A firsthand report of what Vietnam was really like........1999-05-26
As I read this book, I was at times thinking this had to be fiction because it could not have been this bad. Mankind is not that cruel. No piece of land was worth all those lives. Yet, we knew the author and knew that this was indeed how it was. Mankind was that cruel. The land wasn't worth all those lives; freedom was! To know what our troops went through and to see how America cast them away is a shame we as Americans can never erase. No apologies will undo the agony witnessed and the horrors of war that this book details in "no holds barred" graphics. A must reading for anyone who never thanked our troops for their stay in Vietnam! I could not put the book down because it was such an eye opener for me. I was like a lot of other Americans who didn't get involved with what was happening "over there" and certainly did not understand, as I do now, what price our troops really paid. I plan to go to the Vietnam Memorial and pray for forgiveness for my apathy.

Customer Reviews:
Amazing..........2007-09-04
This is my Favorite Vegan book of all time. It talks about everything to concerns all the way to benefits of Veganism. They even added a small cookbook for beginners. This book motivated me to be Vegan (Have been for 9 months)! Worth the money!
Very insightful and helpful.......2006-12-09
I have been a vegetarian for 10 years but said many times that I would never become vegan. I didn't see why I should, it just seemed too extreme when being vegetarian was beneficial enough to animals, right? A friend recommended this book to me, and after reading just a few chapters I was enlightened. I had no idea the dairy industry was just as cruel as the meat industry, or that the meat industry even gets its low-grade chicken and beef from the dairy farms. I immediately transitioned into vegan, and it's not something that I regret. I can't look at eggs the same way!
Aside from the background information on the various animal industries, the information included in this book is priceless. It covers everything from how veganism started to "hidden" animal by-products, to living compassionately even when you have unwanted pests (rodents and insects!). This is the #1 source you'll want if anyone ever gives you a hard time about being vegan!
Note that you shouldn't read this if you're dead set in your ways and don't want to know the grim truth about the meat and dairy industries.
viva vegan!.......2006-08-11
I have been a vegetarian for 10 years and then I started eating meat when I was pregnant because I listened to people instead of educating myself.
I gained massive weight. I didn't feel good and I started having serious bouts of depression. You are what you eat!!
This book helped me make the easy transformation of becoming a vegan! I now understood that we are eating stressed out animals that are treated poorly before they die.
Since becoming a vegan I no longer take anti-depressants, I have boundless energy and I am truly happy! If you want to be a happy and healthy person go vegan and purchace this book! It will guide you into a wonderful lifestyle.
Tool for the Vegan Awakening!.......2006-03-28
Before I read The Vegan Sourcebook, I thought being Vegan was just about what I ate. Joannne Stepaniak explains in detail the elements of being Vegan, the philosophy behind Veganism and how to live and relate in a non-Vegan world. While reading this book I realized that I have lived in an unconscious state my whole life and this book has changed my way of thinking and doing. Its as if I had been living in the dark and the light has finally switched on!
Stepaniak clearly tells the basics of Veganism, the truth about the meat/dairy industry and how we can impower ourselves to be Vegan on a spherical level. I feel that The Vegan Sourcebook was written in a very gentle way. Without ramming her views down your throat, Stepaniak clearly shows the reader how to change the way they buy products with hidden animal ingredients, basic Vegan nutrition with great receipes, and how to become compassionate with ALL living creatures. I especially enjoyed the comments by famous Vegans throughout the book.
Very Informative.......2005-09-18
A good read for anyone who is considering being a vegan or already is one. Gives good overview on a lot of topics concerning the ethical reasons for being a vegan. A definite read for anyone looking to learn something about veganism.

