Author Paul Strathern simply and emphatically describes Marie Curie--the pioneering scientist who coined the term "radioactivity"--as "the twentieth century's most exceptional woman." After reading this compact book's 99 pages, you'll likely be inclined to agree.

In the Madame Curie installment of The Big Idea biography series (see also Einstein and Relativity, Hawking and Black Holes), we learn how a young Polish woman managed to bring up two daughters as a single mother while still earning two Nobel prizes and ushering in post-Newtonian science. Strathern humanizes this secular saint, recounting her romances, struggles, and scandals, admirably defeating the cold portrayal she received in the 1938 biography penned by her daughter Eve (a skewed description, Strathern says, that depicted Curie as "one of the most perfectly boring women imaginable").

As with Strathern's other drive-by life stories, this lean little book is not exactly brimming with hard science, and the author's familiar tone doesn't always quite connect. Nonetheless, Curie and Radioactivity ably accomplishes what it sets out to: in less than an hour, you'll find yourself on a first-name basis with one of the century's most exceptional scientists--and women. --Paul Hughes

      Book Description

Revealing the intensity, dedication, and determination of one of the century's most inspiring single working mothers, Curie and Radioactivity is for anyone curious about the "female Einstein, " and even more important, for all those who want to understand her groundbreaking contributions to nuclear physics -- contributions that ultimately cost her her life.

5 out of 5 stars Nice reference and clear instruction.......2001-01-08

I am a fight trainer and I train athletes to compete in full contact and mixed martial arts style fights. I do have some young people that come to me for training. They are between the ages of 12 and 16 and obviously their training must be done differently than a full grown advanced athlete. This book gave me some direction and acknowledges many myths about youths training with weights. It is not a book for body building. Children should not be trying to "bodybuild". This is training for "strength and power".

5 out of 5 stars Great for Parents, Coaches and the Motivated Young Athlete.......2000-08-02

Great sourcebook for young athletes, coaches and parents that debunks the myths associated with physical fitness for children. Provides great guidance to help children safely improve their performance while also helping to prevent injury. A wise investment for the serious young athlete. Recommended by the renowned sports orthopedic practice at Boston's Children's Hospital. Written for adults but readable by children.

1 out of 5 stars STRENGTH TRAINING FOR GRANNIES?.......2000-07-08

This is book really is about toning not for bodybuilders ( esspecially young ones) i think that a young bodybuilder should read magazines and go to a gym to find a routine that could suit ones self, this book gives you little knowledge on why the exercises should be performed.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Basis for a Youth Program.......2006-03-23

This book was an excellent reference that I relied heavily upon to create a strength training program for our Pop Warner football team. Faigenbaum has published results of studies documenting the benefits of strength training for children. This book provides good description of exercises for each muscle group and provides variations using different equipment, .i.e. free weights- dumbbells and barbells, resistance bands and weight machines. One ommission in the book was that his published paper revealed a program that proved superior to others in controlled experiments in terms of results gained.
Program: 3 sets with set #1 being 50% of 10 rep maximum resistance (warm-up), followed by set # 2- 10 reps with 75% of 10 rep max (moderate), and set #3 - max number of reps with 10 rep max resistance.

5 out of 5 stars Required for parents of active children.......2000-10-26

Even if you are an experienced athlete yourself, and former power lifter (like me), this book is great for the research it presents about children and weightlifting, and for the organization of the material. I found the medicine ball portion particularly helpful. Very good pictures.

5 out of 5 stars Strength in a powerful book.......2000-10-18

Strength and Power for Young Athletes is a tremendous help to athletes with both high and low athletic standards and abilities. It is very easy to read and follow. It has appendixes for each sport and categories for each age group.Pictures and a key of what each machine works helps you understand each machine easier.Nutrition guides of carbs and protien is also a big help. This book is great for keeping you in shape.

      5 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2000-07-01

As a former Olympic Athlete I appreciate the importance of keeping children healthy and strong. This book provides all the tools you need to develop safe and effective strength programs for boys and girls. It is an easy read and the photographs are outstanding. This book is a real WINNER!

This is a classic book in the field, rather unique because it discusses strength training from the perspective of an athlete as opposed to a bodybuilder only. Ken Sprague is the owner and operator of the first Gold's Gym, the original strength training center. The book includes pictorials of various exercises and a discussion of lifting strategy. It stresses the importance of weight lifting movements that mirror athletic motions.

