Really truly helpful!.......2007-01-14

I suffered for 8 months with inflammatory arthritis in my knees. I saw doctor after doctor, had test after test. The only solution was Celebrex which gave me chest pain. I got this book at our library out of desperation; I felt too young to lose my mobility. I'm thrilled to say these exercises were outstanding and really DO help.
Best of all, the are at least half a dozen helpful exercises for every joint area in the body starting at the top and going down - even the jaw is covered.
My husband started the exercises for back & jaw (he's got TMJ) and they helped him as well.
I can't thank the authors enough for compiling such an honestly helpful book. How refreshing to actually find something that does what it says it does. THANK YOU. I have some relief in life finally.

I suffer with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis in my entire body! With inflammation in my entire body, mobility is very very limited! I tried these exercise every morning for a week. I couldn't believe how much my mobility had improved in that week. Now I do the exercises everyday at least twice a day. This book is definetly worth buying.

This Book Does Work.......2000-12-11

After checking ARTHRITIS: WHAT EXERCISES WORK out of the library for the third time in a year, I broke down and bought it. It's terrific. The exercises are tied to specific joints, ranging from the small, fingers and toes, on to shoulders, hips, knees, etc. Some you can even do in bed, but many are much more challenging--there is a range. Doing these for just a couple of weeks increased my flexibility tremendously--washing my back, tieing my shoes, and so forth much easier. And I'm a 53 year old professional female who is in "good shape" with aerobics and strength training--but the targeted flexibility/joint exercises here were new to me. I highly, highly recommend.

One of the Best Veggie Cook Books.......2000-01-28

Being a vegetarian for over ten years I have many cookbooks on the subject and this is definately one of the best. What a wonderfully well written book, easy to follow and every one of the dishes I have tried have been delicious. This is not only great for veggies but also make wonderful meals for those carnivores in the family. Some of the recipes take a little time to prepare, but the end results absolutely make the effort worthwhile.

Using these cookbooks, I have learned how to eat incredibly healthy while serving really tasty meals! The Eggplant Parmesan recipe is now a requirement for potlucks I attend. I love it because it is so easy to make. The cookbooks make great gifts too, I bought 10 as gifts for family members. Although I own many cookbooks, I do the majority of my cooking from the High Fit - Low Fat recipes.

The spiral binding on this book is it's only positive.

I haven't found a single thing in this book I would like to stitch. The graphs are done with colored Xs which make it difficult to distinguish between similar colors, and to imagine what the finished product will look like. The colors are not given in Anchor or DMC format, but in other numbers that you then have to look up the DMC or Anchor numbers in the back. Finally there are very few designs for each category. For example, there are only about four or five small pages of Christmas designs. Christmas is a very large subject to design from. Did they run out of ideas? Rather than this book, buy the Better Homes and Gardens 2000 Cross Stitch Designs. There are so many more designs for many more topics, and stitched pictures are given so you know what you'll be working on.

Motifs for stitchers.......2007-06-08

This is a wonderful book: the spiral bound format makes it perfect to work from. The motifs themselves are clearly presented and lend themselves to stitching on all manner of items.

From bookmarks to babywear, from towels to tableclothes: there is something here for every stitcher!

Wow - great cross stitch book!.......2006-04-01

I highly recommend this book to anyone who cross stitches. I got it from the library and loved it so much that I purchased it. It has pages and pages of really cute patterns. This would be a perfect book for someone who designs their own samplers or for someone who enjoys stitching smaller designs, even on bookmarks.

You need to get past the Seven Step business.......2007-08-07

I am buying this book after picking it up at the library. I try very hard to read parenting books, but usually have a lot of trouble. In general, they use too many easy examples and offer techniques that may or may not apply to my situation. They leave a sense that I need to take on a project of doing things exactly their way to be successful.

This book takes a different approach. It emphasizes the behaviors and attitudes one exhibits when one is expressing love to another person, which of course is what we all MEAN to be doing with our children. Just having that adjustment in perspective has really helped me think before I speak to my children, and has changed the tone of our home. For me, that is more important than a specific technique; I want our home to be a more loving, supportive environment.

That said, the author works really hard to smash what she's saying into a Seven Powers framework that doesn't work. I think the Seven Ideas are probably good, but they are so awkwardly smashed into a list of seven with catchy neumonic devices that it becomes a handicap. Every time she mentions the Power of Perception, or one of the others, I shudder. The neumonic names don't describe the idea she's trying to have you remember, and the "Seven Powers" thing is just cheesy. Unfortunately, the ineffectiveness of this device might make the book just too annoying to read. Underneith it, though, are a lot of good ideas worth suffering through Cheesy Self Help Speaker language to absorb.

I found the negative reviews surprising, because I have found this to be the most practical positive parenting book that I have read, particularly the tips on coping with sibling conflict. Moreover, I think she herself in supportive of parenting, and is very open with her own self-discipline struggles.

I would skip this one if I were you........2007-05-13

I have been struggling to get into this book for weeks now. Granted, I keep getting interrupted by my own parenting challenge, but most books I read don't take NEARLY this long to figure out. I borrowed it from the library, and I just don't "get" it. It seems as though the author is repeating herself endlessly, without really giving any advice I can use. Like a previous reviewer said, it seems very philosophical without any real strategies to put in place. I may keep trying to finish it but I honestly doubt it. I have so many other highly-recommended books to read...this one just is very uninspiring.

This books helps out so much. It teaches parents self control with your children. The only thing it is lacking is a consequence for misbehavior. Yes, talking through things has helped out a lot but sometimes I need something more.

I have been teaching Parenting classes for the past 20 plus years. Ever since I was introduced to Becky Bailey's Conscious Discipline I have used Easy to Love as my main source. It is the absolute best philosophy for parenting, teaching and living- combining all of the best practices with brain research. EXCELLENT!

A Writer's Life.......2001-11-18

Lemady is subtitled Episodes of a Writer's Life and is a rambling, idiosyncratic stream of consciousness discourse which is probably the closest Keith Roberts ever came to writing an autobiography. Roberts is famous as the author of Pavane, an alternate history novel that brought him fame (though little fortune). Many of his other novels are worthy though they are very hard to find having been published mainly by very small presses with very limited print runs (though Wildside Press has brought several of the rarer novels back into print and they are now easily obtainable through Amazon.Com). One reason for this was Robert's rather irascible character - he had a positive genius for alienating his colleagues and sometimes he seemed to go out of his way to be difficult. Lemady contains its moments of bitchiness (he is quite scathing about Kerosina, a small press which almost single handedly kept many of his books in print in the 1970s) - but despite this a certain grace shines through. Nobody who could write such beautiful novels can be entirely devoid of soul and insight. Many of the obituaries published on his death concentrated on the negative aspects of his character - it seemed that even after he was dead, Roberts kept the enemies that he made in life, and those enemies proved to be very unforgiving. Well; distance lends enchantment. I never met Roberts, but I admired his books hugely and Lemady adds an extra dimension that I for one am very pleased to have discovered.

Fact or fantasy - you decide!.......2000-06-04

Subtitled "Episodes of a Writer's Life", Lemady is a fascinating and idiosyncratic fusion of fact and fantasy that records some key events and encounters in Roberts' life. Although, from one perspective, the narrative can be perceived as a personal record, it also features a fictional character, the Lemady of the title, who interacts with Roberts as he remembers. Truth and fantasy are therefore never what they seem; one becomes the other and the reader must decide where real life finishes and fiction begins. Not a major Roberts work, but essential for anyone interested in what makes the author tick.
