Do you have any trouble with your vision, hearing, spine, lungs, thyroid, heart, stomach, liver, gall bladder, spleen, appendix, adrenal glands, prostate gland, pancreas, genitals, mammary glands, kidneys, bladder, diaphragm, esophagus, or perhaps only have a sore throat? Dr. Norman W. Walker, in _Colon Health: The Key to a Vibrant Life!_, argued that colonics (with a good amount of foot relaxation) was The Answer.

The poorly organized presentation had little to do with colonics, focusing on the miraculous benefits of colonics. Peppered with undocumented case studies proclaiming amazing results, the theory of autointoxication buttresses this book's grand recommendations.

The theory of autointoxication stated that hardened feces on the walls of the large intestine poison the body. Colonics supposedly prevents the accumulation of feces and hence revitalizes the body. There's one little problem though. Innumerable surgical procedures and autopsies falsified a long time ago the claim that hardened feces accumulates on the intestinal walls. With the availability of the internet, one can easily corroborate these observations.

Evidence, shmevidence. Who cares about those science know-it-alls anyway.

Did I mention science? Ignoring what modern physics has to say about the conservation of energy, Dr. Walker wrote "vibrations cause or form energy, and energy is the result of vibrations." Dr. Walker then proceeded to use the wonderful logical fallacy known as argumentum ad ignorantiam over and over again. For instance, inferring from the fact that modern science has not yet achieved a complete understanding of the hypothalamus, Walker deduces that we undetected "cosmic energy vibrations" emanate from the hypothalamus, which through some unexplained mystical process is connected to the midpoint of the colon.

While the doctrine of vitalism was influential in the early 20th century, defended by important philosophers like Henri Bergson, (1859-1941), the discovery of the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid published 1953 by Watson and Crick has made that metaphysical thesis superfluous within biology and medical science. This doesn't deter Dr. Walker, who claimed that foods have vital "life-giving properties." I was amused by the rant against mucus, which supposedly had unhealthy "magnetic" attraction, since mucus basically is glycosylated proteins and inorganic salts suspended in water. Had Dr. Walker ever heard of the germ theory of disease?

This fraudulent book is bad biology, bad medicine, and bad science. I'll be sticking with exercise and a healthy diet and probably will never countenance colonics and cosmic energy vibrations. I recommend the book for bored individuals looking for comedy in unlikely places!

Not just about the colon..........2004-09-27

This book covers all of the organs, not just the colon. He says cows milk is the most mucous forming food, not just pasteurized but even raw! He also says that you should avoid starches. There's also some interesting info on what happens when you eat 2 non-compatible foods at the same time. In the chapter on genitals, he says guys should conserve their sperm, lol. Interesting book!

This book saved my life! (NO JOKE)

At the time I found this book, my colon had been completely shut down and badly impacted. I arrived for a colonic shaking with a high fever and dizzy (I was toxic). I could barely see. After having my first colonic and seeing what came out, blew my mind! I left feeling full of energy, the fever was GONE, I felt GREAT! I had lost 10 pounds with my first colonic!

I refer back to Dr. Walker's books on a regular basis...but this is the gem of all his books! He certainly knew enough to live well over 100 (I think he was 127) and he died in his sleep.

Don't wait until your are sick...look in your phone book under colonics and make an appointment today! After your first colonic, you too will be a beliver.

I've done a 7 day colonic-fast. I am 27, to all appearances a very healthy and fit businessman who was even a vegetarian for 3 years. The amount of waste which came out was unbelieveable, I now understand that I need at least 3 more 7-10 day sessions over a 6 month period to clean out the rest. There were many pieces of rubbery stuff which exactly resembled diverticili, and pounds of general waste coming off the walls of the colon. Find somehere and some time when you can relax, and do it properly...this is not fool'in.

I have read this book as well as Walker's other books, ie. on Juicing, and have found his plan very helpful. It is really an eye opener. If you are not practicing colonics and eating primarily raw foods, I highly suggest you check out this book, no matter what medical difficulties you experience or even if you feel well.

Let me first say that I love barbecuing, and I guess you do, or you wouldn't even be checking this or any other barbecue book. I try to grill my family dinners almost every weekend, so I would have to say that I have put on thousands of barbecues this far. I own several barbecue and grilling books, and this is one of the best. I consider this book great because with the recipes on it I can try every now and then to make something a little bit different (I guess just to avoid a mutiny among my family crew, Ja Ja).

