekly
One senses Waugh doesn't really want his readers to answer the question in his title, because for many it won't do! Those without knowledge of or interest in English literary publications and feuds therein will wonder at so many tempests in such tiny teacups, and those put off by English upper-class pretensions will get an overdose. This eldest son of the curmudgeonly novelist Evelyn Waugh (Brideshead Revisited), who died in 1966, tries to have it both ways: he seems to want the spotlight as a famous man's son, but he also wants his own talent and mordant wit to be judged solely on merit. He tells a rather sad tale. It seems Evelyn Waugh didn't much care for his children, asserting in his diaries that they wouldn't be his first concern in a house fire. His son also claims that his father felt entitled "to advertise an acute and unqualified dislike of [his six children]." This particular Waugh has wandered around the world and written five novels, many book reviews and hundreds of acerbic, often witty columns for periodicals like the Spectator, Private Eye and the New Statesman. This possibly first installment of his autobiography was published in 1991 in the U.K. While offering juicy gossip for aficionados, it seems unlikely that U.S. readers in general will find the book sufficiently interesting.
