eye opener.......2007-06-08

I wish that I had read this book long ago. Persons with personality disorders can cause serious damage in the lives of those around them, yet most persons know far too little about these disorders. What I found most useful were the first three chapters, wherein Dr. Yudofsky offers valuable tools to discern whether others may have personality disorders and also nine helpful guiding principles. But the other chapters give the reader an overview of what each of the disorders may look like. Great intro to the topic.

FATAL FLAWS.......2006-07-23

I read and re-read this book marking each page of those in my family and others in my life who clearly exhibited many of the
symptoms and disorders so clearly explained with case studies and symptomatic charts..Dr. Yudofsky's ability to pinpoint whether these FLAWS and FATAL FLAWS can be treated was excellant...
I highly recommend this book to the lay person or professional in need of THEIR OWN role clarification with FATALLY FLAWED people in their lives.

Ineffectual Insight.......2006-05-27

This book is the work of a medical bureaucrat struggling to claim a legacy of insight. In short, a failure in motive as well as design and execution.

An essential book to understand personality disorders.......2005-07-16

Stuart Yudofsky has done it again. He has written a book which not only has extensive clinical descriptions of the different personality disorders,he deals with the treatments which are standard,acceptable and evidence based. The language of the book is eloquent and easy to read -- readers do not stumble on the psychiatric jargons. I think APA and Stuart yudofsky has done a great service to the general public through publishing such a book. This book will also be extremely helpful for the psychiatric trainees because the case studies reflect the extensive knowledge and empathy of an astute and expert clinician.

I have a few criticisms -- Dr Yudofsky has not covered a few clinically important PDs like passive agressive or depressive personalities-- i am not exactly sure why that is the case. besides schema therapy and DBT seems to be underrepresented, but these therapies have a minor but significant and growing evidence base.

I wholeheartedly wish wide publication of this piece of work.

EVERYONE MUST OWN THIS BOOK!!!.......2005-04-06

This book is outstanding and has helped me and my friends tremendously. Anyone who is in a relationship or who has ever experienced relationship trouble should own this book. There should be a copy in every household!

If you need to regularly cook for a camp, church gathering or a shelter this is the book. But for a small family that wants to save time and still eat interesting and healthy food this is not the book. I was very disappointed.

If you liked Dinner's in the Freezer, get this, too........2001-02-15

While the book covers much of the same material as Dinner, it's updated and expanded to include breakfast and lunch. It's definitely a different book. There's more information about regional produce markets, and a recipe index. I'm disappointed that there aren't forms to photocopy like there are in "Dinner."

If you've never cooked in quantity, this book will take you by the hand and make it easy.

Now, to be picky, the math in the benefits section leaves much to be desired (waaay overstating the value of buying in bulk), and an appendix that was promised in the bulk buying section wasn't included. Both of those bugged me, but it's worth the effort to go beyond these and other editing errors to get to the information.

Jill Bond does an extraordinary job in this book of explaining exactly how to Mega-Cook. I have read many books on this subject and this book by far puts me at ease with this somewhat intimidating process. I'm thankful for the tips she gives on page 103 about making up multiple batches. She gives an example of this method so those of us who need to "see" things can grasp the idea. This is a wonderful way to get started by understanding the whole process of this type of cooking and food preservation. The tips she sprinkles throughout as well as the test family responses gives everyone a great variety of recipes and ideas to choose from. Jill makes me feel that I know her family with the personal touches she puts in the pages. I waited quite a while for this book to be released and it has not disappointed me. I have tried some of the recipes and my family has enjoyed each one. I am looking forward to this method becoming a very welcomed way of life for me and my family.

IF YOU CAN FIND A COPY - GRAB IT!.......2006-02-18

Years ago someone left the copy I own on the back of the airline seat I was flying on. This was the early 70s. This book alone was worth the price of the airline ticket at the time. I have probably read this thing a dozen or more time since. The book, dealing with fishing and fishermen is absolutely hilarious. The many illustrations and illustration captions are some of the best work I have seen. If you are into fishing I absolutely promise you, you will love it. If you are not into fishing, I promise the same. The author's twisted humor is quite insightful. Recommend this one highly. If you should happen to be the person who left the book, many thanks to you and your forgetfulness. I owe you one.

good pictures and ideas.......2006-04-05

This book is fine for beginner/mid level painter that is looking for some information and lots of color pictures. It covers the clasic faux finishes (wood, marble, netal, trompe l'oeil but on a very basic level. It does not contain much information on the funky painted furniture that is so popular today. The photos of projects and the rendered techniques are excellent. The author is clearly a talented painter. But if you want detailed information on how to create these finishes I would highly recommend The Art of Painted Finish by Isabel O'Neil. Her book covers the techniques, paints, glazes, and supplies in detail.

This is a stirring collection of diaries written by young people, ages 12 to 22, during the Holocaust. Some of the writers were refugees, others were hiding or passing as non-Jews, some were imprisoned in ghettos, and nearly all perished before liberation.

Intense collection.......2005-07-24

This collection provides 14 generous excerpts from journals of young people during the Shoah; the earliest diaries are from adolescents who got out before or just as things were getting bad, but as we go further on, the diaries get more intense in scope, moving from adolescents who weren't quite sure what was to come, to people who had some inkling but weren't quite sure the rumors were true, to finally young people in ghettos, young people who therefore knew how bad things were, although they didn't yet know what their final grisly fate was to be. Before each excerpt we also get a generous introduction to the author, his or her surroundings, what generally happened to the Jews of that particular city or town, and the diarist's final fate. Some of these young people survived, others perished, and still others' fates are unknown, though they are presumed to have perished. There's also an appendix detailing a number of other young diarists from the Shoah, some information on them, their fates, whether the diary is in a private collection, a museum, if it's been translated into English, or was published for the general public whatever language it's in. A lot of these young diarists were very literate and intelligent astute young people; it's incredibly sad how some of them died so young and therefore didn't get a chance to possibly become great writers. My only small complaint is that Poland is a little overrepresented; while it's true that at least half of the murdered came from Poland and that Poland was the nation that lost the greatest percentage of its prewar Jewish population by far, it would have been nice to have some variety in the locations, like maybe include more diaries from Germany, France, and Belgium, or ones from Holland, Hungary, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, and Greece, for example.

Great to see this collection of works.......2005-05-25

Even after countless movies and documentaries, nothing has personally ever made me direct as much attention to the tragedy of the holocaust than these young writers' words written in ghettos and in hiding places. Their optimism is heartbreaking when you learn of their fates, you see their struggles with hunger, fear of an uncertain future, their grief over losing loved ones and identity. But you also recognize their strength in troubled times and end up appreciating their courage to write, because you know it is essential that they should be known.

moving, memorable, educational............2002-08-13

i highly recommend this book. it is not only for those with historical interests. the diaries are so moving that this book will appeal to all. the writing is very vivid and the diarist's voice will stay with you for some time. zapruder has done an impecable job of introducing each entry. she sets the scene with such biographical and cultural detail that you feel at one with diarist before delving in. i was really moved by this book and encourage all to read it.