I don't have to do a fancy or hard to find ingredients, or follow step-by-steps a recipe that might requires to long, but I get great ideas that help me introduce variations that keep the weekends barbecues interesting and fun the whole family.

In this book you will find some recipe or idea that you can try, or just learn something new from the "Basics of Gourmet Gas grilling" included at the beginning of the book.

Last, but not least, always enjoy the experience of barbecuing and grilling at home, with or without this book. With your own recipes or with borrowed recipes. Just enjoy the moment and have a lot of fun with family and friends around the grill.

I was always good at BBQ'ing with the Gas Grill, but i ran out of ideas on what to do next. This book is amazing, it opened up a whole new BBQ world to me, and encouraged me to experiment more. There isnt one recipie i tried that i didnt like. My personal favorite is the Briskett!

Keeping a pet macaw.......1997-01-15

This book discusses keeping macaws as pets. It discusses how to tame a wild-caught macaw, and describes the nature of them. It does not describe the various species of macaws, and its photographs are mostly of hybrid macaws (which have fallen out of favor lately). This book is becoming a bit obsolete, but it still provides a reasonable insight into macaws.

Nice glossy pictures. Text very uneven. Much of the advice is dated or simply wrong. Seems like "cut and paste" of some old parrot book from the 70's. We now know that parrots can speak some words in appropriate context and with comprehension. We don't give dog kibble anymore. I don't know of anyone who gives their parrot grit... The book seems to be pure merchandising..it looks pretty so buy it, you find out too late that the content isn't very useful.

This book has gorgeous pictures, but the text is completely worthless. It reads like a so-so beginner's book on parrots from the 1970's. The is much misinformation, such as the statement that macaws do not talk! Do not waste your money on this book like I did.

This is by FAR one of the WORST books I have read or had the misfortune of ordering in a LONG time. Here is a quote straight from this book: "Complement the fresh foods you prepare for your macaw with parrot mixes and dry kibble DOG food." Ummm....They call it "DOG" food for a reason!! Considering the variety of pelleted foods out there made specifically for birds recommeding DOG food is pathetic and inexcusable. The other sad fact in this book is that it seems to condone the breeding of hybrid macaws =(. All in all, there is NOTHING worth recommending about this book. The glossy pictures don't make up for information which in the VERY LEAST will drastically and negatively affect the health and lifespan of your companion bird!!! PLEASE do not buy this book, as neither the publisher (TFH) or the author deserve to profit from a book that would not even be worth using for cage liner!!

An informative, well researched handbook.......2000-06-23

I am very impressed with the research that the author, (Loren Spiotta) instilled into this book. It is very detailed with many helpful pictures. This book is excellent for the person that is thinking about buying a macaw, or wants more informative tips on one that they may already have. I have read it, and will use it for future reference.

It was not clear to me before I purchased this book that the embroidery designs used in this book must be purchased separately -- they were not included on the cd. The book said they were available from Amazing Designs but that does not seem to be the case as they are not available. Very disappointed in this book.

Eileen has done it once again and produced an easy to follow instruction book. The beauty of each design is detailed for one to just want to jump right in and start an embroidered quilt. With the embroidery designs on the cd is well worth the money.

I thoroughly enjoyed this CD. I got some great ideas for my container gardens this year. I love the container garden "recipes" section. I can print out the ones I like and head straight to the garden center. I also love the video clips. Jim Wilson does a great job hosting this CD. He gets down to the nitty gritty basics of container gardening. His presentation style is so down to earth and comes straight from his heart.

I hope to see more gardening CDs with Jim Wilson in the future.

This CD is a great way to learn all about container gardening. Jim Wilson is a wonderful personality and a great teacher. The video clips on this CD show you everything from selecting the right container, the right plants and everything in between. He even tells you different ways to group and display your containers for the best effect. One nice feature of the program is the ability to print out container recipes.

This CD speaks to all ages of gardeners from kids to seniors, and all types of gardeners from beginners to experts. The graphics on the CD are beautiful. Using this CD is a really fun and interesting way to learn.

There are a lot of great features about this CD, but the "recipes" are my favorite part. Jim Wilson provides you with planting recipes for a variety of different containers. If you're like me, and you need someone to tell you what plants go well together, then this CD is for you.

