A Spiritual oasis of Selfless Service and Divine Love.......1999-11-06
Meditation leads to Superconsciousness and for many people an experience of bliss and ecstacy that surpasses understanding. Imagination and sleep lead to the subconsciousness. Meditation leads to actual God contact! Paramahansa Yogananda infused truely dead dogmatic and old crystalized forms with a Spirit and life that had been missing for many of us in religious words and phrases that had lost their meaning. This man of God, lived what he spoke and through his autobiography more people will awaken to greater "consciousness"(another word for "Soul"). This book, "Autobiography of a Yogi," is infused with Light and Love Divine literally. Here true seekers will be true finders. Since the book is authorized by Self Realization Fellowship (his only true organization authorized by him to promote his teachings) one will find the super jet plane path off the wheel of birth and death (reincarnation). A true teacher such as Yogananda is rarer than you might imagine. And Autobiography of a Yogi (his evolution/remembrance) was written in a manner that was for me, very entertaining! More fun than Science Fiction--because it is TRUE! This is possibly, a starting point for the change you have unknowingly wanted all your life. Yoganada brings from the East light that reveals to us more than we may have known about our Western path. The blend of the two paths is Light Divine. I've read it three times. And all my friends and family agree--Yogananda was an enlightened being. A true gift from God. Leading many souls back to God. (Buy it, read it, contemplate it. Come to it with an open mind and heart). Fear not--it is a great read! 5 Stars!

Mindless exercise may improve circulation and trim fat, but what does it do for the being within the body? Instead of zoning out (reading magazines on the treadmill, planning shopping lists while jogging), Carolyn Scott Kortge encourages readers to zone into the exercise through mindful walking. Like yoga, spirited walking is a form of meditation in motion, offering physical rewards as well as mental and spiritual benefits. The wonderful irony of conscious exercise is that by giving the mind a steady focus, you get the rest you seek, writes Kortge. Kortge, who has extensive journalism experience, offers clarity and personal anecdotes, as well as specific advice. Topics include breath work, affirmations, how to structure a meaningful walking routine, maintaining motivation, and embarking on a walking pilgrimage. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
Walking surpasses jogging as most people's favourite form of exercise by five-to-one. The Spirited Walker introduces the idea of expanding one's walking regimen from simply a physical workout to a spiritual one - a fitness routine for the body and soul. Drawing upon the Buddhist concept of the `walking meditation' - spiritual practice on the move - Kortge offers instruction and encouragement for: Developing a walking routine Learning and using proper walking techniques Developing awareness and focus while walking Practicing techniques for increased attentiveness, peacefulness and tranquility.Using breathing exercises, visualizations, and active affirmations.A unique approach to spiritual development, Kortge's methods are simple, eminently practical, and rewarding for men and women of all ages and physical conditions. Beautifully written and gently inspiring, the Spirited Walker is one of the first books to explore the hidden and profound benefits of this enormously popular sport, offering a spirited new lesson in the pursuit of good health.
Customer Reviews:
The Spirited Walker.......2007-05-15
This is an excellent book for anyone who is just starting to walk or for someone who walks on a daily basis. I highly recommend it.
Dennis.......2004-10-16
Though not a race walker, I'm well beyond fittness walking, walking faster than many others run. It's hard to find a book that takes you beyond fittness walking, but this one does. It has plenty of material for the beginning or average fittness walker, but also has lots of exercises for those who are ready to take thier practice to the upper levels.
I also love the fact that there are also plenty of exercises for those who would like to combine thier spiritual practices with thier fittness routine. This is very practical those of us who have many demands on our lives & little time to go around.
Motivational.......2003-12-29
I enjoyed this books suggestions on using mantras to encourage yourself to go that extra distance. It is written with the beginner and beyond in mind to motivate you to bring more "sacredness" in to a simple act that we often take for granted. It isn't packed with alot of technical information about aerobic walking but does suggest reliable resources for the absolute beginner. It also includes the author and other's stories of "flagging motivation" and how they were able to overcome it by bringing more mindfulness to the situation. This is key not only in walking but in life in general (try the mantra exercise the next time you need motivation to get that laundry folded or wash those dishes!) If you're looking for something to motivate you to put more "pep in your step" this is one great book to do it.
Doing it!.......2001-07-10
I've found this book remarkably helpful. As one who has not exercised for some time due to health problems, I am just getting back into exercise by walking. I'm finding this book helpful with ideas of how to walk to keep things interesting and moving forward physically and mentally. It also keeps me inspired. I read a little every couple days just to keep my interest and inspiration levels up. I've found it very helpful and would recommend it to anyone, whether a beginner at exercise or one who has been walking physically but would like more "spirit" in it.
Full of inspirational gems and practical advice.......2001-06-13
This book is terrific for a beginner or experienced walker. She will get you out your door and moving! It's very easy to read, and conducive to looking at a chapter or two at a time. She writes especially well about working through mental blocks, and assures the reader that *every* walker has a moment in *every* work-out when s/he wants to give up. She also gives sound advice about stretching and walking form with some simple illustrations. She encourages readers to connect to their own spirituality without espousing a particular religion or belief system. I no longer wear headphones regularly when I walk because of this book: she's helped me turn my walks into truly active meditation, refreshing me mentally with every step. I tried one of her ideas of silently repeating a phrase while I walk ("I am fit, and I am strong") -- and it powered me through hundreds of training miles and my first marathon! Share this book with friends who think they're not athletes, and watch her inspire them to change their self-perception. Great advice for a 15-minute or 15-mile walk, and highly recommended by this Team in Training marathon alumna and Avon 3-Day Walk veteran.

