disappointment.......2006-03-23
none of turner's famous works are included in this. also, the color rendition is not so hot. i wish i could return it!
Good value.......2002-07-16
This is a book of Turner postcards with perforations -- so that you can send the postcards or keep them as a reference. At around 20 cents each (even less when I bought it) it seems like good value.

A Marine with Insights into both the Military and Journalism.......2003-01-01
Clif Cormier's humble beginnings in Cajun country provide the launching of a young man who became a career Marine as well as a career newspaperman. He fought in WWII and Korea, led his men through dangers, and lived to write about his experiences with great clarity and vivid details. When he retired from the military, Cormier attended and graduated from the University of Florida and became a news reporter and later a city editor of a major newspaper. His story gives people insight into perseverance and adherance to values. He describes his travels in both the Pacific and later throughout the world. Cormier's writing makes this book a must for people who want to read about US Marine Corp life as well as life after the military. Excellent book that holds reader's interest! Semper Fi!
A Wonderful Read.......2002-12-31
I read this book in one night--A very interesting look into the life of a military man during World War II, and also the typical life for a boy growing up in Louisiana during the Depression. It is well written, and has a very informative prologue. Highly enjoyable; at times sad, and at times very funny.
He has led a very interesting life; I have recommended this book to a number of people, and will continue to do so.
The way it was by an outstanding leader.......2002-12-25
Captain Clif Cormier was my Battery Commander, at Hotel Battery 3rd. Battalion 10th Marines when I was a young 2nd Lt. in 1959. I found him to be an outstanding leader, firm but fair with those who served under him.
I was fortunate to recieve one of his books directly from Captain Cormier and am ordering 2 more for my children to read. It is a story of what it was like growing up in the depression and being a Marine through World War II, Korea, the peacetime Marines and what opportunities retirement can bring.
When Captain Cormier retired, his officers pooled their money (which we didn't have much of) and bought him a second hand typerwriter. We knew he would be as good a journalist as he was a Marine and we wanted to show our respect for him.
I recommend this book for all who have served in the Military,
those who love history, and those who just like a good story about a real life hero.

Book Description
A breakthrough book for America's 2.5 million breast cancer survivors, showcasing the pioneering "Focus on Healing" exercise-and-movement program touted by physicians coast-to-coast and recommended by the American Cancer Society.
The months following breast cancer treatment can bring a difficult combination of emotional and physical challenges, including a decreased range of motion, pain, fatigue, and depression. But when Sherry Lebed Davis's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1979, Davis and her two brothers, both physicians, created a special movement therapy program to speed their mother's healing. Spurring extraordinary success in her and many others, "Focus on Healing" soon became on of the first hospital-endorsed dance and exercise programs in the nation, a prescription that Davis came to appreciate even more when she herself became a breast-cancer survivor in 1996.
Taking a unique, proven approach to healing, Thriving After Breast Cancer shares the easy-to-follow techniques that have improved the lives of thousands of patients. Embracing psychological recovery and treatment of chronic pain, Davis's "Focus on Healing" regimen consists of stretches and dance-inspired moves that restore flexibility and balance while minimizing discomfort. With exercises to address a full range of specific situations, whether the reader has experienced chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, of a full masectomy, Thriving After Breast Cancer offers solutions that can be gently eased into a patient's routine. Now adopted by more than one hundred hospitals around the country (including New York City's prestigious Memorial Sloan-Kettering) and picking up where medical treatment leaves off, Davis's program gives breast cancer survivors an uplifting, empowering next step on the road to restoring the life that they life.

