One of the tTop ten easy fast meals...........2003-10-11
I found this cookbook at the library and plan on getting my own copy. Easy to read, very nice pictures, simple, fast, with less than 10 ingredients for almost every recipe. The books divided into section starting with 10 Quick Recipes You Can't live Without, Lighter Fare, Pronto Soups and Main Dish Salads, Quick Meaty Main Dishes, No-Fuss Poultry Fish and Seafood, Easy Pasta Grains and Beans, On the Side, and Simply Delicious Dessers. Nothing real fancy and nothing calling for expensive ingredients like many cookbooks I've seen. The recipes can also be changed to meet anyones preference. Spice it up, add more vegetables, or substitute. Some of my favorites are the 3-Step Enchiladas, Speedy Beef Stew, Apricot-Glazed Pork, and the Quick Jambalaya. Some call for frozen vegetables which I've found saves money because they won't spoil before I can get to them like fresh veggies do. For some of the chicken dishes, to save time, I buy a rotissouri chicken and take what I need for that recipe and use the rest for another dish or for lunches the next day. It's great for chicken salads too. This book is perfect!

This book has it all, from basic biology to handling, breeding, feeding and health care tips and much much more including several colour pictures of just about every snake imagionable. This book is very well written plus the author has a wonderful sense of humor. It is geared more toward the amateur herper although I an sure that all experienced herpers will enjoy reading this book. An absolute must for amateur herpers.

Lenny Flank writes great books on snakes and lizards. This one contains so much information it's almost like an encyclopodia--except that it's fun to read. A definite must for all devotees.

The book is not a complete waste of time to read, *but* it is a complete waste of your money (perhaps check it out from your local library...).
The author is not a professional and doesn't possess any formal or academic background in the field; he is a hobbyist. This is all well and good, but if I want precise information on how to properly care for my snake, it certainly wouldn't be from another hobbyist.
Overall, the book does provide decent supplemental information from another hobbyist, but it is certainly not up to being one's primary or sole source of information to caring for your snake. In this respect, it is wholly lacking.
If the reader is seeking expert, *qualified* information (and if you genuinely care about your snake), he or she certainly will not find it in this book.

Really enjoy the patterns and instructions from Lynette Jennings. I find her books easy to follow. But you can tell it is an older book because I know in the later books she gives ways of making patterns easier (less piecing, eg star pattern). But I thoroughly enjoy her books.

Lynette produced another wonderful book. I loved the patterns as well as the graphics. Her instructions are easy to follow and the end-product just gorgeous. Her color pattern fits any decor and help make any house a home.

I just received this book yesterday and have already selected and begun work on two different quilts. The instructions, diagrams, pictures, patterns, colors are all wonderful! This will be one of my top books in my collection. Back to quilting!
Country But Not Too Cute.......2000-08-03
I love to buy quilt books, perhaps it's an addiction. This is one of the few books I will read over, again and again. There is a real warmth to her colors and her quilts, without being too cute (like Debbie Mum). I could even make one of these quilts for my 18 year old son without complaints. Even if you don't quilt, I think you would enjoy seeing how she incorporates her quilts into her decor. If you do quilt, even better! Your only dilemma will be in trying to decide which quilt to make first.

