The Law Of Land Warfare is quite clear, in that ANY person fighting in uniform, who surrenders, is to be afforded Prisoner Of War Status under the Geneva Convention.
On page 157 he relates how four captured Germans "in uniform" were ordered by the Battalion Commander..."to be stood against the playground wall and shot".
On page 158 he relates..."The oldest could not have been more than sixteen, and the youngest probably only fourteen."
The author/witness does not relate that anyone.....
ANYONE!... even raised a peep of protest, objection, or argument to these murders of children who legally should have been afforded Prisoners Of War Status under the Geneva Convention.
No legal justification is provided.
In 1983, when this book was published, and this veteran "told all",
had it been Germans executing adult Partisans fighting out of uniform,
all hell would have broken lose,
with crininal investigations of any and all surviving members of the self-admitted War Criminal Glider Battallion, (British) Sixth Airborne Division.
But this was not even that...
These ...were...C H I L D R E N !.....WHO... WERE... IN ...UNIFORM !

Fantastic reference.......2003-07-06

Both beginners and more advanced players should be able to get a lot out of this quality reference work as it offers detailed (yet practical) text, illustrationa and diagrams covering all aspects of the game. The book is considered by most experts in the sport to be among the top two or three instructionals ever published on Squash. It won't make you a championship quality player, but it should help your game no matter what skill level you are currently at.

I found the drills in this book to be very helpful in improving my game. It is an excellent resource for beginners/intermediate players. The drills are very good for improving accuracy. For those of you willing to impove their game this book is an excellent buy.

I bought this book to look at the drills and the workouts one needs to do to imporve the oncourt acceleration, endurance and stamina. This books have lot of drills which one can do to improve his or her game. Lot of strokes can be practised by oneself but there are a lot of drills that the book describes which need the help of a partner, which are very good for ball control like playing a game where both partners hit the ball to the back of the court and point is scored if the person hits short of the mid court line. etc., etc.,
In other words this is an excellent for all beginners/ intermediate players.

I bought this book out of frustration. Unable to beat my partner despite practicing secretly, I was hoping this book may help improve my game. Though it has useful drills and tips, I still cannot beat my partner. Rather than award this book 4 stars and recognize limits of my talent, I hold the author responsible.

This book does offer a lot to an intermediate player who needs to improve their technique. Final analysis: Very useful for the beginner to intermediary category, no revelations for strong intermediates and up.

Be aware that the dimensions of book are similar to a magazine, not something you can shove into your racquet cover.

A basic overview.......2001-05-28

This is a good book for beginners. It covers basic technique and some general court tactics. Squash is a difficult sport to teach via the printed medium.

I have found the best way for intermediate players to improve is to watch live matches,buy or rent video tapings of the pros(and to learn how to juggle).

Likely To Improve Your Game.......2006-06-13

This book offers a good deal of useful information to the beginner and intermediate racquetball player. Even if you have played racquetball for some time, this book should still offer you some practical advise and strategies to improve your skills. The book is logically organized around 18 "steps to success," and there are instructions for specific drills to be carried out individually or with a partner to master each step. A number of figures complement the explanations throughout the book, though I wish the author had also included some real-life pictures to better illustrate some of the techniques. I have played racquetball intermittently for many years without much formal instruction, and this book, indeed, improved my game. All and all, this is a good source to read and refer to if you wish to develop as a racquetball player.

Be a better player, if you have not had other instruction........2002-12-04

This book was definitely designed for a beginner to low intermediate player that has not had any organized racquetball training. The six rules to a better game really have helped me, by teaching me winning strategy. The six rules are also not to overwhelming to stay focused on the techniques during my games.

Nice workbook format with very good diagrams and practice drills to actually get you on the court practicing. The practice drills focus on building each individual skill allowing the end result to come to you naturally over time and practice (sorry the perfection of the skill does take time and practice- otherwise we'd all be incredible wouldn't we)?

I also liked that fact that the author did not bore me with the history of the game, the racquet, or many other frivolous items (there are a few, but they are quick). He gets down to the business of how to simply play better racquetball.

I cheated and skipped around from chapter to chapter getting the most bang for my buck in the shortest time. If something in a chapter needed some supporting info or skill I was referred back to the other chapter. However, I read the entire book and did find some great info on areas that I was more familiar with before I started the book.

If you are an advanced player look elsewhere for improving an intermediate or better game. If you are starting out or never learned racquetball strategy you can't go wrong with this book.

This book has been a great source of information and has helped to improve my game. The author does a good job of identifying the different aspects of the game and describes each well. The various shot drills and court diagrams are also a great learning tool. Anyone who wants to improve their racquetball and follows this manual can't help but get better.