Customer Reviews:
The Uncommon Gourment Gets Even Better.......2003-04-12
Once again Ellen Helman has shared with us her ability to create new and exciting recipes that are easy to understand, contain ingredients found in most kitchens or at almost any market, and are a perfect enhancement to all recipe collections. This time we are even allowed to enter into the Uncommon Gourmet pantry to
see the whats and whys or certain products.
The fruit and pudding section contains several "fast recipes" that are sure to put a perfect touch on the end of a meal. The Chocolate Pudding Cake brings back great memories of comfort food and the Peach Kuchen will convince even the diehard who "never touches dessert" that maybe some things are worth sampling.
I look forward to book four....
Book Description
This ia a book atypical of other gourmet fare. The 400+ easy-to-prepare recipes are perfect for family meals, casual get-togethers, or special occasions. The recipes range from tantalizing appetizers to sinful desserts. quick and easy sauces, chutneys, and seasonings add that special touch to dishes without the handwringing so often accompanying complicated recipes. The book is user-friendly and contains menus for putting together well-balanced, tasty meals. The recipes encompass both the ethnic and traditional foods and flavors of the 1990s and will turn any meal into a culinary event. This is the companion book to The Uncommon Gourmet.
Customer Reviews:
This REALLY IS the best cookbook I own.......2006-11-19
I love to cook and have many many cookbooks - this is the one I take with me when I travel to a cottage - I know it will have something for every time - the company, the family, the lazy night - all delicious and nothing too intricate - you can put together a great meal relatively quickly- I particularly love the suggested menus in the margin on each page - makes life pretty easy - lots of "a bit different' touches in this book - I now give it regularly as a gift, which is how I got it! buy this book if you like to cook!
Best cookbook I've ever used.......2004-02-04
I managed to somehow pick up this book in a remainders section while it was out of print and it proved to be incredibly good luck. All the recipes are very easy to make and almost all have recieved rave reviews.
This book is available!!.......2002-10-02
I just picked up a copy of this book (and the original Uncommon Gourmet) ... and it wasn't [amount] only [amaount]. I was also told that there is a new book coming out by Ellen Helman in November. They are both wonderful books and I am glad that both are now readily available.
Help!.......2001-01-07
I have been trying to find a copy of this book for a year and a half! I have been borrowing it from friends who own it! Why is it out of print? Please bring it back. Anyone have one to sell?
Why on earth is this out of print???.......1999-10-12
This book is elegant, simple (to the point of being foolproof), and full of variety. It's one of my very favorite cookbooks. I wanted to send it to a friend as a present, and I was astounded to find that it's unavailable, because it deserves to be a best seller! I hope it comes back soon.
Book Description
This is the original Ellen Helman cookbook. The philosophy of this book is that gourmet food need not be elaborate and difficult to make, but fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The preparations reflect this "uncommonly" simple approach. With her easy-to-follow recipes, she presents imaginative, innovative ways of saucing and seasoning foods geared to the busy working world. Here is a collection of more than 300 dishes that will romance your sense and elevate home cooking to new heights. Originally published in 1990, this book has been a requested favorite and is now in its 8th printing.