Unusually well-researched book on baby issues.......2005-08-10
I see from many of the less than stellar reviews here that people are looking for practical guides to help them get their baby to sleep. While this book does offer very practical advice in one of its final chapters, the whole approach of this writer is to stress that you do what feels right for you and your child rather than follow any prescriptions.
I am currently three months pregnant and this is the third baby-related book I've read. The first two gave me a humorous/cutesy introduction to pregnancy and I was ready to move on to something more science and research-based. While this book isn't about the same topic, I would conclude that most other baby books are written in a very populist style so the people who gave negative reviews about this book here are taken aback by this writer's reliance on research to bring her points across.
I think it is the duty of every future parent to learn of the parenting methods out there and decide for themselves what is best for their baby and their way of life. The next book I'm reading is called The New Contented Little Baby Book by Gina Ford, which advocates the complete opposite approach to what Three in a Bed is about: the former prescribes very strict discipline and turning your child into a little robot, while the latter is all about listening to your instincts and letting the child's needs dictate your parenting. I am deliberately reading both because I want to hear both sides. My heart tells me Three in a Bed is the best, because I slept with my parents when I was little and I still recall the feeling of extreme comfort and security that I had at the time.
Life Changing.......2005-07-12
I put into practice nearly all of the advice offered in this book and found my experience to be as positive and rewarding as the author suggests. I felt very strongly about my desire to co-sleep with my son. This book offered me the support and evidence to back up my feelings and defend them to those who thought my decision was wrong and even dangerous. So many people told me my son would never want to leave my bed. This book explained why that did not have to be the outcome of co-sleeping with him. And as the book describes, he left my bed of his own accord, proud to be a "big boy" in his own bed! I highly recommend this book to anyone who might be considering co-sleeping with their infant!
So far upseting.......2005-04-27
I bought this book and havent read it completly through yet. I currently fallow the concepts of attachment parenting, so I thought a book about co-sleeping would be my next good parenting read. I could pick up a horrible feeling from the author in just a few chapters. She writes making good arguments for sleep sharing, but makes it sound like we do it because we resent our babies and just dont want to have to deal with them crying. Yes, I choose to sleep share at first becaus eme and my husband got more sleep, but its not just about us, we actually enjoy having our son with us - being able to craddle him and really love him. This book makes co sleepers look bad, like we have some horrible motive and dont really do it for the bonding time with our babies. I say if you want to do sleep sharing it wouldnt hurt to read this book, but it is not the best to make you feel good about being a parent. I have read books by Dr William and Martha Sears and they have been the best I have found. They have a wide variety of books with topics such as sleep sharing, breastfeeding and baby wearing.
SLEEP WITH YOUR KIDS! .......2004-10-27
This is the book I got right after my son was born, and I was exhausted from trying to get him to sleep in his crib. I was crying every time I failed and took him into bed with me. That was the only time we slept- him next to me, nursing. But the guilt was killing me! I didn't want to answer anymore "Is he sleeping through the night?" questions and I was getting a lot of advice like: "Once you out him in your bed- you'll never get him out!" This book, and it's well researched info changed my mind forever and after reading it, we got a bedrail and slept well every night since. Now my son is 3, and sleeps in his bed most of the time, but snuggles in with us and his baby sister when he needs it. It's not always comfortable, but kids are only small for a short time and someday, they'll be too big and to independent to snuggle with us like this! USE YOUR INSTINCT!
the best night's sleep.......2004-07-07
I found this book particularly interesting for it's background of the misguided history behind the Western tradition of putting children down to bed by themselves. It also contains narrative of the author's personal experiences with her own children.
The book also addresses naysayers (such as have been in the news in 2003) in its criticism of how data is being collected and interpreted by researchers.
I can't believe that some other readers are reporting this book useless simply because it doesn't tell you exactly how far from your body you should place the baby nor report which brand of this-and-that you should purchase!
This is not an instruction manual because it thoughtfully presumes that the reader will employ some instinct and good sense before sharing her bed.

A diary from ancient japan.......2001-03-30
Murasaki Shikibu was one of the most active and brilliant ladies at the Heian court. Her best-known work, "Genji monogatari", is a masterpiece of japanese litarature. But, apart from "The tale of Genji", she has left us her diary and poetic memoirs. In this "translation and study" (a text full of notes and commentary) professor Bowring, through shrewd remarks and penetrating analysis, shows us a world made of ceremonies, depicted screens, scented essences, poetry, love affairs, colours, silks and brocades, evoking a series of vivid and moving impressions. I like this book because it's a great mirror of a wonderful microcosm from a time now past.
