Final Flight.......2002-07-31
FINAL FLIGHT is the very moving story of a wife's tribute to her husband Ken, a loving husband and father, who was an Air Force pilot in the 60s. It is filled with the wonderful humor Marge and Ken shared with their family and others in all their various and numerous moves that military service entailed. It is a testimony to their love and at the same time fills you in on what it's like to be a military wife with your husband away a good part of the time, frequent moves, starting new schools for the kids, and how they felt about making new friends. Being a major caretaker of the children, bills, and emergency runs to the hospital, etc. when Ken was away contributed to making Marge a strong independent woman who could take care of herself and her family and you could tell this made Ken very proud to know he had such an excellent backup. Marge could do it all while holding out for her hero Ken. This "Toast to Ken" is a marvelous chronicle of their married life together and a treasured legacy to pass down to the family and future generations.
I loved living through some of the memories of the times described by Ms. Stickevers since I was a young wife and mother during this time too. Marge brought it all back, and I especially admire her candor and her deep caring for her family, friends and country. I felt like I had been given a special gift of love while reading this toast to Ken. His family is blessed by having Marge so beautifully express her love so eloquently, making his final flight live on in their memories forever. Thank you Marge for sharing this book with other readers. A truly touching book.
Suzanne Coleburn, ...
A story of sacrifice and heroism.......2000-12-15
What comes through in this story of a U.S. Air Force pilot and his family is the hardship - often unknown to the rest of us - which our servicemen and their families must endure. This positive, though in the end sorrowful, account of the sacrifices of Ken Stickevers, his wife Marge and their children shines as a beacon for the rest of us to emulate.
From the accounts of his early childhood, his schooling, heroic military service and "learning on the job" as a husband and father, we are able to peer (with license) into the lives and thoughts of a not so common American family. Colonel Stickevers upon retiring continued to fly, but not by the seat of his pants; he lived life in keeping with the words of Sir Winston Churchill: "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give."
A View into a Life and Time of Commitment.......2000-11-23
Final Flight is an account of one family dealing with its time and place in an era of dedication to ones ideals. Many will see a common thread in their own lives if they lived through that time. This is a touching story of a family "doing its best" during a period of what some may identify as a period of political unrest in the country. We need more men like Ken to combat similar problems today.
A Moving Tribute to a True Hero.......2000-11-20
Marge and her children relate real-life experiences that will truly move you. Ken and men like him were the unsung heroes of their generation and we owe them a debt of gratitude - not only for directly protecting our freedom in far-off lands but for setting an example for us to strive to emulate.
I've read it 3 times and passed it along to several of my friends. It has impacted all of them.
An American Hero.......2000-11-11
This is a well written story about one of our nations unsung military heros. It is a bright reminder of the American spirit. Written with humor, it is a book everyone will enjoy

Book Description
Like their predecessors, and like their male counterparts, most women philosophers of the 20th century have significant expertise in several specialities. Moreover, their work represents the gamut of 20th century philosophy's interests in moral pragmatism, logical positivism, philosophy of mathematics, of psychology, and of mind. Their writings include feminist philosophy, classical moral theory reevaluated in light of Kant, Mill, and the 19th century feminist and abolitionist movements, and issues in logic and perception. Included in the fourth volume of the series are discussions of L. Susan Stebbing, Edith Stein, Hedwig Conrad Martius, Simone de Beauvoir, Simone Weil, Mary Whiton Calkins, Gerda Walther, and others. While pre-20th century women philosophers were usually self-educated, those of the 20th century had greater access to academic preparation in philosophy. Yet, for all the advances made by women philosophers over two and a half millennia, the philosophers discussed in this volume were sometimes excluded from full participation in academic life, and sometimes denied full professional academic status.

