With the WW11 memorial just dedicated in Washington, Finding Billy is a must read! This memoir takes us back, gives us an intimate peek at history and the lives of brave young men involved in that conflict. We feel the love and loss of friends and family through the pages of Diana Dale's book. We particularly feel the determination of the author and the people she met through the internet to solve the mustery of her Uncle, Billy Wisner's disappearance over the Italian Alps in l944 while flying his P-38. You fall in love with handsome Billy through his endearing letters to his family and friends. Don't miss this glimpse into life during WW11.

An engrossing and poignant search.......2004-06-30

Finding Billy chronicles the author's search to find out about the circumstances of her uncle's death. Billy Wisner was a World War II pilot who wemt "missing in action" over Italy in October, 1944. That was all the information his family had for over 50 years, though his mother never gave up hope that she would see him again. Diana Dale's simple question on an internet veterans' message board (Does anyone remember my uncle?) led to the resolution of this family's story. Along the way, Dale's internet acquaintances become real friends, and Dale completes the puzzle in the way the US Army could not.

Dale uses family letters to paint a picture of Billy's life, and her emails trace the progression of the investigation. Her personality shines through the prose, as do those of the many people she meets, first online and then in person.

Not just for WWII aviation buffs, Finding Billy will appeal to anyone who likes the satifaction of a mystery solved, or who is haunted by the loss of a loved one. Highly recommended.

Book Description

This book, Dr. Robinson's autobiography, offers his unique personal experience of the 20th century, a century of fantastic technological progress, four major wars; and the prolonged life and death ideological struggle between democracy and totalitarianism in which democracy finally emerges victorious.

It describes his pioneering participation in the post-World War II intellectual revolution which led to the computer revolution which is now becoming the world shaking "automation" revolution which has brought us to the brink of enormous increases in productivity through computerized automation of all branches of human endeavor. And he concludes by projecting the future course of this Revolution and its economic and social consequences.

It describes the two World Wars, his important personal World War II experience in Mr. Churchill's private office, especially in the crucial days when, after the collapse of France, Britain faced the threat of German invasion alone. It also describes the origins and problems of the Korean War and the Vietnam War in the context of the relentless communist struggle to rule the world which dominated world history from 1918 to 1990.

Every young American should read this book to gain an insight into the nature of these salient features of the 20th century, the lessons they have taught, and the legacy it is bequeathing - the Automation Revolution - that will transform our lives the world over in the 21st century.

Pretty Good.......2007-04-15

I've been reading a lot of "natural remedy" or "folk remedy" books lately. I checked this one out from my library.

Many of the books I've been reading, this book included, have the same format. It begins by describing some common types of natural medicine (16 in this book). Then it lists common health problems (160 in this book) and the remedies from selected types of natural medicine.

Some of the remedies in this book were unique. So, I may buy it or check it out again if I need to refer to it later.

Good because of the wide assortment of material it includes.......2006-07-25

New Choices in Natural Healing takes several areas of natural health care and incorporates it by condition. As an example, if you were to turn - alphabetically, of course - to Arthritis, you'd read a short paragraph describing the ailemtn, then a paragraph or two under Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Flower Remedy, Food Therapy, Homeopathy, Hydrotherapy, Imagery, Juice Therapy, Massage, Reflexology, Relaxation and Meditation, Vitamin and Mineral Therapy, and -finally- yoga.

If you know much on herbs, you'd get frustrated seeing the cautious and very generic recommendations, and the same goes for some other areas. However, to have this much information on such a wide variety in one book is invaluable, an excellent idea and, even if not done completely up to par, worth owning. The authors act more as journalists in a way, objectively describing what the experts in each field would recommend for each condition, not taking an active stance much. The objective authors of course follow it up with ask your doctor and generic advice, but the book they've put together has served its use well enough.

The end section is great, as it's filled with illustrations on acupressure points, massages, reflexology jargon and charts, a few relaxation stretches, yoga illustrations (good amount of these). This section alone brought the book up another star - I'm a visual learner, and the diagrams can assist many people. Great segment!

The beginning is well-done, also, telling about each area of natural healing with background details and such. Having a book at your fingertips that will point you in the right direction for a variety of natural techniques is priceless. In order to learn this much about each would involve buying multiple books about seperate healing techniques - a book such as this saves mucho on the wallet, makes general browsing a breeze, and cuts your time in half. Not perfect in some areas, but certainly worth picking up!

I founded the book to be all that I expected and somewhat more. The medical information were easy to find. And the price was somewhat unbelievable at 1 cent. I keep the book handy for quick advice.

Heal the natural way..........2005-01-27

This book has natural remedies for minor ailments (it specifically mentions that if symptoms are severe or persist over an extended period of time you should see a doctor). I have found it very helpful (I figured in the least it can't hurt me). This book is split into 3 parts.

Part I: This part contains an overview of what natural healing is and then gives descriptions of various methods used in natural healing (ex. acupressure, aromatherapy, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, yoga).

Part II: This book lists many ailments in alphabetical order. It is easy to look them up because they are written as an encyclopedia style reference. Some problems included are: acre, bad breath, colds, heartburn, jet lag, rashes, and warts. This part also includes illustrations of things such as massage and acupressure so that it is easy to lacate the areas yourself.

Part III: This part lists various resources in case the reader is interested in looking up more information or some organizations that deal with natural healing.

I would recomend this book for anyone who doesn't know much about natural healing but likes to try and heal themselves before seeing a medical doctor.

This is the best of the best. It tells you when to see an orthodox doctor, and gives you MANY choices in therapy options for all medical concerns. It's an all-inclusive guide to ALL alternative health methods, from Acupressure and Ayurveda to Sound Therapy and Yoga. I refer to it daily, and learn something new each time.

Lacking Creativity.......2007-04-14

I bought a little booklet, years ago, probably had as many or probably more recipes for oatmeal as this one does. I think I got that little book from a special offer off of the Quaker Oatmeal Box. In comparison this little book is disappointing. Recipes which have mixins for a bowl of hot cereal is not what I am exactly after. I think most of us can figure that out so needless to say, I was not impressed with the breakfast section of this book. Some of the cookie and muffin recipes sound good. I did not like the fact that there did'nt seem to be any recipes using ground oats or oat flour. I think oat flour should have been vital in a book devoted to oatmeal. Oatmeal is pretty healthy and I feel there could of been a lot more creative ways to use it in this book.

Slightly disappointed.......2007-07-07

I loved the drawings but the book has only 4 or 5 different flowers that were repeated with different number of flowers on the page. Instead of putting more varity of flowers or the same flowers even but in different scenery, they just kept using the same few flowers and increased the number of flowers on the pages throughout the book. One flower on one page, the same flower duplicated on another, then quadrupled on another etc. throughout the book for the IDENTICAL 4 or 5 flowers which seems to be a little lazy.

This is a great, easy to read guide for new parents. It gives great suggestions and information on building a close relationship with a newborn. The book includes information and activities appropriate for each week of a baby's life, up to age 24 weeks. It also has great bold illustrations for each week that are fascinating to babies - very handy for baby's visual stimulation. The book is very pro-baby, pro-hands on bonding, pro-parent/baby interaction. Thank you Ms. Stelfox for creating this book! I hung "Baby Be Loved" next to the changing table when my baby girl was just a week or two old. When she was fussy she'd look up at it and she would quiet right down, it was amazing! She was fascinated with the black and white (and later color) illustrations that really drew her attention. I take "Baby Be Loved" along on car trips too. I never leave home without it! I would strongly recommend this book to all new parents. It makes a terrific shower gift too. What a wonderful way to share in your child's early development!