Beautiful book, but ..........2007-05-13

I have made one quilt (Big Red)from this book and will probably make more. The quilts are beautiful and the photos are excellent, which was fortunate because I found the instructions very difficult to follow. You are constantly being referred to other pages and it's difficult to determine where the instructions for "your" quilt end and the next one begins. I also think they made a mountain out of a molehill because many of the instructions seemed unnecessary. I ignored many of them and did what made sense to me, with the help of the excellent photography. Having said that I would like to add that the quilt went together beautifully. It truly is not difficult once you figure out what is going on. I gave it 4 stars because, to me, it was worth the aggravation and I am extremely happy with the quilt.

This Encylopedia is understandable, informative, beautifully written, focused layout making it easy to find your topic of interest, contains rare diseases not easily found for the laymen to purchase in local store i.e. papillademi, and well priced for all the medical research contained. ... An essential book for your family, friends, social, and business associates. The perfect gift for the person you love and want to see stay healthy or become healthier. Instead of unhealthy cookies and cakes to bring your Host and then consumed in minutes, I recommend this "healthy gift of Life", an everlasting colorful book (not costing much more than the baked cookies) and this will really show you CARE about your loved ones more than about your own talents in the kitchen. Regarding the Library Journal Editorial Review above:

1. First you mention it is a comprehensive encyclopedia and then you state that they covered the subjects more briefly than other books. The fact is that it covers the widest range of topics. Should a reader be interested in that topic, he/she can then read other books devoted just to that particular heading. The whole purpose of this encyclopedia I believe is to introduce the widest range of health topics, to define and describe, illustrate so that the reader is informed and then again can go out and buy a comprehensive book by Cornell doctors regarding Heart Disease specifically if that the case. ..or the reader can call upon the doctors in this book practicing at Cornell Medical Center, part of NY Presbyterian Hospital for medical care and further reading recommendations. How wonderful to have all these topics in one book to educate.

2. Unnecessarily obtuse? I feel the book is very sharp and clean with a one sentence definition in blue. One sentence or the "bottom line" is all that readers have time for when researching unless of course they then decide to buy a book about one subject.

3. You said book written as 12th grade reading level that is high for this type of work. Have not a clue as to what you mean and I feel 12th grade reading level and people with no reading level entitled to books on HEALTH. This book is for everyone whether health care people or nonclinical people and it accomplished that well.

4. First Aid should be in the front? Then it would look like a regular first aid book which it is not. Wait for emergency and then read a book to see what to do? Is that what you would do? I read the first-aid portion already so when I have emergency I will already know what to do because I read it. And because I read it I will also know that first aid listing is in back of book which is just fine. It is a reference and people should read this book so they are prepared when emergency arises and to not wait until you are bitten by a horse to then look for the first aid page to see what to do then. Good that it is "wordy" as you put it to help people understand what to do in emergency procedures as an "overview" BEFORE the emergency occurs and of course during an emergency they can refer to it again just to be sure they treated the injury correctly.

5. I found the photographs to be just right in size and color and for those I wanted to see more vividly, I used a magnify glass so it was perfect and this way more space for everything these doctors/medical professors included. People should always have magnifying glasses in bathroom and kitchen to read expiration dates and first aid clearly. So having magnifying glass around should be no problem for anyone at home or business as business cards often tiny print when reading emails. Just something we all have to live with.

I feel this encyclopedia is EXCELLENT, could not have been better! Besides its shortcomings as you stated, there are NONE.

Tough but necessary read.........2007-09-21

It is hard to read this book because the subject matter is so grim. It is not written especially well but the unique view of the author makes this an important document. It is clear that the Nazi plan developed over time and it was truly a murder machine. This story from inside the machine is sad and ultimately worth reading and remembering.

Most graphic and gripping.......2007-09-02

Since my tour of duty in Augsburg and Schwaebish Hall W. Germany (mid-60's) I have read fifty books trying to undersand the holocaust. I found the German people warm and generous, thus was unable to put the two continums in the same world.

This book does not help you understand the reasoning behind that most powerful historical event, but it does give you an extremely graphic picture of HOW it was done on a day to day basis.

Filip Mueller, saw things that Hoess (Commandant of Auschwitz) did not see first hand and he tells it all.

Highly recommended. Gripping, suspenceful. Manages to unnerve, shock, without hysterics--and this is the best type of approach for something this gruesome.

How did the author live through it? How would you have dealt with it? How would I?

Get it. Read it.

And for those who think by simply saying NEVER AGAIN that it won't, couldn't happen again, are only fooling themselves. Humans never learn a damn thing from history. Why? Because we're basically retarded.

It could happen again, and in fact, it has happened--to a lesser degree. I say any time a Hitler or Saddam wannabe rears his ugly head--you better believe there are a few of them out there even right now--confront
the control-hungry pissant to keep him from attaining enough power to reach his objective.

Sad but True .......2007-02-18

As I am an avid reader, and am highly intrested in WW2, I bought this book, not to be disapointed. It literally took me only two days to finish because of my intregment. It is a very good read, giving you the true story of what innocent people went through as a result of racism. The book is very graphic, interesting, but terribly sad at the same time. Overall, is a must-read. I highly recomend this book.