Interesting...........2007-04-03
Ok, so you want the real scoop, here it is!
In general, this test book, along with Allen's NHA book, is decent study material (just get over the typos and you'll be ok). Why folks complain is because this book, like many others, are filled with opinions, and vague generalities. But here is how you have to study. You buy this book, with the study guide. You buy or borrow the NAB book, and the book by Haacker. You read all three books, and do the study questions... no matter how dumb you think they are. Read Read and Read some more... there is no getting out of studying hard! If it were easy everyone would become an Administrator, right? When you study the test questions I find it is helpful to make up new questions yourself, and ask yourself "why", why is the answer what it is? This is the key to REAL LEARNING. I also recommend you not get bogged down on every single definition in the books, but you must at least get a grasp on what everything means -- this way you should have no surprises.
I hope you read, study, do the questions and make up new ones along the way. Also, call fellow students in your core of knowledge corse to get input. And please, we are all different, so don't go by one person's saying the test is easy (it's not), and don't go by those who flunk, for they did not read read read! Like I say, do your homework and get an excellent grasp on "WHY" "HOW" "WHEN" -- YOU CAN NEVER ASK YOURSELF ENOUGH QUESTIONS! Bottom line, if you study like this YOU WILL PASS! I passed both exams the first go round! I took the NAB test first, then 22 days later I took the State tests. NEVER EVER TAKE BOTH EXAMS ON THE SAME DAY -- YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU DO!
I hope this info helps you. I have great faith in the Lord, so there is nothing I cannot pass on the first attempt, I hope the same holds true for you! Good luck, I will let you go now, you should be reading right now, lol.
Gary from Ohio.
Worthless.......2007-01-19
I memorized every single question in this book and still did not pass the NAB test the first time around. DO NOT waste your money!!
Worthless.......2006-07-01
One word-Worthless!!!!!! This book is about a lot of people's different theories on the nursing home industry, uses terms that my administrator had never even heard of, and basically, just makes no sense at all! And to boot, it cost me $50 with shipping. Do not waste your time even thinking about buying it...
Good but not great........2006-01-18
Def. better than nothing but be sure to study everything and not just this book and the green administrators licensure book.
Much better than the green text book.......2005-12-11
A valuable study guide indeed. I passed the NAB exam a few weeks ago....and this book was a huge help.......a wise investment. Also, for what it's worth.......I had a'lot of experience in LTC (Assistant Activity Director, etc.)....I was also a State Nursing Home surveyor for 4.5 years before starting my AIT........listen up: the NAB is the hardest exam I've ever taken in my entire life! It's the kind of test that'll bring you to tears......trust me on this......study like you've never studied before in your life!!

Exceptional dissertation aid.......2006-01-05
This book has made a huge difference for me. I had been struggling to discover, define, and write my dissertation topic. Dr. Simon's insight and guidance made the difference. I learned the way the components fit. The book removed any doubt I had and informed me how to move forward. I'm now several months ahead in my program, all because of what I learned from reading this book. It is a MUST for every Ph.d student.
Helped Me!!!!!.......2001-11-28
I'm working on my dissertation and needed some plain talk to give me a better understanding of the best way to complete it. Other books were too confusing but this was easy reading! New PhD on the way!!!!!!

Having met the lady, I now understand the powerful message she has included in this book aimed at assisting the researcher and focusing our efforts on preparation and "F.I.S.H" ing....she calles it! "..finding it somewhere henceforth!". She truly takes you by the hand, leads you step by step, and helps those cognitive juices flow , while assisting you at arriving at your journeys end. An excellent book and a must for every beginner ( and experienced!) research orientated person or doctoral candidate!

Wonderful!.......2007-02-19
I have this book as well as another Thimbleberries quilt book. I love them both. The patterns are beautiful and the directions easy to follow. The book includes a variety of projects from Christmas stockings to full size quilts. There are so many things from this book that I want to make. I don't know which to make first! I highly recommend any of the Thimbleberries books.

Customer Reviews:
Be Careful Yet Excited!.......2003-07-15
I love Lynette Jensen and Thimbleberries. The problem is if you already own "At Home with Thimbleberries Quilts" and "The Thimbleberries Book of Quilts" than you already own "The Best Quilts from Thimbleberries". Both books are loaded with great ideas and how-to's Lynette Jensen style. I'd buy them both again should they be lost or stolen, I just don't see the need to own two copies! This could be a great value if you don't already have these books in your collection.

