Kell was the driving force behind much of the success that raphael Semmes enjoyed with his raider Alabama. Delany fully depicts Kell's exciting life, giving thorough attention not only to the war years, but also the pre- and postwar years as well." This review from America's Civil War magazine (March 2003) pretty much describes the book. It is a good, concise read for anyone interested in the naval aspects of the American Civil War, especially the role of the Confederate commerce raider Alabama.

Helpful and Hopeful.......2003-01-30

Offering help to borderline personalities and their loved ones long before other popular self help writers, Dr. Heller's book suffers from miserable printing and formatting. It's a shame, because Life at the Border is jam packed with straightforward and valuable overview information. Family Physician and "positive thinker" Dr. Heller places an interesting, optimistic emphasis on the biological causes and cures of BPD (especially limbic brain disorders) (while not neglecting the full spectrum of causes and treatments, including supportive alternative treatments). He mentions in passing that he will be writing a book on coping with borderline personalities and for those who need to deal with the trauma of having lived with a borderline; his unique contribution in that area is long overdue. He writes in conclusion to the borderline personality: "Find a therapist and get the help you need. Then read as many positive, mentally healthy books as you can and as often as you can -- it will make a difference. Listen to motivational tapes every day, and retrain your brain with positive, healthy affirmations. Make peace with God and your spirituality. If possible, make peace with your loved ones. Most of all, make peace with the most important person in the world -- the one in the mirror. He/she needs and deserves to be forgiven." Dated and badly in need of a completely revised version, but still very valuable.

LELAND!!.. The ANTIDOTE for the Misunderstanding of BPD........2002-05-28

When I was first diagnosed with Dyslimbia, (the appropriate and correct term for BPD) I took on the perception that it meant I could never be treated effectively. I would never be emotionally well, and that my condition was one that no one looked forward to treating a patient for. Dr. Heller's book was quick to dispel that myth in my mind.

He dissected the condition and explained it piece by piece so that anyone in the world could understand it without the defeatist's attitude that often seems to be prevalent in the communtiy of psychiatry in general (where Dyslimbia is concerned). He explains what it is, the origins of it, the modus operandi, the symptoms, the effect of those symptoms upon our lives, the possibility of being cured, and tools with which to progress towards and reach the place of being cured.

I felt very relieved and excited to learn of someone who had actually been cured of this condition. He give's the readers (who suffer from Dyslimbia (BPD)) a sense of pride as he explains that people who suffer from Dyslimbia are not Dyslimbics or BPDers. They are people who suffer from a medical condition called Dyslimbia which menifests itself via emotional/ mental symptoms that negatively effect their lives.

His book shows us that we shouldn't see ourselves as a terrible ailment or condition. We are People With a medical condition. We don't refer to people with cancer by saying, "Hey there End Stage Carcinoma, how's it going?" Nor should we say, "Hi, my name is Indigo and I'm a BPDer. What's your name?.....My name is Polyp. Nice to meet you BPDer."

His contrast of the self and the condition, adds perspective to the task at hand, which is to maintain a positive outlook concerning recovery, to take responsibility for our recovery, to focus on and use the tools given to progress to recovery, and to have a clear understanding of the nature and occurrance of our own behavior as it relates to Dyslimbia.

I couldn't put this book down..........2001-12-02

As a sufferer of BPD, my attention span is not great. But
I literally couldn't put this book down...it just fed my
soul. Finally someone who "gets" it. Although medication
is outdated (newer drugs have less side effects and more
benefits), advice and support is up to date. It has given
me the knowledge that recovery is possible...something I
didn't believe before.

I liked this book, Dr. Heller seems to have a lot of experience in the treatment of BPD. The book is easy to read and follow, and I found it pretty interesting. HOWEVER, the book is really nt up-to-date with the recent medical and psychological research. It is claimed that the book has been updated in 1999. I dno't believe it. Nothing to say about DBT, newer SSRIs and atypical antipsychotics.

If you just want to understand the disorder, get this book. If you are looking for treatment, this book is way out of date,

I found this book informative and in-depth, and Dr. Heller certainly knows a lot about borderline personality disorder. I would recommend this book to anyone who has bpd or a person who knows someone with it. The only thing I didn't like about the book was that it included a section on the entire spectrum of personality disorders, which wasn't really necessary. I would have liked to see more information on HOW to deal with a person who has bpd. Btw, my book has bad binding. It fell apart the first day I read it!

This book is sort of all fluff; the pictures are pretty, but it's not really very informative. I'd skip it and buy a Michelin guide unless you want a picture book for your coffee table.

Burgundy & its Wines.......2007-01-30

The book has wonderful photography, with a nice history of the region. A few major vineyards are listed, but don't expect it to be a list of key Burgundian hot spots! More the asthetic and artistic history of the area and how wine got started and grew.

Great portrait of Bordeaux, it's wines and communes, written in a non-pretensious style. Since I haven't been lucky enough to travel to the Bordeaux, Robert Joseph descriptions has help me envision the region, even without the need of the photos (althoug they've also helped).

Excellently written .......2007-09-17

This is an excellently written guide to Jewish- American sports heroes. It is divided into chapters according to the sport: Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Boxing etc.
A similar book also of excellent quality was written many years ago by Harold Ribalow.

