Flying for the Air Service provides a realistic picture of the typical flying experiences of the pilots who flew for the fledgling American Air Service during World War I. The narrative describes two brothers from Boston, George and Gerard Hughes, as they progress from apprentice pilots to flight instructors and combat pilots. After completing their pilot training program together,both were assigned as instructors. Then George was sent to France with the 12th Aero Squadron, where he flew two-place observation aircraft over the front lines. Gerard, meanwhile, remained in America, instructing students in Texas. Eventually Gerard joined his brother's squadron in France as the war ended. Through the detailed letters and narrative comments of these two pilots, we can see clearly the hazards and challenges that were faced by those who flew in the early years of American aviation.

This is nice book to have at home. It has good explanation about deseases and their cures with ayurvedic ways. It gives reciepes to make famous ayurvedic medicines also which are hard to find. Gives information ayurvedic wines also and how those can help in keeping good health.

~I have read dozens of books on Ayurveda published in English; this stands out as simply the best of what I have read.

It is sensitive, sympathetic to the conditions discussed, and lucid.

A great work. So many others have been based on (and written with) excellent information and the best of intentions, but somehow have ended up being more confusing than helpful... even in something as basic as classifying doshas, I never really grasped them clearly until I read this book, which is laid out~~ calmly, clearly, and with massive knowledge and experience underlying its clarity.

Again, an excellent book by someone who also seems to be a great human being-- it flows through all his words.~

Ayurvedic Healing is an excellent book whether you know anything about the Vedic medical science of Ayurveda, or not. The book deals with:
a) Finding out what body type you have, (vata-air, pitta-fire, kapha- earth/water) based on a questionnaire of health related questions
b) It helps you determine what kind of diet you can follow to balance your system.
c) It deals with common ailments as well as major diseases, covering everything from arthritis to AIDS
d) You can learn how to use chants, colors etc to relieve stress.

And that s just section I. In section II, it deals with the technical preparations with the use of various herbs, oils etc, which ayurvedic doctors use.

Thus this book is a comprehensive study of Ayurveda, which can be used to good effect by both the layman and the ayurvedic practitioner.

Excellent Bonsai book, I was amazed at the wealth of information in this book. It is better than many books 5x it's size and 10x it's weight. Very practical, it even comes with some species specific tips. Excellent illustrations. Not everything in Bonsai has to be expensive... this proves it! Highly recommended.

This is an excellent book, with step-by-step instructions and descriptive pictures. It covers many topics from bonsai history, to starting your own bonsai from scratch, to maintaining it.

TIP: If you buy this book, don't buy The Complete Book of Bonsai. I bought both, and was disappointed to see they are the same book, only this one is an abridged version of The Complete Book of Bonsai. They are published in the US by Abbeville Press and in London by DK.

It's a tip-book.......2006-12-18

This book provides most of the basic knowledge that you'll need to know. Sometimes you'll ask yourself a question that's a little more in-depth than this book spans, so just remember it's a tip-book and not a full fledged encyclopedia. For the price this is a very good book, the pictures are great and the tips are well thought out and span much of the bonsai hobby. Near the end of the book there are even suggested species for different types of bonsai styles. The tips are easy to remember and categorized well.

On the surface this book seems to have 600 photos of trees but it repeats toward the back many of the same trees over and over. Also I hope you can read what appears to be Dutch because the first 19 pages are in that language and then the rest of the book is English! Definately a book for the dilatante or coffee table casual reader.

This is a visually beautiful book that is even more valuable for its contents. A must have if you want to be inspired by beautifully photographed examples of classic trees, along with guidelines for how to begin to create trees in those style. You need to have this book if for no other reason than for the inspiration that it offers.

Not What I Was Looking For.......2006-06-13

This book had varied stories of several family's experiences with the school district, or not, and their adventures in homeschooling. It definitely strengthened my resolve to homeschool.
My complaint is that, from the title, I thought this would cover all parts of the spectrum more fully. Nine out of the eleven stories, if I counted right, were about children with Asperger's! These children usually did fairly well in the school district but better at home, which is not our situation. I was looking for more information on homeschooling children with autism, with more limited capabilites.

Excellent book.......2006-04-27

This is the best book I've found about homeschooling my special needs child. The best because we learn not only why but also how twelve different families homeschool their special needs child - twelve different children and twelve different approaches and ways of homeschooling. The book does indeed demonstrate that "paths are made by walking" and that everyone has their own path which they discover on their journey.

I would recommend this book to anyone with a child with autism or Asperger's syndrome who is experiencing difficulties in school, as well as to anyone who is already homeschooling to see how others are doing it.

Things can get very bad indeed.......2004-12-12

This book really brings home how bad things can be for ASD children at school. You will be amazed what some of them suffered before they were withdrawn and homeschooled. If you are thinking of homeschooling an ASD child then this is essential reading (along with Lise Pyles book). It gives a number of different summaries from different families.

I was very taken with the parent who said that she used to concentrate all her energy on getting what she was entitled to from the dept of education but once she got it she realised that it wasnt anything like enough and that homeschooling had much more to offer her child.

Inspiring reading and if your child is suffering at school there is no better place to start if considering homeschooling.

If you are interested in the 20th century history of Jews in Eastern Europe, then this is a must-read book. It is difficult to read as we are not familiar with the places, people, or events that Ansky spoke about. And these are not pleasant events to read about. But we need to know this things, if we are to understand what happened to our families during World War I, even before they were annihilated in World War II. I highly recommend this book to historians and genealogists alike.
