The authors of this poorly written biography may have met the man in his twilight years and obviously garnered their information from very limited resources. Therfore only a mere part of the real story has been told and indeed a biased one at that. P. Wilbur, as his closest associates knew him, was robbed of his legacy by a bunch of wannabes and they told their side of the story which is now in print for their own benefit. I gave it one star for the fact that it does document some of his achievements.

This is not a biography of Paul Klipsch.......2004-05-24

This is one of the worst biographies I have ever read. In fact is it not a biography of Paul Klipsch at all. It is a tribute to him by his second wife, ghost written by the authors. Paul's life before his second wife hardly exists. We learn almost nothing of his life with his first wife. Worse, the technical aspects of Paul's life are almost ignored. Paul W. Klipsch was a great engineer, an entrepreneur, and a great man for what he did with his money (an Engineering school is named after him for his extensive support). But what made all this possible were the technical innovations which he brought to the audio industry, and these nontechnical authors don't have a clue what that is all about. So this is not a biography of Paul W. Klipsch. A better title would be "My Life with Paul W. Klipsch" by his Second Wife.

This is the clumsiest, most poorly written hardcover I have ever read. The last chapter, amazingly worst than the others, is totally incoherent. I have no idea how this could have gotten published. From what I know of Paul Klipsch and his personality, having only spent one evening with him, I believe he would find this book an utter embarrassment,

That said, if you're interested in some tidbits about the life of Paul Klipsch there are a lot of them here. But be forewarned, it reads exactly like sorting through a shoebox full of miscellaneous notes and scraps of paper.

best biography ever written.......2003-03-14

If you want to read a biography about a great american hero and visionary this is it. Complete with his patents, original letters and humor. I never new the total story about this wonderful man but I do now. Does not bog down with alot of nothing information but rather keeps a good pace and has so much information in these 200 plus pages you have to read it like I have, 3 times already!!! I keep picking up new things all of the time. I especially liked the old vintage Klipsch ads which were so much a look-see into Paul's personality. A must read for anyone not just audiophiles.

Disappointing.......2003-02-14

I bought this book intending to dislpay it near my vintage stereo system that features a pair of Klipsch La Scala speakers. That will not be happening. This book is amateurishly written and poorly edited. Stories are told and then repeated again at length only pages later. The authors set up each chapter by describing some virtuous attribute of this man they so obviously adore and then proceed to describe someone quite the opposite (for example, they report that the "extremely open minded" Mr. Klipsch impulsively ripped the radio out of his car to avoid listening to music that was not to his tastes). Remove the "filler" - pages of patent specifications, pictures, lists of awards - and there remains precious little content, far less than one would expect in summarizing the life of such a legendary personality.

Good book, nicely balanced.. by a physician and intellectual...........2007-05-26

Larry Dossey has thought deeply about the mind/body relationship, nature of consciousness and the power of prayer. In this book, he highlights evidence for the power of prayer, but in general he backs up his assertions with facts appropriate to the area of inquiry. On the other hand, he is also open to other ways of validating truth claims than the scientific method. For example, it would be difficult to study love or consciousness using a microscope, but I don't think many people would argue that these things exist.

In general, I like all of Larry Dossey's stuff and this is one of his very popular books. It's a relatively short read and not a bad place to start. I also think his books on hearing are very encouraging, enthusiastic and written in the spirit of a true healer. His presence in medicine as a physician is a blessing. I hope many more books will come from his pen, here are a few more you may want to try:

The Power of Faith! .......2006-11-01

Most of us have always felt that there must be some power behind our prayers for the sick and the ill - now in Dossey's wonderful little book you can affirm that belief. This is a great book to gift someone whio is experiencing health issues or whose loved ones are.

I personally believe in the power of prayers and have written about the healings that have come to me in my life over the many decades. In my book "A Spiritual Warrior's Journey" I have several chapters devoted to that power. It is real! Yet, it is an energy that for some that remains untapped and unused.

This book is a great red but a much better result would be to put his inspirational advice into practice. Thank God for his book! it will heal bodies and save souls!

An Inspirational Book on the Power of Prayer.......2005-06-06

I, like many people, started praying when I was old enough to talk. I vividly remember my favorite Aunt teaching me the "now I lay me down to sleep" prayer when I was about 3 or 4 - and I said this prayer every night before bed until I was old enough to come up with my own.

Although I prayed every night, I never really thought about whether or not my prayers would be answered - I guess I just assumed they would be. That was until I became an adult, and began to realize that some were not being answered at all. Of course, I realized afterwords that the "unanswered prayer" is sometimes a blessing in and of itself!

This book helps explain why some prayers are answered and others are not, and shows through scientific evidence that there is in fact power in prayer. This is an amazing breakthrough, as we are now facing a time when prayer is being banned in all of our schools - and yet it's being shown that prayer can be an amazingly wonderful & powerful force.

This book also raises some of the issues that may await our physicians now that it has been shown that prayer can in fact help to heal the sick. Will there be malpractice law suites if a dr. chooses not to pray for his/her patients? Will people who don't want to be prayed for sue their doctors who have prayed for their health? These are quite scarey questions!