I am the Author.......2003-07-29
This book also addresses exercises and information for those with Lymphedema. However when you go to Google, Yahoo.com or any search engine.......this book does not come up when you type in Lymphedema. It does come up for a lot of other needs like cancer, exercise, health, disease, fitness, etc which is also what the book has in the way of exercise and information, but perhaps people with Lymphedema are missing out by not including the connection to Lymphedema as well.
Thank you for your time.
Thriving After Breast Cancer.......2002-10-23
Users will find Sherry Lebed Davis' book inspirational and valuable. It is easy to follow with many useful photos.
I fully recommend "Thriving After Breast Cancer" by Sherry Lebed Davis. Buy a copy for yourself and a friend or family member in need. You will be glad you did.
A Life-Saver for Body and Spirit!.......2002-10-09
Upbeat, inspiring, innovative, medically sound, and therapeutic in the broadest, most uplifting sense! I was privileged recently to have been present at a Book Signing attended also by many women who had been members of the Focus on Healing Classes, some of them for a long time period. You have never seen such a vibrantly beautiful collection of "winners" gathered in one spot to celebrate the joys of participating in the program described. Sherry herself is Positive Force personified, and her cup-half-full take on life shines through every page of the book, as it describes her wonderful program. An absolute must-have for anyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer. Buy it!
thriving after breast cancer.......2002-10-09
this book has all of the information to keep your body and mind focused after breast cancer surgery it helped me get through my most devasting time of my life. i sent this book to 5 of my friends and family that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. it was my savior and i recommend this book to every woman that has been diagnosed or has a friend or family member who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Thriving!.......2002-10-08
Thriving After Breast Cancer is a revelation to breast cancer survivors. The models used are all survivors, all ages and shapes, and all beautiful, even with compression sleeves on! Sherry Lebed Davis has done a wonderful service for survivors by bring out this book of easy and accessible exercises for women who are going through an extremely difficult time. It is good to see the light at the end of the tunnel and to know that you can come out healthy, vibrant and alive! I highly recommend this book to breast cancer survivors (thrivers!) no matter how long ago they had surgery. The chapter on lymphedema, alone, is worth the price of the book.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2006-12-06
I enjoy canning and preserving and saving food for later. This book enables me to do all of that safely. There are recipes for using what you have put up so you don't wonder how to use the ten jars of pickles you have made (for example). This is a useful book. Now when I luck into a great sale on fruits or veggies or we have a bumper crop in our garden I can figure out what to do with it.
Enjoy.
A primer for many types of food preservation and prep..........2003-11-14
This book covers canning, freezing, juicing, drying, cold storage/root cellaring as well as making and preserving your own dairy products. It provides a lot of helpful illustrations and many alternative methods of getting the job done given the equipment available (or not available) to you. In fact, this is the first time I've seen directions on making ice cream without a fancy maker!
This is actually the first book that made me think I could actually make my own cottage cheese or fruit flour.
They also walk the produce-newbie through choosing good produce and the differences in varieties; but for us suburban gardeners, they also help us find varieties good for preserving (including actual company names) and tips on harvesting at a good time.
The meat chart was priceless. I don't intend to purchase an animal to be butchered (although there are yields and advice given for this) but I found knowing what type of meat cut came from where was incredibly helpful in buying my meat in the grocery store! I also found the section on cutting up a chicken into pieces very valuable as well--since I can find whole chickens very easy. Likewise with instructions on filleting a fish. Knowing how to do this allows me to save money when purchasing! They then, of course, show you how to preserve them... and other seafoods and meats.
Last, they also cover nuts, grains, seeds and sprouts--getting/harvesting, preserving and recipes for using them.
the food police.......2003-10-27
Beware, in this third edition, the author has decided that you should not have salt, nitrates, sugar or vinegar, these are staple ingredients for food preservation.Because of this, the chapter on preserving and smoking meat has been deleted. Also, many of the pickle recipes have been much altered for the worse. Additionally, imagine the preserves and jellies without sugar (honey as a substitute) . I feel I have been cheated by not being informed of these changes in the description of this book.If a cookbook author decides to set themselves up as the food police, they should inform you of that fact up front. I find the book useless. I am still looking for a real food preservation book.
The Classic Book for Food Preservation.......2001-07-28
It's a little disconcerting that we need a book to teach us what our Grandmothers new instinctively or by shared knowledge. But, in our whirlwind world of prepared food and fast food, even the most basic preservation techniques can seem like a foreign language.
If you only use one tenth of the valuable information in this book to prepare your own organic dishes, your life will be made that much more whole and healthy. This is a complete guide full of know how that will get your do it yourself juices flowing. The four main headings are:
Vegetables and Fruits make up the first chapter which covers everything from picking the best variety of tomato(or any other fruit or vegetable) to grow for freezing or drying, to how to dry, freeze, pickle, can, or juice that tomato. It also teaches you how to turn your tomatoes (or other veggies) into relish, jelly and more. The recipes in this chapter have been created with the freezer in mind, but they are so good, they may not make it that far.
Dairy Foods ,the focus of the next chapter, churns up all the facts on milk, cream, eggs, butter, cheese, ice cream and even yogurt. I like the 'what can go wrong sections'; they must have anticipated I would read this book.
Meats, Poultry and Fish make up the third chapter. Here we learn how to freeze combination dishes (so they aren't little blocks of ice when we go to cook them later), as well as, the proper way to dry and can these staples.
Nuts, Seeds, Grains and Sprouts is one of my favorite sections. Making fresh herb and nut breads and spreading them with nut or herb butters makes me head for the kitchen.
This book was revised in 1990 and it may differ slightly from the information above. You see I have been using the book since 1978 when it first came out. Some information is timeless.
THE CANNER'S BIBLE!.......2000-06-22
I wanted to begin putting up food like my grandparents but didn't have the background or knowledge. After reading this book, I feel like the expert. Extremely easy to understand and very useful. From storing garden vegetables in the Fall to putting up pickles, making raspberry jam, canning tomatoes, this book is excellent. Expert safety advice, how-to instructions, recipes, diagrams, etc. This is the only book you should need to begin putting up your garden produce. This really is the canner's bible!