          4 out of 5 stars Sensible, no-nonsense, and to-the-point.......2005-06-19

Ms. Wolfe seems to have a deep insight into the ways of dogs and what they'll respond to. Her advice is clearly written and illustrated, with no unnecessary nonsense in between (as opposed to the Uncle Matty book I recently read -- see my review on that).

I've read several books on dog training recently (we had to put our dear old [and almost-perfectly behaved] dog down two months ago, and, yes, today we got a puppy, so I felt I needed a refresher), and I've noticed all have slightly different philosophies: never say no; say no a lot; use treats; don't use treats... But they all emphasize some basic premises: don't say the command more than once, use the dog's name with the command only when it involves motion (heel and come), correct a dog only if he understands the command, be prepared to enforce a command every time you give it... So I figure you should take those basic commonalities, and the rest doesn't matter as much.

Most of the things Ms. Wolfe advises I can accept. I have to disagree with her on one point: using isolation in the kennel as a means of correcting bad behavior. The kennel shouldn't be associated with punishment in any way. Although she compares it with sending a kid to his room -- and a kid's room is not an unpleasant place -- I think it might make the dog not like his kennel after a while.

Of course, this is me on the first day of a new puppy. My tune might change later... In any case, this is a really good book with good, solid advice, presented clearly and succinctly. Maybe I'll report back when we've trained our own Wonder Dog.

5 out of 5 stars A great book for anyone serious about training their dog(s).......1999-11-08

I wanted to be well prepared to add a dog to our family so I purchased and read a great many books on dogs and dog training. This book is enjoyable, practical and it really appealed to me with it's philosophy on dog training.

5 out of 5 stars Learn how to teach your dog to do anything.......1998-10-28

This book taught me how to communicate with my dog, and teach him things in ways that built confidence, trust and loyalty. Easy to understand and illustrated.

4 out of 5 stars deborah had to be a dog in a previous life.......1997-03-28

we have a lab. she likes to eat. anything. but particularly dog shit. nothing worked. not tabasco sauce. not vinegar. not rotting milk. deborah's book was a last resort. goldie is now not only off doggie doo, but she is off her leash and listening, not jumping on grandpa and not sniffing grandma. she still thinks she's quite marlene dietrich type and rolls eyes at the boys, but she was spayed so we indulge her her fantasies as long as she doesn't cross the street to make them a reality. deborah uses common sense, lots of praise, lots of energy and lots of love to teach her lessons on the page. we've met her in real life, too and like i said earlier, she had to be a dog in a previous life, so amazing and intuitive is her understanding of them

The essential materials of feltmaking are basic--wool, hot soapy water, a pair of scissors, and your hands--yet the results are anything but simple. This attractive book explains how to get started in the craft, then thoroughly explores making ropes, beads, and flat pieces of felt (the three basic feltmaking techniques). From there, the felt you create can become sculpted figures, flowers, butterflies, masks, vessels, puppets, buttons and other clothing embellishments, various wearables, and even a miniature scene with manipulatable figures. All of the techniques and projects are carefully explained in step-by-step detail and supported by clear color photos. Most of the items have a lovely folk-art quality, with vivid colors and handmade charm.

4 out of 5 stars Better if you're curious about felt than if you are looking for something specific..........2007-08-12

This is a good book, wonderfully illustrated, with clear directions. It is definitely a good resource for the beginner. However, I was looking to do something specific (make dolls), so only a small portion of the book was pertinent to my task. I should have realized that from the title - it does say that there are lots of different projects to make. The other thing is that this book only covers a single method of felting - called 'wet felting'. There is also a method called 'needle felting', which is not covered in this book at all. I find needle felting easier, less messy, and more 'airy' looking... all of which I liked better for the project I was doing. That said, wet felting is definitely the way to go with kids. It takes a lot of elbow-grease, but is rewarding and fun. This book would be good for someone experimenting with different wet felting projects and those doing projects with kids.

5 out of 5 stars Great for kids on rainy days.......2007-03-18

Using just a few basic techniques, the books show a variety of felt projects. It begins with a history of felt, with lots of information on materials and tools. Projects include felt jewelry, slippers, mittens, hats, balls, dolls, toys, pouches, bowls and masks. Beautifully written and illustrated. 144 pages, soft bound.