Also, what about the people who choose prayer INSTEAD of western medicine? Are they really making the right choice? According to Dr. Dossey, the best route to take when faced with medical crises is to use all that is available to us - western medicine, alternative medicine, AND prayer - no one of these is mutually exclusive.

The most important finding though, in my opinion, is that prayer has been found to be equally effective regardless of one's religious beliefs. Although this finding has upset fundamentalists, I think it's a step in the direction of tolerance towards those who espouse beliefs that are different than our own. In this respect, as well as other's, this book has the potential to "change the world"...

I would recommend this book to everyone in the health profession, those suffering ill health, and anyone who is just plain interested in the power of prayer. The scientific evidence is out, and it appears that prayer has an amazing power - why not utilize this power to help yourself and your fellow man?

I Love This Book! Part of a Good Foundation.......2004-11-29

This is a book that should be on every healer's shelf. There is constantly new information now on this subject, and I was greatly moved with Dr. Snow's new book The Power of Divine: A Healer's Guide and the new information there, but that is to be expected as we move forward in our awareness between the power of prayer and how spirituality affects our bodies, both emotionally and physically. Mankind is taking great, wonderful strides forward right now, and not a moment too soon! Read this book and start a collection that leads you to insight and wisdom.

pray for optimal health.......1999-08-23

Dr. Larry Dossey is perhaps the worlds leading authority on prayer and health. Gateway to India.......2007-08-10

I must admit to a bias in this review - I am a student of Julie Sahni, and when she encouraged me to obtain this out-of print masterpiece when I already had her other books, I decided I must have it. I am glad I did. It is exquisite, both as a Pan-India cookbook and work of art. That it is part of Williams-Sonoma Savoring Series only adds to its beauty and utility - a cookbook by a master of her art and culture published by people who love and appreciate fine food, and want to spread their love for this great cuisine. It is such a wonderful book that I found a second copy as well, for I am sure I will dog ear many pages and spatter them with turmeric before I am through. The recipes are exquisite, the photographs are stunning, and if you are fond of Indian cooking, do whatever you have to do to get your hands on this gem, for you will soon realize that Julie has taught you how to think like a native Indian throughout all the home kitchens of India with this magnificent work of art and instruction.

What a disappointment.......2007-04-18

I was expecting some really good recipes in here after having cooked from Savoring Mexico, America and Tuscany....but what a disappointment. The recipes in here are not at all familiar...and I am a person who lived in India for 21 years(yes, I'm Indian too). The picture of jalebi in the book is laughable...no way does jalebi look like that. They didn't have recipes for the popular sweets like gulab jamuns or rasgullas in it at all...I was really disappointed. I'm glad I didn't buy the book and instead checked it out at my library first(where, by the way, I had to wait for a very loooong time to procure a copy....I thought the wait would be worth it....too bad it wasn't)

The best Indian cookbook ever!!!(seriously).......2005-03-26

I must say, if you are looking for an Indian cookbook, this is the one. It's got photographs of every recipe,and about the best recipes I've ever seen in a cookbook. (believe me, I've searched long and hard for a good Indian cookbook)There are recipes that I've eaten before(I'm 1/2 Indian)that are generally not found in cookbooks. There are special dishes, everyday (by Indians) dishes. Very authentic recipes. Very nice recipes. The desserts are great. Have you ever heard of the Indian version of cheesecake? I haven't, but the recipe is there, and it looks great. Great for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Most recipes fall under vegetarianism (lacto-ovo, or vegan). Great info on Indian costoms,etc. You will not regret buying this book.

Exquisite.......2003-08-05

This book is almost too beautiful for words and as one other reviewer mentioned it is a great introduction to the culture of Indian food. Try hot, freshly made chapatis with a generous helping of lemon pickle, simple and delicious. Of course, there is more to these culinary traditions than can be fit in one book. That is why you should buy Julie Sahni's other books as well! As for the reviewer with the maple syrup complaint. First off, Vindaloo is not a traditional North Indian dish, it's pure Southwestern Indian. A dish from the Portuguese Catholics of Goa. Second, maple syrup makes an excellent substitute for the raw Indian sugar traditionally used. So it creates authentic flavor with a not so authentic ingredient.

Excellent Tip-of-the-Indian-Iceberg.......2003-07-12

Sahni presents a nice (albeit brief) introduction to the complexities of Indian cuisine, clearly one of the most underrated and misunderstood culinary traditions. While you won't be able to find every recipe from your favorite Indian restaurant (my wife was most disappointed to find nothing for Navrattan Korma -- which, not incidentally, is called Navrattan Curry in many Indian restaurants!), the Glossary and sidebar items are worth the price of admission. Consider this only one tool in your arsenal if you intend to cook Indian regularly (and, if you don't, WHY NOT?!? ). Indian cooking is very personal, which is why there is such variation from restaurant to restaurant. Don't buck this tradition -- there should be some variation in your dishes, too. Given the number of spices that have been absorbed by the Indian culture, this shouldn't be difficult. As the lovely Indian shopkeeper in my local store told me, "whatever you put in there...is good!"

This was a really cute idea, but my hubby went through and checked all of the things he loved about me. The troubles was right next to all of the things he loved about me - were the things he doesn't love about me.
(Like he doesn't love sharing popcorn with me at the movies. :)
