This book advocates a diet primarily of "fresh, organic, uncooked, unrefined foods that provide the body with everything it needs to stay strong, healthy, and vigorous." Great Overall Book.......2007-02-04

If you're new to the tenants of a healthy lifestyle, and if you're interested in living vegetarianism, this is a great start book. Why? The approach of this book is global, permitting the novice to acquire an overview without becoming lost in complicated ingredients, metaphysical considerations or intricate procedures. It is small enough to be snuggled into your bag and read bit-by-bit in stolen moments of a busy day. The writing style is clear, concise and explanatory. There are plenty of leads to be pursued at a further date, after you have been able to apply the knowledge contained here. If you're already a confirmed addict of rawvioli (c'mon, out of the closet), you'll mainly appreciate a few recipes (not all from Wigmore's books,less fat based than Cousens, although most can be found online) though they definitely aren't aimed at those who follow a mono diet. This is a great book to recommend to the curious who ask you questions about your lifestyle, sprouting techniques, and/or recipes. Good book, easy read.

This was the first book I ever read on raw food diet and it changed my life. Within one week of switching to a living foods diet I went from being sick, depressed and suffering from horrible allergies, to happy, energetic and allergy-free. This book is extremly informative and, if you follow its instructions, can bring you to a state of health and well-being greater than you ever imagined.

This book is good for theme parties -- there are some really great recipes included, particularly the endive benedictine. However, there aren't enough recipes for each theme to give you the opportunity to pick and choose. I found that there were too many photos of the women compared to the food, and I also found that their concept of a "cooking club" to be more akin to a potluck dinner. If you are thinking of starting a cooking club, definitely cook together -- it is oh-so-much more fun!

I submit that it could not. This is yet another winning cookbook from these foxy big city gals. For me, this cookbook (like their breakthrough debut) sits atop my microwave (the highest honor I can bestow upon a cookbook).

Now, don't get me wrong, I didn't rush out and form a cooking club myself- that sort of thing is typically frowned upon among guys. Nevertheless, I do find myself upgrading my "Chex Mix"-themed parties to the more festive suggestions given in this essential kitchen companion.

I was worried I might not understand some of their chic New York City-type references, but fortunately that was not the case. Even a country mouse like myself laughed aloud at some of the witty prose in this "cookbook with personality".

This book will hit you like a meteorite (not a Mars rock) with its humorous stories and photos of foxy gals and tasty party food. I recommend it as much as its predecessor, "The Cooking Club Cookbook : Six Friends Show You How to Bake, Broil, and Bond".

This is the best quilt book in my collection. I seldom am tempted to make a quilt exactly as shown in the pattern, but I could happily make my way through this book - one quilt at a time!

Christopherson's color and fabric choices are inspiring and are an excellent exercise in going beyond basic fabric selection. Her techniques and designs give you the maximum visual impact for minimum effort - heirloom looks that can be achieved in weeks rather than months.

Personally, I enjoy the process of making a quilt almost more than the quilt itself. In my quilt book purchases, I look for motivation, information, and inspiration. Christopherson has it all. Her quilts are a tremendous amount of fun to make and yield beautiful results. My family will get great Christmas presents this year, if I can bear to part with any of these quilts!

Teri Christopherson owns up to very eclectic tastes that "change with my mood," and this book reflects that variety. What unifies it is a very definite bent toward traditional quilt designs and a love of rich, warm color combinations. The thirty patterns presented in this book are selected from the designs of the Black Mountain Quilts pattern company, and range from the whimsical to the very elegant and subtle. Although traditional, these quilts display lots of new twists, such as the "Watermelon Picnic" quilt, which uses log cabin blocks to depict watermelon slices. The photography is superb, the instructions meticulous, and patterns include table runners, pillows, and tree decorations as well as quilts. Both appliqué and pieced techniques are featured.

Wonderful updated traditional designs.......2002-11-14

Beautiful choices of fabric and innovations on traditional patterns make this book of piecing and applique such a delight. Includes an elegant flag quilt, watermelon log cabin, and lots of flowers.

This isn't a rah-rah, feel good book about giving to charity. It deals strictly with the guidelines for different types of giving. If you have money to bestow, you want to know how to do it properly.
From this book, you'll learn about tax deductible and non-tax deductible donations, charitable gift annuities, deferred or planned gifts, etc. It also covers the advantages and disadvantages of each type of gift.
There are ways to give that I'd never thought of, so it's wise to consult this before making a major gift of money or possessions.