Customer Reviews:
Helpful but lacking revelations.......2002-03-14
Prety much your typical how-to for dogs book. I expected to learn more but it's pretty much a beginner book with lots of harsh and critical "do you really deserve a shepherd?" righteous indignation. I guess they figure you'd really buy a book about shepherds if you didn't have one???
Anyway, it's helpful but certainly not required reading.
Nicely Done.......2000-04-04
This book is worth buying. It has many good tips and information of german shepherds. Lots of pictures of nice looking shepherds. Read it from cover to cover and use it as a reference.

Customer Reviews:
Something for everyone in my family in this book, very nice!.......2004-07-30
I have made several items from this book, mostly substituting less expensive yarns, and the patterns are clear and not at all confusing. I did splurge and buy from the Green Mountain Spinnery (using their website) to make Rosemary's Little Sweater and the Artisan's Vest, and it was well worth it! Beautiful yarn, and the sweaters will last for a long time.
The cover photo depicts one of the most complicated sweaters--I've only been knitting for a year, and wouldn't tackle one like that yet. But there are plenty of easy patterns inside the book, for all ages. I've made sweaters for the whole family from age 4 through 36, and all have loved them.
To me, these are classic patterns and this is a book that won't become dated. I have Stitch N' Bitch and Hot Knits, and they are great too, but I think I'll be knitting things from this book long after the other two books start collecting dust on my shelf. You don't have to be an experienced knitter to make many of these patterns, and the results are very pleasing. I would give the book five stars if the GMS yarn wasn't so expensive! It's not too difficult to substitute yarns--I found out the yardages from the GMS website and then consulted with my local yarn shop staff to come up with suitable substitutions.
As for the book advertising the spinnery, I don't think this is a big deal at all. There are four pages in the beginning of the book which discuss their spinnery, and then four more pages that go into technique, abbreviations used and using the patterns. There are ninety pages of patterns, and then an appendix section where they provide photos and information about their yarns (there is also a page entitled, "What makes Spinnery yarns so special?"). Grand total of spinnery promoting pages: 8.
Great pictures bul little else.......2004-07-05
This is basically a pattern book pretending to be a literary and photo history of a commercial enterprise (the Green Mountain Spinnery). Loved the pictures--could do without the hype and self serving copy about the business. Also, the paterns are quite ordinary (there was one I liked--but it wasn't worth the cost of the book to get it) and dificult to use as I don't want to have to carry around the hard copy book everywhere I go. Your money will be better served on something else.
Five Stars from Knitter's Review!.......2004-05-28
In a world of super-bulky scarves, knitted cell phone cozies, and make-it-in-a-weekend sweaters (all of which have their place, don't get me wront), this book is a beacon for those looking for a little more meat.
Many of these patterns have been available through GMS for years. On the one hand, this means you don't get hip, trendy, up-to-the-minute innovation. But on the other hand, this means you get tried and tested patterns that are as close to perfection as you can get. The instructions are clearly written, the layout is easy to navigate, and I couldn't find a single confusing element in any pattern.
Stylistically speaking, I'd consider these patterns "nouveau New England." They use Green Mountain Spinnery yarns exclusively, eschewing fringe, fluff, and bouclé for the beauty of a well-turned cable and balanced intarsia.
And the pictures! Don't get me started. Lush and gorgeous from start to finish.
That's why I give this book five stars. It is a fixture on my bedside table. Any time I need sweet knitterly dreams, I just pop it open and start reading.
Patterns are not for everyone.......2004-05-06
I purchased the book based on the (few) previous reviews, and primarily for patterns, but was disappointed. There is nothing that my teenage daughter would ever wear; no sweaters that my husband cared for; and only one sweater I might even want for myself. What may seem classic to some people is old-fashioned to others. The patterns are "stodgy"-looking -- boxy with little fit. And as is unfortunately typical of many knitting patterns, the yardage for the projects is not given. Instead it gives the number of skeins of their brand of yarn. There are also several pages devoted to descriptions of the Green Mountain store and their yarns, but I didn't want to pay for advertisements and basic patterns that are found elsewhere. I have found more appealing patterns free on the internet, so check this out at your library first to see if these patterns suit you.
Thirty popular knitting designs.......2003-11-15
A production of knitting expert Margaret Klein Wilson and the Green Mountain Spinnery, The Green Mountain Spinnery Knitting Book: Contemporary And Classic Patterns collects under one cover thirty of the most popular knitting designs drawn from the famous Green Mountain Spinnery of Vermont. Color photographs and meticulous instructions teach the aspiring knitter how to pour her (or his!) all into a snug, warm, and eye-catching creations. The Green Mountain Spinnery Knitting Book is a superb addition to any personal or community library needlecraft instructional reference collection.

