    "Surely Your Joking, Mr. Feynman!" is based on these tape recordings. Given his particular style of giving out ideas, it is always a better idea to listen to him 'in action' than just to read books. Included in a ``secret track'' is his unique experience with carbon tet. This story has never been published before.

    Though Feynman died a pretty long time ago, an interesting phenomena, may be unique to him, is that he is constantly writing and publishing new books! That's because Feynman's bestsellers--the set of lectures given at Caltech, "Surely you're Joking", "What do you care?", "QED", and some others--were not written by him, though he is recognised being the author by everybody, including himself for those books published before he died. Actually as you certainly know, these books were edited by other peoples from audio tapes, which tapes were recorded for such or such occasion, lectures, TV, or for private use. That means Feynman told something that has been recorded, and somebody else rearranged it, added, cut, modified the grammar and the speech, moved the text around, to make a book out of it.

    For that matter, no one feels peculiarly wrong when editing books signed Richard P. Feynman, books he never knew he had written. It may seems fair as long as the editor stays close enough to Feynman's ideas, and most often it's okay in this regard... but some will always feel uneasy with somehow translated text.

    Feynman encouraged it when he was alive, and as an author of much success, they're keeping up the good work, till exhaustion of lost lectures it seems. Whether one feels this is morally good or wrong, there remains these original unarguable sources of this sounding fake literature. It happens you can get some of theses tapes! For those who have enjoyed the books, for you all, this is incredibly enough _better_ stuff.

    This one record, Feynman Volume 1, has been home recorded by Ralph Leighton after sessions of drumming with Feynman, pieces of which are incidentally included. In this first volume, we hear Feynman telling theses four stories that are entitled in "Surely You're Joking Mr Feynman" as "The Chief Research Chemist of the Metaplast Corporation", "I Want My Dollar!", "Thirteen Times" and "Judging Books by Their Covers". Stories as they're told sometime differ radically from stories as they're written. Those episodes that are hundred of pages separated in the book are actually recounted in an uninterrupted one hour and a minute delightful story, of a true Feynman _unedited_.

    Praise that audio sources from Feynman will keep on being released. If peoples feel the need for a book coming with them, they're welcome (and most often when it's technical, yes, it's necessary). But books without their actual source, and even though it's the way Feynman was "writing". should be disregarded.

    This book is full of practical and useful information. It is obvious that McAvoy has a lot of valuable experience. However, his style of writing injected a lot of his own personality into the work, which I found to be distracting. I got tired of hearing about Izavbell, and her name so unusual as to detract from what McAvoy is trying to convey. And I was a bit taken aback when McAvoy advises the reader already in chapter 1 that he or she should 'try to hit someone in the face unexpectedly with your fist' to prove a point about instincts. I hope no one actually tries this! But if you are looking for a decent book about soccer and not a great work of literature, this one is for you. McAvoy shares a lot of great drills and games to keep any team occupied for a full season!

    I have no sports background but have been coaching U8 soccer for several seasons. I moved up to U9 boys and have been looking for a book to explain more about the fundamentals of soccer and provide drills to teach them. This book emphasizes teaching soccer fundamentals including the push pass, instep kick, moves, and tactics. It also gives you drills that emphasize each skill in gradual progression. In 2 practices, my guys could do a decent instep kick!

    Regardless of whether you know the game, if you want to learn more about how to teach the game, this is the book for you. I grew up playing, but starting coaching was a struggle to get the kids to understand -- until I bought this book 2 years ago. I still recommend it, and I still use it. This shows you what skills to start with and how to progress as the kids catch on. With the philosophies and games in this book you can keep the attention of your team for many many practices.

    Nelson McAvoy is a former rocket scientist who coaches youth soccer. He has thought and learned a lot about HOW kids learn to play soccer, and in this book he tells you about it clearly, entertainingly, and compellingly.

    I don't have his experience in coaching kids in the 9-11 year-old range, but I still found the book invaluable, because now I know what I can and can't expect to accomplish with younger kids. I also understand how important it is to be a teacher, and how it can hurt the kids' development if you just "let them play" without introducing the right skills when they are ready to acquire them. Any coach who reads this book and doesn't become that kind of teacher for kids in that critical 9-11 year age group must not have been paying attention!

    This one is a keeper.