Necessary reading at tax time.......2002-11-02

An infinite help for individual contributors to charities. In a completely up-to-date (includes information on September 11 charities) and easy to understand format, the book teaches the reader how to be socially responsible in their donations and also to save tax money during a trying economy. The charts, examples, and lists of deductible and non-deductible items were the most useful.

Great book for Fidelity Select investors.......1998-11-28

Very detailed information on risk level, returns, and how to invest in fidelity select mutual funds.

Finally, something I can use!.......1998-11-26

I have been looking for someway to track the different Fidelity investments and trade on my own. This book and computer program is finally the anwser. I have been using the computer program for 6 months and have finally made money on my own. When the Dow came down so severly in late summer and fall, this system told me what to invest in and not lose like the dow. I am looking forward to trading with this system in the future.

Over-Hyped.......1998-11-12

Despite the advertising, I would say that this book is of little or no use to all but the beginning investor who wants a very easy to manage entry/exit system. I could replicate the "extensive historical research" that these "prominent authors" have performed for their systems in less than a few days and I'm no expert.

There are more pages of text devoted to the history of Fidelity and to an overview and explanation of the Select Funds (the only useful chapter in the book for me) than to the 3 "powerful mutual fund models". The "computer programs" included on disk are nothing more than incredibly simple spreadsheet templates.

I'm not sure if the authors are bull-market opportunists or just naive, but their book was/is a great disappointment to me.

It was for school and now it's for me.......2007-03-09

I had only bought this book for a course in university but we only had to do the first five chapters. I had to go on with it though. The cases are all extremely well written and did an amazing job of showing me how insane the corporate world can be. It's a great book if you're looking for something to change your perspectives on the ethics of todays business society and the major differences between "white collar" and traditional crimes.

A heartwrenching story of courage and survival.......1999-05-09

This is one of the most moving and sensitive books I've ever read. I couldn't put it down. I shed many tears as I read of the hardships and tragedies Rose, Alex and their families endured. I rejoiced when things went well. The descriptions and the illustrations gave me an insight as to how life was in Szatmar and in Budapest. "Ruchele" is a wonderful tribute to a family and I shall never forget it. I have recommended it to all my friends. I think it is important for students of all ages to read it. This time in history should never be forgotten.

Ruchele was the youngest daughter in an Orthodox Jewish family of ten children in Szatmar, Romania. Like may of her contemporaries, she saw her childhood cut short by the outbreak of WWII and the Holocaust. In this memoir Ruchele, now named Rose, recounts her difficult girlhood in pre-war Romania and nazi-occupied Hungary. She tells how she survived under a Gentile identity in Budapest, and tells in plain words the price that she and other survivors among her family and friends had to pay. I have read the book and found it fascinating and especially enjoyed the details and touching anecdotes about neighbors and family members which bring to life the lost world of orthodox Judaism in Eastern Europe. As an added feature, her book is wonderfully illustrated by "Ruchele's" husband, Alex. The drawings give us the feel of the old country where we grew up.

They came from the same small town of Szatmar, Romania. But throughout their childhood and throughout the dark days of World War II, Rozsi Katz and Sanyi Farkas never laid eye on one another. Sanyi spent much of the war in a forced labor camp; Rozsi led a precarious life in Budapest, posing as a Christian. They did not meet until 1945, when both were back in Szatmar, waiting for family members who would never arrive.

Married and living in the United States, Rozsi and Sanyi, who have become Rose and Alex, prefer to focus on the positive. Since their arrival from Communist Romania in 1965, they have parlayed hard work and quick wits into a comfortable living.

Given their special closeness, it's not surprising that Rose's recently-published memoir is actually a family affair. The book is called "Ruchele: Sixty Years from Szatmar to Los Angeles" (Fithian Press) after Rose's childhood nickname, and it traces her personal history from the crowded apartment in Szatmar to the spacious home in Bel Air with its million dollar view. Rose recounts her harrowing experiences in wartime Budapest (at one point she sought shelter within the Hungarian Nazi Party) and depicts the grim days of Romanian Communism in full detail.

Proceeds from the sale of "Ruchele" will go to Sinai Temple, and they hoe to supply copies to school libraries so that all children can learn from it.