Jim Wilson also provides lots of tips and advice about selecting containers, and there's even a section on making your own hypertufa container!

As Said On Title!! Easier than Easy!.......2006-10-07

I borrowed this book from the library and liked it so much that I'm planning to buy it for myself. This book is very well-written. The author wrote this book in a very easy to understand manner (in the layperson's language) so as not to do "analysis paralysis". Usually authors like to use fancy words and write out alot of unnecessary words to pad the pages, but this book was not that type of work, making it easier for me to read and enjoy. From reading this book, I was able to understand and learn not just how to make Chinese herbal medicine, but I received a lesson on the history and background of Chinese medicine as well. The author also gave 10 suggestions to improve one's health. Of course, the main juice of this book are the recipes for healing different types of illnesses, and these illnesses were sorted alphabetically so you can find them easily like a dictionary. I seriously recommend this book to those people who are learning about Chinese herbal medicine or who would like to have some Chinese herbal medicine formulas handy like a cookbook. Save money and get the paperback version instead.

Being a retired boxer/kickboxer and now in my 40's, I was looking for ways of keeping fit internally and seeking relief from the numerous aches and pains aquired while participating in extreame sports for so many years. This book not only provides many remedies for sports injuries, but for ailments of all kinds. I especially like the way he translates the chinese herbs into botanical language as many of the herbs can be found in our own health food stores.
The only slight complaint is that he doesn't say much about our own american ginseng as it is highly valued by the chinese.
Otherwise I find it to be highly informative for both the novice and advanced student of the ways of herbal healing.

this was a really good book. It gave herbal remedies for illnesses, and also gave the symptoms for those illnesses. This book acted as two books; it gave info on illnesses, AND the herbal formulas to correct those illnesses. my only problem with this book is that in the index, it gives an illness, and then says: see so and so. This is good, but then it gives you a page number. You turn to that page, and there is no info on the illness there, except a little thing saying, illness-see another illness. while this is a little annoying, you have to put up with it, because this book is worth it. Great job!

Hey! This was a great book. Not only because it gives lots of chinese herbal cures to the ilnesses talked about in it, but because it gives symptoms for all those diseases. This book was a relly good guide to staying aware of health. I had never even considered Chinese herbs as effective medicine before i red this book, but now i know better. good job Richard.

This is a delightful and scholarly work that examines the history and cultural significance of tea in Japan. It is a book of stories about great tea-masters and focuses on the most famous and influential of them, Rikyu.

Here is a particularly striking story.

One of Rikyu's guest knew that Morning Glories grew on the hedge in tea-master's garden. Wishing to see these flowers opening in the morning sun, he came to the tea party early but was dismayed to find that all of the flowers had been cut down. However, on entering the tea hut he found that Rikyu had placed a single Morning Glory in a simple bamboo vase in the alcove. He was transfixed by the beauty of the solitary flower and by the realization that Rikyu had deliberately shifted the focus away from the massed flowers of the hedgerow to this isolated specimen. Such were the delicate considerations and expression of the tea-master, and such were the considerations of the society within which he lived.

"Rediscovering Rikyu" offers the reader an engaging insight into an unfamiliar world, a world redolent with Zen metaphysics, jealous and feuding warlords, anguish and ritualistic suicide, the aesthetics of preparing tea, and the transformational beauty of the Morning Glory. It is distanced world, and Herbert Plutschow is a knowledgeable and scholarly guide.

But the book is more than history. It examines tea as a way of approaching, attaining, and sustaining liminality within a Japan that was in a period of ongoing conflict. Plutschow carefully and skillfully examines the deep-core symbolism and tranformative possibilities within the delicate art form or tea.

This is a delightful, readable, and interesting book that provides an unexpected and welcome insight not simply into a different culture but into our own cultures and contemporary preoccupations.

I love this book! The author has researched and presented the subject well. It has put so much of the Tea Ceremony in perspective for me that I am grateful!

It is good to see an objective view, questioning histories coming from sources which rely on information from the Iemoto schools themselves. In the development of most Iemoto systems a loosely based and often fictious history is created, what the Chinese called "Leaning on the Ancients." However, these histories don't usually withstand the test of time and academic scrutiny. This is one of those wonderful books that sheds light on the subject, and allows us to see something of the real history.
