How Wonderful it is to Remember..........2002-08-19

'Between the Lines-Reflections of War and Peacetime' ' invoked wonderful memories of war stories that I remember my dad sharing with me when I was a little girl. At the time I didn't understand why he was even sharing them with me. As an adult, I now undertstand that all he was doing was sharing a part of his life with me. Now when he shares war stories I will listen and hold on to every word.

The thought that L. William Cracken would take the time to write this book, open up his life to share his stories, and create this legacy for his children, grandchildren and the literary world in itself is Priceless.

I would be honored to meet L. William Cracken one day and have him autograph my copy of 'Between the Lines...'

Excellent and responsible introduction to chi gung........2002-02-24

I was introduced to the practice of chi gung through the writings of Daniel Reid--this book and another on traditional Chinese medicine.

The descriptions of the exercises are the best of any of the books I have read since (about 8), and the practice routine he includes is extremely well-structured and beneficial. I have been doing this routine daily for about 6 months, and have enjoyed numerous substantial benefits from it. No other author I have found has provided such a complete workout routine. I have continued to use it as a basis for additional material I have learned from other sources.

I am most grateful that Mr. Reid, among others, has been willing to make this information available to us in print.

Excellent book for beginners, very concise and explanatory........2002-02-12

For those of you starting to learn Chi Kung, this book will give you thorough information about the whole history, the different practices and forms, and the relation body to universal chi. It?ll also give you explanations about the benefits of practicing Chi Kung for yourself as preventive healthcare as well as how it is used to heal others. It covers the various ways of working with Chi, best locations, best time and environment, and a few sets of daily practices.
This book is excellent for beginners wanting to know what they are dealing with or for curious people to get a good knowledge of Chi Kung. Highly recommended.

Born-again chi-gung.......2001-10-25

I am about half way through this book and am straining not to put it down. It is full of rhetoric reminiscent of born-again literature, which makes me question some validity. Full of fantastical stories and not one reference as to where the information comes from. As far as his allopathic understanding of physiology/biology, it is hashed, at times incorrect and simply doesn't make sense. Another book just to turn a buck. Save yourself the time a read a better book!

Fascinated by the beauty of real flowers used in cake decorating, I decided to buy this book. And I'm glad I did! It is filled with a wealth of information of which flowers can be used for decorating and flavor as well as proper collection techniques and preparation methods. Recipes are also included. The color pictures are quite helpful and will give additional ideas to readers. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something exotic!

I am new to working with herbs and have been to a Tea Room several times where edible flowers are frequently used on the dishes. This book is very informative as to the various edible flowers you can plant in your garden and has some great recipes.

To Much History.......2006-08-10

This book was good and all but Mr. Webster put way to many animal stories and history than he does physic tests with your pets. There is like 15 pages of stories and 1 1/2 pages of pet physic tests. I wouldn't recommend This Book to someone who is serious about being a Pet Physic like I am.

This book connects you and your pet........2005-07-29

It was good to find this book. It seems kind of weird but when you look at it from a soul point of view, psychic communication is very real between living beings that have an affinity together, including humans and pets. Personally I think it is divinty that is in all creatures that provides the gateway to communication.
Anyway, I reccomend this book to truely "commune with nature".

They Laughed When I Said He'd Come Back, But When He Did..........2002-06-18

This book was highly entertaining to read. I must admit, I was *quite* skeptical of some of the suggestions in the book. However, my in-laws lost their dog about 2 weeks ago and I convinced them to try out Webster's tips for when your pet goes astray.

Sure enough, a few hours later, using his techniques, their dog came back. Now, I know that sounds crazy. Even they ribbed me about it saying it was a coincidence. Maybe so. But I am very glad to have read the book, regardless. I found it very helpful.

Hopeful for Better Understanding.......2007-02-11

Yes, Danika's book talks about meditation and communicating telepathically with your dog. But it's also about dog psychology and how your dog needs and wants you to be the "pack leader".

She weaves in lots of personal accounts about animals she's known or done work with as an animal communicator. I was fascinated by the stories of how she was able to find out that her female cat was being terrorized by the male cats in the household (brothers!) and how she was able to solve the problem. (Removing the cover from the litter box kept the boys from sneaking up on the poor girl).

There are stories about finding out that a dog was in the early stages of cancer before any exterior symptoms were being shown and another of finding out that a dog was really tired of being sick and tired and was ready to "go". She also weaves in recommendations for other books and websites such as the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen.