    Nelson McAvoy briefly coached my sister, and was one of the best even back in the '70s. Every word in this book resonates with the experiences of what works and what doesn't. You'll learn just how much learning to mix in with the right amount of fun, and the book is chock full of drills that will train the players to act like a soccer player without thinking about it. I just know when I get out there on the field armed with this book that the kids are going to enjoy it enough to sign up next year, and are going to learn the game without realizing it because they're having a blast.

          I'm a literary agent and we represent a smallish group of food writers (among them the Moosewood Restaurant and James Peterson) and I am - - as you may imagine- - - an enthusiastic cook. I always have a few favorite recipes from each book we represent, but I even have amazed myself at how many recipes I've used - - successfully, happily - - - from this new book by Rosa Ross.

          I have done practically all the ones in the chapter on steaming, because they are easy to do and and so healthy and delicious.

          Crisp Broccoli Steamed with Oyster Sauce sounds simple and straightforward and it is, but what's surprising is how delicious it is.

          Steamed Fish Steaks calls for a few more unusual ingredients. But it was so marvelous I made it twice, both times with Chilean sea bass. (I feel a bit guilty about that because I now notice that Chilean sea bass is being over-fished. Next time I'll try it with cod or salmon.)

          Steamed Flower Shrimp is also wonderful - - and beautiful.

          Many of these recipes were developed by Rosa (who is originally from Macau and so is Portuguese - Chinese) over a summer when she was trying to lose a few pounds, so they are, for the most part, marvelously low in fat and calories.

          A wonderful, inventive, easy, healthy collection of recipes!

              This book is very helpful to a beginner in the mosaic arts because it goes over the tools and materials needed to create almost any mosaic. There are many projects included in this book with step by step instructions, supply lists, and photos to demonstrate the process. If you would like to get involved with mosaic art but don't know where to start this book will help you gather supplies and give you enough ideas and technical knowledge to begin your first mosaic project. The only thing this book lacks is more explaination on the correct kinds of grouts and sealents to use.

              I'm just a beginner and have already picked up a few books, but by far this is the easiest to understand, I like how the book is laid out, the projects are wonderful, and after reading it from cover to cover I have a much better understanding of the art of mosaic tiling.

              I met Doreen today and without knowing she wrote a book to inspire those interested in mosaics, we got to talking about what she and I both do. It turns out, we both do mosaics. She is unbelievably talented and motivated me to get out there and do so much more. She is involved in a very large scale mosaic comission at the moment and I can understand why someone would hire her to do this. She happened to have a copy of her book in her car and I bought one on the spot, without looking at it, and I am so happy I did. (I think I own all the other mosaic books on the market today). This book is concise, colorful, inspirational, full of ideas for the beginner student as well as the advanced. Those who think they know what they are doing already will find much to get them headed in a more advanced but totally reachable direction. I do highly recommend this book for those looking for their first mosaic instuctional book or one to add to their collection as I have. Enjoy, you will not be disappointed and happy mosaicing!

                                    Song in an Age of Discord is a companion volume to the author’s translation of The Journal of Socho, the travel diary and poetic memoir of Saiokuken Socho (1448-1532), the preeminent linked-verse (renga) poet of his generation. The Journal—which records several journeys that Socho made between Kyoto and Suruga Province during the tumultuous Age of the Country at War—is unparalleled in the literature of the period for its range of commentary and freshness of detail, and for its impressive array of literary genres, including more than 600 poems.

                                    The present volume opens with an overview of the author’s life and times, and explores the relationships between politics, patronage, and the creative process in late medieval Japan. Raised in the service of a feudal lord in Suruga Province, Socho subsequently became the devoted student of the renga master Sogi and the iconoclastic Zen monk Ikkyu, a variety of influences clearly visible in his journal. Socho lived in an era in which established values and hierarchies were being questioned, and his journal reflects his own testing of traditional literary boundaries.

                                    Subsequent chapters read the journal in terms of the standard norms of genres that Socho appropriated and reinterpreted in fashioning his own literary persona. The norms of medieval eremitic literature are presented via works by two other noted linked-verse poets, Shinkei and Shohaku, and those of travel literature are set forth in travel diaries by Socho’s teacher Sogi, who also supplied the template for Socho’s orthodox (ushin) poetry.

                                    The comic and unorthodox haikai verse of Yamazaki Sokan serves as a point of comparison for Socho’s frequent excursions into that genre. Unlike other orthodox renga masters, Socho maintained parallel interests in composing and preserving haikai poetry, and he contributed much to that evolving art form. Throughout, Song in an Age of Discord illustrates the dialogue Socho pursued with his literary and cultural heritage.