Great Place to Start for New Moms.......2007-07-11
As a new mom, I was overwhelmed by all the "must haves" parents are bombarded with. This book helped me cut through all that and focus on the key elements of designing my hursery. It has great tips about how to avoid chaos (at least in the nursery design!) and streamline, without ever being preachy or intimidating. A Peaceful Nursery is a wonderful guide for anyone getting ready to welcome home a baby and has become one of my favorite shower gifts.
Preparing a Nursery using Feng Shui.......2007-06-13
I bought this item for my granddaughter who is expecting her first child in about three months. She is way into Feng Shui. Her entire home follows the foundation of Feng Shui.
While I did not read the book myself, my granddaughter was very excited and pleased about receiving it. She had looked in the city where she lives and was unable to find such a book.
Based on her enthusiasm, I rate this book highly.
Great gift!.......2006-04-07
I wish I had this book when I set up my childs nursery! It is so easy to read and understand. I have given this book as a gift to many of my pregnant friends and they are really enjoying it. It is a great introduction to Feng Shui as well as a great introduction to parenthood. Getting ready for your baby is often overwhelming and this book is a wonderful resource for how to set up the room, what you will need, and how to keep it clean and healthy. This book is truly a find!
A perfect guidebook!.......2006-03-12
An excellent guidebook to creating the most important room in your house! Very comprehensive but easy to read and understand. I love the checklists which made shopping for the baby so much easier. This book was very helpful for our first baby....a must have for every new parent!
Have a Calm, Welcoming Space for the Baby.......2006-03-08
"The nursery is the most important room in any expectant parents' home, and every parent wants to ensure that it will be as warm, inviting and healthy as possible for their new baby. Designing this special space is also an opportunity for expectant parents to prepare mentally and physically, for the changes to come. Through stylish photographs and practical, easy-to-understand design tips, home and lifestyle experts Laura Forbes Carlin and Alison Forbes show expectant parents how - by applying principles gleaned from interior design, Feng Shui, healthy living and their own parenting experience - they can:
*Create a balanced and peaceful nursery
*Make health conscious choices when selecting paint, fabric, toys and furniture
*Enjoy the practical and emotional benefits of a streamlined and clutter-free home
*Set up a nursery that encourages good sleep for their baby
*Prepare and organize nursing, changing, bathing, sleeping and play areas
*And many more helpful step-by-step guidelines for creating a nursery that will nurture their baby's mind, body and spirit - as well as their own - during their transition into parenthood." (from the author's website)
I think some people resist feng shui, thinking it too "new-age" or something. Actually so much of it seems based on common-sense, once you try it. I like that this book addresses clutter problems too, since many American homes have issues with that. V. Allain
Book Description
Spirit of the Nursery demonstrates how to turn a baby's room from ordinary to special! Readers will discover dozens of creative ideas for bringing in natural light: experimenting with color, bringing comforting scents into the room, and much more. Plus, dozens of full-color photographs offer inspiration as well as ingenuity.
Customer Reviews:
Heartwarming and inspiring.......2003-07-03
I loved this book. I was sick of all the fussy frilly horrors in most nursery books and loved the clear clean cool design of this. Jane Alexander offers practical advice and is particularly strong on the safety aspects of decorating (I hadn't realised how dangerous a lot of common furnishings and furniture are). But she really comes into her own on the psychological and spiritual aspects of creating a nest for your babe. I felt inspired to follow many of her lovely, simple, heartfelt ideas and I'm sure a lot of other moms would feel the same way. Yes, it's a small book but small is often beautiful and a baby's pretty small too. I have bought several for baby showers - they make a lovely little extra gift or a great part of a basket. Truly a little gem.
Useless.......2003-05-20
This book is good if you are interested in a "new age" baby room. I thought it was useless. There were no great ideas and hardly any photos. Its a small book and not worth the money.

