This book is a must read for all who are interested in the integration of body/mind/spirit. Dr. Fitzgerald leads the reader through a comprehensive and in depth journey of health and healing that encompasses all three elements into an easy to follow and understand program of fundamental wellness.

This book answered many questions for me and helped me to understand that I can achieve optimum health with ease, grace and a gentle progression of healthy lifestyle and dietary changes that I can live with and incorporate into my life.

Thanks to Dr. Patricia Fitzgerald for writing her book The Detox Solution. It's full of the answers to the questions I've had about changing my lifestyle for optimum health. I'm so glad this book has found it's way into my life. It's an amazing resource. I've already begun to use some of the suggestions on a daily basis and am already noticing a difference.

Dr. Fitzgerald has provided an amazing book which has allowed me to understand how I can better participate in improving my mind, body, and spirit. What I like a lot about this book is that the author has taken a potentially complex topic like detoxification and made it easy to understand. This is a book that I will refer to time and time again. You can decide to make a few changes or undergo a profound transformation; the possibilities are endless. Unlike some books which make lofty promises and promote the myth that a significant detox program can be done in a week or a few days, The Detox Solution is realistic and helps you to understand that detoxification is about lifestyle choices that can be improved, gently and one at a time. A major part of this book that also helped me is the area that deals with emotional/spiritual stress and how to have a better attitude towards myself and others. As I keep applying the suggestions in this book, I notice my health and well being is improving significantly.

This book is very comprehensive and readable. It also just makes a lot of sense. I was originally interested in the book for it's detox info - which I find very valuable- but I'm really liking its information on general health issues. I definitely recommend it.

The Detox Solution is essential reading for all who value their health. Dr. Fitzgerald has written a work that is part of the canon of nutritional information. I would rank it along side Balch and Balch's "Nutritional Healing" as a book that can be referred to over and over for answers to the healthful enrichment of life through detoxing. In that we are what we eat, the Detox Solution shows us that we are even better from what we eliminate. Fitzgerald spells out A to Z do's and don'ts and head to toe explanations of the body's systems for optimal health. The key is what she tells to use to help the body is as important as what we must avoid that will hinder it. This is not a populist fad but a proven medical way to health and well being.

Despite tackling the intense period of development from before birth through age 5 in little more than 600 pages, senior editor Patrick S. Pasquariello--director of the hospital's Diagnostic Center and professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine--does not skimp on information. He touches upon an extraordinary number of subjects in each of these stages. For instance, under the heading "Other Tests During Pregnancy," in addition to the expected ultrasound and amniocentesis sections, there's a paragraph addressing in utero surgery--a specialty of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Objectivity and Answers.......2005-08-16

This book is a wealth of information; I've already tried many of the parenting techniques provided with great success. It never makes it back to my bookshelf for long because I am always referring to it. What's more, the information is presented in an objective, non-judgemental way. You are never made to feel like you're a "bad mother" just because you can't stay home from work or have trouble breastfeeding. It simply provides all the information you need, then the decision is up to you to decide what's best for you and your baby. A nice change from some of the other parenting books that seem to be written by authors who believe that their way is the only way.

All in one.......2001-02-19

This is my first parental experience for me and my wife .we expect a little girl in a few months. We are very excited and we are trying to get prepared as best as we can. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Book of Pregnancy and Child Care was really a very good choice, it was recommended by a friend whose case is very similar to mine. The book is very good to read and use as a reference too, it is very detailed dealing with every case the mother may have from serious illness to leg crumbs .The book really covers all three stages of pregnancy, childbirth and childcare in a way that satisfies you and keeps you away from the headache of buying other books for such stages. Having such source of information covering mother health during and after pregnancy, baby's nutrition, signs and behavior milestones gave us too much confidence to deal with our first child in a professional way. One last comment is that the book is very bold at stating facts that may harm your baby like for example what smoking may cause to the baby. I think the book is reliable, complete and advanced

Wood, Fire, and Transformation: A Sculptor's Journey.......2001-09-07

Diane Derrick's from flitch to ash: a musing on trees and carving which takes glimpses into the writer/sculptor's memory of her forays with flitch (wood) including amazing digitized depictions of the scupture pieces is a work of art itself. The fact that the actual wooden scupture pieces no longer exist because of a devastating fire gives the reader a strange sense of perception and reality. The more one reads, the more magical and wonderful this unique book seems to be. Derrick draws the reader into another world. She mesmerizes and explains in an emotionally satisfying way that which may be unfamiliar, the mystical nature of wood, its history in art, and the compulsion that drew the author/sculptor to explore its ever-changing qualities and to choose wood sculpting itself as a form of artistic expression.

flitch to ash is not like a murder mystery you rush through to see "who done it", athough there are similarities that come to mind. There is a murder of sorts, there is a mystery to solve, and there is context, shadow, and much light shed on the subject of crafting wood as well as a keen sensibility of the larger landscape, the Mother of Wood, the darker mystical places, Forests. The author's discussion contrasting the use of wood and clay provides emotional insight into Derrick's experiences as she changes her medium of expression.

This little book surprised me. My fascination for it seems neverending. I keep going back again to look at the black and white images as well as the color plates. Each time is different as I focused on ideas and feelings that Derrick expresses about her work. The pieces themselves seem to come to life so full of character and womanly verve. You begin to see the individual subjects, both human and animal, come to life before your very eyes. They pop out, as the author described her first experience sculpting a face out of wood. There still is much to learn.

At age twenty-nine, Iwry was forced to flee again--this time from the Soviets--and ended up in Shanghai, joining 20,000 Jewish refugees already there. The story of the diaspora caused by the Holocaust is well-known, but the Far Eastern dimension has come to light only very recently. Iwry's story unfolds in his own compelling words, conveying the harrowing details of flight and survival into vivid detail. Leslie Kelly suceeds in placing Iwry's experiences into much wider historical context. This oral history sheds light on Jewish life in eastern Europe during the inter-war period, the search for a safe haven from Nazis and Soviets, daily life in the Shanghai ghetto, and emigration to America. Iwry's story is representative of the Jewish experience but also completely unique.

fascinating book.......2007-03-16

The book reads like your grandpa talking directly to you, so it is realling interesting although it rambles a bit. But this man had an incredible life and it is a fascinating window on the plight of Jews who escaped the holocaust through Shanghai. DEspite all he and his family went through, he can still spike the story with humor. It's hard to put it down and it really makes you think. Highly recommended!

Jewish Refugees on the Eastern Front and in Asia During WWII.......2005-03-27

Samuel Iwry, a Jewish scholar, gives a remarkable first person account of his experiences fleeing Poland, going across Russia to Japan, then to Shanghai, and ultimately to America, in flight from the Nazis, beginning in 1939. Examples are use of forged documents, crossing a border surreptitiously, waiting in Vilnius for opportunity, detention in Shanghai (with 20,000 other Jewish refugees), and travel to the U.S. (where he settled in Baltimore and became a professor at Johns Hopkins). Highly readable and suitable for adults and young adults.
