Flinders Petrie began his long association with ancient Egypt and the Near East when he went to Giza to survey the pyramids in 1880. Until his death in Jerusalem in 1942 he continued to dig almost until the end. During his long career he revolutionised Egyptian archaeology and indeed can be said to have founded modern scientific archaeology. But this book is not concerned with his scientific work, except tangentially, as Petrie had an admirable practice of publishing his excavations soon after they were completed. These letters and journals have been selected for their vivid account of living in Egypt and Palestine for sixty years. Even more they describe Petrie's austere approach to a dig where the archaeology was everything and creature comforts near non-existent. Many anecdotes survive of life on one of Petrie's digs and the reality as revealed in these accounts is just as eccentric. Astonishingly when Flinders married Hilda she took to the Petrie system like a duck to water (usually lacking). Her accounts of life in the camp and of the workmen and villagers are just as alive and vibrant as his. In this book anyone interested in archaeology and Ancient Egypt can experience the unique atmosphere of life on a Petrie dig.

Just the book I needed........2007-05-14

Answers key questions about preventing and treating Acid Reflus and other gastrointestional problems.

My only complaint about the book is it should show some diagrams of the organs involved explanations.

Gastrointestinal Health by Miskovitz.......2005-04-03

This is an excellent medicinal reference on the workings of the
gastrointestinal system. The book is written from the perspective
of conventional medicine. It discusses classic gastrointestinal
issues; such as, difficulty in swallowing, gas, non-cardiac
discomfort, chest pain, nausea, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss and constipation. Abdominal pain on the left side is associated with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Pain on the right
side of the abdomen may be Crohns related. Diarrhea and rectal
bleeding are the classic symptoms of Crohns disease. The CT scan,
MRI, endoscopy and colorectal examinations are the classic
invasive techniques for detection. Non-invasive tests involve
analysis of the breath, blood tests, stool and fecal occult exams. Duodenal ulcers are caused by H-pylori. Standard treatments are H2 blockers, pepcid AC and proton pump inhibitors.
Prilosec is a classic proton inhibitor.

The work is a must for any health enthusiast. The problems
described are classic middle-age conditions encountered by
large portions of the population for a variety of reasons
ranging from genetics to junk food consumption. The work is
a solid investment for the price charged. Acquiring this volume will help you to discuss any of the symptomatology intelligently

People food prepared is not good for dogs. Onions (raw or cooked) and garlic are toxic to dogs. Eating them is as serious as Chocolate. What is a natural diet for a human is NOT a natural diet for dogs and I am glad someone has finaly come out with a safe book that won't kill my dog.

A GREAT BOOK FOR EVERYBODY WITH A BOWEL!.......2004-06-15

Last year I had to have a polyp removed surgically. When the doctor performed a colonoscopy he found a suspicious area and performed a biopsy (this was embedded in the mucosa so he could not snip it off like he would a polyp). The biopsy showed it was an adenoma with high-grade dysplasia - or a step away from cancer. The first surgeon I went to was going to perform a "temporary colonoscopy", the second one said he would just remove the growth (unless they found it was deeper than anticipated). The week before the surgery I went to the library and happened to find this marvelous little book. And I must say, it alleviated my fears greatly!! All turned out well, with same-day surgery and no complications. Now it is time to have another test - and the worries and fears have come back. So, now I am going to order this book to have on hand whenever I become too concerned about "what's going on"? This is a very self-educating, easy to read book and would be helpful to practically everybody who has had any bowel discomfort or GI problems.

Everyone involved in usability needs a highlighted, or bookmarked iwth post-it notes, copy of this book. Its always powerful to back up how important usability is to others who are unfamiliar with its power, be it your team or a client, and this book shows you how to do figure out the return of investment with dollars, something everyone understands. Bio for Bach breaks barriers........1999-05-29

Pardon me I was overcome with alliteration. This book is a brief but detailed synopsis of Bach's life and experiences. Good book for those who just want to learn about "The Man", but don't want to read a 300 page book. :) Has a complete BWV listing of his works!