Back in print!.......2002-10-02
I just picked up a copy of this book (and the The Uncommon Gourmet's All-Occasion Cookbook) from the publisher (Font & Center Press -- Massachusetts). I ordered it directly but Amazon.com should be able to order copies -- and it wasn't $125.00 only $21.95. I was also told that there is a new book coming out by Ellen Helman in November. They are both wonderful books and I am glad that both are now readily available.
Best Cookbook To Own.......2000-06-16
Cooking is my main hobby and I collect cookbooks. This is by far my favorite and most used one. I turn to it time and again for the simple, yet extremely tasty recipes. It never ceases to amaze me that they all produce marvelous results. This is even more amazing given the wide variety of recipes from every type of cuisine. Easy to follow intructions and simple lay out add to this book's appeal. WHY IS THIS BOOK OUT OF PRINT?
Fabulous cookbook with loads of easy to make, elegant dishes.......1999-11-02
I love to cook and own many classic cookbooks, but there is none that I use more frequently than this one. The recipes are uncomplicated, yet delicious, and are suitable for both entertaining and every day meals. Unfortunately, after several years of continuous use, my book is falling apart! I hope the publisher reprints it soon, so that I can purchase a couple of spare copies!
EVERY RECIPE FANTASTIC!!!.......1999-05-07
I have shared this book with many friends. Every meal is an award winner that I prepare from this book.
My favorite cookbook by far........1999-04-09
I can rely on the Uncommon Gourmet to prepare impressive meals in little time. Most recipes require five to seven ingredients, which I usually have on hand. I've made quite a few meals that people keep requesting (such as the spinach, goat cheese and smoked salmon salad). I have seven friends who want this book. They think I'm holding out on them, so I'm amazed that this cookbook is out of print!

Sunbonnet Sue.......2007-01-16
This item was purchased for my wife, who had briefly seen a copy locally, and wished to have her own edition.
Since receiving it, and having had a chance to read it more thoroughly, she is delighted with the product, as it contains material information which enhances her knowledge of the subject in which she is interested.
Needle Turn Applique Your Sunbonnet Sues........2005-11-14
In addition providing many patterns for Sues and Sams and possible variations, this book provides clear directions for needle turned applique. This applique method produces incredible results and is not really that hard once you get the hang of it. Sue Linker is an expert applique artist and her work is just stunning. The directions in this book tell how she does it!
Sunbonnet Sue:All Through the Year.......2005-07-27
Lots of how to plus many ideas for making both Sue's and Sam's. Lots of easy to use patterns.
A worthwhile present.......2000-09-10
It may not be that appropriate to say I have purchased a good book, but I reckon it is a worthwhile present. My wife got it for her 43rd brithday. She found that she could make a good start with the book and with the help from her friends who were into quilting, she made her first project with patterns from this book. I am proud and happy to have purchased it for her. She had also passed it around and many of her friends had found great inspiration with it. I strongly recommend others who like to make a start or get ideas to have this book.

Book Description
Resistance--any attitude or behavior of the therapist, patient, or system that resists change--is integral to every therapeutic relationship. Family therapists are all too familiar with challenges to their professional credentials, families' reluctance to convene for treatment, cancellations, rejection of therapy, requests to exclude a family member, and numerous other maneuvers that frustrate therapeutic goals. Mastering Resistance presents concrete, accessible strategies for coping directly with specific, commonly encountered problems of resistance. Moreover, it demonstrates how resistance can effectively be used to foster a stronger therapist-client alliance.

Jonza's first biography is exceptional.......2002-05-30
Nancylee Jonza has done a remarkable job of taking the life of a gifted writer and turning it into a wonderful biography. Her research took her across America in search of letters, notes and manuscripts of Ms. Gordon, and Jonza has pulled together the results of her discoveries into a terrific book. The Underground Stream is a warts-and-all portrait of a writer's life, her life's struggles and her autobiographical writings. Who'd a thunk that the life story of a Southern writer would be so fascinating? Great work, Nancylee! I can't wait for your next book.

Excellent Window.......2002-11-15
Certain essays from this book were requirements for an international relations class I took. After reading two of the stories I had to read the entire book. It is a truely excellent window into the effects of the atomic bomb on humans. It took me below the mushroom cloud, it was graphic, gripping, and effective. It does not focus on justifications for the bomb, it focuses purely on the effects. I plan on buying it in the near future because it is such an excellent testimonial.