Book Description
All parents want to give their babies the very best start in life. From prenatal vitamins and prenatal exercise to Mozart played in utero, they will do anything to give their baby every advantage even before every advantage even before she or he is born. Naturally, they want this enrichment to continue after their bundle of joy arrives. Feng Shui for the Nursery shows them how. "Few things set the tone of a room more than artwork. In the nursery, choose your artwork wisely. For a perfectly harmonious atmosphere, hang five separate pieces, each representing a different earth element. Try stars for fire, a tree for wood, dophins or snowmen for water, a rocket for metal, and a bunny for earth." "The more room chi has to circulate around a crib, the healthier and more restorative its energy will be. To ensure good overall health and development, don't hang anything over a crib and never store anything below." The tips in Feng Shui for the Nursery are neither difficult nor expensive. All they require are desire to affect positive change and a little creativity. With Feng Shui For the Nursery parents will be well on their way to creating a positive nursery environment for their child. It offers a fresh look at welcoming a new baby in ways that will enhance the harmony of the entire home.

Although I enjoyed this book - I wish I would have checked it out from the libary instead of purchasing it. There are only a few words on each page, and not much information overall.
A simple guidebook to applying ancient Chinese principles .......2004-12-10
Feng Shui For The Nursery by feng shui expert Debra Keher is a simple guidebook to applying ancient Chinese principles of harmony, organization, coloring and positive mood-setting to a nursery room. Written in plain and simple terms for the beginner, Feng Shui For The Nursery covers what colors to use, where to position the crib, the magic of mirrors, balancing the five elements in one's furnishings, and more. A direct, easy-to-follow source of ideas and well-meaning guidelines, especially for parents who distrust the common habit of simply slathering the nursery in blue or pink.
Great Book.......2004-12-06
I just bought this book today and couldn't put it down. It's a quick and fun read. A great gift for any mom-to-be, especially those interested in creating the ultimate space for their newborn. I came away with a lot of good ideas such as how to introduce a variety of natural elements (things that represent water, earth, etc) in the room. I know now too that it it is best to place the crib flush against the wall instead of angled in the corner (where I was thinking of puting it). I also have a new location for the bassenette (no longer by the window). There were good suggestions about use of color, where to create a learning space and much more. This book provided a clear, concise and enjoyable read of practical feng shui rules wtihout being overly dogmatic. Cute illustrations too. Enjoy!

Book Description
In the process of creating the massive work that eventually became Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, painter and scholar Giorgio Vasari (1511–1574) spent much of the mid-sixteenth century traveling throughout Italy, meeting Renaissance artists and writing about their lives and works.
From this imposing source, Thomas A. Pallen has created a compendium of theatrical references augmented by related modern Italian scholarship. Vasari's Lives—daunting because of its sheer magnitude—has remained relatively obscure to English-speaking theatre historians. To introduce the numerous scenographic references of this great work to the English-speaking audience, Pallen provides new translations of all relevant passages, as well as a table of cross-references to the principal editions of Vasari in both English and Italian. And because Vasari often omitted important information, Pallen annotates the text, providing important names, places, and historical background.
Essentially, Pallen divides Vasari's work into four categories: triumphs and pageantry, ingegni for mystery plays and festivals, theatrical scenery, and miscellanea and lacunae. Although triumphs and pageantry were not directly theatrical, they were executed by many of the same artists who worked on theatrical productions and either used or introduced many Renaissance Italian theatrical techniques. The works described here range from tableaux vivants and other forms of street decoration to fireworks displays.
While Vasari did not personally know the work of either Filippo Brunelleschi or Francesco d'Angelo (called Cecca), he discusses their inventions for staging mystery plays and street festivals; indeed, Pallen shows how the work of these two artists paved the way for all later Renaissance scenography.
Pallen then deals with Vasari's references to and descriptions of the theatrical scenery and lighting effects of his time and the artists who created them. In accordance with the schema developed by Elena Povoledo, Pallen leads the reader through the evolution of scenographic thought and practice from the elementary work of Girolamo Genga to the advanced settings created by Vasari himself.