The Exact Type of Gardening Book I Needed!.......2000-04-14
I was so pleased to find this book. I am a beginning gardener, and I wanted to find out about all kinds of landscaping ideas and plants. This book has beautiful color photos of different ornamental grasses and groundcovers, one area I am interested in. It also includes a detailed description of each, and important information about climate, growing guidelines, height, and spread. Armed with the information in this book, I can now visit my local garden center knowing exactly what I want for my yard.
This book is especially attractive to me because of the way in which the material is presented. It is easy to browse and appealing to the eye. I found myself sitting for hours looking through the book to determine what types of grasses and groundcovers appealed to me the most. I have not found any other garden books which present their material in such a user-friendly manner. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in starting or enhancing their garden and landscape.
Customer Reviews:
Thorough, a good resource........2000-08-20
In my opinion, a combo approach is the best bet at increasing your survival if you have been diagnosed with cancer. The information given here gives you a number of ways you can go about getting that combination therapy. When family members were researching alternative treatments for my grandmother's cancer, we explored this book along with a number of others. This one gave some good information that wasn't presented in other books. We also found a site, iHerb, that offered a variety of cancer fighting supplements along with additional documentation of their abilities. iHerb is a good source if you are seeking the alternatives Bognar mentions in this book.
Encouraging.......2000-06-07
I think one of the best things about this book is that it is very encouraging to the patient. Not only is there hope for surviving cancer, but there are also reassuring words for those who face death after alternative therapies have failed. The author also discusses the impact of the patient's emotional life on getting & healing cancer.
A good beginning.......2000-04-09
David Bogner (and Walter Cronkite in the accompanying 4 hr. PBS videotape special) present a balanced introduction that allows someone recently diagnosed with cancer to get an overview of their treatment options. Without favoring a single approach, Bogner covers conventioal treatments, alternative treatments, psychoimmunity and spiritual approaches. Each of these sections presents a wealth of references where additional information can be obtained. Bogner points out that cancer and its course is a very individual matter and that those who do best are often those most informed about their options. Rather than advocating a particular approach, Bogner suggests that different approaches work best together. The book contains all the information presented in the video tape and then some, but the video tapes done by Walter Cronkite are very warm and reassuring. When Bogner's wife got cancer it took him some time to learn about the options. He wrote this book and produced the PBS special so that others faced with cancer could obtain this information more quickly and easily. He has succeeded in providing an excellent generic overview of treatment options. I can't think of a better, non-partisan basic source of information on cancer treatment than this very inexpensive book. It will not give you all the details about your type of cancer, but it will show you in broad outline the various approaches that are available and where to get more information on them.
Good Advice.......1999-01-26
This book is a current, objective, and informative source of information on conventional and alternative cancer treatment. I came across this book as my sister and I desperatly tried to find helpful information about treating cancer. This book impressed me as being the perfect book for anyone who is suddenly confronted with the disease for the first time and needs to get informed. They couldn't have picked a more fitting title.

I feel sorry for anne frank because she did not get to be free. I recommend this book to people who are not prejudice because some people did not like jewish people like Adolf .A.Hitler.I think that the people who read it are going to enjoy it because it was alot of fun reading anne franks diary.Because you can see how she sufferd hiding in the secret anex for 3 years .

A remarkable diary written by a remarkable girl!.......2001-05-06
Anne Frank lived a secret life with her family. She had to hide from the Nazis and she wrote her experiences in a diary. This is written for ages 4-8, however I would recommend it for ages 6-8. This story has more complex sentence structure, information boxes an alphabetical glossary and a comprehensive index.
When Otto gave Anne a red and light-green checked notebook with a metal lock, she never imagined the impact she would have on the world by writing her thoughts down. This is in a story format with snippets from the actual diary.
There is a picture of the place Anne hid and a picture of Anne Frank. This book just brings her story to life for young children. When people think of Anne, they think of her courage, her sense of humor and her hopes for the future.
The actual diary was first published in America in 1952 as Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. Anne dreamed of becoming one of the most famous authors in the world. I just wish she had lived to realize her dream.
For me, Anne Frank is symbolic of everything that is right about life and everything that is wrong about war. Thankfully Miep Gies kept Anne's diary which sadly, she had hoped to return to Anne. I think this book will help younger children gain a new appreciation for the lives they have and realize that not all children were as lucky to live the life they live.
Inspirational and sad, all at the same time. I have also reviewed the movie called: The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) which shows the beauty of the her spirit in the midst of an evil and ugly war.