This is a great book for beginners. Good instructions and great pictures. Lots of fun ideas.

5 out of 5 stars Want to know what's inside?? Here's a few more details..........2002-07-08

Since my earlier review, we have used this book extensively - kids and mom included. All our children turned out some beautiful artwork, and had a great time in the process.

The layout of the book is well done, and the different methods are covered in a logical order. The pictures are so clear they both illustrate and motivate. It is a pleasure to turn the pages and gaze at the photographs and page designs.

Contents include: getting started-materials and tools, making felt ropes, making beads of many shapes and sizes, rope and bead figures, flat pieces of felt, felt balls, small felt projects such as buttons, flowers and butterflies, masks, felt vessels, seamless wearables, finger and hand puppets, making a felt scene with posable figures, patterns, a source directory (US only unfortunately) and an index. Once you master the basic techniques, it is up to your creativity to reign!

The directions are clear and step by step, making it very "do-able" as a family craft activity. I get the feeling the author must be used to teaching this craft to families and children, as she really spells out each step.

All in all, this was a purchase we are still really happy about - it is a very family-friendly book. It would be great to see further publications by this author showing more advanced techniques, and showcasing her designs.

Nothing is more gratifying than receiving a compliment on a piece of handmade jewelry. However many regard making jewelry as being too difficult and tedious. Basic Jewelry Making Techniques shows how, after mastering only a few basic techniques, crafting even the most complicated jewelry pieces becomes an easy task.

Readers will learn to use techniques such as soldering, texturing, and enameling on wood, acrylic, glass, precious stones, and more. Detailed instructions and illustrations accompany each project, and designs are flexible enough to be modified. Professional jeweler, Jinks McGrath explains how to optimize minimal workspace with suggestions for home workshop designs. She also reviews the necessary tools to begin and the larger equipment to buy as skills develop.

                * Teaches how to optimize space for effective workshop design at home * Includes instant reference tables for conversion formulae and melting point temperatures * Features projects using silver, wood, acrylic, and more that utilize all modern jewelry-making techniques

1 out of 5 stars I can't use this book at all, wish I had known it was for pro's........2006-10-23

This is a book for someone who is going whole hog into the jewelry making business and money and time is no object. This assumes you have a large, well ventilated space for a workbench and hundreds of tools, a kiln, etc. It also assumes you have unlimited money to spend and are planning to devote a very large amount of time to becoming a real manufacturing, metal welding, soldering, kiln-firing jewelry manufacturer.

While a great deal of text is devoted to exactly how to set up your studio, the projects described are devoid of the most basic details and makes the assumption that the reader already knows all about soldering, and other things that jewelry makers do. In short, this is for someone who is already very well practiced in making jewelry and the techniques involved. And the pieces that are shown are not at all to my taste.
They end up looking pretty amateurish in spite of the many pages devoted to describing their assembly. For instance, about fifteen pages are devoted to a very plain sterling silver ring, just a silver band, with a cabochon stone set into silver in it. It is so simple and cheap looking, like about a ten dollar ring, but the amount of detail and steps involved, the amount of labor, the need to know about a dozen advanced techniques such as soldering--which assumes you already know the basic techniques, cutting sheet metal--with the main details of how to do it left out, etc. are so overwhelming, that I can't imagine anyone going to all that trouble to make something you can get at Target for $10 and that will look better.

The details of the many techniques involved are not described at all except in a very general unhelpful way that assumes the reader already knows all about them. In spite of the many photos and instructions you would still need another book to tell a beginner how to solder metal, cut sheet metal, etc.

Wish I had read a review like this before I spent the money on this book.

4 out of 5 stars People really have to read the "Inside This Book section"!.......2006-04-08

You would think that some person shopping for a book would read the "Inside The Book" section of the sales page before getting to the reviews. This Jinks book is divided into four sections
                1.Planning a workshop
                2.Designing a project
                3.Basic techniques
                4.Advanced techniques
Then finishes up with technical info and glossary. As with her other books. The pictures are clear, and follow the flow of work being described. The workshop section will give an idea of what you need to start and what is needed to carry on with some of the fancy work. With ample text to cover the beginners who will pick up this book. It moves one through a couple of projects with varied materials. The advance section is as she states "introduces some additional techniques" along with the statement that you can use one or all the techniques and that any one of them could be the subject of a book. Also she states that if you don't have the tools and or equipment take a class. In The US Adult Education, enrichment classes or community colleges all have classes.
The biggest problem with books on the subject of any hobby/avocation. Is that after you own three or so they all will cover some of the same ground.
I do have to confess I have vary rarely met a book I didn't learn something from. And in the art metal arena, there are as many ways of doing some thing as people doing them.
If you are a beginner and this is your first book you will find it useful to give an overview of the jewelry arts and a nice glimpse in to what is needed in the advance work area and the tools needs to start. I own it and use it.