Essentially, this book is about strengthening your bond with your pet and who doesn't want that?

Pet Telepathy, Give Me A Break!.......2007-01-16

I'm the proud owner of 2 Bichons. I thought this book would help me understand how the dogs think and provide tips for better communication with my pets. I only read the first few chapters. I was instructed to meditate and take on an animal spiritual guide. It informed me that I could pass messages to my dogs just by thinking. I know dogs pick up on our emotions, energy levels, and body language. I also realize that spoken word in any language is not the dog's natural form of communication, but this book was talking about speaking a language that neither my dogs nor I could understand! Unless you are one with nature, stay away from this book!

This is great!.......2002-11-16

I am a social worker who serves child victims of sexual abuse and their non-offending caregivers. Most of the victims I see are or have been in counseling. Many still need help in working through the trauma of abuse. I have given many copies of "Shining Through" to these young ladies or their mothers. I have many books on recovering from sexual abuse but this one is the best book I've found for speaking to these young victims at their level of feeling and understanding. It is appropriate for the teen who tunes out authorities and for the girl who needs a tool for working through issues with her caregiver. I heartily recommend it.

This book is a kiddy book ,but I like it. This story is about a girl named Moshi and her friend Jessica. Jessica has a pet dog named Tippy. Tippy can do tricks and impressed Moshi with them. So Moshi asks her father if she could have a puppy from one of the sled dogs that is pregnant. Her father says no. So Moshi and Jessica went out to play,but then it started snowing and they couldn't see anything. Then they saw Moshi's father's dog. They followed her and she led them into the place she stayed. Then the dog layed down and they saw her puppies. Moshi really wanted a dog to play with like Tippy. Then it got late and the two girls were cold. Jessica started crying.Then Moshi's father found them and he said that Moshi could have one of the puppies as long as she took care of it.

This is a story of the Warsaw Ghetto told through the eyes of Froim Baum, who was born in Warsaw on April 15, 1926. After his father died, he was placed in Janusz Korczak's orphanage, where he spent some of the happiest years of his childhood. When Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, Froim and other Jews were forced by Nazi soldiers to live in a walled-off part of the city. Froim sneaked outside the walls to the market, where he bought food and smuggled it in to his family and friends. A few years later, he was sent to the death camps. He managed to survive until he was liberated at dachau by American soldiers at the end of the war. Mr. Adler hopes that by reading Froim's story, people will be reminded of those millions who perished.

A Powerful Introduction to the Holocaust for Middle Grades.......2001-05-04

In my opinion, all upper elementary students should be made aware of the Holocaust. It's not easy--in a single library session--to try to discuss the Holocaust and promote some of the titles we have in our school library. "Child of the Warsaw Ghetto" is probably the best, single title I can read in one sitting that covers so much territory.

The picture book format is a bit deceiving, since I would not opt to read this solemn story to primary grades. The muted gray colored pencil drawings fit the grim topic of this biographical account of a poor Jewish boy in Warsaw, Poland, during the time of the Nazi occupation.

In rapid succession we learn about the Depression, the rise of Hitler and anti-Jewish sentiment, desperate poverty, a home for orphans, Germany's invasion of Poland, fighting, forced labor, German theft of furniture and valuables, removal of Jews, the ordered wearing of the blue Star of David, the moving of 400,000 Jews into a walled ghetto, the stark living conditions, the closure of the ghetto, the order for "All Jews out!" and few who were able to escape, the brief--but bold--Jewish resistance, the burning of the ghetto, and the "resettlement" either to death camps or concentration camps. All this is seen through the eyes of Froim Baum, starting when he is still a youngster.

The author's note at the end of the book spells out the additional cruelty of the Nazis to initiate many of their actions on Jewish holidays. He also tells what became of Froim Baum after the war.

When I've finished reading this sobering account to older elementary students, I encourage them to read additional titles, such as: "Diary of a Young Girl," by Anne Frank; "Number the Stars," "The Devil's Arithmetic," "Alicia: My Story," "The Endless Steppe," "The Borrowed House," "The Hiding Place," and "Daniel's Story" (to name a few).

This is a topic we should never forget. And since the period of history is not really covered in our curriculum, it needs to be introduced to students through well-written books on the subject, whether fiction or non-fiction. "Child of the Warsaw Ghetto" is a good place to start.
