I have one of Belleruth's other meditation CD's and I thought I'd give this one a try during the last few weeks of my pregnancy. I was told by my OBGYN that my baby was too big for me to deliver vaginally and I would end up having a C section. I just had a gut feeling this was incorrect. So I started doing alot of meditation and this CD: Health Journeys absolutely made all the difference in my labor and delivery. I did the meditation once a day and even did it during active labor. It just helped me to visualize how I wanted things to go and really connect with my baby so we could do it together without stress.
There are 2 CD's and both of them are valuable...I mostly did the one for labor and delivery. I highly highly highly recommend this meditation CD....IT WORKS!!!

Not only did I enjoy this tape, It made my home birth go wonderfully! I listened to it daily for a large part of my pregnancy. Found that on days that I didn't listen I was more emotional and hormonal. As long as I took 30 min. to listen either morning or night, I was a very calm pregnant lady with a wonderfully positive home birth as a result. Her voice is lovely.

I loved the pregnancy cd and I did not care for the childbirth cd. She has a very soothing voice, the background music is perfect and her guidance is excellent for the pregnancy meditations. I thought her childbirth cd lacked a lot of guidance and didn't provide the support I needed to get through the really intense contractions. I think if your looking for cd to help you get through labor and delivery this isn't it. However this is a must for all pregnant women, its a wonderful break from everyday stress and introduces many positive thoughts.

I cannot say enough positive things about Belleruth Naparstek's guided imagery and affirmations. In fact, I used her Help for Infertility when my husband and I were sent to a specialist and were told that we couldn't get pregnant on our own. Surprise! We did - without any help from our new doctor! I gave birth to a healthy, alert, baby girl -- no drugs, no epidural, and no episiotomy - just Belleruth Naparstek's soothing voice guiding me. My doctor even patted my shoulder afterward and said, "I have to tell you, I'm impressed...and I don't impress easily." Our little girl, whose name means Miracle, was 8lbs, 4ozs. at birth. I had the most unforgettable childbirth experience thanks to this wonderful set! Hospital staff were amazed, my mother and husband in awe! They were truly a Godsend!

Belleruth's series is a wonderful set of tools that I highly recommend. I remember how much I appreciated it when my therapist gave me a set of these tapes because I was having so much trouble relaxing and learning to meditate. I used to spend my time worrying about how I wasen't relaxed enough! I found this particular series to be very accessible and pleasant. Belleruth's voice has a kind and maternal tone that lulls you easily into a meditative state. As a psychologist, I believe that relaxation and mediation can have strong impact on our health, but I am often turned off by whats out there for people to use. I like this series because the imagery is not too directive (for example, she dosen't direct the listener towards specific tasks like trying to smell the ocean or laying on a cloud etc.). The pregnancy imagery is so nice, and really helpful when youre feeling tired, stressed, and uncomfortable, which is a lot of the time when youre pregnant. I think this series is great for professional mental health therapists and would make a nice gift for preganant moms and partners.

Not just receipes - a real "how-to" guide........2007-02-25

I've owned this book for years. The receipes and particularly the descriptions of cooking techniques have proven invaluable. I consider myself a reasonably accomplished home cook but, until purchasing this wonderful resource I never quite "got it" as far putting really good Chinese cooking on the table. Helen explains both the how and the why allowing one to re-create the tastes, aromas and textures of Chinese home cooking. The format of the book is clear and easy to follow. The heavy emphasis on FRESH produce is wonderful. Most receipes are easily adapted to those that wish to reduce or even eliminate meat in the diet. I enjoyed the stories from her youth in her mother's kitchen, in the family restaurant, shopping in Chinatown. I love chicken and highly recommend the delicious and incredibly simple "Chinese White Chicken" (if you can boil water, you can make this great dish). Helen includes many easy and tasty dipping sauces that enhance almost any meal, yum!!!!

I've used this cookbook for years; I have soy sauce stains on a number of its pages! Ms. Chen takes the mystery out of preparing wonderful Chinese food. I have not tried a recipe that we did not like. Try it, you'll like it!