3 out of 5 stars Beginner or intermediate book?.......2005-08-15

The beginning of the book has lots of basic information about various tools and workshop layouts. There are plenty of photographs of the tools and diagrams of workshop layouts. Helpful for a beginner. There are lots of photographs of finished jewelry and processes throughout the rest of the book. Several projects are demonstrated as well. I found these to require many expensive tools that the beginner would not have. Likewise, the instructions would make sense for someone with experience, but if you have not done the technique before, the author frequently does not give enough information for you to correctly do it on your own. I am not sure if this book is written for the beginner or intermediate jewelry maker. Instead, I recommend Tim McCreight's books which are very similar, but easier to follow.

                4 out of 5 stars For beginners........2004-06-09

Basic Jewelry Making Techniques is an ideal book for beginners, clear and informative.

4 out of 5 stars Typical of a Jinks McGrath book: visually wonderful.......2000-06-12

Like other books by Jinks McGrath, et al, this book is visually appealing with great photos and clear instructions on a number of projects involving metal working skills. While not the end-all, be-all, it is informational enough to help one become practiced easily with simply written explanations and clear visuals. This is a nicely formatted book, worthwhile for introductory and beyond skill building.

                      Book Description

Many parents in their 50s and 60s don't know how to parent their adult children. Yet increases in health and longevity mean that parents and their children may share 40 or more years together as adults. All Grown Up describes how mid-life parents and their grown children can celebrate this new lease on life together by developing loving and egalitarian friendships that are positive and guilt-free. Using conflict resolution strategies borrowed from the field of mediation, a healthy respect for generation-gap issues engendered by the social revolutions of the 1960s and '70s, and a broad spiritual perspective, the author provides both practical solutions to on-going problems, as well as thought-provoking discussions of how these problems came to be.

                      ?

Unlike other books in the field, All Grown Up addresses the cultural changes of the late 20 th century which deeply affect how we approach parenting, self-development and lifestyle issues. The book provides guidance on how parents of adult children can:

                      ?

                      • communicate with their adult children without judgments, or fear of giving praise;
                      ?• let go - and share activities in a stress-free, equal way;
                      ?• deal with crises in their adult children's lives, knowing when and when not to give advice;
                      ?• set boundaries, limits and deadlines;
?• avoid over-identification with their child's successes and failures, and avoid competitiveness; and
?• build understanding, trust and compassion without prying.

                      ?

Wise, compassionate and helpful, All Grown Up will appeal to all mid-life and older parents and children, as well as mediators, therapists, and counselors.

5 out of 5 stars I gave this book to my mother immediately.......2002-04-03

I love this book. I read it in one sitting. I am a therapist who has had a troubled relationship with my parents all my life. Reading this book was so helpful to me in terms of being able to discern how I need my parents to treat me now that I am grown. I have had a hard time articulating to them why their behavior pushes me away rather than brings me closer. Reading this book helped me identify my needs. And then I gave a copy to my mother! She is reading it now and I expect it will really help her know how to love me. The author is so non-shaming that I felt comfortable giving it to my mother and I think she will be able to let in the information. I have also allready used this book with my clients. The book market contains almost nothing on adult child/parent relationships. Thanks to the publishers and author. Roberta Maisel is a very wise and compassionate woman.

                      5 out of 5 stars Excellent reference-not just for parent-child relationships.......2002-01-13

"All Grown Up" by Robert Maisel provides an excellent template for adult relationships/friendships, not just those between adult children and their parents. No one teaches us how to deal with one another as adults - and if the model provided by one's family of origin is all we have to go by, many of us are in quite a pickle! Maisel's unique style of writing is very gentle to all potential readers. She makes her point without producing additional blame/guilt in either the parent or adult child. The anecdotes provided will ring familiar with a multitude of audiences, and the guidance provided is usable in everyday life. I have already started utilizing many of the recommendations in the book on a personal and professional basis in my work with families. In my mind, this functionality is the litmus test for a good book/reference. I'm certain my copy will soon be worn from referencing.