In the description of this book it was not mentioned that this is the 2004 edition. It does say so on the cover, if you enlarge the image of the cover.

The laws about Roth IRAs have changed since then. However, up to date info is available on the Fairmark website.

The most thorough and educational Roth book out there.......2006-09-09

I have read many books about IRAs as well as the pages of the IRS web page pertaining to Roth IRAs. This book is the best I have read for information on the Roth IRA. It offers the best explanation I have seen of why the Roth is worth more than the traditional IRA for many investors. Not only is it worth more than the traditional IRA but the Roth is also much more flexible than the Traditional IRA. You can use a Roth IRA to buy a house, pay for a child's education, buy a car, really anything you like as long as you withdraw only the contributions. This book will explain the options the Roth allows and you will be able to decide if the Roth is for you.

Good Read, Everything you ever wanted to know about Roth IRA's.......2005-10-07

After reading this book I felt like I had a very solid knowledge of Roth IRA's and how they work. Ive been a Roth IRA investor/contributor since they became law in 1998. However, one of the areas I struggled with was whether or not to
convert traditional IRA funds to my Roth account. This book
covered the greatest detail of this and even what the tax implications would be. ie...can the tax be payed with my
next years return or must it be payed now to avoid penalies. One thing I never considered was if I didn't
convert and my income went over the threshold allowed by law to convert, I would lose the opportunity to convert the money in the future.
The book covers investing too but is somewhat limited in that area as it mainly is a book of what the Roth is and what
the laws are regarding it. Basically, the investing part states Grandmas common sense of diversification. All in all a pleasant read on what can be a somewhat boring topic.

Risk Free????.......2006-04-27

I have not read this book, but I had to comment on its title: I would hate for a novice investor/trader to be taken in by the promise of "risk free" options trading. Synthetically, selling a covered call is identical to selling a naked put, with exactly the same risk/reward profile. The fact that lots of investors do it, and are allowed to do so by their brokers, has a lot more to do with the brokers' risk tolerance than its risk profile for the individual. Yes, you can increase your returns with this strategy, but please, learn how to do it from someone who will tell you the truth about the potential outcomes.

If it so good why would SOMEONE bother writing the same review over and over again. I have written many of covered calls and 25% is a bit lofty for a return. Look into more honestly reviewed/written books for details/strategies and see what you can do experientially. Start small and watch what happens to your returns on an annualized basis. Have an exit strategy before you start.

A Very Good Primer.......2003-06-11

I found this book to be very interesting and powerful in that it not only provides a simple covered call strategy but a stock selection method that complements the overall strategy. The book gives any one the basics to set up a conservative covered call portfolio that should provide a comfortable income. You can order a set of CD's that implements the book's basics and the CD's are very reasonable.
I have set up my IRA account to implement the covered call/ stock program set forth in this book.

Over the last five years, I've examined hundreds of schemes for making money in the stock market. Now, I don't want to say anything bad about all those schemes, but I will say this: The concepts in The Money Tree actually work as advertised! I am retired, and need to make my meager resources last out my lifetime. My lack of success in the market had me ready to put my money in a 2% savings account and hibernate. But then I read this book. It has literally changed my life.

confused? I am........2003-01-04

Friends,
I read "Evolution of a Symphony Musician" while I was up in the Davis Mountains for a few days. It is by Joseph Mourek who was a French horn player with the Chicago Symphony for 49 years or so.

I bought the book for [$$$} on [Amazon.com] as a way of getting a few bucks to Mr. Mourek and at the same time getting something interesting to read.

It is the worst book I have read in my adult life. I can't remember all the books I read before the age of 21 or I might list this book as the worst book I have EVER read.

It starts out with very disconnected reminisces of Mourek's years with the symphony and never changes. The paragraphs by themselves are fine and informative but there is no rhyme or reason. It reminds me of talking with my slightly drunk uncle Buster.

If ever a book needed a ghostwriter this is it. There is a book in Mr. Mourek, but someone needs to get all the information and organize it in some fashion. An Editor is needed! The book repeats itself almost word for word in some sections. I picked up the book on the second day an honestly thought I had lost my place because I had read all this before. I looked back and found the same paragraph earlier! On top of that no one appears to have read the book before it was published. They did run it through a spelling checker but that is about it. Took me awhile to figure out that "bake frame the was" should have been "back from the war".

Is it of interest to horn players... almost nothing in it is about horn players or playing. I think the author was there when Brain passed through Chicago in 1949 but not one word about that concert.

There are comments about the audition process, the conductors of the last 40 years, there are a few neat stories about various musicians but again, it is all just a big jumble.

I am sorry to write all this but I am trying to cleanse myself. I think I have had bad dreams for the last two nights about this book.

I wish someone would sit down with Mr. Mourek and get this book right.

A Masterpiece!.......1997-11-07

This fantastic book weaves a story about Jewish life in Czarist Russia that is endearing...and unfortunately, gone forever. This effort succeeds on many levels..as a historical footprint, family biography, and wonderful personality sketches. Best of all, it chronicles the many sucesses, and many tragedies of the Bercinsky family. To any that are interested in Jewish family life in the Czarist "Pale of Settlement"...this is a must read!