As an always - on - move graduate student raised in an Italian - American family, I must confess that I was always a bit mystified by the the techniques used in the Chinese food I loved so much, but was always unable to achieve in the kitchen. Since I don't have a lot of time at this point in my life because of my studies, Helen Chen's book gives me simple to perform instructions for her quick and absoluetly delicious and nutritious recipes. Thank you Ms. Chen! I highly recommend this book. It is wonderful.

Her straight forward instructions are easy to follow. Most ingredients are easily attainable. I am able to get dinner on the table in about 30-40 minutes. My husband says her dishes reminds him of his mother's home cooking. I think that speaks for itself.

More and more consumers are ready to acknowledge that medical science may not have the last word on treating common illnesses that range from asthma to allergies. Part of the problem in an explosion of ill health in a country that prides itself on having the best health care in the world is that far too many Americans consistently make poor choices in diet, food supplements, and health care. In THE SUPPLEMENT SHOPPER Gregory and Maile Pouls admit that the fault lies far more with the Medical Powers That Be than with the laziness or short-sightedness of those who suffer from commonplace illnesses.

In order to overcome this tendency toward poor health in a land where poor health is eminently preventable, the Pouls suggest initially that nearly everyone can take control of his or her own health. To rely only on the advice of medical doctors is, in their opinion, simply insufficient to optimize health. The first step, they see, is that a potential patient should see medical doctors as a starting point, rather than a finishing point, for competent health care. Alternate health texts, like the Pouls', are then viewed as complements or supplements, rather than as substitutes, for that care.

The Pouls write in a prose style that is midway between the technical medical jargonese that one finds in standard medical texts and what one finds in Reader's Digest type condensations, thereby ensuring a maximum of reader comprehension. The overall focus of this text is on finding the proper nutritional supplement for a clearly identified disease. In fact, nearly the entire book is divided into an alphabetical listing of common ailments, their symptoms, treatments, and recommended supplements. The Pouls do not attempt, as does Kevin Trudeau in his NATURAL CURES, to cover the entire spectrum of alternate health care, nor do they see, as does Trudeau, the overriding importance of considering initially colonic and kidney cleanses as the first order of business. Their focus is to make sure that you have correctly identified your medical problem through a qualified health care practitioner. Once having done so, then you can use this text as a starting point to choose from a wide range of commonly available and natural health supplements. For example, if your doctor has diagnosed you with hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), then you might wish to complement the prescription hormone pills that your doctor will surely prescribe with kelp, lipoic acids, and a variety of substances which can be used to detoxify the body. The Pouls also list where you might buy such products.

THE SUPPLEMENT SHOPPER is a welcome introduction to a vast field of alternate health approaches to common diseases. It is well-written, up-to-date, comprehensive, and commonsensical. Recommended.

Nutritionists Gregory Pouls, D.C. and Maile Pouls, Ph.D. point out that "in America, we have an overabundance of food but an underabundance of nutrition." They wrote The Supplement Shopper to assist those individuals who may need supplements in making good choices. Drs. Pouls emphasize that "there is no magic bullet or 'super' nutrient that works the same for everyone all the time." Supplements include vitamins, minerals, herbs, amino acids, and other nutrients. They are not drugs and are not presently regulated, other than the restrictions against manufacturers' claims for treating specific diseases. Individuals are often left wondering whether they need a particular supplement, and if so, how much to take. They also need information about other substances included in the supplement, such as artificial coloring or flavoring. Drs. Pouls start with "An A-Z Nutrient Guide," in which they describe the nutrients, how and when they should be taken, and what they do in the body. Part Two is "An A-Z of Health Conditions: Nutrients and Herbal Remedies." More than 80 major diseases and ailments, including allergies, diabetes, fatigue, heart disease, and thyroid conditions, are listed. Each includes a full description of the causes, symptoms, and recommendations for appropriate nutritional treatment. That's followed by an alphabetical listing by brand name of products that contain the recommended supplementation. Contact information, including phone numbers, is provided for each supplement manufacturer. The final section of the book provides information on using supplementation as preventative medicine. Topics include: brain power, longevity, detoxification, and immune support. In his introduction, Burton Goldberg urges readers to "take control of your own health. The tools are simple: eat right, use nutritional supplements wisely, don't use prescription drugs (except when absolutely necessary), detoxify, and exercise." The Supplement Shopper provides readers with all the information they need for using nutritional supplementation, including brand names of the products that will best meet their individual needs.