5 out of 5 stars All Grown Up and Still Good Friends.......2002-01-08

Roberta Maisel's book "All Grown Up" does a masterful job of providing a vision for the future for parents of adult children. No longer intimately engaged on a day-to-day basis with the lives of their offspring, many parents have no idea how to graduate into an adult-adult relationship characterized by equality, independence and respect. Maisel fearlessly forges ahead, taking on such sensitive subjects as financial security, privacy and grandparenting. Her notion of letting go of expectations and fantasies about our grown children and how we plan to interact with them is set in the context of individual spiritual development. She urges the reader to "consider your heart" and "pursue truth" rather than cling to some outmoded notion of what family life "should" be like. "All Grown Up" is beautifully written and accessible. It will ease your mind and soothe your soul.

                        Book Description

In this remarkable, never-before-told account of the Ovitz family, seven of whose ten members were dwarves, readers bear witness to the terrible irony of the Ovitz's fate: being burdened with dwarfism helped them to endure the Holocaust. Through research and interviews with the youngest Ovitz daughter, Perla, the troupe's last surviving member, and other relatives, the authors weave the tale of a beloved and successful family of performers who were famous entertainers in Central Europe until the Nazis deported them to Auschwitz in May 1944. Descending into the hell of the concentration camp from the transport train, the Ovitz family—known widely as the Lilliput Troupe— was separated from other Jewish victims. When Josef Mengele was notified of their arrival, they were assigned better quarters and provided more nutritious food than other inmates. Authors Koren and Negev chronicle Mengele's experiments upon this family and the creepy fondness he developed for them. Finally liberated by Russian troops, the family eventually found their way to a new home in Israel where they became wealthy and successful performers. In Our Hearts We Were Giants is a powerful testament to the human spirit, and a triumphant tale that no reader will forget. Photographs are included.

                        5 out of 5 stars a gem..............2007-03-02

Just when I thought I knew all the big stories from the Holocaust, I come upon this... and I had never heard of this family.

My father's family was from this same region in Romania, and I wish my granpa and grandma were alive to ask them questions...who knows? They might have even seen this family perform! Ah, the things we never asked our parents and grandparents when they were alive cause we were so busy in our young lives!

Wonderfully told story about family togetherness...Tender, raw, and real. One can even try to understand why there was a sort of "affection" between the family and their captors--as unbelievable as it seems.

                        Read this one.

                        4 out of 5 stars A very interesting family.......2006-05-13

The family photo on the cover is a classic, and I first saw it as a child in a Time-Life series book. The condition has since been diagnosed as pseudoachondroplasia, a genetic disorder of the cartilage.

Even if it weren't for the religious persecution and horrendous experiments performed on them by Dr. Mengele, this would have been a fascinating story about a challenged family who rose above their obstacles, without being exploited, to lead fulfilling lives. All appeared to be emotionally well-adjusted and totally lacking in self-pity.

People who are interested in the Holocaust and/or dwarfism should read this book.

5 out of 5 stars An unforgettable perspective on the nightmare of the Holocaust.......2006-02-09

Penned by a pair of Israeli journalists, In Our Hearts We Were Giants is the never-before-told true story of the Ovitz family, seven of them dwarfs, who experienced the horrors of the Holocaust - yet in an odd twist of fate, their dwarfism actually helped them to survive. Serving as popular entertainers until the Nazis deported them to Auschwitz in May 1944, the Ovitz family - widely known as the Lilliput Troupe - were separated from other Jewish victims. The notorious Dr. Josef Mengele, his diabolic "research" on twins and other genetically unique individuals already underway, took a special interest in the Ovitzes. Even as he arranged for vile experiments to be performed upon the Ovitzes, he developed a bizarre fondness for them and their will to survive. Pieced together from interviews with the last surviving Ovitz sibling and her relatives, medical documentation, archival lists, and original Auschwitz records, In Our Hearts We Were Giants is an unforgettable perspective on the nightmare of the Holocaust.