Customer Reviews:
Delicious Soups ... Easy Preparations ..........2000-02-24
For those who love to warm the home and heart with great soups but can't take the whole day to cook this is a terrific resource. The recipes are based on common ingredients, the instruction is clear and the results are a treat!
This is a great cookbook to have on your "everyday" shelf - to grab when it's cold and rainy outside and you don't really want to run to the market to prepare a great dinner.
Enjoy...
This book is the main ingredient for excellent soup........1999-01-25
Before I had a copy of "A Good Day for Soup", soup to me was chicken noodle in a can (yuck, those mushy noodles!). Now, having sampled over half the recipes in this culinary treasure, soup is not only warm and delicious, but a fun and creative experience. There is a recipe for just about any mood or any ingredient in your fridge, from Curried Chicken Chowder to Ball Park Soup. This cookbook guarantees a warm, nourishing meal for one or for a crowd. I hope the authors read this review, because I'd like to offer them my thanks.
New look to classic soups.......1998-12-05
We recently bought this book based on its design. A smart looking cookbook with no pictures? Definately. As we have been trying the receipes, we have been very impressed with the subtle flavors of the various dishes and less impressed with the design of the book. The fish soups, and in particular, the Carrot and Mussel soup, are wonderful. I have been less impressed with the "slender soup" section, but then of course, that may have something to do with the lack of fattening ingredients and better offerings in other vegetarian cookbooks for example. My one complaint with the cookbook is that I would have preferred an order to the soups based on main ingredients rather based on themes such as "festive" or "slender". The ingredients used are generally easy to find here in Seattle, and most of the receipes seem to be reasonably easy to prepare and economical.

Customer Reviews:
Nice basic patterns.......2007-08-21
I have had this for a year or two now, and have knitted a child's jumper out of it (I tend to collect knitting books for inspiration rather than to follow patterns).
The patterns are all solid useable pieces which is what I like as I'm a knitter for every day wear rather than a knitter for occasional wear.
If you are looking for edge of fashion knitting this probably isn't your book. If you are looking for practical everyday wear using simple patterns then this is a great book. I am pleased with it as an additional book in my library.
Hannah Broitman - Avid Knitter .......2005-08-09
The baby patterns in this book were good. In fact, the reason for buying the book was because of the baby patterns. However, the patterns for the adults were not exciting.
Practiced beginner projects that make you look experienced.......2004-07-30
I haven't knitted for 15 years (which basically makes me a beginner again) and wanted to pick it back up now that I'm home with our new baby. Because I didn't want to spend months just knitting scarves but knowing I wasn't ready to attempt complicated designs, I tried this book. I practiced some stiches on scrap yarn, then started with one of the infant sweaters. It was fairly easy as long as I took my time at some of the shaping areas. The outcome was wonderful even though I used less-expensive yarn (Debbie Bliss yarns are beautiful but expensive) that had the same gauge. All of the designs are charming - most are for infants and toddlers with a few for adult women. The patterns are easy to read and I especially like that she includes finished measurements so that I could knit in a few extra rows for my daughter who is a bit taller than the standard measurements. So if you are a beginning knitter who is now comfortable with common stitches you can knit these designs and end up with more than just another scarf in your closet.
Another Winner!!!.......2002-01-11
I LOVE this book. I must admit that I do own all that Debbie Bliss has published-- but this is really a great book. I am already making the Fair Isle Dress for my daughter-- and I LOVE the mohair pillows and throw. Also some adorable layette items,
and classy womens wrap sweaters. Another magnificent Debbie Bliss knitting book to add to your collection!

A practical guide to making dreams come true.
Customer Reviews:
One of the BEST Self-Help Books Out There!.......2007-05-16
I'm on my second read of this incredible book by Doreen Virtue. Some of her insight is unlike anyone else in the circle of self-help or metaphysics.
This book has the perfect balance of her own life examples with actual step-by-step advice on redirecting your time and energy in order to complete your true desires.
The amazing thing about this book is that each bit of instruction is nothing new and yet, quite honestly, it's as if I knew nothing about any of the things she talks about; her point of view and real life examples are that refreshing that the information takes on an entirely new light.
I really like her style of writing. It's very easy to read. It's light. It's friendly. And it's usable. Most of us procrastinate because different steps or goals seem too hard. Doreen makes everything seem so effortless that you just want to start making your dreams happen. And, once you do, you wonder why you've been putting things off for so long.
If you're a procrastinator or someone who wants to accomplish goals that you believe are "too big" then you need to read this book. If you're unhappy with your current circumstances and want something else but can't figure out how to get it, read this book.
Highly recommended. Good job, Doreen.
Arguably Doreen Virtue's Best Book.......2006-09-12
I absolutely loved this book. It is helpful, possitive and a lot more down-to-earth then I'd expected. Of course it also has that extra bit of magic that Doreen Virue adds.

