Marion Yorck von Wartenburg was involved in the Nazi resistance group known as the Kreisau Circle, whose cofounder was her husband, Peter. The Kreisau Circle participated in the assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944. Peter’s cousin Claus Stauffen-berg and other members of the military resistance carried out the attempt. When they failed, hundreds of people were arrested, tried, and executed, including Peter. Marion and other members of the conspirators’ families were also arrested and spent months jailed under miserable conditions. In this memoir Marion recreates the terrifying reality of her life as the wife of a resistance fighter and at the same time conveys the depth of the bond that existed between her and her husband.

I love, love, love this book! I am only half way through, and all of my questions have already been answered. The rest of the information is just an added bonus to questions that I didn't even know I had yet. I always share my new learnings, and it has helped one of my co-workers to offer her friend advice, who has a newly diagnosed, Type 1 diabetic, son. To be educated on the topic leaves both the diabetic and their support system feeling uplifted.

As an experienced gardener, I was not looking for a how-to book. This is one of my favorite books however, for reading in those last days of winter when the urge to garden grows with each lengthening day. The pictures are luminous and inspiring. I read it every year.

I enjoyed Mr. Bailey's conversational style. The book is really a journal of his garden. It is not a reference book but it has some very useful tips hidden within. The pictures are marvelous! Mr. Bailey has arranged and photographed his flowers in some unusual ways that are quite appealing. I got this book at the library but I must have a copy for myself.

This book has some pretty pictures in it and some good information but it is based on a given week in a year of the growing season.
I was looking for a garden planning design book but this book is more of a documentary of how the authors flowers bloomed and what he did during the season. It gives recommendations on what to do during the growing season based on the week. It also give instructions on "Potpourri" or "How to make a meadow garden". But these sections are only a page long without any pictures.
If you want a book you read through slowly to enjoy another gardeners view then this is the book for you. If you are like me and looking for a reference book, skip this one.

I am really happy with this book. We homeschool and this has been a great resource. My children really enjoy the information and it is presented in an interesting way. I love this book! I have my degree in Elementary Education and spent 3 years teaching - 2 of those in Kindergarten. I have seen how many times even the best intentions do not allow the time for covering EVERYTHING you would love to expose the children with when they are in your classroom.
When my own child started Kindergarten "What Your Kindergartner Need to Know" was recommended to me by a friend. I would spend the nights reading to her out of this book. It was a great chance for me to introduce concepts to her that she either had a basic knowledge or no knowledge. She looked forward to our evening readings together and learned a great deal from this book. We used it solely as a "night read" and did not do the experiments it showed. However, we would look at the experiments and talk about them. They looked very age appropriate and fun.
We have just begun "What Your First Grader Needs to Know" and all 3 of my children love it (ages 6, 4, and 3). This is an excellent way to add onto any child's education!

I found this book to be a wonderfully written and fascinating collection of short stories about the author's encounter with people that he met whilst he was living in Japan.
His stories have been written in a "matter of fact" way - and at first they seem impersonal but as you read further into the stories they become very personal and you get drawn into the lives of these people.
I came away from reading this book feeling as though I had a more personal and in-depth glance into the lives and minds of the Japanese more so than what any other book has given me.