4 out of 5 stars The Seven Dwarfs.......2004-09-23

The story of the Ovitz family's devotion to one other and to their religion is by turns heartwarming and heartbreaking. By now, many of us have read books, seen movies, and heard stories about extraordinary survival won through that extraordinary horror, the Holocaust. This book stands with the best of those stories because of its uniqueness -- seven of the 10 Ovitzes were dwarfs, and therefore the entire family became the special "pets" of the dreaded Dr. Mengele.

The writing is hardly slick or seamless, but it gets the job done in a more than satisfactory manner. The text seems to speak English with an accent, and while that can be a tad distracting at times, it confers that much more veracity upon the story of the Ovitzes.

The resourcefulness, dedication, and intelligence of the Ovitz dwarfs enables the reader to see them as much more than medical curiosities. Not only are they real people, they're very special people. Frankly, people of this caliber would be worth writing a book about even if they were of normal stature. Dwarfism aside, the story of the Ovitzes is that of a loving, close-knit, traditional family of a type that seems sadly alien to many of us today.

The family's Jewish faith remains strong even in the face of growing persecution. When it is decreed that Jewish performers may perform only for Jewish audiences, the Ovitzes skillfully contrive to obtain identification papers that do not identify them as Jews, yet they remain observant by conveniently falling ill on every sabbath, so they do not have to perform. Later, when they are held in the concentration camp, they manage to say prayers and fashion makeshift candles in secret observance of holidays.

The suffering the Ovitzes endured at the hands of Mengele is not related in excruciating detail, but what information we are given is excruciating enough. This book is generally more vague, more poetic about the concentration-camp atrocities than other books, but it is no less horrifying.

Horrifying, too, are some of the details of the Ovitzes' lives after the war. They remain devoted to one another, and continue to stick together, but now they are also bonded by what haunts them. Their nephew -- who was only a baby in the camp and learned to call Mengele "Daddy" so that he might be spared from torture -- recalls being awakened frequently by his aunts and uncles screaming in their sleep.

One of the most interesting aspects of this book are the conflicting accounts of the dwarfs' activities in the concentration camp. Several witnesses claim to have seen the Ovitzes performing in the camp, whereas the Ovitzes always firmly maintained that they did not perform -- and indeed, would not have done such a thing. Other witnesses claim to have seen several of the dwarves kowtowing to Mengele and to have heard them praising him to the other prisoners. The Ovitzes deny this as well.

The authors of the book do not attempt to clear up these discrepancies; they simply present both sides, and acknowledge that perhaps certain people's memories are clouded or inaccurate. I admired this tactic.

This remarkable family made their way in a world that gave them very little more than sharp minds, winning personalities, each other, and their strong faith. Though they did gain wealth and widespread renown before and after the war, during the very darkest years of their lives, the barest essentials -- wits and wit, family and faith -- turned out to be riches in themselves.

4 out of 5 stars A "big" book about "small"people.......2004-08-29

This is a most unusual book. Many books have been printed about the Holocaust, dissecting it from every conceivable aspect. Here we have a fascinating account of how a family of Jewish dwarfs from Marmorash (Transylvania) in Rumania survived the Holocaust. The infamous "doctor" Mengele was interested in studying genetics , more accurately he was interested in his own version of this science. The family of Jewish dwarfs and some extended family members offered him an unusual opportunity for this study and Mengele seized this and thus allowed the Jewish dwarfs to survive Auschwitz and remain alive while he and his staff preformed their so-called research on them.In fact many of these extended family members were not really related to the dwarf family , but created a fiction in an attempt at survival.
In fact this allowed these little Jews to survive and eventually move to Israel. Not only did they survive but Mengele and his cohorts treated them fairly well in comparison to the death camp conditions prevailing in Auschwitz.
Besides being a fascinating Holocaust story, it is also a moving human interest story dealing with Jewish life in Northern Rumania and the Jewish attitude towards the preforming arts in pre War Rumania and Hungary . Given that this family was Orthodox , their role in theatre and was especially difficult for them to navigate. The book also has some interesting information about "Badchanus" an art that is only now being revived in the Chasidic community in the US, Israel and Belgium.
Of course the book offers an account of life as a dwarf and , how these people live meaningful lives on both a day to day basis and in the long run in terms of livelyhood and marriage. The authors have presented a finely crafted book , that is both a dramatic account of one family's struggle to survive in the darkest of times and the same familys joy of life in dealing with a challenged reality.