I'd Change My Life if I Had More Time: A Practical Guide to Making Dreams Come True
FROM THE PUBLISHER
If you dream of something more, perhaps a more fulfilling love live, a more satisfying career, or a well toned body, but just don't feel that you have the time to take care of these things, then this is the book for you! Doreen tells you how to make your dreams come true, even on a tight schedule. She reveals the secrets to balancing all the aspects of your life no matter how overbooked things seem to be.
"I'd Change My Life If I Had More Time".......2000-04-24
It was a wonderful experience reading this book. It was somewhat similar to self-help books yet at the same time a bit different. It showed you how to find practical ways to accomplish your goals. It was not one of those books that says you have all of the time there is in each day broken down into hours and minutes. The author was someone you could relate to in everyday life. She had a hectic schedule and was realistic in how she shows you to use small chunks of your time to get things done even when you have a hectic lifestyle. I just finished this book and I have noticed a greater sense of fulfillment and accomplishment already in my life. This book was a book I will definitely read again and again. I am now looking for more books to read written buy this author. You will get more than your money's worth when you purchase this practical and inspiring book.

Book Description
What does strategic planning for public and non-profit purposes look like? How does strategic planning differ from other kinds of planning, and how can these different approaches be reconciled? How can strategic
planning and
implementation be linked effectively to create
strategic management? How can strategic management for public and non-profit purposes be tailored to fit differing circumstances, including those facing governments, public agencies, state enterprises, privatized enterprises, and non-profit organizations? What is the proper role for elected or appointed policy boards when it comes to strategic management? How can participation by key stakeholders be managed? How should various planning tools be used in strategic planning?
This selection of papers from
Long Range Planning-The International Journal of Strategic Management provides answers to these questions by presenting a variety of approaches to the improvement of strategic thinking and acting for all those who wish to sharpen their skills and improve their strategic planning and management efforts for public and non-profit purposes. It also describes some of the problems which can occur in the application of what is fast becoming a standard part of the management repertoire of public and non-profit organizations.

This series of biographies presents the great composers against the background of their times. Each draws on personal letters and recollections, engravings, paintings and, when they exist, photographs, to present a complete picture of the composer's life.
Customer Reviews:
This is a good, thorough beginning book on Shostakovich.......1999-05-06
Over the course of the last few months I have been nursing an ever increasing love of Shostakovich. This is the first book I have read on the master and, in light of other readings I have done (Volkov, Fanning, MacDonald, Wilson)this turned out to be a good primer. Its strength lies in that (outside from a few quotes from Testimony) it stays away from the Volkov controversy and focuses mostly on facts (i.e. who Zhdanov, Sollertinsky, Meyerhold were, the political horrors of Stalin, his major works in relationship to his life). For those searching for a book a that isn't too daunting, but will still give them a thorough introduction, this is a good start.
Customer Reviews:
A Righteous Gentile - A Righteous Read.......2007-07-31
The Letters and Dispatches of Raoul Wallenberg provide a glimpse of a man who paid, somewhere and somehow in the Soviet Union, the ultimate price for his efforts to bring others to safety. While much is now debated about the benefits of neutrality to Sweden during the Holocaust, what cannot be debated is the intentionality of this man to provide Hungarian Jews a safe haven in Sweden, saving them from Hitler's death camps. An excellent read, this work provides insight through Raoul's own words and the responses of those he wrote to. Introductions to the letters and dispatches provide an excellent framework, assisting the reader with historical perspective, relational understanding and context.
